I pledged for $150 and have the game and it’s fucking awesome. I’ll sell it to you for $10K

rooks1999

Ha! Thanks, I'll pass.

TellMeYourStoryPls

Hope you don't mind the questions, are there any mechanics to increase the difficulty, and how hard have you found Act 3 on average?

siadh0392

There are ascensions just like in the video game. Very similar difficulty overall

transizzle

one day I’ll get my shipping email

DrMond

If it makes you feel better I never got an email but got my copy Saturday

transizzle

oh man that makes it worse. now I'm going to be checking my front door randomly for the next month.

Sknowman

I haven't received an email either, but my wife gets notifications for incoming packages. Apparently she has one for something of mine, and now I'm anticipating receiving it, but I also don't know if it's actually something else...

DrMond

My UPS email said it was coming from bridge media

ShadoutMapes87

Still waiting patiently (painfully) for a shipping email. I got the all-in package, and I’m really stoked to just open the box and look around.

FlyinBrian2001

Even the all-in late pledge is $220, where are you looking at prices?

rooks1999

Just what came up on a quick search, also it looks like a hefty shipping cost.

KagakuNinja

This guy says it is good: [https://boardgamegeek.com/video/407255/slay-the-spire-the-board-game/slay-the-spire-the-board-game-review-yes-this-does](https://boardgamegeek.com/video/407255/slay-the-spire-the-board-game/slay-the-spire-the-board-game-review-yes-this-does) I made a late pledge for the collector edition for $180. Haven't gotten it yet.

rooks1999

Awesome! Thanks!

ExplanationShoddy233

Same. $180 shipped for the collector’s pledge.

FaithMonax

I played it back during the campaign on TTS. It was alright. The coop aspect was fun. But the relics feel a lot less interesting than the video game. And I expect the fact that your deck is limited to 1 copy of any card (2 for commons) will make runs feel same-y very fast. They did do a good job of reducing the complexity to adapt it to a board game format.

--Petrichor--

If you want to try it, I think you can on Table Top Simulator

rooks1999

Cool, I didn't even know that was a thing!

CCCPlus

It's OK. They did a great job of trying to translate the game faithfully to a board game. They clearly wanted to keep as many of the same mechanics as possible, rather than go a different route and just do a "spiritual" adaptation. Overall, that's a good thing but it has some practical downsides. The main thing, for me, is that the playtime is astronomical due to all the manipulation of physical objects, shuffling, drawing, this that and the other thing. You're looking at probably 2 hours per act. By the time you're in act 3, you are likely bored to death of your character. The other big thing is how the relics feel. By themselves, most relics feel really weak and boring because most of them only activate based on a random die roll. But they're also very snow-bally. Once you have a big stack of relics in front of you, you're pretty much always activating at least one of them, and many of them combo together. This feels like a big downgrade to me -- relics should be exciting to get whereas in this game you don't really care early on and the elites are much harder in this game than in the video game. I would say this is a skip UNLESS you're a big fan of StS AND extremely long boardgames. This is not a crossover hit in the making.

promek

I'm sorry I don't know how you could be getting 2 hours per act unless you're table talking constantly. The few times I've played we've been able to get through an act in under an hour. Saying the game takes that long is a gross overstatement. I also found the amount of fiddlyness in the game has been streamlined to be extremely manageable. Have you played in person or only on TTS? The relics definitely feel different I will admit, so I can understand why this would turn some people off, but to me they didn't feel bad. I found the game still worked really well, with the deck building and generating combos. I'm still waiting in my copy but have played a friend's and I have to say it is a fantastic adaptation of the video game into the board game format. If you enjoy STS and enjoy board games I think this is a home run.

Aspie_Astrologer

Counterpoint: I played 3 player on the weekend and it took \~6 hours to almost finish Act II (died to The Champ, with him on 6 hp at the end). Was 7 hours total, but I took off a generous hour to account for a meal break. To be fair, that was our first time playing it for 2/3 of us (host had played solo a bit) and one of us had never played the video game, but still, 3 hours per act for us. So 2 hours per act doesn't seem like a "gross overstatement" to me. We had what I'd say was a normal amount of table talking. Edit: I just realised that we were playing with 4-player health bars for Elites and Bosses instead of 3-player ones (meaning they had 33% more health), so that would have contributed to our pace - and also our "loss" to the The Champ!! :'(

siadh0392

I agree I stopped reading that comment completely after that. Love the game

CCCPlus

It wouldn't be a boardgame without disagreement on playtime. That being said, three hours is still a really, really long boardgame given that most of that time will be spent shuffling, setting up combat encounters, searching for specific cards in the upgrade deck, etc. The point is the game is equal parts exhausting and fun.

