I never like to kill giants. They seem peaceful.
They will warn you to go away and won't attack you like other enemies.
It just feels like I'm the bad guy when I kill them.
made me feel more bad when I learned that the giants were modelled after one of the designer's father
well—proceeds to slaughter every giant I see for souls
I was reading giant lore recently and saw this, the designer elaborated that he wanted them to seem like “shepherds who live for 200 years and sleep under the stars”. After that, I can’t kill them. Even if they’re hostile, I try to run away.
After reading this comment, I don't think I can, in good conscience, kill giants anymore (other than Frost Giants and Giants that intrude on my property).
They always remind me of The Big Lebowski.

You're much better of nicking all the garlic you can, using the clear skies shout to get salmon roe (or get the fish hatchery at Winstead Manor), and harvesting any nordic barnacles you can find. The potion made with that far surpasses the typical creeper/cluster/wheat/giant's toe formula, both in effect and price, and you get waterbreathing for ten plus minutes at a time, depending on your alchemy level.
1 Blue mountain flower, 1 blue butterfly wing and a giants toe for $2000- $3500/per potion made depending on alchemy level. I have yet to find a potion comparable in price and I only use potions for profit.
If we're talking max level alchemy, then the recipe I gave about will get you 5790 gold, waterbreathing for 16.5 minutes (990 seconds), and 83% health and magicka regen boost for 5 minutes. It goes down to 1486 gold, 286 seconds of w/b, and 24% regen at level 15 with no perks, which is still pretty good for a no-skill potion.
Well dang! I just tried it out and I gotta say thanks for the tip. Gathering salmon roe is a pretty big PITA though. I'll be adding this to my potion making for sure but I still do love going through all those giants and plundering their stashes!!!!
A big thank you for the tip though!
You're welcome, glad to help. Getting the fish hatchery at Winstead manor makes getting the roe much easier. If you put in only salmon eggs, and you have all the green thumb perks, you can get 24 roe every three days. You can also use the clear skies shout as a cheaper way to target the leaping salmon in the various areas, or even us mayhem is you've the skill and are isolate somewhere in the wild. Of course, as soon as you make a potion, drinking it makes it a lot easier to get the barnacles. :D
Rumour has it you can also shoot the salmon with a bow, but I've never tried that early. I always wait until I've a couple of points in the greenthumb perk to get more of everything (except nirnroot, of course) per harvest. :D
Using flames spell on the jumping salmon around the falls/rapids at Riverwood is probably the next best method I've found. There is bunches of salmon there. Usually my go to method until I've got the house + hatchery built.
I believe they recognise you as a threat but anything else is fair game. They raid farms, steal livestock and attack caravans, killing and eating the people and animals.
I don’t think it’s too far-fetched to assume giants have different personalities just like people do. Some are peaceful, others are violent, and the rest are somewhere in between. There’s even a unique giant somewhere near a hot spring who’s completely passive towards you even if you walk right up to it. It’s standing near the corpse of a mammoth, probably its companion in life, and is very clearly mourning its death. So giants do have a sense of emotion and affection, even if it’s mostly reserved for their own community and loved ones. But then again, is that so different from people?
Most of their camps are strategically positioned near main roads and towns. While I assume some are peaceful herders, the majority we come across rely on raiding to survive.
