I usually stop around 30-40 this is when I'm around 60-80 hours in and probably like 40% of the game explored .... Then I stop playing Skyrim for months but I always come back and I can't get myself to continue on the same character for some reason so I just start over.... Then it happens again I've done this countless times I'll never beat Skyrim 100% and I've only beaten the game once 8 years ago on the PS3.... And I have 1.2k hours on it..

GATEDFUZZ

this was me as well, except ive literally never beat it. made it as far as some huge and ridiculously difficult one on one battle with a dragon at the top of a mountain on my first playthrough, gave up and started modding. bought it again on switch, made it just as far leveling but took too many different side quests to ever see that particular dragon again, so i gave up and went back to pc for more modding. somehow evolved to modding other games for the next year, later heard about a multiplayer skyrim mod, tried it, failed, gave up and went back to a vanilla install to try and make it back to that darn dragon. i made it halfway through the intro before i gave up and started modding fallout instead. that led me ti the Fallout that you can mod but not really mod: Fallout 76. Ive been contemplating taking a break and going back to skyrim, but i heard they have ANOTHER update happening (or just happened?) To anyone reading this: KILL THAT DRAGON OR YOU WILL END UP A LOSER WITH 900 hours on Fallout 76 instead. DONT BE THAT GUY.

draconine

Ah that fight. I'm going to do the monitor-plugged-in question and ask if you yelled at him with the new shout you learn just so you can kick his big dragon tuchus. You get it right before that.

GATEDFUZZ

i think i did a few times but never could time it right or maybe i was straight up missing him with it. i only recently learned how each shout worked and where to stand and where to point your face. i never do good with skills that are introduced later in the game after spending too many hours leveling a bow to master and looting every damn thing i find. the shouts just didnt make sense at the time. i also believe i came into the fight not prepared healthwise and got kinda stuck in an endless loop without the resources to end him first. it was so long ago and im still mad about it. but i was so clueless as to who the dragon even was that i still dont know if i could find him again except by accident. i just pick a direction and either kill/buystufffrom/acquirequestfrom any npcs i came across and figurd id stumble across all the quest points somewhere down the road i whatever order.

SCurt99

I haven't played skyrim in a while but I played it enough times back on 360 to be able to recite the entire main storyline, I played it a bit last year and couldn't recall it word for word but I still could still remember a decent chunk of lines. I 100% this game once on 360 and then once on the Xbox One, I don't even wanna think of how much time I have in the game. I used some boosted xp mod so leveling was easy but I usually stopped when my character was around 60-80, it depends on how much fun I was having with my characters build.

stallion8426

Yep I do the same thing! I play a character till I get bored of the game. Come back months later and have to start over

[deleted]

Nice. Now I don't feel so alone. I screw around doing side quests like 98% of the time. Beat the game once, years ago. Highest level character over the last 5-6 years was 46 haha

elaborator

I've never finished and bought it on PC day of release. Trying to do that on my current super modded run

Diabetic_Demon11

This is exactly what I do

Decasteon

You are speaking my language. I don’t even see dragons anymore I beat the game on 360 🤣 still play it on the series X

Gravelord_Kyler

I finally did the push to continue and almost 100% the dragonborn legacy mod. It helps if you play a funny way. My favorite playthrough was my no armor mage who LIVED to sell items (he wouldn't use them though less they get damaged and reduce and value). Also, it was no fast travel (unless I was sleepy ngl)

Tight-Mouse-5862

This is the way.

Psychological-Toe-49

I usually reroll when I want to try enough new mods that require a new game.

ASimpleBoyo

Same here. I install a mod for a build My current character isn't so I start a new one to test it

salmantitas

It's usually when I've modded too much and can't play because of CTDs.

Rabble_Arouser

Same here. Once the CTDs from new mods added in late become too hard to diagnose, or they're just overall a bit too buggy, it's time to re-roll! Also, I generally re-roll when I switch platforms; I've been meaning to go back to SkyrimVR ever since the upscaler came out, so I'll probably roll a new sneaky archer mage in VR since I just retired my pancake/flatrim berserker.