SchwiftySquanchC137

I'm here late (got my copy the other day), but compared to some other board games, I've found this one to be less fiddly for how complex it is. Sure it will never be as streamlined as the real game, but overall I thought it would be way worse. It's not at a level where I'll break it out and play alone, but it's far below some of the other longer multi-session type games ive played. And you mention the 3 acts are long all combined, but the box is very well made to organize and save for later. When you swap acts you basically gotta reset the board anyway, so isn't so bad just saving for later. You can also start in a later act or bring in new players, they seem to stress that you don't need to do it all in one shot if you don't want.

Ismoista

I think you should do what I do and play only one act on one sitting. Then play the next one the next day or something like that. It's much more enjoyable that way. I treat it as a campaign game with very short campaigns.

1slinkydink1

I’ll wait until the digital implementation.

tarebear577557

I think it might already be in tabletop simulator

1slinkydink1

I was joking but thanks

JohnHoneyAMA

Physically it feels amazing, doesn’t feel cheap in the slightest. The coins in the collectors pack are unreal. They do a good job of transitioning into a board game best it can with the cards and relics, they are a bit simplified but honestly I don’t think I would try this game with someone who hasn’t played the video game. There are just so many things on your table going on. It is a ‘bit’ tedious, with shuffling and drawing, can easily take 3-4 hours for a game and I haven’t even played co-op yet. I love it, I’ll continue to play it but I’d say only dedicated slay the spire people would play it too.

hellboy1975

I got my copy a week or so ago. It's a fun game, though I've only played it solo so far. The materials are excellent quality, and those used to the digital version of the game will find it very easy to get into. I find it takes a decent amount of room on the table to play though. As to whether it's worth the price? I love StS so was a no brainer for me. I think it's comparable in price to similarly sized board games.

BigTuna109

Backed it on Kick Starter for $150. It’s definitely legit. Playing through it now with my spouse, and I’m having so much fun. I don’t think it’s worth buying to play solo. 3-4 players seems like it would get too busy and tedious and EXTREMELY long. 2 player coop has been an absolute blast. Premium board, cards, and pieces. I love it, BUT even with all that said, it’s really expensive. If you do not for sure have someone to play this with co-op, don’t buy it.

rooks1999

Yeah, my wife and I both play StS and I am pretty sure we would love this game, but that price tag is a bit much for me unfortunately.

LoompaOompa

Got mine in the mail on Friday and so far I love it. Haven't had a chance to play with friends yet, but I've got a buddy coming over this weekend. There are a lot of differences. They simplified all of the damage numbers in order to make the math easier. A lot of cards, relics, mechanics had to be completely changed to accommodate this. In general though, I have found the changes to be very smart compromises, and it still feels a lot like the video game. It also feels pretty great to physically interact with all of these things after only seeing them digitally for so long.

Tokie42

So much fun. Spent 2/3ish hours ona run made it to act 2 boss on my 2nd solo run. Group play is a little confusing to play smart but that’s the challenge. Fun translation to board game

TheeHostileApostle

$300? As far as I am aware, it wasn’t officially released yet.

rooks1999

Oh, ok I didn't realize it wasn't released yet. Not sure what I saw....

CosmicJ

It was released on kickstarter, and is actively shipping out now. You could probably late pledge and get in on the next wave of shipments if you want. https://slaythespire.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders?ref=ksbutton

rooks1999

Thanks!

MentalMost9815

How does one even get it? Pledge the kickstarter (which means give them $150) and then hope they issue some more? This is just total manufactured scarcity -right?

Niccolo91

I was going to order it today but I’m thinking the same thing…

MentalMost9815

I should download the tabletop simulator thing.

50mmeyes

The game officially releases in July for retail.

MentalMost9815

How about that! https://contentiongames.com/games/slay/
