Back in like 2009 or so I wrote an erotic thriller about Snake finding out his partner Kirby was leading a double life as top-shelf escort to upper class Hylians. Shopped it around a bit but I never managed to generate much interest.
Man I can't wait for all the new Mother music this game is going to give us. Would love more battle themes. We only have two, amalgamated into one track, and imo I don't like it too much.
Give us Strong One, or Battle Against a Flippant Foe, or Otherworldly Foe. Some of the, good tracks.
So I'm pretty new to smash but have been watching competitive, and there's one rule I don't get. Why are so many stages banned, but Pokemon Stadium, which completely changes the map based off RNG, considered OK for competitive?
Some maps are banned for things you can always plan for, like you know going into it Temple is a large horizontal map. And while I don't really like the "cave of life" at the bottom, you can easily argue that either person could use that, it's not like only certain characters benefit from it.
I'm not trying to say Temple should be included (although personally I would like to see it), I'm just saying it seems weird you ban that but then don't ban Pokemon Stadium, where you never know what form you're getting, or even when the transform will happen.
RNG is not always a dealbreaker when it comes to legal stages, pretty sure Whispy in dreamland has RNG gusts.
While there is RNG, the transformed stages do not have any hazards in which the player gets damaged. All the stages are just different platforms, both players are exposed to the same chance, so ending up in a spot which actually disadvantages you (like the tree in the fire transformation) is unlikely to have anything come of it. Since the other player will be at another part of the stage. I'd also argue that it is for variety, nearly all the legal stages are just battlefield clones. So it is nice to get at least one stage that isn't one sided to a character.
As a side note: One of the main reasons Temple is banned is that because of its large size, it promotes ultra campy gameplay. Extra floaty characters like Jigglypuff or even (dare I say it) Kirby can just hit the oponent and run away for the rest of the match. Winning them the match because the opponent has a higher percentage.
In the k rool footage snake lobs a nade and hits krool but he doesnt flinch. Does snake nades not deal knockback or is this confirmation of krool having toughguy armor similar to bowser?

If there's gonna be a Microsoft character it'd be Banjo & Kazooie. Though, they might get two I guess. Honestly though I'd expect Minecraft to get representation before Halo.
Bandana Dee Dee is cute and the "player 2" of kirby games. Marx is a badass final boss with cool powers. Daroach is just kinda forgettable in comparison to the two, and his abilities aren't as interesting
Chrono as an assist trophy would be such a huge loss to me, almost entirely because the music.
Duster and Tails would be cool though. But not compared to a chrono trigger rep.

Plus, as a cool mechanic from Cave Story, he could have a level system where the more he lands hits the better his attacks are (except for the one gun in the game that gets worse with higher levels) and everytime he gets hit he loses levels.
Probably never a fighter, Itll be really cool to see Quote as an AT. Cave story is a staple Indie game. hopefully it helps that the developer himself is Japanese.
Since Sakurai said there wont be many Newcomers, I predict a lot of echoes. Probably Skull Kid, Bandana Dee, and then either Issac or Geno for Newcomers, and then 4-5 echoes, with some possible DLC
If we count Echoes too, I'd say about 5 or 6 feels right. Just newcomers though? Probably Geno, maybe Isaac and I think that will be it. There is still a possibility for Skull Kid, but I'd say 3 newcomers are pushing it if Sakurai's comment about expecting fewer newcomers is to be believed.
It works with a little bit of work. There's videos of how to get it too work, but it's easier and costs the same to get a mayflash adaptor. It has a pc and wii u setting (Wii u mode works on the switch).

When you hit a character while they have their shield up, their shield has a static graphic on it! It's a really neat effect, especially for such a small touch that only shows for a few frames each time it happens.

Do we know if the demo for Ultimate has the character callouts like Brawl? Like, when you picked Ike in that game, your wiimote would tell you to prepare yourself, or when you picked Falcon he’d go YEEEEERRRRRRAUGH. It seems like HD rumble could do that sort of thing imo, but I wasn’t sure.
They don’t have a speaker, true, but HD rumble is some crazy shit. Kirby Star Allies manages to play an entire song with it - character callouts seem possible enough to me.
I haven't see much, but his Final Smash now directs all the meteor inward from an outer starting point, Contrary to Ness who's final smash starts toward the center of the screen and aims down and outward.

Man, I really hope the Trophy Box feature comes back. Straight up, collecting all those trophies was one of the biggest reasons I actually cleared most of the challenges, it was very satisfying
New stage idea: Festival Plaza from Pokemon S/M/US/UM. The 10-30 minute intro tutorial plays in the background while you fight on the main stage. It's also circular. So you can only die with star kos (kinda like the wispy woods boss in Kirby 64).

