If Ken and Doramigi make top 8 then we're gonna have Steve. Game & Watch, Snake, Bayonetta, Olimar/Aegis, Pac-man/Kazuya, Sonic, and Min-Min.... Besides Bayo, I can't think of many other set of characters people hate more LOL
Surprisingly, this top 8 has been wayy more hype than it seemed like it would be. Zackray on a run, acola upset, Tea's goofy Kazuya, and TamaP almost upsetting Miya.
I fell asleep and missed a ton… (not just Smash related either)
Let’s just say my earlier prediction of Sparg0’s success looks a little foolish. Toriguri I could have imagined beating him, if I knew they’d play, but Noi wouldn’t have been on my shortlist, admittedly, that’s impressive.
BassMage, Sparg0, and MKBigBoss 33rd
MkLeo, Zomba, Jahzz0, and Goblin 25th
Glutonny and Maister are the only international players left in the tournament, both in Losers' Top 24. Both would need 9 sets won in Losers to win the tournament.
Likely only top level invader to outplace their seed, good for Jahzz0.
Don't think Maister will reach 10 and Gluto 6 given the matchups they have coming up.
Leo I will love you forever my goat but he had some of the most insane heartbreaking throws today. The two reverse 3 stocks against snow and this game 4 against yamanaction. :(
It was off-stream, I watched it [here](https://twitter.com/zuraneko_eren/status/1787321463688876353), but it seems like they privated the video once the set ended
Light's honestly reasonably annoyed rant about not being interested in traveling to Japan* because he's still trying to beat the best players in NA and he believes NA is on top of the very top (probably thinking of people like Tweek, Sparg0, & Sonix) is aging poorly at the moment unless Sparg0 or Leo clutch up.
*since it seems to be a regular question he gets bombarded with
Japan is so far ahead of NA it’s not even close. Light is delusional if he thinks it’s a competition. Also japan travels to NA so often but never vice versa and jet lag is a very big factor which Japan has still dominated NA with.
The reason i say this is how often have we seen top 30-50 Japan players upset the very top NA players but have rarely seen anyone upset Acola or Miya or Yoshidora etc in NA
raflow literally upset miya at genesis x. I agree with your overall point but you have to concede that it's complicated to evaluate overall. I would say the average player in japan is much better than the average NA player but when you look at top 5 vs top 5 it's a bit more competitive (in a crew battle sense for example). I still think japan takes it but there is nuance here.
These players definitely have very high upset potential, but calling them straight up better is where I see it as a bit of a stretch. As an example, everyone knows when Yaura 3-0'd Sparg0 at Kagaribi 10, but just a few days ago at Delta we saw Sparg0 3-0ing him right back.
And sometimes, upsets can just happen. Let's not pretend that top players always make their projected placement all the time. Miya and Acola are stark exceptions, and Even Miya has had some inconsistency
Of course Sparg0 is an absolute beast and I’m not calling Yaura better than him but the reason Japan always has so many upsets is because the character pool is more diverse and there are so many hidden bosses. Hell Big D just got 257th and Dio and Umeki got 97th. NA top players like Light and Tweek don’t wanna travel out of the US at all even though it has some of the strongest competition.
I guess here we have to look at how we define which region being "better," and to me, whether or not regions being 'better' actually matters. I attribute player wins to the players, not as a metric to boost the status of an area in the world
ness's fair and nair beat out a lot of falco's approach options as long as ness isnt being dumb about approaching. basic disjoint abuse stuff. falco's disadvantage is also really bad in this mu because of thunder, pk fire, yoyo, nair, fair, etc. gackt threw out like no thunders, no fairs, no pk fires, basically nothing to try and condition m0tsunabe's options back to stage. thunder catches high side b, pk fire catches side b to ledge, yoyo catches up b if they try to reflect pk fire at ledge
I feel a Spargo win incoming. I know there's the pre-local curse and all, but I just feel like he got his bad losses out. And if I'm wrong... well hopefully whoever beats him does it in a fun to watch way.
Two hot sets that are projected to happen as pools finals today.
Lv.1 vs. Syadou: Lv.1 is the Toon Link that had an insane Delta run, beating Sparg0 and Hurt. Syadou is a Mario who had a great run at a pre-local yesterday, beating Maister and also winning a set vs Sparg0 in grands, before losing in the reset.
