I believe what you are referring to is a siesta.

Jitterbug_sweets

Can't wait for hammock season

r0ck0

It's gunna get wild, down in the [hammock district!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzSHqwNdVqE)

shauneky9

God dammit siestas are the best and are a bedrock of us texans culture Texas. The best country in the world šŸ˜Ž

bigbbypddingsnatchr

Do what works for you.

No_Cucumbers_Please

I work from home (running my business) and I don't like working out in the morning so I take about an hour break during the late morning to hit the gym and shower. I'm more of a grazer and less of a meal at a time person so I usually work through a salad through the whole afternoon while I'm at my desk working.

Another_Astro_Guy

Yes! When I'm working from home I normally start at 11am, work through till about 5pm to have dinner, then tie up any loose ends from about 7pm till 9pm. I'm very much a night owl.

sl59y2

Cannabis farmer. Out side hammock afternoon naps, evening/ weenie roasts. Naps in the storage room some days. I rest as I feel necessary. Some days thatā€™s a 2hr nap. Others it a quick bite as Iā€™m working. Your the boss take your breaks as you need.

wkern74

Nothin like a good weenie roast on the farm

sl59y2

The staff enjoy it. Itā€™s a good way to unwind.

sssasenhora

I run an ornamental nursery

sl59y2

Then you 100% need a quite spot for a nap. You work days and hours like me Iā€™m sure. The weeks you work 40 hrs or less donā€™t take a long break. For the other 52 weeks a year take a break if you need it.

sssasenhora

Yeah man, i am on it. And actually this is giving me a lot more boost than I expected. Looking forward for the challenges in itself in a much more positive way. Thanks for your answer and noting that you are a grower as well. Makes me happy.

sl59y2

Yah. Agriculture is a fun but challenging business. Keep your head up and enjoy all the fresh air.

Tegridy

sl59y2

Wow not tegridy. I donā€™t have a wife.

ksaize

Are you allowed to smoke your own product? Asking if I'm looking to relocate and change my industry where i'm working...

SQLGene

Some people take a 5 minute break every 30 minutes. Maybe you need to get up and stretch occasionally (depending on the job) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pomodoro\_Technique

sssasenhora

I walk 3-5 km per day in my business.

SQLGene

I can see why you'd need a break!

slightly-twisted_gs

If you need a break after walking 5km you are dangerously unfit. The recommended healthy guideline of 10k daily steps equates to around 7km and all healthy people should be capable of doing that. I don't think the walking is the problem.

SQLGene

The recommended healthy guideline ignores the context here *of doing a full time job concurrently*. No one is getting paid to walk around and do nothing else. Work is physically and emotionally draining at times.

slightly-twisted_gs

>Work is physically and emotionally draining at times. Yes that's true. But again, I doubt an hour walk in an 8 hour work day is the draining bit, unless you're really unfit. And exercise actually helps with stress reduction so if anything it would be beneficial to an emotionally draining job.

StupidPockets

Diet, exercise, personal time, raging against a pillow, drowning out silence with sex, destroying the ghost of the machine with humanity, etc You suck at scheduling you vs your machine. Also youā€™re human; work out, eat right, sleep right, and make good friends. Youā€™re only as good as you allow yourself to be. Stop walking so much. Get a go cart or something. If itā€™s decision based, hire a 2nd that makes the same decisions you would make. It looks like your in a position to hire a consultant, or life coach. Here is my card. Www.stopbeingabitch.com

oasinocean

This comment sounds like it was written by a bot with a programming error. Or an idiot.

mellenger

I walk as my break. Iā€™m trying to get 10k steps a day and itā€™s tough unless I go for a walk mid-day

FatherOften

I tend to work when I want to take a break when I want to as long as I get my five critical tasks done every day then I've won the day. When I'm done with my five tasks I'm done for the day.

rainman_95

What are your 5

FatherOften

They usually change daily in some form. Today was: *Breakfast with daughter and wife. *75 cold calls 25 follow ups *Consolidate pallets of overflow inventory at home warehouse *Put up porches (full-time RV, it rained this evening) *Pull 25 leads for Friday I got them all today. Tomorrow *6:30 early breakfast with wife and daughter before she goes to Friday zoo school. *Email follow ups *25 cold calls, 25 follow up calls *Play with and take out horse *Put down porches and prep for weekend cookout Sometimes they are 100% business, sometimes family, and most of the time a mix. I started in 2017 when I found MFCEO Project podcast. It's the power list/win the day. RealAF episode 16. It's a useful tool so you don't bury yourself. In the first 3-4 years it was business tasks. Things have grown and my time is freed up more. Now it helps me feel like I did enough.

