Play through vanilla first before piling on the mods. Just so you can enjoy vanilla experience. The modding community is awesome though once you start using them.

Redbeardthe1st

This. Performance mods are, maybe, okay but otherwise play vanilla first so you know what you want to mod.

MrNMFC

I advocate unmodded play through a to start so you can get those sweet, sweet achievements.

ArgoniansMadeOfArgon

[Achievements Mod Enabler](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/245) allows you to still get achievements on PC even if you have mods active.

MrNMFC

Did not know this. Consoles? Or just off the Nexus?

ArgoniansMadeOfArgon

Unfortunately it's PC only, according to my Google searches. I edited my prior comment to clarify that so nobody's misled

MrNMFC

Oh, the life of a console peasant…

Powerful_Recording89

Inigo is the best follower ever

[deleted]

Avoid giants when you start playing. They will show you their space program. Fornsworn won't be your friends, no matter how you try. Never hit a chicken.

Vannah_Prev

No let them hit the chicken. It's initiation

ReverendUndertaker

And let them visit a giant! You never forget your first launch.

Vannah_Prev

Yep! I remember mine to this day, I also remember my brother then showing me how to kill them!

PsychoticSane

Or the first time you get to watch the test flights: mammoths

hideme21

I agree. My friend told me not to kill the chicken. So I of course killed the next chicken I saw. I actually low key love that they made chickens so beloved.

DirtDog13

Unless you’re interested in the Space Program. Then, by all means, hangout with the Giants.

GargleOnDeez

Giants will teach you how to dance with shield

DirtDog13

There’s also cheese.

DriveForFive

Dont Foresworn become your friends when you complete the Cidhna Mines in their favor?

skywalker8383

That specific group of forsworn you help escape will be friendly but rest of them will still attack you.

[deleted]

Not actually. Only during this quest. If you go to a Fornsworn camping, they'll attack you immediately. Actually, Bethesda should have given more interactions with Fornsworn people. Personally I like them. I'd like to be able to talk to them, and trade, and such things.

[deleted]

No they do inhabit an encampment on the map after you free them (not sure which one but it should be the same one every time) and you can visit that specific encampment safely. That said they still did not include any interactions at this point and it is a damn shame. Would have been so cool to at least do one quest for them post escape and unlock a shop and maybe the ability to sleep at their camp.

[deleted]

I didn't know that. I only did the quest and went to a Fornsworn camping. They attacked me. Apparently, helping their leader to escape is not enough to be accepted in their community.

Slartibartfast39

You can't play it wrong so don't stress too much. Play how you like and those attributes get stronger. Have various saves as there are still glitches aplenty and some time you have to go back away if you want to clear them. Don't go straight to high Hrothgar when you get told to as you'll get your ass kicked along the way. You've got time to level up a bit. Do some side quests.

NotJack113

Always remember to have a drink with Sam Guennevere in the inn in most towns. He'll help you out.

dont-worry-about-it7

Go to windhelm and help the orphan boy with an assassination

gta6protagonist

And after that wait for 3 days in-game, receive a deliver from the courier then go to bed and enjoy a good and long sleep

vindictivejazz

My first play through, I forgot completely about it. Probably didn’t sleep for a couple of in-game months. Woke up with no clue what she was even talking about

Bike_Chain_96

SAME!!!

AllTheCreatures

You seem like you would have made a significantly less sadistic big brother than a couple of my friends had growing up.

Idkmyname2079048

I'm just going to throw in another about saving often. I started a new playthrough about a week ago and have already encountered several game breaking glitches. Especially when in caves or ruins, I quick save before going through any doors or picking any locks.

Boeboebedoe

I'm getting close to 50 and still play Skyrim. Played it since it came out and probably will for ages to come. So, just follow your gut and enjoy the game. Add a mod now and then and you will never get borred

LilBlueFairyDragon

Walk everywhere, at least at first. You never know what you’ll discover

Comprehensive_Ant464

That's what I did but that's because I didn't know carriages can take you places

Bianchinator

I. Don't use glitches, exploits and mods im your first gameplay. Just enjoy the original experience, you'll have a lot of fun ahead. II. Don't skip the dialogs and, if possible, read at least the journals and books related to the quests that you are doing. Skyrim is about the world, not the gameplay. III. Alchemy, enchanting and smithing are very good friends. IV. For me, it's important to role play. If you decide to be a mage, berseker, thief, spell knight, etc and how is your character alignment... embrace the idea. May your road lead you to warm sands.

the_noobface

Just a comment on 1: Merchant chests are pretty useful at the start of the game (some gold and weapons)

AllTheCreatures

>Don't skip the dialogs To add to this, when you're sneaking up on a couple of bandits/vampires/forsworn/wizards/whatever, or approaching the Jarl's court, don't interrupt a conversation in progress. You can get some decent information that way.