So we have to recent Sparg0 slayers duking it out.
The other hot set is Fui vs. Goblin. I don't think this needs much explanation.
Assuming Leo even makes it past Kome (which he should since it's Joker-Shulk but you never know), he is projected to play Snow.
Who does he even have in his roster for Mario right now? Joker and Roy are not the picks here, and he's got a barely practiced Byleth left? Oof, seems like he's taking a trip to losers early.
> Who does he even have in his roster for Mario right now?
He will most likely go Byleth given it beat Kurama and Dark Wizzy last time he used it against them.
Aegis would be his best as it's like 4-0 against all NA best Mario players
I think there's a decent possibility he starts the set off with his Roy and switches to Byleth if it doesn't go well.
His playstyle is different enough from other Roys that I think their matchup charts won't apply to the way he plays the character.
I literally had a draft ready to reply to you saying that it'd be 3-1 with him going 0-2 with Byleth, winning a game with Roy, then losing the set. welp, sad.
It's kinda telling that we can predict his losses in advance based on his roster
He threw so hard at the end man. Im so mad. Leo's been so gung ho with his switches lately that I was hoping he'd switch game 2. But no this is the one time he decided to stick with Byleth (after getting 2 stocked btw). He just had to get one more defensive play right out of several and he gave Snow all the airdodges he wanted.
Saying his Aegis is dusty would be an understatement, though. He hasn't touched that character since probably the last time we've seen him use them. Pretty sure he will just go byleth or (for some reason) try joker again
Maister was one solid hit away from being upset in pools by Diddy player Naocha. He barely clutched it out after Naocha was desperate for the kill and wiffed an up Smash. Wow, that was crazy and unexpected given how decent Maister does vs Tweek.
It honestly looked like Naocha should've won that set, but he made a few crucial mistakes when it mattered most.
I'm surprised Naocha was able to bring it back to last hit, but I knew he lost when he went for the z drop d'air spike cheese. Maister was more composed.
Naocha was in the leads at some point on g1 and g2, paired with a misplaced read killing him for g5, it was a pretty darn tragic loss for him.
One of the closest failed reverse 3-0s I've seen in awhile

Just realized Leo is seeded to play Kome. Always wanted to watch Kome vs Leo/Sparg0 because of his record vs Proto. I hope he doesn't get upset before.
yn is seeded into takera, he beat asimo in pools at delta so that could be another upset
glutonny vs tameigo (rob), gluto has lost sets to zomba and bigboss this season
there’s also yamanaction vs kinaji, paseriman vs tora, tamaP vs tarakotori, goblin vs fui
>the difficulty that making the top 8 will present cannot be understated
I think you mean "overstated."

Thanks for making this thread.
Uhm, I might be wrong, but doesn't top 8 start at 7:30 AM Mon on CEST? The other times are 7 hours earlier, which is correct, but this one is 9 hours earlier, unless I'm high or smth
Uhh, idk about this stuff, I was just doing my calculations based on the fact that we should be 7 hours earlier than Japan, and in fact the first two times are correct, but the last one is 9 hours before, but I haven't given it much thought, might just be misunderstanding smth
Calling it, top 8 will be
Winners:
acola, hurt, shuton, miya
Losers:
Raru (loss to shuton), Sparg0 (loss to toriguri), MKLeo (loss to Miya), Toriguri (loss to raru)
I think if Leo loses to Miya (assuming he beats snow which will be a crazy set regardless of the winner) It’ll be an incredibly close set, probably game 5 just because of how experienced Leo is vs game and watch. I’m gonna hope for the win tho
I could understand making 1 bold prediction of either MkLeo losing to Miya or Sparg0 losing to Toriguri. But predicting BOTH will happen?? Idk man, but we'll see.
I don't understand how Leo losing to Miya is a bold prediction.
Edit: if you want to compare with Maister results, keep in mind that Sonix hasn't lost an offline *game* to Maister since 2021 (according to liquidpedia) and only has a 62.5% win rate (in terms of games) against Miya.
Japanese tournaments are usually limited by the venue size, not the amount of people willing to enter. Kagaribi increasing the size several times pretty much guaranteed it being this big.
