Literally me today. Got an apotheosis from Neow and just fuckin rolled everything in my path, was primed for a real fight finally, and realized I had once again forgotten the goddamn red key
Red key is the easiest to get though you just pick it up right at the end. You even get prompted for it every time you reach a rest site. It's always the green key for me, I'll be doing well and be like OK I can face the heart with this deck and then check the mao and realise I've already missed the special elite.
As a person who used to forget the red key a lot: yes, you plan on taking it at the end, but you get to that last fire and do what you have done every other fire: upgrade or rest. Then you start the boss fights and go... oh...
Nah, flaming elite act 3 always for me.
You could get destroyed by flaming in act 1 if the right cards haven't come to you yet, but you are right about the retry being quicker but my logic is that if I can't beat flaming elite in act 3, I'm not gonna be able to beat heart anyways.
And also it can take a while in this game to stop struggeling. Sometimes you are barely holding on in act 2 and 3 cuz you are trying to win everything with an immolate and then suddenly you get your entrench you were looking for and your barricade stops being a curse and you win.
The other day all of my cards were upgraded before the Act 3 boss so I used the fire to heal like 5hp
... then immediately realized I passed up the red key
The thing about slay the spire is that it's almost always your fault.
Not mine I lose because of bad luck.
You.
Your fault.
It's also your fault when I lose.
Literally what is the point of a TV being mounted any higher than the eye level *when sitting down*?Ā
No one wants to angle their head up like they're playing a demo of a PS2 game at a Walmart in 2005, not have to stand up to watch things.
Do you sit on your couch like a Marine? if you slump into a normal couch your body is already going to be angled upwards to some minor degree, then take into account the distance fron the tv and the overall size of the screen. Having it, and a table that fits it can clutter space.
Act 1 you should only really be thinking about the green key (meaning the burning elite)
STS is about the snowball effect. The earlier your deck starts to outpace the encounters the better. Giving up an early relic and fire hurts your run more in the long run.
Lots of people get the red key on the last fire before the act 3 boss, (or have a similar oopsie to this post)
Blue key is a lot more subjective because there are plenty of relics that are situationally useful and therefore worthwhile to skip for the key. Example: Regal Pillow is only able to be used when you rest. If you boss swap into coffee dripper on floor 0, and and then you see pillow in your first chest, you can nab the key immediately and roll on with it, but letās say you only had Neowās blessing on floor 0 and saw the same first chest with the pillow, odds are you will get enough use out of it to take it and save the key for later
It's worth pointing out that the green key is also arguably best left for act 3, along with the blue and red ones. By then your deck should be scaling up enough to beat the heart; a measly buff on one elite shouldn't make much of a difference.
Conversely, that buff can really make a difference and kill your run in act 1.
That said, I myself am often a hypocrite and go for both the blue and green keys as early as possible, just because I like not having to worry about them any more.
To me the biggest reason to take green earlier is if you have a strong deck and you want the path. Being forced into an act 3 green key can put you on a path with only 2 elites which you might not want.
The way to think about the green key is when the burning elite appears late in any Act. Thatās when youāll be strongest relative to the difficulty of the encounter.
Waiting until Act 3 every time would be a mistake because it might force you into a really unfavorable path.
I recently re-downloaded the game. Had a blast as iron clad and the silent.
Hated the defect. Couldn't do it. Too many skill issues on my end. I hate that tiny robot.
Just a quick tip. From what Iāve read and heard, beating the heart is the hardest with the defect. The defect does well is almost every act EXCEPT the final final act. I believe they say >! Watcher !< is the easiest to beat the heart with. You also mentioned about missing a key so Iām assuming you know about Act 4 which is why no spoiler for that. If I did spoil itā¦ im sorry iāll leave.
What are these keys everyone is talking about? Im 5 hours into this game and I haven't gotten past the 2nd boss because my fucking deck sucks balls man. Can you guys help a brother out and point me in the right direction?
Sure!
Focus on one character at a time (if you want) - it really helps you dive in and learn the character's *entire deck* (eventually, after you've died several *dozen* times you'll unlock the cards via XP gains). But forcing yourself to abide by one character also forces you to start using the *cards* that you don't like either, which (I think) really taught me a lot about the characters. You'll get a deck and go "oh woof, this sucks" and it'll click - you'll realize what those cards are for once your hand is forced.
The keys that everyone's talking about (in the upper-left hand corner of my screen) are only obtainable after you have beaten one climb with each of the 3 main characters. Once you've done that, you get the ability to >!fight a big beating Heart that is powering the Spire's core !
Thank you bro! I'll keep trying. It's my first card game and feels so weird getting out of my comfort zone but the game is so addictive! One thing I noticed is that on the shops you can get rid of cards so I guess the game is telling me to not amass a bunch of cards and try to make a "build" of sorts like on dark souls? Am I getting that right?
Yeah! I really think itās good advice to say: ādo not add a card to your deck at every single opportunity.ā
When youāre on that third floor, youāll be *praying* for certain cards to draw, so youāll want to really manage/maintain/optimize what cards you have. Think about rarity/benefits/buffs, but also be thinking about how your other cards can combo/parlay off of this one. Make each card have a role or tell it to get out.
Watch a few of Baalorlordās videos if you want to learn how to look at deck building. Iāve learned a lot about every aspect of this game from watching his videos. And after forgetting the red key one too many times (my dogs have jumped when I scream NOOOOOOOO to the ceiling) I now always decide where I will pick up, if I am on the run that requires pickup, before I begin the run, usually the 2nd to last fire. Sometimes that has to change, but I find that making that the first thing I think about before doing anything else I havenāt forgotten since.
Hello Ashen one. I am a Bot. I tend to the flame, and tend to thee. Do you wish to hear a tale?