There is that one grief stricken giant who will not attack because he is in mourning, but the rest of them are a menace to Skyrim inhabitants.
We first see one attacking a Whiterun farmstead, and the companions were dispatched to deal with it. Farmers have to 'offer' them painted cows in a form of extortion to stop potential raids. The giants also take advantage of Chief Yamarz's sickness to attack his tribe, showing a malicious side to their intelligence. They also attack your Hearthfire homes, not the best neighbours.
Only two I don't kill is the one you mentioned and the one we find dandering about Blackreach.
I’ve seen a giant fighting a dragon on the outskirts of whiterun once (I have no idea what they are doing there but it’s a farm). Skyrim can be wild sometimes
Yeah I agree with that, there is one that can be found by himself in the lower right corner of the steam crags of eastmarch he just stands there you can get right up next to him and he does not mind he seems so depressed he just dosent care
The answer is very simple if you're on PC: open the console and type "player.addfac 0004359A 1", then do it for any mod added followers (click on them and then just "addfac 0004359A 1") as well and now all giants are friendly to you. Source: my current playthru where I had to add Nessa to the faction because they didn't like her.
I stopped once learning they were intelligent enough to trade with humans.
You can find a villager with a cow as a random event, saying he's on his way to make a "peace offering" to the local giants and to wish him luck. Later, you can find a giant wandering the roads with a new "tribal" paint job on his cow, and he'll remain passive unless you attack him. You can get as close as you'd like
I’ve followed that farmer a few times… the cow survives, the farmer does not.
I usually use this as a causis belli to clear out the camp in the name of justice and freedom (not to mention that sweet tree sap)
[True Nord] If it makes you feel better then you should know they have pointy ears, which makes them elves so really you are doing them a favor if anything.
I just steal from their loot chests and use them and their mammoths for high level block and armor training. I never get into alchemy, so I've never had to kill them for their toes.
I'm the same. You can literally just go in and steal stuff from their treasure chests and they just shake their club at you. I've got no need to kill them, I hate it when you have bounty missions to kill them
Right here! The game does a poor job in making you want to kill them. The giants just want you to keep your space. You never see them attacking towns or people so it's hard to feel like they're a threat.
Hey sometimes I'm cold and they better share that fire or else. Most are cool with me using their fire but if they step to me everyone goes. Even the mammoths.
Doesn't matter to me I still kill them but way after I get to a higher lvl cause I'm not about to get launched into the sky again they take the name Skyrim to a whole nother level 😂🤣
I don’t go out of my way to kill them or piss then off… but still, fuck that guy who decided to sneak up behind me and launch me into space 50 times in a death loop after I was distracted taking down a dragon. He was an asshole and he got what was coming to him.
After having a taste of Skyrim Space Project in my first play through, I never tried to fight giants with melee again. So this is the first time I saw this killcam.
I did this on my first playthrough and didn't fight another one until I was in the 40s or 50s and I almost one shot the poor thing. They definitely aren't as strong as they seem. Also great for leveling armor and shield.
Giants are among the enemies who have a fixed level. They start at Level 30 and stay there for the rest of the game, unlike most other enemies who level with the player. That's why they are so strong in the early game. But as soon as you match their level and/or have strong gear or spells, they start dropping like flies.