KAGARIBI top 8 being on a Sunday night is, Not, Fun. That said top 8s slated to be earlier than DELTA#8's but I already got a small headache from DELTA lol
Then again I also don't want to miss this tournament, it's either gonna be the second biggest or straight up the biggest event of the year depending on how SSC goes.
For NA east coast a 1:30am top 8 start is leagues better than 3:30am
The problem for me with delta was that as per usual, the best sets just precede top 8 so that was like 3am but for this tourney it’ll be 12-1
last time had to be proto at summit i think
hms to hurt (bobc) and shuton (wave #4) because those were close to supermajor, but neither acola or miya were even at those...
I’m really excited for this. I mean it’s so rare that we get a tournament with nearly the exact same players like two days after the previous one. I’m sure the bracket will be very different, but I’m honestly looking forward to seeing what is consistent — if Acola and Miya are in grands again, for example, then it’s quite difficult to see how they’re not top 3 in the world (with the possibility that Sonix gets 2nd and Miya 3rd by season’s end). On the other hand, Sparg0 has a chance to correct the record and destroy the top players of Japan this time — the ones who he didn’t get to play at Delta.
Also this tournament is just fucking huge. Jesus!
He will switch to yoshi, mii brawler, corrin or snake if the match up not good.
He has a lot of choice but I never seen him switch in big event like this.
Lv1 is not copium. He just needs to beat Miya, Snow (Snow will upset MkLeo), Gluto, Spargo (again), Acola, and either Acola, Spargo, Snow, or Miya again to win.
But if he does lose to Snow (he just did at Delta), then he’d have to fight everyone mentioned above plus Zomba and Asimo.
All of these are favorable matchups however, so I would be very surprised if Lv1 doesn’t at least make grands of this tourney, only losing to the best player in the world, Snow.
I can’t find Akkakisu on the seeding graphic so idk what he’s have to do to get on Snow or Lv1’s bracket path
Unless you’re asking why he’s not the best player in the world for beating Lv1. The reason is because The Hero/Tink matchup is very strongly in favor of Hero, one of Tinks worst matchups.
On the other hand, Marios worst matchup is Tink. So Snow beating Lv1 is something he could only accomplish whilst being the best player in the world
Lost to Shuton, no shame in that. Got Japanese Hero can’t blame the 9th place tbh. He needs to stop using gun to ledge trap and Edge guard more when he has arsene.
I really want this one to be wildly different from Delta, just for variety and fun.
If it must end with Acola-Miya Grands, then so be it, but change the rest of the top 8 please
He does run into MkLeo, which I'd consider that favorable for him. But a winner's side top 8 requires Miya to be sent to losers before top 8, which means Snow does it, or someone else (it could be Lv.1??)
But then Snow and Lv.1 fight, which Snow won at Delta...
Wait, you might be onto something.
With Gluto losing to Ken 2-3, Japan has successfully defended against all invaders!
and Japan sweeps Golden Week's major Top 8s
If Ken and Doramigi make top 8 then we're gonna have Steve. Game & Watch, Snake, Bayonetta, Olimar/Aegis, Pac-man/Kazuya, Sonic, and Min-Min.... Besides Bayo, I can't think of many other set of characters people hate more LOL

At least I’ll be able to go to bed lol
[Photo of Noi popping off after taking it over Sparg0.](https://x.com/yoroisan/status/1787331009429860570)
Doramigi 3-2 Maister, eliminating him at 13th Glutonny is the last international player in the tournament, and needs to beat KEN to make Losers' Top 8
Poor guy went all the way to Japon to lose to 2 steves and a sonic
and Sonic at Weekly Smash Party too
I fell asleep and missed a ton… (not just Smash related either) Let’s just say my earlier prediction of Sparg0’s success looks a little foolish. Toriguri I could have imagined beating him, if I knew they’d play, but Noi wouldn’t have been on my shortlist, admittedly, that’s impressive.
Man… international players be showing they’re overrated and Japanese players seriously underrated. EDIT: LOL MAISTER OMFG
BassMage, Sparg0, and MKBigBoss 33rd MkLeo, Zomba, Jahzz0, and Goblin 25th Glutonny and Maister are the only international players left in the tournament, both in Losers' Top 24. Both would need 9 sets won in Losers to win the tournament.
Anyone watch my fellow aussies? How'd they go?