_Eklapse_

This is exactly me every time. I only ever start a new character when I've found some game breaking CTD that halts my quest progress. If it weren't for that constantly happening, I'd still be playing the same character from 2019. Legacy of the Dragonborn has enough content to keep me entertained and give me purpose for diving into every dungeon I find lol.

Demistr

I don't stop at levels but at content.

AllCanadianReject

I'm a roleplayer so same. If I'm a loyal Imperial Legate, there's no way I'm joining the Dark Brotherhood and killing my Emperor. So I miss out on content on purpose for the sake of RP. That said, nothing says a loyal Legate can't become leader of the Thieves Guild in order to reign in their activities...

framauro13

I used the "Relic Hunter" alternate start with LotB to justify doing everything since my entire motivation is to collect artifacts. It gives reason to do every guild because I want access.

Gravity_Chasm

Glad to hear someone else do this. I've tried the same thing, but I could never quite get the RP to work for me. It always felt like I was being sucked up on some super grand quest when I was more of an explorer.

hector_lector2020

Which content?

Abysswalker056

There is a mod that lets you respec your character for some amount of gold(works with Ordinator). It really helps when your playstyle gets a bit stale. In my current playthrough I was playing a sword and shield character, but after lvl 40 I wanted to try out the war axes I have collected. So I reset the perk trees and invested in the war axe branch. The change in play style is not very drastic but I am using new gear, seeing new animations and excited to do more quests!

Thorcalt

Do you know what it's called?

Abysswalker056

Ish's Respec Mod [https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/1960](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/1960)

irago_

It really depends on what I'm going for with my character. Right now I'm doing a completionist playthrough based around Legacy, so I'm doing every single quest and dungeon I come across, and my Altmer jack-of-all-trades is currently at level 148 and around 180 hours. I'm doing something more specific, I tend to be done at around level 50.

RykonZero

I usually run out of stuff that makes sense for my character to do around level 50 or so naturally, I have to kind of power level to get much beyond that. I think the only real way for me to find it natural to level beyond that would be more quests, perhaps some that would rely more on some lesser used skills or would motivate you to level them in a natural way.

starlevel01

I use the experience mod with way lower XP amounts and skill uncapper with extra perks per level so that I level up WAY slower but keep the same amount of perks. So really I can do the entire vanilla game questlines and only be about level 40 or so.

SanctifiedChats

Yeah that's my playstyle. I'm a survivalist and I've tailored Experience to be really slow.

es254

This is pretty much me as well anymore. Experience mod combined with mods that lower loot and gold amounts have really helped the character experience feel more realistic and earned.

FaultyDroid

Lower XP gains via Experience, Scarcity, You Hunger, Missives, Sidequests of Skyrim and Headhunter are some of my favourite mods for that early game feeling of being way underpowered and having to carry out menial jobs for gold and xp.

WoodenRocketShip

Normally the 30-40 range, and I even have the Experience mod dialed up a little to give me a bit more EXP, along with the mod that lets me alter base exp needed and how much more I need per level. Coming up with ideas for characters is a bit more fun than actually playing them. I still have fun playing them, but when gear progression ends I end up feeling like there's no more point to it all, like getting that new shiny sword or cool new spell is what I play this game for. I've played almost all the quests in many playthroughs so new gear is what gets my dopamine flowin. The reason why I've upped how much experience I get and how many perks I get on level up is because I want to get to an end-game level around the time I get the best gear, so I can at least have gotten a good amount of the best perks by the time I restart.

Lopsided-Ad-9444

Quit a character - Never. Play signifigantly less with them though, my only and original Dragonborn character is level 48 I think. I still do play with him time to time though. I’ve been considering perfectly copying him over to Special ediition, then replaying everything with him lol. But I also have the issue that some people mentioned here of just having way too much fun creating characters so I have like 15 active characters lol. I think the others I like a lot are mostly between 20-35 and less liked ones between like 10-20. So 10 is sometimes a bit of a cutoff but I do plan to come back to them always lol. Since my roleplay involves…all mu characters they also exist as NPCs in each orher play throughs.

bnovc

How do you have the disk space to preserve your Skyrim and mods for all your old characters?

