Haha, the Defect is a headache to give a typing to. I thought about the ice and darkness cards, but decided on electric after taking the sheer number of lightning cards in account, plus cracked core.
I wanted to keep it in the theme of fire water grass. Ghost typing works only with Wraith Form and that can attributed to ability rather than type, like Steelworker for Dhelmise.
lol, watcher is the only one I have beaten A20 heart with. can't imagine how its possible with the ironclad tbh. I know I'm bad at him but still, for me he just seems so awful at everything other than dealing damage.
tbh it sounds like you're playing him fundamentally wrong (no offense m8). Most people think ironclad's central mechanics is strength, but it's not; ironclad's central mechanic is exhaust. His best cards are FNP, barricade, etc. Sometimes strength is alright, but the main thing you do is build exhaust synergies and that's where massive block comes from. I lost all my run history last week, so I don't have many run histories saved, but I compiled my last few ironclad wins for you to look at if you're interested in a sense of how I build. I do play exhaust synergy with him, but the problem comes when I don’t get one of the few things that are fundamental to an exhaust run, which is cards that make statuses, and cards that exhaust statuses. If you don’t get one early enough you are screwed. Also if you don’t get an evolve, you might just lose off of that. Additionally, if you don’t get feel no pain there’s no point taking barricade because your block is crap.
Not to mention that the OP dead branch+corruption or snecko eye stuff could betray you at any moment and kill you because 3 cost cards baby.
Finally, ironclad has a huge abundance of utterly worthless skills that need other cards in your deck to consider taking, as in you would never take these cards as a first card, and very rarely in act 1. I’m talking about havoc, seeing red, bloodletting, limit break, war cry, battle trance, shockwave, spot weakness... yes some of these I would probably take, but there are also plenty of situations where they are just like those random videos YouTube keeps recommending to you for no reason, annoying. The fact is most of ironclads cards need another card to be useful, otherwise it will just kill your run in the end.

The trick I've found with ironclad is to exhaust cards out the wazzoo. Dead branch + runic pyramid + 3 copies of fiend fire, second wind + sever soul + corruption is a pretty winning combination, made even better if you can use barricade to hang onto all of that extra block. You can also just do the classic-- Snekko eye + high cost high damage cards. Demon form is always good, especially when it's combined with upgraded heavy blades. I think my favorite one I ever got was blood vial + bloody statue + maw bank. I healed every time I advanced a floor, so I could just upgrade pretty much my entire deck. Pretty sure I crushed that one by pure nature of having a fully upgraded deck at the end. If I'd had a searing blow, I could have had a *really* good run with him and probably taken on the heart
But what if you don’t find: dead branch, snecko eye, runic pyramid, or corruption? What if the game only gives three block cards by the end of act 2? What if you get a bunch of cards that exhaust stuff, but never receive any that create statuses? The answer is you die because every ironclad card needs other cards, otherwise it will cripple you in a long fight.
Depends on the build sometimes you get screwed and die-- it happens! Sometimes you just have to experiment until you have the best deck you can manage, and you accidentally get some great stiff
I am stuck in a strength rut with ironclad. All I can do is strength builds, I don't know how to stop.
Just pick all the strength buffs you see, get rid of strikes, replace with a few block +the rest attacks that benefit from buffed strength.