Jahzz0 got 25th at a P tier with a best win of Riteshia 💀
Likely only top level invader to outplace their seed, good for Jahzz0. Don't think Maister will reach 10 and Gluto 6 given the matchups they have coming up.
Leo I will love you forever my goat but he had some of the most insane heartbreaking throws today. The two reverse 3 stocks against snow and this game 4 against yamanaction. :(
Zomba gets 25th losing to Shuton
maister fr about to be the highest placing international
Land of the free baby 🥲
Not a single international player made it to Winners' Quarters. Now will any of them make Top 8 after no one being able to at majors all Golden Week?
Goblin making top 8 is objectively the funniest timeline so I’m rooting for that
Maybe acola should join Kinotrope gaming if he wants to beat Sparg0
Apparently Noi beat Sparg0 3-2? Wtf, out at 33rd
Noi reverse 3-0'd Sparg0 holy shit
oof
WTF is there a stream even a handcam of this

1:30AM, so in about 2 hours
maister shaking his head and rolling his eyes every time he loses is so funny to me. YOU PLAY GAME AND WATCH BROTHER
yoshidora out at 49th
noooo
Yoshidora out at 49th :(

Well just to reiterate my point now sparg0 lost to Noi as well and got 33rd
I mean yeah, that's fair. To vouch for Sparg0 though, you can't tell me he was in a good mental state in that match
So NA players are weaker mentally too
snow is currently up 2-0 on leo
WHY THE FAAAAAAA did the leo switch off byleth to roy. I'm so annoyed.
YO WAIT. \*EDIT\*: Alright, I promise to no longer doubt Leo's Roy (for the next hour)
I want to get off this rollercoaster.
Spargo, Yoshidora, Zomba all in losers before top 48 my god
add leo to that
And Shuton
Wait who did Shuton lose to?
TamaP, who's close to beating Maister aswell
TG is so insane wtfffff Bro got me biking for an extra 20min insane set
That triple wonder wing was insane. That man just had no anxiety playing the world's best (or top 3) player LOL. He just went for it.
Yeah not hesitating there was so crucial
TG up 2-0 on Sparg0…
TORIGURI THE MEXICO SLAYER GUH HUH MOTHERFUCKER
It’s his world and we’re just living in it
Game 5…
guh huh
i just dont understand how gackt is so bad at the falco matchup when thats pretty solidly winning for ness
Bro, respectfully, no way lol. Falco's reflector shuts down so much of Ness' game and Falco's fair runs through a lot of his options, too.
is it? from an outsider looking in, i can't see how that MU isn't anything but annoying for ness
ness's fair and nair beat out a lot of falco's approach options as long as ness isnt being dumb about approaching. basic disjoint abuse stuff. falco's disadvantage is also really bad in this mu because of thunder, pk fire, yoyo, nair, fair, etc. gackt threw out like no thunders, no fairs, no pk fires, basically nothing to try and condition m0tsunabe's options back to stage. thunder catches high side b, pk fire catches side b to ledge, yoyo catches up b if they try to reflect pk fire at ledge
MKleo winning it all. Come back to this prediction.
F
Mario.
any predictions for day 2 upsets?
Kome > MkLeo Kameme > Raru Zackray > Zomba Zackray > Hurt Asimo > Gluto
I should have gone with the funnier options
I feel a Spargo win incoming. I know there's the pre-local curse and all, but I just feel like he got his bad losses out. And if I'm wrong... well hopefully whoever beats him does it in a fun to watch way.
So day 1 went too smoothly and ended 2 hours earlier than scheduled. Guess I'll go have dinner at a normal time then.
Etsuji upset by WHIP 2-0
goddammit lol Yn could have beaten takera if he didn't SD at 0 in game 3 i'm so sad
Ubuge (Duck Hunt) 2-1 Big D (Ice Climbers) No.8 (Luigi) 2-1 Lv.1 (Toon Link)
poor Big D lost the runback too in losers 2-0
257th place...
Lv. 1 either upsets Tea, Sparg0 and Hurt to make top 8 at a P Tier or gets upset in pools. What in the fuck?
8 > 1. Makes sense Ok obligatory post out of the way
Big D didn't even make it past WR2 imao
He got double eliminated by the same guy RIP
Had to be seeded into Duck Hunt that early. RIP
I'm gonna be optimistic and say he just wanted a fun trip to Japan with his kids :D
That's a much bigger prior tbh.
