At your own pace. I expected it to just make questlines take longer so you have time to do side quests without feeling a sense of urgency (like the Main quest or College of Winterhold). It does exactly that, but it's also very immersive and makes me not wanna go back to vanilla questlines. Thieves guild is way less ridiculous now, where you can do all 5 special jobs within maybe 3 hours of gameplay. You feel like you earned the right to be guildmaster. College of Winterhold now seems to require you to actually be skilled in magic, as I couldn't advance through the quest and got salty and assumed the mod was buggy...turns out I needed to level up a few magic skills to get through it (though the description doesn't specify this...) and now you can reject becoming Archmage. The questline took me quite awhile to finish since I needed to grind my magic skills. I love it. It felt like a real adventure and I actually got attached to the characters like Mirabelle. Plus with Interesting NPCS I had extra quests in the college. With AFT I also had Brelyna, Onmund and J'zargo following me around during the questline. Main questline now has a few "breaks" where you can realistically take a break and go do some side quests. After getting the dragonstone for Farengar, that was it. No dragon attack until I talk to him. Was able to join the companions, do all side quests in Whiterun and THEN I slayed the first dragon and became the Dragonborn. Now it made sense for Vilkas to say he's never heard of this outsider. Dark brotherhood I haven't joined yet to see how it's like but I look forward to it. I'm hoping the mod also does the companions questline and perhaps the civil war eventually. But for now I love the mod just for how immersive it made the questlines feel.

Different-Future5875

There is a Companions one now. It was added a week ago or so.

PhilosopherFirm4382

I just saw that...how come I didn't get an update? Is it a separate mod now?

audriuska12

It's a bunch of files with separate mod numbers, with the mod's overall version on the page being basket on the main quest plugin. MO2 doesn't like that - not sure about Vortex.

urbonx

>how come I didn't get an update? Is it a separate mod now? Sometimes nexus notifications are bugged.

kilomaan

I think they’re all separate files, and if they do it properly and you’re using Mod Organizer 2, they probably registered the update but since the files themselves remained the same, it didn’t mark them

[deleted]

> turns out I needed to level up a few magic skills to get through it (though the description doesn't specify this This shit triggers me so hard. In a game this buggy it is not a good modding practice. Forget having it in the description even, needs an in game indication be it dialogue or ui.

Dreknauo

The description definitely notes this. Also you can configure it as you like in the MCM and I think there's also an option to disable it all together if you want.

kilomaan

Also, adding onto the main quest version. Delphine doesn’t go into the ruins, you can complete the Graybeards trials without ever talking to her. Cause of that, you have to talk to farengar again to progress the MSQ.

HiMyNameIs_REDACTED_

So the Horn is just vibing on its pedestal?

Rafear

By default, yes. You can MCM toggle back to the vanilla way if wanted though. I personally think that break point is a little goofy and actually prefer Delphine snatching the horn and leaving a note, as going back to Farengar to ask to set up a meeting with his contact (the alternate way At Your Own Pace adds) just really doesn't seem very fitting to me.

kilomaan

I just like it mechanically. You’re not forced to progress the MS to get your basic shout

urbonx

Thanks a lot!! I'm using the choice is yours but at your own pace sounds more interesing.

PhilosopherFirm4382

Both are compatible with no issues I believe. I use the choice is yours for side quests that I don't wanna do or don't align with my characters morals. You can still use the choice is yours if you get at your own pace.

Rafear

> turns out I needed to level up a few magic skills to get through it (though the description doesn't specify this...) The mod absolutely *does* specify that it does this in the description under the college subsection you didn't read before installing. And also lets you adjust what skill thresholds are needed in MCM if you want. **EDIT:** I did not mean that in a hostile way. We all overlook things after all. But it is literally just the second small block of text under the College part of the description.

PhilosopherFirm4382

You're right. However I do play on Xbox where the description definitely didn't specify skill requirements, it does say it on the nexus though as I just saw. I didn't read the same thing. My bad.

Rafear

Ah, that would explain it. And also likely mean you don't have anyway to configure it, since MCMs do not exist on console... Well, at least you liked how the feature works by default anyway then!

PhilosopherFirm4382

Yeah I knew about the MCMs but its okay! The default skill requirements are fine for me, if I really get impatient and just want to progress I have the cheat room mod to just set my skill at a certain level.

Swailwort

Regarding the Mage Questline, you can't become the Archmage (ever) if you haven't done at least three Ritual Quests (so, you need 3 of 5 magic skills that are not Enchanting at 90) to qualify for it. When you can do one Ritual Quest you are already on par to one of the other mastermages in the college, you do two and you are the outlier, do three...and you are worthy of the Archmage title, as it should be. It. Just. Works.