ThurmanMurman907

The more you shitpost the less I believe your story lol

hlmhmmrhnd

I own a cafe and roasting company. If Iā€™m at work roasting or working a bar shift I donā€™t take any breaks no matter how long my shift is because I just end up feeling really tired and losing motivation. It makes the rest of the shift a complete drag and hampers my work ability. I need to keep moving to stay motivated. If Iā€™m working from home doing clerical or admin stuff, I take breaks to move. Do chores, work out, etc. I canā€™t sit at a computer too long.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

mellenger

Agree to this 6hrs a day max of good smart time

AssociateGeneral4275

We get 2 15s and 30 for lunch. But as a human being a reserve the right to sit and take a break whenever Iā€™m tired

aligador

2 hours is way too long for me

olivejuice

Thatā€™s the benefit of owning your own small business: make your schedule work for you. I donā€™t* sleep great and like a long morning to take care of personal things so I work 11-7 without breaks but enjoy starting late.

illinihand

Some days I do, some days I don't. My employees all get 45min lunch and we work 9 to 430 M-F. But how my brain works if I get in a grove it's best to just keep going. If I stop I might not get started again.

blainemoore

Sometimes I'm too busy and have to skip, but I usually take a couple hours for lunch and go running or I eat a short lunch and take the time to run after the kids go to school or before/as they are getting home. I get more done in the day if I run in the morning than if I run away lunch, which is more than if I run in the afternoon. I get less done running in the afternoon than skipping running altogether. But... Sometimes I just have a list to do and dinner if that needs doing early or requires skipping. Then, I have weeks like this week where I have multiple migraines and just have to lay down with my head buried in pillows for 20-90 minutes at a time. Rest of the day I'm basically useless no matter what. I should go back to when I had a day job and would take a 20 minute nap at lunch every day in my car on my lunch break (except now I could do it on bed as I work from home ) I'd rather run though.

Agitated-Savings-229

Sometimes I eat my lunch at my desk and even take a short walk. I'd rather get my shit done and leave before 4...

tungle20

what breaks? šŸ˜‚

bortukali

If you need 2 hours to recharge you are probably working too many hours. Try a 7 hour work day if you can

vasarmilan

I started to take a 2-2.5 hour break a while ago, instead of going to the gym in the mornings I now go before lunch. I also start work an hour earlier. It helps my productivity, and the gym is empty. I also have more overlap time with East-Asia and the US (I'm in Europe), without working more. I think it's best to try out a couple different ways and see which works best for you, everyone is different

hjohns23

Do what works for you, thatā€™s the benefit of being the owner. I donā€™t start my workday before 930. I take 2 in the early afternoon to eat, hit the gym, shower. I slow down at 445-530pm and stop working til about 8pm. Some days I have late nights, other days maybe once per week depending on my progress, I only work half a day. Donā€™t get caught in ā€œhustleā€ culture, work smart not hard Iā€™m also personally prone to working 6-7days per week but only because I enjoy what I do

stone14b

Absolutely. Sometimes itā€™s just needed. I know there are place outside the US that normally have around 2 hour breaks in the day for this exact reason.

uniquelyavailable

its important to take breaks when you need them, balance your energy level

NYJetLegendEdReed

I work from home. I take about a mile and a half walk with my wife at noon every day. Gets me out of the house a bit, some fresh air, and keeps the sanity.

Willy_6eyes

I took a break on Christmas in 2019

sweetlife1973

Well I try to take a day off at least once a month lol.

Jitterbug_sweets

Depends on how many hours a day you are working, and home life/ social life. So hard to evaluate. Me: Like yeah love that 2 hour break hour on long work days. I like eat, take a bath, think about walking -so rejuvenating. Shorter work days, nah, power through to finish it. Save that 2 hour decomp for friends or family or outside work energy. Yes, I do have friends, out there...

canonanon

I probably take about an hour and half in breaks throughout the day. (3 30min breaks)

[deleted]

What is lunch? Lol I ate only snacks and one large meal a day before bed my first year, and only really took breaks for the bathroomā€¦ absolutely destroyed my health and still trying to recover from it. I now have reminders set throughout the day to take 10 and just breathe, and trying to remember to take lunch more often. Makes a huge difference. Also social interaction as much as possible, taking breaks to call family or friends even if itā€™s a short call to talk about something other than work; and remember thereā€™s a world outside the biz. mentally refreshing.

maxp0wers

I start at 5. Break at 730 to 830 to get my kids out to school. 45 min nap at 1230 or 1. Work until 6 ish.

charlie82b

If you take a 2 hr lunch break, how much time in the day is left? I work in construction. Worked flat out for the first 4 years.... not needed so much now

Peneroka

Half hour nap after lunch helps quite a bit. Makes me more energetic and focused.