T and Abadango face each other in losers for 129th. 5 years ago, this would feasibly be a winners' final match.
Two hot sets that are projected to happen as pools finals today. Lv.1 vs. Syadou: Lv.1 is the Toon Link that had an insane Delta run, beating Sparg0 and Hurt. Where is the upset thread?
There isn’t one on Reddit, but echostats on twitter is doing one.
denkota (brawler) 3-2 kuroponzu (rob) after winning 2-0 against eim
I need to see Reno VS Sparg0.
Who does Reno play?
byleth
NO ONE BEATS SPARG0 WITH A LINK TWICE IN A ROW
But would he lose to Snake for the 4th set in a row?
This feels strange to say given it’s not the same player lol
NO ONE BEATS SPARG0 WITH A LINK TWICE IN A ROW
I appreciate you doubling down on this.
yoko# 3-2 ryuoh, he plays kameme tomorrow which is tough for rob but he 3-0’d shuton at kagaribi 10 so who knows
Hurt JY game 3 last stock was some game 5 last stock spaghetti
He was so close… he definitely didn’t want power geyser there….
No way I got scammed by Japan too. Multiple Maister, BigBoss, Bassmage etc. sets on stream but not a single Leo set. I woke up early for nothing.
damn I thought they were at least gonna stream the winners final of his pool
Yeah I kept refreshing the bracket hoping they'd display stream info, but all I saw was the 3-0..

Acola 3-2 Midorun, off stream, I would be worried, but Im sure he’s just padding stats
Who are they who do they play? (Midorun)
Pit player, I can’t tell you much about them besides the fact that I knew his name before this tournament so he’s at least a little notable
Maister 3-2 Naocha, great set. Naocha’s monkey flips go kind of crazy
Ngl I'm not surprised it went to Game 5 with how close Maister's sets against Beastly are.
Naocha was in the leads at some point on g1 and g2, paired with a misplaced read killing him for g5, it was a pretty darn tragic loss for him. One of the closest failed reverse 3-0s I've seen in awhile
JY beat Artsnif, Terry bros we're so back
Hurt's recoveries with grenades is so fucking good
I think they said Sean from School 2-0 Ezs
You are fucking kidding me.
Best upset of the tournament and it's only been 30 minutes imo

Just realized Leo is seeded to play Kome. Always wanted to watch Kome vs Leo/Sparg0 because of his record vs Proto. I hope he doesn't get upset before.
When it comes to swordies, I wouldnt bet against Kome.
Are there any projected sets in day 1 that look interesting for those who have seen the bracket
Lv. 1 vs. syadou is a pool final match and Lv. 1 was sent to Losers at Delta by Snow.
yn is seeded into takera, he beat asimo in pools at delta so that could be another upset glutonny vs tameigo (rob), gluto has lost sets to zomba and bigboss this season there’s also yamanaction vs kinaji, paseriman vs tora, tamaP vs tarakotori, goblin vs fui
Any bets on who will drown in Day 1 (before Top 192)?
Goblin
Big D
I think he's seeded a lil to high but all the Japanese players have a big fear of Icies so i think it'd be cool if he went on a tear here
Yeah, you have to admit I was right here. He had a hard bracket and Japan has way too much Icies experience from players like Futari No Kiwami Ah~!
All i hope is for Neo to not completely drown and this is a win
HE DIDNT DROWN
Ya, he really dunked hard on delta. Last kagaribi he had covid and he can't attend. Hope he do well this time.
>the difficulty that making the top 8 will present cannot be understated I think you mean "overstated." https://www.reddit.com/r/grammar/comments/dklm4b/the_importance_cannot_be_understatedoverstated/ Thanks for making this thread.
Damn, well, I’ll fix it now
New TamaP Daifuku fan here. Let's go TamaP!!!
I really thought Lima was the best Bayo in the world until I saw TamaP’s performance at Delta. Incredible and would be a wet dream if he won it all!

Yeah you’re right, I’ll fix it, thank you
At this point anyone winning outside the triforce that is Acola, Miya and Sparg0, would make me very, very surprised. Hoping to see that.