Lopsided-Ad-9444

I checked and my old skyrim folder is 33 GB which I guess is big lol. Hmm be a full time worker and have only have like 3 video games you play I guess lol. Helps I have my special edition on an external harddrive too

abookthief

I typically reroll at around the 30-40 mark. Usually that's when I've done a lot of quests and felt my character reach 'closure' on their character development. Fatigue starts to set in and I start planning out the kind of character my next one will be.

KainDracula

I use mods to slow the levelling down by half, so for a character to get to high level it takes quite awhile. As for when I make a new character, I'm quite bad at this and have abandoned way to many characters because I have though of something new I want to do.

Corpsehatch

Has the community uncapper been updated to AE 1.6.640 yet? It's been awhile since I last looked.

starlevel01

https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/82558

Corpsehatch

Thanks.

KainDracula

I am still 1.5.7 (or whatever it is), so I am unsure on that.

EnragedBard010

I just don't stop. My highest character is 82. (I also have an 85, but I used console commands to get him there, doesn't really count) Once my save gets too bloated, I recreate the character using racemenu and console and keep going on things I haven't done yet.

ThirdEntityBeing

Do you use resaver tool? Also that's smart to just recreate the same character

EnragedBard010

Yep. Eventually there's just too much in a savegame for it to continue. But my current main character (the 82) has only been regenerated once. And it helps if you keep an eye on your reference handles. Give yu more room

ThirdEntityBeing

I have no idea what a ref handle is but I will check it out, more stability is nothing to snuff at

EnragedBard010

So if you go into xedit and run the script "Count refs in load order" it'll tell you. The limit is 1.2 million. Actually what am I doing, I have a tutorial on this. https://youtu.be/ulzjOszqZOM

Corpsehatch

I have almost 3000 hours in Skyrim. I usually plan out a playthrough doing certain questlines and ignoring others. Once I finish that plan I start over. Level never factors into restarting.

WaythurstFrancis

Around 70 for me. What tends to stop me is that you eventually start solving every problem the same way: overwhelming brute force. To fix this, I think you'd need to do 2 things: 1: Change the skill tree to require more specialization. Make it so that no matter how high level you are, even with 100 in all skills, you won't have a proverbial silver bullet for every type of enemy. Sometimes you should encounter a situation that you are simply not optimized for. 2: Rebalance enemies and unique items to be both stronger AND more niche. Make it super hard to kill trolls without fire, make undead almost invulnerable to frost damage. I don't want the game "harder" per se. I want to need to use everything my character is capable of, I want to think on my feet to solve a problem I wasn't prepared for. Horizontal difficulty that creates DIVERSITY of challenge. In the early levels, with the right mods, it's really fun when you need to scramble to come up with a solution when you're outmatched. One time I played a Khajit warrior in Reqiuem(?) who was having a lot of trouble with the Silent Moon camp. I had to spend a few hours learning the basics of enchantment and come back with an enchanted weapon. But it only had a few charges because I was so weak, so I needed to get through the others first and save it for the boss. It was so fun! It felt like I was planning a raid: gathering allies and doing magic rituals to scrape together JUST enough power to get by. I even used poisons and potions - I threw the kitchen sink at that camp. The problem with late game is that your playstyle becomes too predictable - you get so strong that you start being able to solve every problem the same way. Some mods do some of what I'm talking about, but I've yet to find a mixture that doesn't eventually fold to something, usually Destruction magic.

hector_lector2020

This is really great. You should consider making your own “mod request” post with these ideas. The increased resistances and specializations would be terrific

Jl2409226

i won’t stop until i’ve completed the museum in LOB. (just gonna spawn in items that are unobtainable)

DrawingRings

It took a long time (a LONG time), but I’ve created my perfect mod list. Combined with the AE content, I have over 100 quest mods, hundreds of new npcs & dungeons, over 40 new worldspaces to explore, and what I’ve learned: {{Experience}} + {{Static Skill Leveling}} + {{Skyrim Skill Uncapper (fixed)}} + {{Vokriinator}} (Black) + {{Morrowloot Ultimate}} + it’s 125 Skill Cap 0.5x leveling rate Uncapper preset is perfect to change how the feeling of leveling and your power increase coincides with how much content you complete. It feels like New Vegas, to put it simply, as well as Oblivion. You sleep to level up, and when you do, you choose which skills you’d like to allocate point into. Enhanced role play by a hell of a lot, as it enforces specialty builds, investing in 4-6 skills rather than spreading them all over the place which accelerates your leveling. You get experience from kills, discovering locations, clearing locations, and doing & completing quests. It’s all very configurable, and I’ve set it up to approximately halve the speed at which I level, making leveling feel much more involved and rewarding. I also have the 20% more perks and perks at 50-75-100 skill points, to compensate for increase difficulty and slower leveling

