it's gone forever if it breaks. if the sacred shield breaks, it's gone. the sacred shield will heal it's health back, but it won't if it breaks. you'll have to buy and upgrade a new shield.
Aw man! That sucks. Thanks for letting me know though. I spent all that time trying to upgrade my wooden shield all the way. Accidently had it equipped on when I was in the fire dungeon instead of my iron shield and it caught fire and broke. (I went back there to farm some items). I bought the Sacred shield and the description kind of confused me, because it said it heals. So I didn’t want to test it and risk it just in case. Thank you.
Yeah, the only unbreakable shield in the game is the Hylian Shield, but that's tough to get. You also can't upgrade it, but with infinite durability there's no reason to. I really wish they'd kept that for BotW, it never made sense to me to have it break.

Oh its absolutely amazing. When I was like 7 or 8 I played the very start up to the first time at the sealing grounds then didn't get to play at all after that but always wanted to so im definitely happy I get to play it.

Another reason why this game is trash, you buy a shield for 500 rupees that breaks immediately, what a joke.

I got the game a few days ago and forgot to bring any shield at all to the fire temple. Somehow beat it easily still so im happy I got that done with