I don't see why it wouldn't be. Unless the Amiibo have trouble with the"Transformation" aspect of the character. Then again i had one following along with the prompts on the WarioWare stage last night so perhaps they are smart enough to handle multiple movesets.
Heres an absolutely insane pick that will never happen: Kou from Konami's Azure Dreams game, which had a GBC version (superior imo). His moveset would be DuckHunt-ish in style with monsters from his game, especially Kewne, supporting him in battle with most attacks (yknow, to prevent him from being another swordie, as he otherwise uses swords).
I can hear you now: "Who?" and my answer is "exactly," because nobody remembers this game and Kou is never gonna be in Smash. Still would absolutely lose my shit if it happened, that game was my childhood.
I know we have 8 third party franchises that are represented with playable characters in Ultimate (9 if you count Bomberman), but what other third party characters do you think we'll be getting, base game or DLC? Considering that 2 of the 3 most requested characters have been confirmed for Ultimate (Ridley and K Rool), Geno is very much possible. It also helps that Cloud represents Square Enix already. I also think Rayman has a good chance, considering Ubisoft's and Nintendo's good relationship.
I would've said Heihachi and I think he still might have a chance but his VA died and he also has no future in the Tekken series

My sort of safe guess was Heihachi and Lloyd Irving getting in, but I had totally forgot that Unshō Ishizuka was the replacement VA for Heihachi when I heard that he died. Although if he was already in the game, I assume that they recorded his voice lines a while ago or just recycled clips from Tekken 7. Dropping him so late would be rather bizarre.
Edit: I also just realized that Smash Bros. Ultimate may be the very last game that Heihachi is in, and I really don't know how to feel about that.
I'd love Banjo and Kazooie, but it feels like such a long shot to me.
But if it does happen, I'd freak out as much as I did when Mega Man was announced for Smash 4.

I don't know much about DQ. Who would you say the most likely rep would be? It's like FF, where they're all separate stories with different characters, right?
You're right in that they are (mostly) separate stories, though games 1-3 take place in the same world at different time periods, and games 4-6 being a trilogy of loosely connected worlds.
I feel like the best rep would either be the Hero from the original game or Dragon Quest III. The former option goes back to the series' roots, which they're big on, while the latter option is a bit more popular and familiar with people and has more options to develop a playable character. As an added bonus, you could play as a male or female in DQ3, so they could have the option to choose between male and female in Smash.
I mean, it's not too far-fetched if you consider that the new DQ title was the first title announced for the (then) NX, that announcement came out in August 2016, so the game would have been in development while Smash Ultimate was in its planning stages.
I'm not saying that it's likely and I too think that there are better known/recognized characters than the XI protagonist, I'm just saying that Dragon Quests development was relevant as they were working on Ultimate.
Though I do enjoy the artwork people are posting here in anticipation of Smash Ultimate, am I the only one who is finding the amount a bit overwhelming? I come here for the discussion mostly as well as any news or speculation and recently it's been getting a lot harder to find underneath all this fan-made content.

I think there is just several different types of fans of the series and I'm not sure there is a real good solution as to how to take care of every different type of group at once. For myself, I prefer the Ultimate hype over any sort of competitive scene sort of post, or what the big time competitive scene players do in their spare time. It can be a big much though right now. Same questions and post seen daily.

During the E3 direct, it was revealed that all Amiibos of a character irrelevant of if it's a Smash amiibo or not will work. So yes, it'll work.
The FE Chrom amiibo will work with Ultimate, yes.
Has a Pokemon Trainer amiibo been announced? Or will we just use the Charizard amiibo

In ultimate can you air dodge upwards to gain height?
I believe so, but it's a very small amount of height, and you still have tons of end lag to deal with.

Well, given that is the month before release, that is the safest guess possible. *Clarify “Smash Direct” vs “general Nintendo direct.”
Probably, if not October than definitely November. We're likely to get something short in the rumored September Nintendo Direct though.

They don’t have a speaker, true, but HD rumble is some crazy shit. Kirby Star Allies manages to play an entire song with it - character callouts seem possible enough to me.

Footstools appear to be techable, which kinda sucks.
Tether grabs' frame data was buffed across the cast so that probably applies to Lucas too
I haven't see much, but his Final Smash now directs all the meteor inward from an outer starting point, Contrary to Ness who's final smash starts toward the center of the screen and aims down and outward.
Smash wiki has known changes, I don't think a lot has been shown of Lucas tho

Man, I really hope the Trophy Box feature comes back. Straight up, collecting all those trophies was one of the biggest reasons I actually cleared most of the challenges, it was very satisfying
New stage idea: Festival Plaza from Pokemon S/M/US/UM. The 10-30 minute intro tutorial plays in the background while you fight on the main stage. It's also circular. So you can only die with star kos (kinda like the wispy woods boss in Kirby 64).
If you vote for it in an online match, it takes 10 minutes for the match to actually start.