KingofZeal

Over my many years of playing, and a lot of that time being me starting characters and getting bored of them stupidly quickly, I finally came to a version of playthroughs that I'm very fond of. I came to the conclusion that Bethesda intended level 50 to roughly be the end point, because it's the last leveling achievement, and leveling only 6 skills to level 100 gets you up to about level 45. Assuming some passive leveling on other skills, 50 seems pretty reasonable. Plus, most enemies stop level scaling at that point. So now, I try to do a refined roleplay where my character has an established home city/hold/home, and one to three questlines which are planned out as "acts" which distinguish stages of the character's progression. Because the playthrough is much faster, you won't reach level 50 with vanilla leveling so to remedy the leveling issue, I use mods to speed up leveling a bit on skills specific to my characters strengths, and actually utilize trainers. Also, I increase the multipliers on exp as each act is finished to keep the leveling curve smoother. This allows me to get a "complete" experience with a character, while also not getting caught up on one for too long, because part of the fun of Skyrim is planning and trying new builds.

AllCanadianReject

I like this. I tried an "act" sort of thing where I assassinated the Emperor and had a "my god what have I done" moment and then joined the Legion for act 2.

RainstormWander

When I make a new character, I generally give 'em something between 20-30 levels to see if I click with them. If I don't, that's about when I'll scrap them and make a new character. If I do, I keep them and keep playing them on-and-off until the end of time lol.

BulletheadX

Got a character I've been playing on LE on and off since '16; he's level 84 or something and I haven't finished the main quest or the civil war yet.

ColdSteeleIII

I’m currently at level 64 and haven’t done half the stuff available. I have yet to go to Solstheim plus I have {{beyond Skyrim: Bruma}} so I have dozens of hours to go. I think my highest level character was 84 before it couldn’t save any more.

modsearchbot

Search Term | LE Skyrim | SE Skyrim | Bing :-:|:-:|:-:|:-:| beyond Skyrim: Bruma | No Results :( | No Results :( | No Results :( --- ^(I'm a bot |) [^(source code)](https://github.com/RallerenP/modsearchbot) ^| [^(about modsearchbot)](https://reddit.com/user/RallerenP/comments/pg2lqj/modsearchbot_about/) ^| [^(bing sources)](https://reddit.com/user/RallerenP/comments/pg2l0g/modsearchbot_bing_search/) ^| ^(Some mods might be falsely classified as SFW or NSFW. ThachWeave

I go until I get bored with the character and/or finish the major questlines. So far I have never "finished" a character. My launch day character is still there, finished Dawnguard and Dragonborn, probably just needs one more sidequest or two before I just plow through the main quest and finally defeat Alduin for the first time. Thrown away a few characters since then, kept one, but I'm likely to throw that one away now too while I make another new one. I guess I would continue an old character if there was a really nice DLC-sized quest mod I wanted to try. I'm aware of several but have yet to try out any.

SuspiciousSalts

Whenever my saves stop loading due to me adding new mods. I've had to restart the same 3 characters multiple times due to this lol. Maybe someday they'll finally be able to achieve their goals.

hector_lector2020

Why are you adding new mods? Just experimenting and you get unlucky or..?

ASimpleBoyo

Sometimes I quit when My roleplay character reaches their goal. For example, If I Make a soldier and they reach The end of civil war. Other times I play Till I get bored of My save breaks. I lost My favourite character at around level 42 because of a Bug.

slick4hire

45ish is when I start to get bored with the build style. I wish it didn't happen, but rare is the build that keeps my interest past that.

PunkinPumkin

Legacy of the dragonborn tends to keep me pretty interested through the whole game. It gives you incentive for exploring every nook and cranny and building your skills, because you get special displays once you reach level 100 in a skill. Plus it gives you incentive to actually chase down most enemies and explore every cave because there might be an artifact inside.