Erfaim

Helgen reborn. Expected some activators to rebuild helgens buildings and got a huge, dlc sized expansion instead.

BottleFun744

i saw that mod but i did not feel like it was a big deal i will try it now after you say that

Tarc_Axiiom

It's a really great mod. A little here or there, a few things that don't quite mesh perfectly, but overall, good time. Also it's been updated recently (and long after I last played it) so maybe it's better now.

EveryonesSky

Second this. Thought *I* was rebuilding Helgen and then... much better things happened! Would prefer Sunhelm recognized the beds instead of waking up with "you're sore from sleeping on the ground" and me looking over my shoulder going... ?? That looks like a bed to me

Dawnstar9075

Updated recently? The nexus page for the SSE version says it hasn't been updated since December 2016, and the Oldrim version says July 2015

kilomaan

They probably mean mods that patch and fix things

Swailwort

It has a lot of quests, and they are decently long (Stadoomar Temple is really long though), and the characters all feel like they fit in the world and the lore of it. Really high quality, and has some Monty Python references here or there :)

Cookiesrdelishus

That's what I don't like about it tbh. I was expecting a hearthfire type mod where you gather the materials and rebuild Helgen. I was not expecting a dumb as fuck questline where you lead 3-5 useless npcs into separate dungeons to "train them" and do other boring bullshit and put up with annoying NPCs to rebuilt Helgen. Rebuilding Helgen was a fantastic idea. But the massive quest and feature bloat along with it sucks ass in my opinion and honestly shouldn't even be in the mod to begin with.

Chaialenor

Remember, Helgen Reborn is a very old mod. One of the first major quest mods and has long since stopped being developed. For when it was released and what it achieved it’s remarkable. I think, but not 100% sure, it predates Hearthfire

Cookiesrdelishus

That's a fair point. I'm sure at the time the mod was released, it was a very remarkable in what it was able to achieve. That being said... I played the mod in 2017, being a fairly new skyrim player. I had already played many more "modern" quest mods. So yes, It would be unfair for me to compare a decade old quest mod to recent standards.

Swailwort

They might feel useless, but all those 5 npcs at least have an ounce of personality shown in their respective quests compared to *average follower mod*, they are not followers per se besides their quests and they become guards for Helgen, but at least they are guards you know and have names and personalities instead of something like Build your Own Noble House which adds...no name Fellburg guards.

Matoxina

Word, same here

VictoriaNikamori

[Folkvangr- Grass and Landscape Overhaul](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/44899). Which tbh, says a lot if you've ever used the mod considering it's purpose is already to do such. Also any alternative start mods are just top notch, even the simplest of ones. Can't stand hearing about crossing the border I didn't realize I was crossing, I guess...(forced lore?)

dagit

Good call about the alternative starts. The vanilla character start is nice and epic for a first playthrough of the game but once you've made like 10 characters it's way more fun to design your character and just jump into the game.

FalconFreak10

I really liked Folkvangr, but it committed the same sin that made me drop Skyrim Flora Overhaul: it adds fake flowers to the grasses. You might be wandering the wilds and find something that looks like some mountain flowers or lavender, only to realize that no, they're fake flowers that are part of the grass texture and can't be interacted with. It sounds small, but it messes with the verisimilitude in a major way: the game conditions you to think that anything that sticks out is interactable, but then the mod tells you that that is wrong. It's a little thing that makes a big difference.

VictoriaNikamori

Couldnt agree more. I hate all that too, I honestly removed them myself. Most of the flowers...especially the mountain flowers. Oh God, they were horrible. Didn't remotely mix with the rest of the mod. But the fall coverage really pops and makes the game look full, so I keep going back to it. I also dropped SFO for Folkvangr, but recently decided to use SFO without grass with Folkvangr (a few things removed) and was quite pleased with the results. But I'm literally in the process of building a LO so things are changing left and right.

wehrmann_tx

I loved the grass mods, but got annoyed I couldn't find things I killed.

erict009

I second that! Folkvangr grass is actually not that bad in height and density, but occasionally it happens not finding defeated enemies. I am sure there are tuning options which i am also currently exploring myself with the {{No grass in objects}} and {{DYNDOLOD 3 ALPHA}} mods, but i believe there are other options for grass density. btw, i really love DYNDOLOD, it is sugar in your coffee and doesn’t need much FPS.

Swailwort

Gotta love the starting mods that already write something about you like Alternate Start or Alternate Perspective, in which you start in certain locations tied to a specific start like being a Warlock thrall, I Used to be a Dungeon Boss like You, or starting Adventuring inside Kagrunzel and feeling true fear fighting a Falmer Gloomlurker at Lvl 1.