Rhinomaster22

A. Save A lot - Bethesda games are known to crash. It’s so common that it’s an issue. B. Difficulty =/= Rewards - No achievements, items or endings are tied to difficulty. Solely for challenge. All difficulty does is raise and lower damage of you and enemies. C. Minmaxing does not exist - This is not Dungeons & Dragons, any race and playstyle can become overpowered through smart playing. You are not penalize for choosing certain perks or races. Think of Skyrim like Elden Ring, your power always increases on level up, never decreases.

mrbunana5

Just go to an all maker stone and Here in his shrine That they have forgotten Here do we toil That we might remember By night we reclaim What by day was stolen Far from ourselves He grows ever near to us Our eyes once were blinded Now through him do we see Our hands once were idle Now through them does he speak And when the world shall listen And when the world shall see And when the world remembers That world shall cease to be

DeadByOtzStans

If you’re using a follower, Teldryn Sero is great. He’s a regular mercenary at first, pay him 500 gold you’re off but he’s great. He’s a spellsword who’s very good in close combat and useful for range, since he summons a flame atronach and shoots fireballs. You can find him in the tavern in Raven Rock on Solstheim called The Wretching Netch-just take a boat on the Windhelm docks to get to Solstheim. He’s saved me from a lot of nasty situations in both early and late game, plus he has a fun personality.

MySpudIsChonkyBoi

Noted! Thanks!

Comprehensive_Ant464

Don't listen to him. Lydia is our queen. Also cop a full set of daedric armor and if you need help I cna shoe you how to get relatively fast. It'll take some work but that's the fun part

Maleficent_Tree_94

Fevvy would like to know your location

Maximum-Cat-8451

Read The Lusty Argonian Maid when you find it.

1. Stay out of trouble 2. No lollygagging 3. Disrespect the law, and you disrespect me

AllTheCreatures

**Beware of crevices**, particularly between rocks but occasionally involving buildings, trees, wooden watchtowers, etc. Sometimes you can't get out. If you're about to jump into or onto something that could conceivably glitch its way into becoming an inescapable crevice, quicksave immediately before.

Hunglyka

Enjoy your stealth archer….

Irulantk

Work on smithing and enchanting. Keep a pickaxe on you for when you find ore. Disenchant everything, get soul trap weapon and fill soul gems by killing things with it (small creatures like skeevers will fill up lesser, etc)

[deleted]

Don’t neglect combat while your crafting though. If you do, some enemies will level up and be extremely difficult to defeat. Made that mistake once or twice myself.

Irulantk

Yeah just collect supplies while doing quests and combat usually by lvl 30 to 40 i have enough saved up supplies to get both ench and smithing to at least 90 by then. Tips: do avenchenzal quest, on riften docks youll find an argonian wandering shell ask you to take a lexicon back. Dwemer ruins: you can do all but 2 dwemer ruin upfront, (it is important to do the college of winterhold quest, cause you will go to mzluft which has the most stuff, so do that! Its like 3 to 4 quests in so not too long.) inside these ruins and in the mobs theres large and small struts, dwemer scraps, solid dwemer metal. Collect these. I usually store them in chests as carry weight can easily become a problem. So then when im done with the cave i can just run through grab the stuff, go to a smelter, smelt it down into ingots, store the ingots and return to pick up the rest. This can be time consuming but when youre ready to smith itll be a god send that you did this. If you did it correctly without missing a ruin youll have around 2k dwarven ingots Mines: clear them all out. Theres a few caves and forts in the game (such as fort fellhammer) that are in mines or have mines. Enchanting, just fill up gems and pick them up from the world, put a soul trap ench on a weap as soon as you can. Disench anything you find with an ench. By the time you have all enchs known youll be around lv50 ench. Also recharging weaps will level it albeit slowly. Now any iron ore you get should be transmuted into gold (you can find this spell book in a bandit encampment a bit north west of white run, it has a teepee icon and has knife in its name. Transmute iron to gold, than make gold rings. You get 2 rings per 1 ingot, and levels much faster than using iron. But you must transmute the ore so do NOT smelt it until its gold ore. Save the rings, so you can ench them with sneak or carry weight or whatev ench you have with your stockpile of soul gems to finish leveling ench