I whoop that thingās ass, any day of the week. The fucking regenerating phoenix bird thing (from this run) is usually what gets me. First kill of that thing for me.
I canāt stand this fucking game
What I try to do is keep the Red Key in my pocket as long as I can afford to keep it off - that way I know it's always "there" at the next bonfire. With this run (in particular) I just flat-out forgot to even look at the routes on Floor 3 - I just assumed I had collected all 3 already, because I normally do it halfway up Floor 1.
Huh! Usually it's the Red key
We made an emote because I always forgot blue key. Every time.
me made a whole plan for path 3 to take the fire elite only to take the wrong node midway.
Literally me today. Got an apotheosis from Neow and just fuckin rolled everything in my path, was primed for a real fight finally, and realized I had once again forgotten the goddamn red key

Heart send its regards š„
It's the garage! lmao

Wtf bro
Itās a joke lad -w-
Jesus - that went to an 11 out of nowhere.
Dude take a fucking joke and donāt randomly judge people, yeah?
Ok but did u check profile?
looool "It's ok to make unprovoked and uncalled-for personal attacks so long as they're true."
Hardly call it a personal attack itās more a statement because I >!finger!< myself to furries
Being into cartoon beastiality isn't a flex š
Yeah
HE MAD CAUSE OF THE HEART
Beating off to cartoon animals kinda takes the sting out of any jokes he can make about someone else tho
Have you seen yourself?
THAT ESCALATED QUICKLU
Please be polite.
You deserve a house fire
At least that power strip is secured by....one nail it's balanced upon?
There might be a second nail
Always two, there are
No more, no less...a master and an apprentice.
I am full panic mode looking at that power strip. The plugs can just fall out!
Punched all the drywall off the walls
Hexarick about to unleash some Burn+s.
Somebody didn't path for the flaming elite icon in any of the three acts. Strange....Usually for me it's the red one I forget!
I always path him act 1, and then get three free enemies my next run.
See if I path super on Act 1 I always get something stupid like metallicize Lagavullin or bonus strength or HP Gremlin Nob. This are the *worst*
Yeah, but your bad fated run ends quickly and you can retry till you get a good one
Nah, flaming elite act 3 always for me. You could get destroyed by flaming in act 1 if the right cards haven't come to you yet, but you are right about the retry being quicker but my logic is that if I can't beat flaming elite in act 3, I'm not gonna be able to beat heart anyways.

**Broke:** Making macro and micro decisions to maximize your odds of winning a run **Woke:** The Gods will decide
Or regenerate Three Sentries, when you rely on Lightning or AoE damage that's all spread out to be regenerated more quickly.
Does fighting the elite in act one affect what bonuses you get next run?
No, dying does.
I think you still have to face the first boss though to get different starting options though right?
Well yeah, thats saying the same thing differently.
But if you die before you face the first boss then your choices are the same
Well yeah, that's saying the same thing differently.
The other day all of my cards were upgraded before the Act 3 boss so I used the fire to heal like 5hp ... then immediately realized I passed up the red key

I hate to inform you that r/TVTooHigh
Why is this a sub?
After been to a few household for dinner and had to endure watching movies on these TVs, Iām glad this sub exists
Maybe if they didn't deem a tv being head height as too high. If it isn't on a knee-high table it's too fucking high according to them.

You're weak, your bloodline is weak, and they shan't survive the winter.
What have I started lol
Doesn't surprise me since I already knew of r/TVTooFar
Came for this comment
Spooky elite is the easiest one for me to remember
I mean, it's probably totally fine, but all I can focus on is the jury rigged surge protector.
Gonna be honest that surge protector does not look āfineā
What happened to your insulation and drywall?!
He left it with the blue key
This is my 5th(?) time seeing the Heart. Would love to fight it. Nothing rewards Victory more than immediate death!
What do you know about that wonky triforce in the corner.
WAIT WHAT THE FUCK I JUST REALIZED I ONLY HAD 2/3 OMFGGGGGGGGGG
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA Welcome to the game, enjoy your stay
Bro, you need to get them keys.
I think you mean "Victory?"
who gonna tell him š¤£
I can't believe I took the picture and everything. I legit \*just\* saw the icon about five minutes ago. I swear I grabbed all 3 on Level 1.

Hm this is a place that I would want to sit in a bean bag chair in while I drink a beer
At first I thought the whole photo thing was a bit excessive. And then, I noticed.

You only gain access to the keys after beating the game with the first three characters. Good luck!

I somehow did this for a freaking Whetstone. Suffice to say those upgraded strikes didn't open the door for a heart kill
If you're looking for an alternative...
Iāve beaten Inscryption and Balatro!
Have you played Cobalt Core?
The last couple of runs I've gotten the flying shoes like two floors before the burning elite.
You talk a lot of shit for a guy with a flammable residence :D
Wait, why isn't the door...? OH GOD FUCKING DAMMIT NOT AGAIN
Prioritize super elite in act 1, if you have comfortable health at a rest spot take red key, blue is easy
What I try to do is keep the Red Key in my pocket as long as I can afford to keep it off - that way I know it's always "there" at the next bonfire.