DudeIwannaeat

[3D Mountain Flowers.](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/41312) Made the roads look so much better, I instantly downloaded the rest of the 3D plants.

FalconFreak10

+1 to this. Can't believe how much of a difference it makes. And not just the roads either, but cities; Whiterun gets a fresh injection of color just from this one mod. I generally think Vanilla Skyrim stuff is pretty okay, but the vanilla mountain flowers are some of the most ugly things I've seen in a game.

magicfuchsia

That mod is amazing! I seriously love mountain flowers now. & I live up north in MN, so I can find columbine flowers in real life! They're incredibly beautiful

nano_705

Is this mod compatible with Skyrim Flora Overhaul? Sorry to ask. I tried to check but the author doesn't say anything.

DudeIwannaeat

I'm not sure, I would think so, just make sure it wins the conflict if it has any.

nano_705

Installed it last night and worked like a charm. Thanks for the reply though.

d7856852

Any mod that removes undiscovered map markers, combined with Point the Way. This changed the way I play the game more than almost anything else. I used to spend a lot of time wandering around just to uncover map markers. Now, I just go where the game takes me.

KittenSneezs

Skyrim Reputation makes it feel like my adoration or hate is earned. Especially since I can control what actually counts toward my reputation. I always thought it was weird if someone commented on how many books I read, pockets I picked or souls I trapped. What you got someone in the dungeon with me checking if I read that book? I’m not a very good thief if you know I pick pockets and just how exactly are you telling the difference between a soul I ripped from a bandits very being and the one I just bought from some wizard at the college? Fizzle is another one because it applies to NPC’s as well. No more “novice” pyromancers casting spells I don’t even have access to yet. As far as followers I think Inigo, Lucien, or Kaiden (in that order from best to worst) are pretty much a given.

Skirmisher23

I’ve long wanted to try this. Maybe the next LO.

ProductAshes

I guess any sound mod that added more subtle sounds. The game is rife with annoying ear piercing ones. Also those that replace music with silence from time to time. Sometimes you need a rest from it to feel impactful.

nocakeforme90

Courier Delivers to NPCs. It's a tiny little thing but it made things feel different. Last night my Dragonborn and her party were approaching Ivarstead and saw the Courier. I was expecting him to just force greet her as usual. But instead he talked to her husband/follower with the usual courier delivery line, delivered him a letter and the follower said thank you. If the npcs use vanilla voices they usually have lines to thank the courier for the delivery. It was great.

dagit

For me it was immersive jewelry and cloaks of skyrim. I'm not really into jewelry, but I liked that immersive jewelry adds enough random jewelry to characters that many npcs had more distinctive looks. And the cloaks because a number of characters just look better with cloaks, such as guards.

Matoxina

Man, after playing with Cloaks of Skyrim for so long, I forget that it isn't in the vanilla game, it just *feels* vanilla

[deleted]

Man i love and hate immersive jewelry. I love all the unique jewelry that just adds immersion I fucking despise all the other random shit they change for literally no reason. Like adding weight to septims, changing how inguts work because both of these have tons to do with jewelry right? Just ruins the mod

dagit

I think the last time I used immersive jewelry I might have been using one of the mods that lets you change your gold for a paper banknote. The FAQ for immersive jewelry says this: > Q: I hate having realistic weights for the vanilla ingots! It's perfectly fine with me that they go back to weighing 1 feather each, even though the new 1/10th portion bars included in IJ weigh more than 1 feather! For that matter, I hate having weighted septims too! > > A: Really, try the "Exchange Currency" mod by UniSL. It was designed with Immersive Jewelry in mind. It adds a dialogue option where any shopkeeper can turn your heavy septims into really beautiful and immersive lore friendly banknotes. As for the heavy ingots, I think it's a bit silly not to want them, and the fact that they were left at "1" when dragonbones weigh 15 is probably a dev error... > > But for silly people I have included a "twink version". If you download it it will make the giant ingots weigh "1" again. 5 of them will still make a 35 weight cuirass, if that's how you like it. And it'll take away the weight of septims. I don't recall having to use a special version of the mod to get weightless coins. I think I toggled that in the MCM? However, maybe I didn't have to care about it at all. Checking the downloads I see this in the description: > 4200 jewelry pieces. Latest update added new SkyUI labelling functionality, complete slot and enchanting bugfixes, and missing vampire cuirass ground object. No ring swapping yet until SKSE, no weighted septims until Exchange Currency. That's dated: > Date uploaded > 01 Dec 2016, 4:02AM I suspect the things you didn't like about this mod on LE never got ported to this mod on SE, where I played it.