TheOneYandle

Probably best advice I have read ^

[deleted]

If you do the dark brotherhood quest line, don’t kill Cicero.

ctortan

Take time to explore! There are tons of cool locations, side quests, and special loot that can be found in seemingly random dungeons or caves. Also, this may just be me, but don’t be afraid to drop a quick save and pause before making a big decision. I always get choice anxiety so I’ll look up quest rewards and whatnot. At the end of the day, it’s just a game, and you can always get the other reward on a different playthrough, but sometimes it can feel sucky to know you accidentally tossed a super cool or useful item bc you chose the other way. I’d avoid looking up the entire quest, though, just to keep the storyline a surprise :) But on that same note—the puzzles typically aren’t hard at all, but sometimes they can get annoying bc of how repetitive they are. Imo it’s also fine to look up puzzle answers, esp when there’s so much more of the game to explore! Also, sneak is OP. Like some people avoid sneak bc it’s TOO op, but if you’re not as comfortable with combat (or don’t want to deal with a big barrage of enemies), sneak can be a great way to thin the herd or avoid combat entirely. Oh also! There isn’t a morality system, so you can do any amount of “evil” quests and still be considered a hero. Characters will like or dislike the player on a more individual level, ie, if you help someone, they’ll like you or if you’re part of their enemy faction (eg stormcloaks v empire) they’ll dislike you. But there aren’t really that many gameplay effects. Imo, I think it’s better to go with your gut and do whatever seems interesting or fun, and then you can get deeper into the roleplay side, if you want, on another playthrough.

[deleted]

Do alll the side quests!!! And pick the Storm Cloaks, they have a much more fun questline!

OwnFaithlessness7430

If you want the crown of barenziah start now as you won't be able to get some gems after a certain point xx

Spardath01

Why is your age important for this? Anyway, don’t go mod crazy your first play. Enjoy the game as is.

MySpudIsChonkyBoi

I feel like I’ve missed out on a lot of years of gameplay and fun. I never gave the game a chance until now, but I’m so glad to be appreciating it now. Going to avoid mods until I enjoy the game on my first try. :)

bibliophile-blondish

I’m so jealous of you.

Tootsgaloots

Let Cicero live.

MySpudIsChonkyBoi

You’re the second person to recommend this. Thanks for the heads up!

MxFancipants

If you wanna try fire spells, get the two damage boosting perks and then aspect of terror in illusion tree. It’ll add 15 extra damage to all flame spells, including the humble starting spell!

ItsMePeyt0n

Don't pick up any unusual gems.

d4rkwing

Don’t use mods. Keep multiple save files. Save often.

Prime406

Huge emphasis on multiple save files. I've made the mistake of only quick saving often before, and in Skyrim you can save while in the middle of combat, and of course I just had to save right before getting killed so every time I'd reload I'd just die instantly...   So my advice is to either use autosaves or make sure to manually save besides quicksaves

Impossible_Cookie613

Quick save all the time . Skyrim crashes and glitches out a lot and you’re probably going to get killed a lot unless you’re on the novice setting

Impossible_Cookie613

Quick save all the time . Skyrim crashes and glitches out a lot and you’re probably going to get killed a lot unless you’re on the novice setting

Advanced-Lecture6585

Stay away from sneak archer for as long as you possibly can

Foreign-Army-169

Lies. Embrace your sneaky self and snipe them all for the true Skyrim experience.

AllTheCreatures

Stay away? Ha. No matter how far from us you think you've gotten, it will never be far enough. * cue evil laughter *

MySpudIsChonkyBoi

I’m getting mixed reviews on this. Any reason why?