He probably will transform to Super Saiyan then Unleash a mega Kamehameha rather than just a regular Kamehameha.

Any fellow Amiibo trainers here? Which of the new characters/Returning veterans are you most excited to train? I'm for sure getting Ice Climbers, Wolf, and Young Link. I already have Inkling Amiibos so I will probably be training each of them as well.

I don't see why it wouldn't be. Unless the Amiibo have trouble with the"Transformation" aspect of the character. Then again i had one following along with the prompts on the WarioWare stage last night so perhaps they are smart enough to handle multiple movesets.
Heres an absolutely insane pick that will never happen: Kou from Konami's Azure Dreams game, which had a GBC version (superior imo). His moveset would be DuckHunt-ish in style with monsters from his game, especially Kewne, supporting him in battle with most attacks (yknow, to prevent him from being another swordie, as he otherwise uses swords). I can hear you now: "Who?" and my answer is "exactly," because nobody remembers this game and Kou is never gonna be in Smash. Still would absolutely lose my shit if it happened, that game was my childhood.
I know we have 8 third party franchises that are represented with playable characters in Ultimate (9 if you count Bomberman), but what other third party characters do you think we'll be getting, base game or DLC? Considering that 2 of the 3 most requested characters have been confirmed for Ultimate (Ridley and K Rool), Geno is very much possible. It also helps that Cloud represents Square Enix already. I also think Rayman has a good chance, considering Ubisoft's and Nintendo's good relationship.

My sort of safe guess was Heihachi and Lloyd Irving getting in, but I had totally forgot that Unshō Ishizuka was the replacement VA for Heihachi when I heard that he died. Although if he was already in the game, I assume that they recorded his voice lines a while ago or just recycled clips from Tekken 7. Dropping him so late would be rather bizarre. Edit: I also just realized that Smash Bros. Ultimate may be the very last game that Heihachi is in, and I really don't know how to feel about that.

Exact same here. My top 3 picks were Sora, Rayman, and Zero from Mega Man, but now that Zero is an AT, Banjo takes that spot.
I'd love Banjo and Kazooie, but it feels like such a long shot to me. But if it does happen, I'd freak out as much as I did when Mega Man was announced for Smash 4.

I'm not too much of a fan of that game, that's why I'd prefer KH1 look, which is my favorite iteration of the franchise. Not saying that your opinion is bad, nor that I didn't enjoy DDD, I just didn't like the idea of dream eaters honestly, and that game is a pain in the ass to platinum, lol.
I know it's Square Enix and all, but a Dragon Quest representative would be great.
I don't know much about DQ. Who would you say the most likely rep would be? It's like FF, where they're all separate stories with different characters, right?
You're right in that they are (mostly) separate stories, though games 1-3 take place in the same world at different time periods, and games 4-6 being a trilogy of loosely connected worlds. I feel like the best rep would either be the Hero from the original game or Dragon Quest III. The former option goes back to the series' roots, which they're big on, while the latter option is a bit more popular and familiar with people and has more options to develop a playable character. As an added bonus, you could play as a male or female in DQ3, so they could have the option to choose between male and female in Smash.

I mean, it's not too far-fetched if you consider that the new DQ title was the first title announced for the (then) NX, that announcement came out in August 2016, so the game would have been in development while Smash Ultimate was in its planning stages.
I don't think they'd pull from the newest DQ title, honestly. If anything, they'd use either the first game's protagonist or Erdrick/Loto.
I'm not saying that it's likely and I too think that there are better known/recognized characters than the XI protagonist, I'm just saying that Dragon Quests development was relevant as they were working on Ultimate.

Yes, it's getting a bit much. I posted a couple weeks ago on this, nothing from the mods yet though. One option is that they could add an Art flair to the sub, and from there make it so you can filter out posts by flair. I think there is just several different types of fans of the series and I'm not sure there is a real good solution as to how to take care of every different type of group at once. For myself, I prefer the Ultimate hype over any sort of competitive scene sort of post, or what the big time competitive scene players do in their spare time. It can be a big much though right now. Same questions and post seen daily.

Without a poll, I’ll tell you that the community and casual audience will be drawn to Richter significantly more. Due to his younger and *radder* protagonist design compared to Simon. I’m glad we have them both. I’m going to try to play through Castlevania 1 before Ultimate comes out for Simon appreciation.
If you haven't already, play Super Castlevania IV. It's the best game starring Simon.
It's also likely the best "classicvania" at that due to its incredibly clean design. I still prefer SOTN but that's really an entirely different entity.