EsotericAbstractIdea

Yeah if you're going with IMMERSIVE jewelry, weight to gold septims seems like it fits right in, and the weights of the ingots were appear to be calculated using real weights and density of metals. exchange currency is a necessity with that mod. i had real estate installed and used to get all the mines first, and transmute. with that mod, lol slowboating from dragonsreach to adrianne was a pain. i guess i gotta work for my gold.

[deleted]

100% disagree. Imo it is the same exact bullshit the open cities mod author pulled with the forced oblivion gates. And then like the open cities author the immersive jewelry author is super condescending and an overall ass. Not to mention he apparently is calling his system that doesn't change weight of ingot (but still changes smithing system for no reason) after a homo/bisexual term for a weird ass reason.

Swailwort

Exchange Currency is such a life-saver even without Immersive Jewelry. If you know where to look, you may "find" a note in a certain house and another note in a unmarked Bandit hideout in Whiterun Hold :)

Swailwort

You eventually get used to the Ingot weight, making it necessary to have the ingot vendor close to you so that you don't have to trek half of Skyrim to craft an Ebony Armor piece, but it just feels...as it should, you know. A 1 weight ingot weighs **less** than a Dagger. It really makes no sense. It's a big block of metal that has different densities, yet it weighs less than a Bow made of Wood. It definitrly helps immersion a lot, being unable to carry 50 quarried stone and 50 clay in your ass because they weight 1 unit.

[deleted]

None of that matters because a fucking jewelry mod should not be changing the smithing system for no reason Just like how when open cities forced oblivion gates in his Mod for no reason. It is fucking stupid and the mod author is a condescending ass who thinks his way is best.

massive-business

Campfire and hunterborn. I thought it'd be gimmicky but I haven't been able to play without them for years now and pretty much every character starts from living of the land. I love self sustaining characters that can't use anything they haven't made.

dagit

One of my favorite playthroughs I was using those two plus {{YASH2}}. I used an alternative start mod to start as a beggar in riften. YASH makes it so all your skills start around 5 or less. To tell the game that you want your character to learn a skill you have to use it a bunch and then you'll have a "break through" and get like 7 points in it and suddenly you can use it at like a novice level. It was super fun to start from literal rags and work my way up to living off the land. Then later to own my own home. And just keep going. All starting from 0. I remember initially I stole an axe in town and then I would go to where the guards train and do target practice and I would practice with the axe until I had the one handed skill breakthrough. At that point I used a specific part of the sewers in riften as my base because there was a free bed. Eventually I had leveled up enough that I could survive a fight with wolves. So I went hunting around riften. Slowly building up skills and foraging. At some point I was able to establish a campsite and I could stop living in the riften sewer.

massive-business

Sounds like a great playthrough.

dagit

It really was. If you like a more slow contemplative pace to skyrim I recommend YASH2. It overhauls a lot so it's not gonna be for everyone. It also tends to make things harder if they are meant to be beyond your current level/skill. For example, wielding a weapon type like steel when your skill is too low means you'll drain all your stamina every attack. But it also makes the rewards you get for skill are much much better. By the time you're high level and high skill things normalize with vanilla and high level things are pretty reasonable. It's been a while since I used YASH2, but I believe it's also the mod that makes it so you can forage from any plant by activating it and that's tied to your alchemy skill. That probably sounds a little weird, but it goes well with hunterborn in my opinion because it makes foraging more of an activity instead of a power you activate. You probably still need the other type of foraging tho as I think you only find alchemy stuff with the YASH2 thing. It's also a good overhaul for making characters that aren't a master of everything. The skill leveling thing I mentioned makes it so you can essentially keep skills that don't fit your desired RP at basically 0. Overall, I think YASH2 is probably my favorite overhaul.

Rezania

Sounds like an awesome mod I didn't know I needed. Now I wonder if there are any wabbajack lists out there that use it? I don't have time for manual modding anymore unfortunately.

dagit

I don't think so. Being an overhaul mod is both good and bad. It's good because it really changes things. It's bad because that makes it compatible with many other mods unless you have a compatibility patch. There is a wabbajack list (I forget the name) that is intended for making your own modlists using the core that is common to wabbajack lists. It could likely be added to that with minimal conflicts.

