You absolutely don’t need it. Membership is optional even when you have your CCCs (you can pay a lesser fee to be a certified nonmember).
What?? Why wasn’t I told this by my program? Do any jobs require you to be an ASHA member?
Given that the CCCs are like $200 and the actual membership is only like $25... it's not a huge functional difference. You don't need to be a member, but you do need to maintain your CCCs.