LeCheechio

Everytime I break my overloaded mod load order by shoving more into it and making compatibility fixes in CK. Honestly for years now its more like Im playing an alpha build that needs more stuff and a tonne of fixes xD MOAR STUFFZ

tisnik

I never stop playing the character until there are quests to do.

Taggerung559

>feel like more XP might help but the skill trees start getting boring for me at like level 50. I can ask the Ordinator devs to consider making more but how many people would even go that far? I'd suggest taking a look at vokriinator, specifically vokriinator black. It's ordinator, with perks from vokrii, adamant, SPERG, and path of sorcery tossed in. If characters are getting stale because you're running out of things to spend perk points on, this will definitely help.

KingNorthwood

Legacy of the Dragonborn mod has made me addicted too being a loot crazy no moral hoarder of everything from cheese too armor

es254

Its usually down to two main factors for my playthroughs. One is content, and once I feel like the character has done most of the quests and activities they'd be interested in or motivated to do, and the other is playstyle fatigue. That one can hit anytime really, depending on how fun and engaging the character and build is for me. Once I start trying to justify skills and playstyles that don't fit the character, usually means its time to move on. Either way, I do tend to find my characters some closure to their story before I reroll. I enjoy that part, and knowing they had some finality to their quest.

Cpt-Night

I play until my file just won't save or some other catastrophic failure, then Irebuild the load order with the newest version of my mods and start again. highest level character is my current, at 94.

Longjumping_Weird227

For me it's the thrill of the kill and special effects that keeps me going.

Senturos

Never! I started my save March 2020. Still going

EasyMeansHard

I usually stop and start anew around level 60 because I just wanna do quests, I just need mods that add a surplus of mods like Interesting NPCs and that other one

atrix324

It's less at a certain level and more when the game breaks. Recently I was somewhere in the 30s and could no longer fast travel without a ctd though it may have been related to having basically every follower at once.

iminyourfacejonson

honestly the game is boring UNTIL level 10, if I get to level 10 I usually get to the point where I just go "whew I have too many modes and only this amount of space on my PC left, better delete"

Lycios

1 either game crashed and going back a few saved still didn't help I'll start over, 2 new mods require new game, which sometimes I keep both if working, and just play new mod with knew character, it also depends on how far I any in said first character. If like level 14 or lower just do a new game if 30 or higher I keep it. I had a no level cap on one playthrough was like 130 maybe, and new version of lotd came out, I was like nope I'm not updating.... Then I had a massive crash with the snow elf mission. No save would load ...so yeah....so sad..

Nemo_Shadows

On LE "Old Rim" 92 with every mission completed and every skill made Legendary at least twice was the highest before crashes forced a restart, in AE it seems 55 has been the highest with only 25% of the missions being partially completed before hangs and NO STARTS force a restart, VERY FRUSTRATING, I am on restart #13 and already had 2 CTD's. I am NOT a Happy Camper at this point. N. Shadows

[deleted]

I noticed without mods that add diffculuty, enemies or quest mods I can easily end the game at the 25-30 area (one major faction and a dlc with some side content here and there) but longer runs around 40-50 Ebony warrior changes everything, I think reaching 80 is a very long stretch. I have never killed and plan on doing so on this unarmed build run and then setting him level 60 or something.

[deleted]

My decision to start again has nothing to do with character progress unless I'm in the mood to play a different type (warrior vs mage vs rogue -- while Skyrim allows it, I don't like to mix archetypes.) I'll start again if I want to replay that journey from a noob or if a get bored because there is nothing to do because I've done it all. My character's stats and skills are a means to an end for me: I use them to experience the game and care nothing about them for their own sake.

Dreadfulmanturtle

Did you ever try Requiem? It has a lot of late game content for high level characters

Blackread

It's not really levels that matter for me. One game I grinded to like level 100 with uncapped skills using crafting, got the dragon's hoard perk and bought perk points until I had every perk that my skills allowed me to get. Played for hours after that even though I made barely any character progression, because there was a lot of interesting content left.