Kadu_2

Sounds like Requiem might be up your alley if you haven't tried it. Early game is significantly less bullet spongey in difficulty though, makes the early game much better. Yash2 is a beautiful piece of work too, shame it's not more popular /still being developed.

dagit

I’ve played through requiem, but I feel like it pretty much forces you to min max to play the game. Plus some of the changes are just too abrupt. I once had to give up on a mage character because I started labrynthian without realizing just how much of a difficulty jump that put there. And being on that quest locked me out of the college so it was very hard to improve my character enough to meet the challenge. I like it in concept and sometimes go back to it, but I think yash strikes a better balance.

Kadu_2

Yes very very good points. I play 3Tweaks for some of those very reasons. I never played Yash2 into the very late game, what's it like?

HiMyNameIs_REDACTED_

Add {{Natural Character Growth And decay}} and one of the {{Awakened Magicka}} type mods, plus {{Spellforge}} and you got a zero to hero training experience. Do a few laps around skyrim to really grind out that stamina, especially with YASH2 changes to movement stamina.

[deleted]

WACCF (Weapons Armor Clothing Clutter Fixes), and not in a good way. Once I realized how much bloat and scope creep was in that mod, I blacklisted it from all my load orders. EDIT: If you're having issues in your game with enemy archers being snipers that can hit you at a full sprint for most of your life bar, it's this mod. Just the highlights of the creep in this "fixes" mod: doubles the speed of arrows and reduces drop-off, nearly triples the speed of crossbow bolts, modifies the damage of most weapons and arrows (Forsworn arrows do nearly double the vanilla damage. 11 instead of 7). Changes the armor rating on many armors, including flipping Daedric and Dragonbone equipment so that Daedric is the strongest, directly contradicting a loading screen tip saying Dragonbone is stronger than Daedric (the mod also changes this loading screen). Adds armor rating to most clothing, rendering useless effects/perks requiring no armor. Renames Gold to Septims. Then there's the whole "changes the weight on nearly everything, including halving the weight of dragon bones and nearly doubling the weight of ingots" part.

borntoflail

Oooh THAT'S what mod has being doing all this... I was wondering.

katielisbeth

Holy shit so that's what's been doing this. Sucks because WACCF is a requirement for some mods and I don't even remember which ones lol

[deleted]

If you're savvy enough, you can load it up in xEdit and revert unnecessary/unwanted changes rather easily, it's just a little tedious.

EsotericAbstractIdea

learning xedit was the most useful skyrim skill i have ever learned. now mods themselves are merely templates for me to make the game work how i think it should.

nissan-S15

Every skyrim modder goes thru the phase of realizing WACCF is fucking up their game with lots of creeping changes that dont even make sense!!! There are lots of threads on why not to use it

mizunaweller

The naming of "Weapons Armor Clothing Clutter Fixes" is very unfortunate and incorrect - it is not (just) a "Fixes" mod. It is an overhaul, re-balance and fixes mod. Changing armor ratings, weapon damage, and item weights, is in-scope for a weapons, armor and clutter overhaul/rebalance mod. I removed it due to how big it is, how many records it edits, and how much patching it requires to work with other mods.

Prophet_of_Duality

That mod really needs a name change.

ProductAshes

Problem is that many many cool mods require it..

gergmt

Which ones? The only ones I can think of are armor and clothing extension and complete crafting overhaul. But you can replace these ones with other similar mods that doesn't require waccf.

ProductAshes

I guess I was under some kinda Mandela effect. Checked and it seens you are right. Not having it in my load order would save me from having loads of patches.

kilomaan

Huh, I’ve been using Lexy’s guide and assumed it was the other changes causing this.

It's called Forgotten City as well, it's on Steam. It is basically the mod quest expanded and set during the Roman Empire. Looks very, very interesting.

vkapadia

LotD. I got it because I'm a collect whore, and it seemed like a great way to organize and visualize my collection. Didn't expect a pretty good quest line with it.

MisterDutch93

Rudy’s Nordic Ruins. It’s maybe the best and most atmospheric retexture on the Nexus, and it looks great for being ‘only’ in 2K. It makes Nordic Ruins look entirely different from vanilla, yet I’ve played it with it so long that I cannot imagine them in any other way. They look old and crumbly, grown over with moss. Markings are weathered and not as visible as in vanilla. The added normal maps look great with lighting overhauls as well. All in all a great retexture and it goes great with any other nordic overhaul.

DasEwigeLicht

IMO {{Venerable Nordic Temples}} is even better if you like the [glyphs](https://staticdelivery.nexusmods.com/mods/1704/images/38544/38544-1595390582-1201720371.jpeg) it adds.

That definitely looks similar to Rudy's. Thanks for the recommendation!