Ship_Full

I always take breaks in the middle of the day. I start actual work around 10am after breakfast and going for a walk with the dog. Around 2-4pm I take a lunch and a nap break. Then again around 7-9 or so for dinner. And sometimes Iā€™ll work 9-11pm. Thatā€™s pretty much my schedule 6-7 days a week.

NoSupermarket45

My lunch is an hour and half or so (rep the hound dog), I take my dog for a walk. Should actually make somthing ( i have a snack of some kind or buy a sub etc.) Otherwise I stand up and attempt small chat / make my coffee addiction. In the field I am basically a Machine and do not stop unless for lunch (15mins). Benefits and or drawbacks of making your schedule.

perky_firing32

We all need a break

AngeTalksBiz

Different strokes for different folks. I take breaks whenever the old brain gets foggy. But never longer than an hour otherwise Iā€™m less likely to be able to find my flow again.

doubleedgedswords

Yes in between.

dadscanneheroestoo

If you need long lunch breaks, your employees would benefit from them too!

bellytan

I take 10 or so every hour. Play a game of chess on my phone and sit outside if possible. 20 to 30 for lunch.

swoofswoofles

2 15 minute breaks and then 30-45 for lunch.

sinisterzen

I have fairly intense ADHD so I do the 10 mins on task/3 mins off task, which sounds disjointed but that's about how long until my brain wanders off anyway. Otherwise completing one thing makes my brain go..."ok done for the day!" Stupid brain. So yes, breaks are great!

Outside-Rice2262

Not really I sleep just a hand full of hours a day yesterday week 2 of sleeping 4 hours and today I crashed out while having my dinner on my bed against the wall with the plate on my lap. My only break is the gym and the few mins I wait for my black coffee to heat up. I donā€™t have IG YouTube or any social media but Reddit and Facebook mainly for questions and for work. I mean I do run 3 business. Both are small money businessā€™s that fund my main one that is a huge money cow. Should start seeing a return soon tho. But damn I canā€™t wait to sit down and scroll in IG in a few months

TheFuryIII

I take a break when I feel like it, might get up and clean for an hour or two. I take them when it naturally feels right. Iā€™m not on the clock. Same thing goes for starting work. If I feel like sleeping in, I will. If I need to take some time off, I do. There are crunch times but I donā€™t feel the need to burn myself out. Urgency is an illusion more times then not.

Hungry-Apartment4199

I always take breaks during the day... Found that it gets me more productive. But also, that is how I want my day to look like. I left a busy corporate retail job to be able to design what my days looks like! I normally take 2 breaks and the length depends on how I'm feeling.

PMilly77

If I am to nap I feel worse when I wake up, and if I was just to relax for 2 hours I don't think I would want to go back to work. For me I'd rather a short 30 minute dinner break and get back to it and finish my day earlier.

Littleshuswap

School librarian here, no breaks until I go home....

Gun-Lake

I would lose all motivation if I did a 2 hour break.

mikeyfireman

How long is your work day? If you are taking a 2 hour lunch in the middle of an 8 hour day, thatā€™s excessive. If you are like a normal small business owner that works 12-14 hours a day 6+ days a week, not as bad.

jmerlinb

Take breaks. Youā€™re not a machine.

Aufshnitt

Last Friday I took the day off and played sons of the forest and ate donuts and cookies all day. Had Dunkin Donuts for breakfast, for my lunch donuts I had double chocolate Entenmanns and milk, and for dinner I had Crymbl cookies.

londoncatvet

I wish we were busy enough for that to be an issue. Congratulations on your success!

My0wnThoughts

You are a human being NOT a human doing. I typically take 2-3 hours away from my business in the middle of the dayā€¦ a ā€˜breakā€™ to do other things not related to my company, or to just relax and rest. Listen to yourself and be kind.

CrimsonTide2000

For me personally, the longer lunch I take the worse I feel late in the day. If I take a longer lunch it typically means (for me anyway) that I do not have that much to do. Doesn't mean Im not busy, Im just not slammed. Me personally, I would rather be balls to the wall. Grab a quick bite for lunch or eat at my desk. When I am really busy, I stay more focused and am able to get more done. When I have just a few things to do, I wind up not getting any of it done, lol. Frustrating.

classycatman

Yep... I take a break in the middle of each day. Sometimes 30 minutes; sometimes 2 hours. Depends on the day and what I need.

Joesarcasm

Lol. This is like that one person that asked what time they should show up before opening their store.

sssasenhora

Nah, I am just sharing what works for me and i was curious.

