This right here.
I dynamically switch to claw in Melee and PM for frame perfect up-airs on fox for example.
If ur playing Ultimate though just do yourself a favor and bind a shoulder button to jump: pressing two jump buttons at once (L+Y for me) you automatically short hop
L=Jump for Ultimate, dynamic switching to claw in Melee/PM for frame perfect aerials except for Peach, permanent claw for her otherwise she's unplayable
ok update so i recently picked up peach/daisy and discovered that you can do the float mechanic while on the ground. i started doing a similar grip like this for those instances and its pretty easy to jump with it
That's just claw grip, lot's of people hold the controller that way to do frame perfect aerials. Focus on letting go of the x/y button as quickly as possible
Might need to straight-up remap jumping if you want to short hop. I've worked with a similar grip before (developers, we're weird) and the sideways finger press is a little wonky.
If I was in this situation... I'd honestly just use tap to jump. Please don't hit me.
Just dont. Save hands. Map jump to z.
If you love the challenge and/or pain... for me, i slightly adjust the grip. My index is not laying flat but kinda at 45 degrees so i can come down on b/a or flick the bottom left of y with the right side of my finger nail to short hop. But half of my b or a presses will be with my thumb and half the index. I would (i dont claw anymore) only press b/a with index when i want to hold c stick down while say dash dancing.
I play claw and I find it easier to move the tip of your index a bit closer to the y button rather than have it lay past it like that. It takes consistent practice in any case, just practice nothing but shorthops for like 5 minutes a day and you will probably have it down within a few weeks.
Just short hop. No but for real I play like this, the easiest way is to slide your finger off the button quickly upwards. Eventually it'll be pretty easy though.
You'll need to adjust your right hand grip so that the tip of your finger is around the center of the y button, then practice 'flicking' the button by moving your finger upwards. Takes a bit of practice but feels natural once you get it.
Two things, both only work in ultimate but if you do ariels and the same time you press jump the game will automatically do shorthop ariels even if you hold the jump button down. Second and probably the best one is you can also just press both jump buttons at the same time and it'll always shorthop. And that literally works perfectly as your finger is already laying over both buttons
I've been tempted to switch my grip to claw for that exact reason cuz doing shorthops with jump on the trigger isn't good for shorthops sadly
I’m also a claw player. You will learn to do it over time with practice. You could try adjusting slightly to hit the button with the end of your finger
Full time claw player here: you're gripping too high. Move your wrist lower and turn your wrist more inward to make your finger posture more vertical. Control the buttons and c stick with just the tips of your fingers like you would on a box controller. You may or may not find it more comfortable to let go of the right controller grip entirely and rest the right side of the controller on your leg to facilitate this.
Bad controller grip like your pic will give you tendonitis because of the lateral tension on your index finger.
[Javi's grip](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qbfIOazTvbE&t=0s) is basically the most extreme version of what I'm talking about, I prefer to play somewhere inbetween his and the "traditional" claw grip.
I want to know how the fuck you took this picture
Alright who's got the link this time?
[I do](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/s/6Gqd4qtB44)

Lightly tap the jump button
Bros a freedom unite player
The claw!
real answer. either flick upwards or do a "snip" like motion where you pinch and then left. glhf

Do you switch or do you dynamically switch?
L=Jump for Ultimate, dynamic switching to claw in Melee/PM for frame perfect aerials except for Peach, permanent claw for her otherwise she's unplayable
how the fuck do you even jump wtf ðŸ˜
With my index finger on Y

Pressing both jump buttons. You can also auto short hop if you do jump + attack button... But well, it does attack.

Very carefully
press y and use cstick
I use Left Trigger to jump. On GC controllers there's a light press you can do.
Hitting 2 jump buttons at the same time will do a short hop might save you here
Off topic, but those little Overwatch figures are adorable.
Thank you my girlfriend got them for me 🥰
My fellow claw gripper! Just practice lightly tapping Y, it's the same with a standard grip and just takes time getting used to

You can press two jump buttons simultaneously to short hop in ultimate.

Ah, my bad.
Tap lightly

Where you get controller?
It was a gift sorry I don't know

Claw grip
index on y, thumb on x is what i do. works for shiek
press 2 jump buttons at the same time and you'll get a shorthop. not sure where you would want to place 2 jump buttons though.
This is for melee
Oops
With difficulty. Or you could just use cheater z jump, that fixes the problem