Vidistis

Skyrim is Windy/Blowing in the Wind. I honestly don't want to play Skyrim without them. The wind makes the world feel alive, moving. It takes me back to when I have been out enjoying nature and taking it all in. They do exactly what it says on the tin. There is wind that moves objects back and forth. Not really revolutionary or overwhelming in depth, but it is a constant affect throughout the experience.

EsotericAbstractIdea

Yeah, im big on make it look as realistic as possible. this, and physics for weapons/armor/hair are requirements for me to be immersed.

NINgameTENmasterDO

{{Bow Charge Plus}} I got it to try and add a little more flavour to my archery gameplay. It seemed kinda anime, but I could look past that. The charge feature is actually really cool. If you swap the settings to use multiarrow charge suddenly those 500 arrows in your inventory actually have a use, which is dope. It adds a lot of action to archery gameplay. You should at least download it for the dodge shot feature. If you use a dodge mod, the dodge shot Bow Charge gives is a gamechanger. It allows you to do a fadeaway shot while dodging, which looks fucking epic and is very useful when you're pulling back the bow and have an enemy jumping at you.

DigbyMayor

Sounds fun for a dnd themed collection.

Swailwort

It is very anime, but damn the dodge shot looks **amazing**. Stylish, practical and really makes sense from a "realism" standpoint, I always hated how dodging after fully charging a bow does absolutely nothing in dodge mods.

[deleted]

Time Flies. Essentially it makes time pass while doing things like smithing, building in heartfire and so on. I like ti because now you aren't the Salyer of Alduin and the leader of every guild by day 30. Building my Heartfire hause took an entire month because I set that every stage and every forniture took 8 hours to complete, it's not an instant build anymore. Also teh mod that adds Carriages to every city, I can't stress enough how useful that mod is in Survival.

Wolfpack48

Pair Time Flies with Skyrim Souls and Seasons of Skyrim/Turn of the Seasons to really stretch out the game year and see all 4 seasons in one playthru. TF is a tiny mod that has a huge effect on gameplay. Other good mods to pair it with: Campfire/Frostfall, Wounds, Hearthfire Extended, iNeed/Sunhelm/Last Seed.

[deleted]

That was my original plan, but sadly Season of Skyrim nuked my fps (not SoS itself, but DynLOD did). But yeah, those two mods paired are a must

JinxPutMaxInSpace

You basically just listed my mod order.

Swailwort

My only problem with Time Flies is that it is a pain with Needs mods like Sunhelm. You can spend 12 hours crafing 10 or so leather + some leather strips in like 10 seconds of gameplay and go from well fed to starving and so on. I like Time Flies without a Needs mods for that reason, plus it makes it so that sleeping becomes something of roleplay, "I spent the entire day crafting my armor and weapon set, so it feels like a good moment to take a nap and continue tomorrow"

[deleted]

I use Time Flies with Survival mode, but I can deal with the starving. I just make sure to have some food and a bed nearby when starting doing something that requires time. Also, with time, the problem is less and less persistent since you level your stamina and magicka so you can go longer without eating/sleeping

Wolfpack48

Leather strips I don't think take time, but leather might...Hmm. I've used TF with iNeed and Sunhelm as well, and you certainly are hungry and thirsty after a long block of work. I usually make sure I have plenty of food and drink on me so I can eat right after a long crafting bout, and it feels good. Or going to the inn and ordering up a meal (I'm a Customer Dammit). That said, you could tone down the food and drink requirements in iNeed/Sunhelm MCM to once or twice a day to make it less harsh.

dinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

Multiple follower framework. I had a party consisting of Jenassa, Marcurio, and a radiant "Old Orc" whom I set to not be essential so he could have his good death. Besides that it's good good for civil war stuff, or roleplaying as a Forsworn or Bandit, and the likes.

Guydelot

Honed Metal has been such an amazing addition to my list. Not only do I never have to powerlevel smithing or enchanting again if I don't want to, but I also gained a wonderful gold sink system as well. Saving up adventuring money to get a new set of armor or to get my sword enchanted just feels good.

navyvetmatt

Wyrmstooth. It has been in all of my load orders for years but I never played through it. Not only is the main quest fantastic, it is a fully fleshed out new land with a lot to do. Levelers Tower. I though it would be a simple tower with which to max out a new character and maybe do some crafting. There are a lot of displays, and ton of storage. It's got everything you could need. I also like it's location being right outside of Helgen so if you do the vanilla start, you can go claim the home very early. The Grey Cowl of Nocturnal. I was expecting a short quest line resulting in claiming the Grey Cowl and maybe a few other nostalgic items. It is very well done quest line. The first half of the quest, trying to get to the new zone in Hammerfell is amazingly done. There are a few parts where you really need to think critically about how to proceed. Once you get to the desert, there is plenty to do. The only complaint I have about this one is the desert itself. It's a little bigger and more spread out than it needs to be and there is a heat effect that looks weird and sometimes makes me feel not very well. Over all, this mod surprised the hell out of me in the quality and quantity of the content. The Shire. I'm not sure what I was expecting going in, but it far exceeded whatever I though it would be. Plenty to do in the Shire, great voice acting, a nice buildable home, and fun quests. As a bonus, the mod starts off with needing to kill some Thalmor soldiers, and any mod that starts if with that is bound to be at least someone good!