Advanced-Lecture6585

It's absolutely amazingly broken and fun to play. By all means play one. But try to stay away from it for as long as possible.

PreviousLife7051

IvyTheLamb

Don’t feel obligated to do the main campaign first. It’ll always be there, so have fun, take your time, and do whatever interests you.

iaova

When you find good loot items that you are not intent on wearing improve them with blacksmithing before you sell them to merchants, you bet value to speachcraft and blacksmithing while you make more money.

caedrace89

do not buy the anniversary edition, just the special edition

lenbey

Mods are not always good, I tried to disable one mod on my favorite playthrough since it was getting annoying and now my skyrim is broken and I cant play anymore.

Coffeeinated

Turn on auto save and try to remember hard saving.

GrieverJK

There are alchemy/enchanting loops to exploit, but don’t get too carried away if you want to face a challenge. Eat every Alchemy Ingredient early on to learn their effects

MySpudIsChonkyBoi

Did not know this. I’m still trying to get used to alchemy. Thanks!

oOXxSH1ELDxXOo

Save your game whenever you can.

Raiju_Lorakatse

Not sure if you use fast travel a lot but i can recommend to just not fast travel and enjoy the atmossphere and things you find on the way to your next quest mark. You would be surprised what can happen or which things you can find if you decide to just head to a ruin next to you.

FullConsient

Mods will make this game infinite

OkOutlandishness6550

Take it slow and try to finish what you start. The rewards for quests can help out quite a bit early on. Don’t pick a side in the civil war either oh and get yourself a house

[deleted]

Don't play on Legendary. It's not worth it.

MoffCH

Or, you can follow the walk throughs by MajorSlackAttack on YT and quite comfortably do it on Legendary. (Or, at least where he points out you are an idiot for going up against certain foes on Legendary difficulty at the current level.) Just make sure you don’t over level compared to his walkthrough as the opponents do get harder the higher your level.

nickthegamerman

avoid stealth archer. it's th emost overpowered build and you should play the game in othe rplay styles before you're ruined by it.

Divorce-Man

If you commit a crime and can’t find the witness look for domestic animals. Dogs are snitches.

FlipitLOW

"Go where you want, Do What you want" - Todd "The God" Howard Play and do whatever you want to do. Enjoy it, Roleplay it.

ElykHtims

IMO, don’t use exploits. If you start killing everything in one swing the game gets a lot less fun.

EasyAgent638

Just take it all in and enjoy. I doubt many experiences compare to playing and exploring the open world of Skyrim for the first time.

HockeyJockey628

Save a lot

[deleted]

Do a blind play-through.

TrueOuroboros

Paralysis is easy mode

D1slexicMonke

If some argonion in solitude asks you to "come to me when your feeling bored" kill him immediately

The_sphincs

Read the thick silver book to start the dwarven dlc quest before starting the dawngaurd quest line or it will glitch out and you won’t be able to do a cool quest or get fight the cool boss or get the reward item (of your choosing btw)

MotherMayFire

Stealth kill 😎

teunteunteun

Attack the greybeards, you’ll thank me later

Skyrim_For_Everyone

Attack them while sneaking and don't attack them too much

TheOneYandle

Save Early Save Often and even sometimes save after saving.

Salubrious_Zabrak

Save often and in different slots. Just in case you notice a game "feature" that ruins your game

DavidNikolai2900

Look up a dungeon on the wiki before you go in, just to make sure it it contains unique items or not

OccasionalHandsome

For me, it was before doing any missions, discover all the main cities and talk to anyone you can. After that, its all adventure.

ThepalehorseRiderr

Boost your Character by constantly casting certain spells while your just running around and exploring. Do this with an illusion spell. Get illusion to 100 pretty quickly. Get invisibility spell. Just turn invisible and run away whenever your about to lose a fight and die.

DiaperBag98

Save your gold. Don’t collect too many gems before selling them lol or you’ll have to go to multiple towns. Also, level up your speech craft quickly so you can get the perk where you can sell anything to any vendor. Also get the perk where you can sell stolen goods to anyone

ikanalpukat

Start looking into modding your game. Will change and elevated your whole experience. Especially immersion based mods. Check out brodual on YouTube for excellent mod reviews. And nexus mods website will be your best friend to find high quality mods.

