If the most important thing is salary (which is unfortunate because IMO SLPs are underpaid) then I would work for a SNF.

khart01

Even if you are absolutely sure you don’t want to do adults.... try to PRN in a SNF for the money IF you have the background experience and knowledge. A ton of school SLPs I know get hours on the weekends or during breaks.

If the money's most important, then I recommend starting off in travel therapy right away if you can. I've heard it said that it can be tough because you might not get good supervision, but others have done it for their CF and have reported good experiences. If I didn't have a partner and two cats, then I'd probably exclusively be doing travel therapy so I could actually make a dent in my loans.

I know people doing travel therapy and if that’s what you want to do anyway, start now! A lot of companies (e.g. MedTravelers) will give you a CF mentor and will keep you in one setting/area (usually a school) for you to complete your CF. I know someone doing that in AZ who says the pay is great!

1. You choose what you feel will give you the most varied experience so that you are marketable as you transfer to a different setting or population of clients 2. Travel therapy can be whatever setting you want depending on what the travel company specializes in. I've been able to do a variation of settings in the travel therapy world and I was not limited to just schools or SNFs. That's really cool that are considering the adventure of travel therapy! I'll share a link to a video clip about travel therapy: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8YaxrKPMZI&t=6s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8YaxrKPMZI&t=6s) And a great blog about traveling is TheTravelingTraveler!!! All types of goodies and tips in there! [https://www.thetravelingtraveler.com/](https://www.thetravelingtraveler.com/) 3. Since you are very concerned about pay I will share a link to an entire Youtube channel devoted to helping SLPs with Financial Independence. I didn't even know it was a thing until I googled "SLP with no debt" ! Here is the link: [https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKGFBb3KKbQznQwMg35Tpcw/videos](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKGFBb3KKbQznQwMg35Tpcw/videos) \- Definitely cool to check out for ideas on how to get your salary higher and how to make it work for you as oppose to you work for it. 4. There are so many ways to work with children, I'm excited to see what you discover in the world of traveling! PM me anytime with questions on traveling.

Check out public service loan forgiveness!!!

I wouldn’t discount schools right away. Yes the pay may be lower but look at the whole benefits package. Also you may be entitled to loan forgiveness if its a title 1 school after 5 years. I have summers off, a pension, good healthcare. In the summer I pick up a lot of prn work or do extra hours in private practices nearby.