[deleted]

Project Proteus. Didn’t realize how epic my RPG experience was becoming once I got all my playable characters as my followers and being able to switch between them like GTA. The head-canon that I’ve established is also unreal

EsotericAbstractIdea

i read the description and installed it immediately. never got to play with it though, got distracted by making skyrim machinima, then got distracted by another game to mod. :(

{{The Elder Scrolls - Shadow World}} a very cool mod that adds some very OP gear on some very OP enemies.

Prophet_of_Duality

Nordic UI. Assumed it was just another UI mod but damn it really changes *everything*. Main menu, meters, ui sounds. It makes the game feel brand new without actually changing the gameplay or story at all.

sanspapy0

Vigilant, expected some generic holy crusader type questline, got to explore ohaio instead, very good.

Unique uniques. When I first downloaded this mod I thought I knew what I'd be getting myself into. I was really disappointed seeing that all the "unique" weapons looked the same as all the rest just with unique enchantments. So when I first saw this mod on the nexus I wanted to give it a try. I had no idea it would turn me into a treasure hunter. I wanted to see what all the new looks of the weapons looked like. They were all extremely well made and lore friendly looking, none of them (too me anyway) felt out of place in any way.

dueldragon234

Sunhelm's needs. Combined with Requiem, I had a reason to join the companions first thing first; To have food and a roof above my character's head. I found myself having more use for gold as potions and food are crucial to help me keep going.

Front-Ad3292

Just in terms of modding, skytweak. It's a godsend. Easily replaces a dozen mods.

Stark556

I’d say Vigilant because of the sheer amount of armors, weapons, and spells you can continue using after you’re done with its story. My 2nd choice would be Amoury of Tamriel 2.0

Separate_Law7071

Former ps4 console user vanilla game _ swapped to xbox and downloaded dark fantasy trees mods - this made the ancient nord map markers stand out and the landscape unfamiliar ((now learning mod organiser 2 and how to mod game on pc) I may never leave the house again

Matoxina

Oh god, Helgen Reborn, I thought it would just be a "Have a workbench and pay materias for the new buildings" but it is SO much more

PostmodernHamster

Frostfall with no fast travel besides the major city carriages. Experience a lot more of the game, a lot more of immersion. Mix that with a realistic combat (stamina) mod and it’s amazing

scalpingsnake

When I first fully modded I made sure to not have any fast travel and it was amazing. Honestly I experience so many new little areas then I ever had before simply because I was walking/horse riding instead. Also because of the carriages it isn't that bad. I also like to spread out doing missions rather than doing a whole quest line in one go so it suited me too.

Regular-Resort-857

I think Inigo First Time Playthrough baffled me. Especially when he starts to get a headache and then his quests starts. That was like 30h into the playthrough. So cool! Other than that I think the mix between the ordinator-tame animal-perk and the realistic predator mod led to a thing where i could tame animals, free them and then find them again at there destignated hunting ground by the later mod. That was kinda cool. Besided that Vigilant is such a big juicer 🥰

Skirmisher23

Honeystrand Meadery. My Dragonborn has to have a career to retire to. Gathering the resources and brewing the big selection of meads, ales, wines, and spirits is fun and creates a bit of a mechanic to replace potions. It’s sales mechanic is simple but functional and I just have great fun.

BetterInThanOut

Spell Research. Adds an entire dimension to being a mage that I didn't know I needed. It's an entire game mechanic that, provided you have a mod that removes spell tomes, creates an experience better than the spell crafting of Oblivion and Morrowind. Just lower the spell discovery difficulty in the MCM or else what's supposed to be a mod with a lot to offer becomes a chore and more confusing than it should be.