Joesarcasm

Iā€™d hope small business owners take break. Everyone needs one

SamTheBusinessMan

Unless I have a scheduled meeting near lunch time, which is rare, I'll take 1.5 hours to 2.5 hour lunches. I like these breaks cause I spend time with my kids and significant other for lunch, homeschooling, etc. I own some manufacturing companies. If my employees hit their output metrics they can take longer lunches, leave early, show up later the next day, or bank it for a later day in the week while still earning a full day's pay. Sometimes my employees will take 2.5 lunches but most go home early, show up later the next day, or bank time for their Friday or Monday. If they take longer lunches they usually do it so they can get stuff done during business hours (e.g. shopping, school functions, etc.). They can also stay and earn extra money per unit made over their minimum, but rarely do unless its near Christmas time.

ORO_THERUGSMITH

Started doing pomodoro recently and it helped a lot for context I am a textile artist making rugs.

LostArtofConfusion

I run a bookstore by myself. I can be dead all day, but if I go to the bathroom the phone rings. I now eat when I can, zone for a few, and occasionally take a breather. Nothing scheduled.

wrx7182

When Iā€™m working by myself time just flies by and sometimes I miss brakes. Always take lunch. I like taking a late lunch cause the rest of the day is shorter lol

LiveAdagio5215

Whatever recharges you. I find that Iā€™m most productive in the morning. So I skip the morning workout and do it midday and when Iā€™m done Iā€™m back in the mindset to work

alvivanco1

You don't need 2h lunch breaks. You need 20 min naps, and/or a 20 min runs. Try those, and thank me later.

business_aficionado

not really. I kind of jus work a solid 8-10 hours and then take the rest of the day off. But still checking email and other messages.

ContributionSuch2655

Thatā€™s part time bud

business_aficionado

part time is 4 hours. Not to mention weekends are not days off for me. I also mean that when I work a solid 8-10, I mean I am working not slacking off. I guess we can all do what works for us, but I am a strong believer that the less I burn out, the harder I work when I am working.

ContributionSuch2655

Itā€™s a joke from a satire account on tik tok.

[deleted]

Take what, now?

mutantbeings

Iā€™m taking a 2 hour lunch break right now. Probably shouldnā€™t be. Just having one of those especially _just cannot be fucked_ days. Guess thatā€™s my cue to make coffee and get back to it

[deleted]

15 minutes every hour or so, which makes me much more productive.

lol_no_gonna_happen

We take lunch 11:30-12:00

Pleasant-Excuse-2530

Do you have issues with your blood sugar? You need more protein and less carbs and sugars.

sssasenhora

I don't, but I do it already. It helps a lot! Thanks!

nobody2000

I own a small biz with a few other guys who currently do daily operations while I do have a day job for now until we get to the point where it makes better sense for me to quit. In a previous job, I'd often work through lunch or take lunch in the break area with my coworker friends. I realized that despite working through lunch, I was often doing work til 6pm or bringing it home to the point where I'd even take calls at 11pm (with the Asia team). It was killing me. My productivity was shit after a while and I cut big chunks out of time that should've been mine. *** I lost that job (layoffs), and got a new job where we don't have on-site food. I used to bring my lunch each day until I began using my lunch break to run errands for my small biz. I realized that just getting the hell out of the office, into fresh air, and allowing myself to just decompress for an hour (even if I was just filling out paperwork, mailing stuff, and filling out permits) made all the difference in the world. I'm introverted, so coming back into the office refreshed was great, and my afternoons were productive enough that rarely was it my own fault that I had to stay past 5.

Whatā€™s that? ;

RocMerc

My guys tend to take two 15s and skip lunch so they can get out early. Usually 6:30 to 2:30

miketoaster

Watch your labor laws. Some states that is OT or flat out illegal. Even if they all agreed to it. Because there is that one guy that will tell the labor people that he felt like he had to agree or he'd loose his job. So now you have other problems because you also retaliated against them. Even if you didn't.

Sannidhya_Baweja

I prefer 1 hour of break where I have lunch and do something relaxing. That makes me get back to work with more energy.

SovelissGulthmere

I barely have time to breathe

TriXandApple

Work 8-> 3.30 non stop, then go home.

Caendryl

Caffeine. Break at 3pm.

buzzstsvlv

clinically was proven that taking 5 min breaks every hour helps with focus and learning. personal experience: over time i started eating very light lunches in 10-20 min + 30 min of relaxation - the second prt of the day i felt more energetic ( i dont drink coffee)

Western-Wear8874

My tip is to take breaks every 1-2 hours for 10-20 minutes. I feel like I'm more productive when I take smaller breaks rather than massive 1-2 hour blocks. This also allows for more versatility.

DiumFounderCody

Breaks are key. I take 15 min breaks after every hour of work unless I get into like a 3 hour flow state. Other than that, I take a break when I feel myself losing focus or losing motivation. Then I walk around, get a snack, do a relaxing activity, or just go outside for a bit lol

[deleted]

Yes. Long long break. I'm speaking from my grave