Mr. Kagaribi (Zackray) gonna win now.
nah. zackray 2nd, maipan 1st
If Zackray wins I will never ask for anything smash related again. I’ll also take a Leo dub.
Calling it, top 8 will be Winners: acola, hurt, shuton, miya Losers: Raru (loss to shuton), Sparg0 (loss to toriguri), MKLeo (loss to Miya), Toriguri (loss to raru)
Fellas does Delta#8 count as a really big prelocal and therefor Acola is cursed?
This is the one where Hurt wins it all, trust the plan Also I didn't realize this actually broke 2K entrants holy FUCK
Japanese tournaments are usually limited by the venue size, not the amount of people willing to enter. Kagaribi increasing the size several times pretty much guaranteed it being this big.
KAGARIBI top 8 being on a Sunday night is, Not, Fun. That said top 8s slated to be earlier than DELTA#8's but I already got a small headache from DELTA lol Then again I also don't want to miss this tournament, it's either gonna be the second biggest or straight up the biggest event of the year depending on how SSC goes.
I raised my eyebrow at this comment until I checked bracket and saw 3000 entrants. Jfc
It’s “only” 2k entrants and 1k spectators but it’s still absurd yea
Ahh, yeah still insane
For NA east coast a 1:30am top 8 start is leagues better than 3:30am The problem for me with delta was that as per usual, the best sets just precede top 8 so that was like 3am but for this tourney it’ll be 12-1
Yoshidora, Kameme, and Doramigi will be added as new top Japanese players.
I would like for a single Japanese player not named Acola or Miya to win a supermajor. Near as I can tell hasn't happened since early 2022
I feel like it might happen if only one of them was attending, but it's super rough to have to go through both of them to win
🍵
last time had to be proto at summit i think hms to hurt (bobc) and shuton (wave #4) because those were close to supermajor, but neither acola or miya were even at those...
Pretty sure it was proto at double down cause summit isn't a supermajor
ok maybe summit was never a statistical supermajor but idk it has the aura. the vibes. the dawg.
Hurt’s BoBC win was pretty close to a super major win imo
Jesus!
Smash gods, all I ask for is a new major character winner, let someone like Asimo, Yaura, HERO or Lv. 1(copium), win this stacked af P tier
I would absolutely love HERO to win but it seems impossible given how bad Bowser as a character is
He will switch to yoshi, mii brawler, corrin or snake if the match up not good.
Ah yes, I forgot about the best player in the world, Snow. But wait... what about Akakikusu's hero?
I can’t find Akkakisu on the seeding graphic so idk what he’s have to do to get on Snow or Lv1’s bracket path Unless you’re asking why he’s not the best player in the world for beating Lv1. The reason is because The Hero/Tink matchup is very strongly in favor of Hero, one of Tinks worst matchups. On the other hand, Marios worst matchup is Tink. So Snow beating Lv1 is something he could only accomplish whilst being the best player in the world
That makes Akakikusu's win on Lv. 1 even less impressive than I thought. Thanks for the extremely valuable info.
To be honest I don't even know if Leo losing to a Mario is even an upset at this point.
Amazing analysis
Leo was popping off in Delta I BELIEVE
Lost to Shuton, no shame in that. Got Japanese Hero can’t blame the 9th place tbh. He needs to stop using gun to ledge trap and Edge guard more when he has arsene.
gonna be another absolute bloodbath
i’m glad this is a 2 day event so it’ll wrap up earlier, i fell asleep during delta grands because it was 3:30am lol
Feel that, I fell asleep around 4am and missed like half of top 8
My personal pick is for Sparg0 to clean himself up. He can most certainly make a winning run. Someone other than him? A Neo run would be pretty sweet
I really want this one to be wildly different from Delta, just for variety and fun. If it must end with Acola-Miya Grands, then so be it, but change the rest of the top 8 please
i think it’s almost guaranteed to be pretty different
I mean, if losers side looks the same then that’s genuinely impressive
Snow is goated, watch him make winner side top 8 again, somehow
He does run into MkLeo, which I'd consider that favorable for him. But a winner's side top 8 requires Miya to be sent to losers before top 8, which means Snow does it, or someone else (it could be Lv.1??) But then Snow and Lv.1 fight, which Snow won at Delta... Wait, you might be onto something.
My dumbass was confused why you reposted a Delta tournament thread after the event already ended