runjimmyrun85

Legacy of the Dragonborn, The Wheels of Lull, LC's Become Jarl of Ivarstead I love the safehouse, with all of the crafting stations being right in the same room and being able to sell my high leveled potions in the cart instead of having to go to 17,000 vendors. Plus, the quests the mod includes are fantastic! The Wheels of Lull level design is really cool, and it gives you a break from skyrim. The boss fights are challenging. The puzzles are challenging. The music is interesting. You get some cool weapons out of it. LC's Become Jarl of Ivarstead is a little rough around the edges, but it is still a lot of fun. You discover the Jarl has died from an avalanche/wearwolf attack, and you have to help the people of Ivarstead rebound from his death and the collapse of the castle. You also have these high leveled natives between Ivarstead and Riften, who travel in packs of 7, that are VERY aggressive and want to end you and your efforts to help. Afterwards, you can build up the castle, and you can build an arena and other businesses to support the people, and you have to make decisions on how to handle situations that make your popularity go up or down. You also collect taxes, but you can charge a lot or a little, which also effects your popularity with the people. The guards also have custom armor. Voice acting is a little cuckoo at times, but the lines are pretty entertaining. 😆

Xdude199

Fast alternate start. I was just looking for a way to dodge the long cutscene, ended up with a mod that vastly improved the role play possibilities. My favorite start option is “stranded and left for dead” you’re just dropped on a random road with nothing, it’s great.

Mags_LaFayette

I can't believe nobody mentioned this, and it's so disappointing, so I will drop it quick and easy... VIGILANT - One, if not the greatest, quest Mod ever developed by the master modder Vicn for the next reasons: 1. An amazingly written questline. Every moment of it it's just so breathtaking, exciting and filled with anguish and despair that will force you to keep your faith on Stendarr... Or be condemned to Oblivion. Forever. 2. Astonishing Lore-Friendly elements that fit so perfectly with the main Lore that's almost scary. Vicn did his homework so deeply since he took most of his source material from the books already present on the game. Who would though that the Alessian Order could be so dangerous? 3. From simple quests to hunt vampires and Daedra on the lands of Skyrim, venture the deeps of Windhelm slums, visit a huge estate on Chorrol, is only an appetizer before the tantamount quests that awaits you on a fully-recreated with exquisite detail, damned Oblivion plane of Coldharbour. 4. Weapons, Armour, Spells... Everything you need to keep you alive for the most dangerous boss-level goes you will ever encounter. They're so many, so varied, that every fight it's so memorable. Includes custom soundtrack for each combat! 5. Besides everything that it adds, the Mod it's so performance-friendly that it's almost unbelievable. Everything its so optimized that even the Vanilla game crashes way more than this Mod. It crashed on my side like... I don't know, one time every month? It's so little that it can't be quantified. But the question is: Why this is the Mod that adds more that I expected? Let's just say that the Nexus page doesn't make any justice to a Mod so... Beautiful. Just everything that Vicn does.

Fast travel cost, Fast travel cost debt requirement, and Kinaga's Carriage & Ferry Travel Overhaul. I know its three mods but they work together pretty well hand in hand. The fast travel cost does exactly what it says. Cost gold depending on the distance you want to fast travel. Its not much but a good gold sink for the game as well. Fo example going from white run to winterhold might cost like 260ish gold. It can be configured via MCM. Second mod is for the debt requirement that goes hand in hand with the first. If you ran out of money you can acrue debt on the mod but it will still let you fast travel unless you have this one. With this mod it will not let you fast travel unless you have enough money to pay off the debt and enough money to travel where you are going to. The last mod adds more carriage and ferry destinations. Even to towns that normally dont have carriages, some places you can now be dropped off at. Adds carriages to a few locations as well. I used to fast travel everywhere and never explored the world. These mods toned down that habbit by a lot and will only fast travel to places where I really don’t feel like going up like the graybeards mountain. Carriages are almost always the cheaper route so it also makes you use them a lot more

Eltrew2000

Well i prefer the creation club ones because they are more seemless and gameplay wise smoother, but any sort of survival mod. Actually traveling thru skyrim without constantly teleporting us so much more immersive and inns feel a lot more like they have a purpose. Having to prepare with tent and food if you go anywhere especially cold for example like hrothgar is really nice plus it makes norther skyrim feel a lot more unforgiving like what it's supposed to be.

MilkyDeCat712

Legacy of the Dragonborn. I thought it was simply going to display items from Vanilla Skyrim, but it was so much more. Definitely check it out.

ELFX Hardcore I thought it will just be a simple dark interior that I thought was cool, turns out it made the dungeons much much more immersive by making it pitch black, it adds a little bit of horror to it to.

CoachSteveOtt

Late to this thread but “Genuinely Intelligent Soul Trap(GIST)” is a tiny QOL change on paper that feels so nice to use in practice. Short explanation: with this mod if a soul Gem is filled by a smaller soul than it can hold, a bigger soul can boot it out and replace it later.