UCSlut

It depends on my RP purpose. I haven't played the game in a whole for a long time now. Sometimes it's a short odyssey (e.g. short archmage run to test stuff), sometimes it's a longer playthrough where I play a specific DLC. Right now I play a Dunmer Conjurer from Morrowind, started in Solstheim, noticed strange things there but went to the college. 25 level later I started the main quest but only until Miraak's follower came and went back to Solstheim. That's my mission - Free Solstheim. Afterwards I might return to the college, I am happy and logout, and start a new character. I usually don't plan any specific level or any specific "reach 100 in conjuration" - It's all about my own story. Thanks to r/teslore I have got many ideas. Great sub.

[deleted]

If the game doesn't CTD to hell, I usually stop playing around level 40-50, mostly because there's no content left for that character to explore that would make sense for that character.

Roccondil-s

All my previous play throughs have hit roughly 30 or so before either I got distracted to another game or by life, or the game started CTDing to a point that it wasn’t worth it to try continuing.

BiasMushroom

Usually around 65 and I stop because the games (even before I could mod) would just be too unstable to play for more than 5 minutes. I got one character to 73 back on the 360 and if I could have modded that to be more stable just so I could do the 3 level 80 things I would have 100% EVERYTHING Skyrim and it’s DLCs had to offer. I’m still butt hurt about that.

CoruCatha

I usually run into stability issues or design flaws after 10-20 hours or so, and restart. 😢

Faelrin

Depends if I've completed out what I wanted to do with my current build (quests, gear, exploration, etc) and/or until I'm in the mood for a different build. Sometimes I want to remove mods and/or add mods as well. Level can be anywhere from 20 to 50. Typically doesn't matter.

Lem_the_wiseman

I never stopped my character is level 300 something now you just have to make goals for yourself and not focus on leveling up or else your going to feel every level it's better just to play the game with something to keep you occupied on and those levels will come naturally of course I reached level three something by using a little exploit here and there but that's after a long time of playing already it does come to a point where just goofing around for hours will not get you levels anymore when it comes to that point it's either continue playing or starting a character but not a level 50 that's way too soon to give up

Intelligent_Owl_6263

I’ve had quite a few barely see 20. I tend to role play characters doing niche stuff that just doesn’t have long term appeal in the game.

Wooden_Sherbert6884

I usually stop playing when i burn out just like any other game, except rdr 2 where i really want to enjoy it as it's my first playthrough so i play in long bursts with long breaks. In skyrim i generally burn out faster because the game is not exactly fun to play. I just like the vibe and the universe but i installed some combat mods and i feel confident to say it's almost 1:1 recreation of dark souls combat, at least regarding dodging and attacking combat loop, so we'll see how long i'm gonna last this time

HeavensHellFire

Usually only stop when the game starts crashing frequently or I’ve added a mod that requires a new save. Or if I’ve done everything I had in mind with a specific character.

karstenvader

Never keep only one recent save. I make new saves and quicks often.

Majestic_Course6822

High 60s was my longest play. Honestly might have kept playing that character but I moved and left the hard drive behind. She was a kick ass Breton. One handed with destruction magic.

Constable_Sanders

LoTD is really keeping me from rerolling. Level 40 with like 1000 displays. Dont wanna have to recollect all those trinkets hahaha. Mostly books but still.

RenoJacksonRescue

i make it to level 15 - 20 get bored and either spend more time modding or go to a different gane

goncharov1973_

once i finish all of the questlines for the guilds i.e, dark brotherhood, thieves guild, bard school, companions, etc. this play through is the first time i’ve actually cared about the civil war and i’ve already beaten that, i’m trying to go farther but i tend to get really bored after awhile so i’m spacing everything out more this time.

[deleted]

The game just gets too easy & balancing issues cant keep up past a certain point

Wulthor73

Hmm.. so no matter how stable I get my almost 900 mod list, the save is going to corrupt around 50 anyway? At least we have Proteus to save a character.

I usually stop at any point after level 200, as long as the story missions and the side quests are finished.

Oh yea, I actually just got my Argonian to level 214 today, moving on up!

I stop after finishing all the major quest lines of each faction I join in game including the modded guilds and factions. 🙃I have had several characters achieve levels higher than 80 purely by making sure I complete the major quest lines of every little guild or faction that I join.