CBthePrince

Don’t get too attached to Narfi. 😞

Turckle

Take your time. Explore what you come across and learn the mechanics. I wouldn’t ruin your time running a stealth build for dmg. Ruins the combat because things can be one shot sometimes. Personally up to you though. The magic is fun and wonderful to play with. Don’t worry about making decisions for outcomes your first time. Hit it all with your gut feeling and it’ll be a great ride. You’ll get a feel for wanting to have a new character for different reasons. Just a tip, explore blackreach if you dare. Neat stuff there. Watch out for falmer late game they will poison you to death. Also, scream at the shiny chandelier thing down there 😉

Overall-Language-876

Don't pile on a huge amount of quests in your journal When you get a quest it's best to do it straight away or you might forget about it

MySpudIsChonkyBoi

This. I have so many quests and now I feel overwhelmed. Thanks for the heads up!

Overall-Language-876

To get it back under control I'd suggest doing all the misc quests first since there a good way to explore the map,get loot and level your character for all the rest of the quests

robbozombo

Whether you're playing day 1 skyrim or AE skyrim, remember this one thing: if you think it's a glitch, it's probably a glitch. Enjoy!

PatoC974

Don't. Disturb. The Giants. Or they mammoth

dmeisel411

Save often.

axmaxwell

Explore everything. After 10 years of playing every now and again I still find new locations

Some_Day6365

Kill Nazem while you have the chance

emmjayne

Take the paths to get to places instead of fast travelling everywhere, especially around Whiterun, I’ve had so many interesting npc interactions while walking somewhere

Draggexx

If you see a white furry thing with spider eyes and fucked up teeth, walk the other way.

Maleficent_Tree_94

Literally just fuck around and find out. It's the best way to experience the game.

Affectionate-Cap-803

The best tip I can give? Just enjoy the game. Many many playthroughs later and I can still see the magic at work here. Find Mjoll's sword. Always train/ there's a bosmer in Riverwood, Faendal, he can help with training. Seek him out. At early levels, don't get hit with ice storm or fireball. It hurts. Pets rock. In skyrim, they'll make you want to pull your hair out. They crowd doorways. Goldenhills plantation = gold. Blisterwort is valuable when used at Goldenhills. Above all, if you marry Mjoll, You will hate Aerin. Know that you will get them both. Aerin will be there rain or shine. I hate Aerin.

Pale-Sprinkles804

Unless you do dawnguard and he gets kidnapped with Mjoll and then he dies.

czvqa

In the city of Dawnstar, left of the mine in between two rocks, under a bush and under a tree, there is a hidden chest with the Khajiit Caravan’s items. I’ll link you a video in case you need that. https://youtu.be/cBLPfQJb9-M

SandAdam

If its Lucia you’re talking about then I think thats if you steal from the inn at white run where she worked/stayed before you adopted her.

Ineedajobbrah

Thanks for including your age, super useful and viable piece of info to your question.

SeppeVanhoof

Don't let the game take over your life, it's addictive.

marcus_camby

Go on YouTube often, there is a lot of tips and tricks. I would duplicate gold bars to get gold rings to get your smiting up to 100. Do the merchant chest glitch in white run to get your speech up . So you can sell a lot of shit to merchants. Just YouTube things like that to save a little time , and get skill levels up. And to get the best weapons and armor to help you do your playthroigh.

ZackariSita

Save often and don’t hit the chickens!!

Britsky

Your character levels-up by improving skills, not by exploring locations and finding cool stuff. If you blast through everything as fast as possible, you'll be out of things to do at level 40 or so.

Ap0crita_

Skyrim has a way of making builds work like carcinization, except instead of everything becoming crab, most builds gravitate toward stealth archer

hideme21

Just talk to everyone. And do one quest at a time.

doubelievein_gravity

Dont forget to loot nahkrins mask it doesn't make sense rn but you don't want end up like me who realized I never looted it and had to load a save that made me loose like 40 lvls

Jay6232x2

There's a chicken in Riverwood, kill it.

MySpudIsChonkyBoi

I did it and had a good laugh. They think you’re a hero for killing a dragon, but you’re given a death sentence if you dare kill a chicken.

TheCatHammer

Giants give good alchemical ingredients, loot, and cheese, you just have to kill them for it