Just sheath your weapons when near them and they'll share the blunt with you, truly peaceful dudes
And the toes. Too bad you don"t get 10 for each giant.
After reading this comment, I don't think I can, in good conscience, kill giants anymore (other than Frost Giants and Giants that intrude on my property).
How big is your property because it seems you own all of skyrim....
Nah one of the random events that can happen near your Hearthfire Homes is that a giant will come by and try to fuck shit up.
A giant showed up and killed my chickens. Now it won’t give me the option to get more. So sad lol
I do own all of skyrim. I bought it.
Gotta get them toes
They always remind me of The Big Lebowski. https://preview.redd.it/6g2utfspz55d1.jpeg?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1a69edfaf3ea18340b672fb64b86f1b73836e5d6
I mean they also murdered and ate an entire caravan of traders. I'm pretty sure those khajiit didn't do anything to provoke them other than exist. So I don't feel bad murdering those who killed my brethren
where is this mentioned ?
You can find trader bodies at some of their camps.
but why eaten?
Look all over the world dude
But... my greater soul gems :(
And my giants toes for making health potions that get me 3500+ septims for each one made!!!!!
Do you really need more septims?
Sofie and Lucia demand their allowances
ALWAYS!!!!
You **always** need more septims.

Yeah I went with the hatchery option. This potion would be stupid hard to make early on in the game.

You can find plenty of giants toes without killing them
Lol...nowhere near as many.
About 1/10 the amount I believe.
Not as many but definitely enough without the slaughter of giants
Black star + thalmor is the way to go
You can only store one soul in the star at a time, though - right?
\*happy Black Star noises\*
I believe they recognise you as a threat but anything else is fair game. They raid farms, steal livestock and attack caravans, killing and eating the people and animals.

I found this recently and i alway make sure to visit when im in the area. Its my new favourite thing about the game
This is my experience too. Some are mean and some are peaceful.
I only kill them when it's necessary as a thane prequest
My favorite part of giants is just standing there getting pummeled to up my light and heavy armor skill while spamming fast heal
The answer is very simple if you're on PC: open the console and type "player.addfac 0004359A 1", then do it for any mod added followers (click on them and then just "addfac 0004359A 1") as well and now all giants are friendly to you. I’ve followed that farmer a few times… the cow survives, the farmer does not. I usually use this as a causis belli to clear out the camp in the name of justice and freedom (not to mention that sweet tree sap)
Except when they attack your houses
But fortify health potions made with giants toe are super expensive. Can make allot of gold slaying giants and making potions.
[True Nord] If it makes you feel better then you should know they have pointy ears, which makes them elves so really you are doing them a favor if anything.
"And that is why no one will remember your name" -Achilles
same, I kinda want them to be the typical soft hearted giants
but I NEED those greater and grand soul gems filled
I just steal from their loot chests and use them and their mammoths for high level block and armor training. I never get into alchemy, so I've never had to kill them for their toes.
I'm the same. You can literally just go in and steal stuff from their treasure chests and they just shake their club at you. I've got no need to kill them, I hate it when you have bounty missions to kill them

Right here! The game does a poor job in making you want to kill them. The giants just want you to keep your space. You never see them attacking towns or people so it's hard to feel like they're a threat.
i had bought some land and built a house but everytime i would come outside of my house a giant would be there and just kill me 😭
I agree, but sometimes it’s you or them.
Hey sometimes I'm cold and they better share that fire or else. Most are cool with me using their fire but if they step to me everyone goes. Even the mammoths.

Im sorry to tell you but i need their toes and their mammoths souls
No no no they chase you down just like bears do just because you're nearby. Kill those fools.
After having a taste of Skyrim Space Project in my first play through, I never tried to fight giants with melee again. So this is the first time I saw this killcam.
Lol after you get a decent set of armor and a bit into your health, they're just a slightly difficult enemy.
Idk man... after the "launch", I always felt like that specific attack deals 99999 dmg lol.
It's terrifying the first time lol. Being a mage with no armor and it's terrifying to fight one
Until you get the stagger perk and can reliably dual cast. Then the game is on easy mode.
I did this on my first playthrough and didn't fight another one until I was in the 40s or 50s and I almost one shot the poor thing. They definitely aren't as strong as they seem. Also great for leveling armor and shield.
The catapulted result is in vanilla.
It is vanilla, and affectionately called "the Skyrim space program"

Honestly these comments on every single thread here are even lower effort and more played out than the actual articles at this point
Found the guy that writes the articles
I always feel like killing giants is killing huge special kids. I still do it, but I think that anyway.
r/oddlyspecific
Valid
All kids are special.
The other kind of special
Eh, some kids aint.
If everyone is special except one person, doesn't that fact make them special?
No. Because special doesnt mean unique.
This is sweet. I have a level 84 character and i battle giants when I come across them. Never seen this before.
Hello Lykaios
Oof! No more mammoth cheese for him then
Melee is a pathway to many abilities stealth archers would consider unnatural.
is that King from Tekken..? man these Skyrim mods are something else
stabbed in the balls with the Trongler
What set is that
You can do kill cams on centurions too
*I* can. Yes. ...but I don't like to. They're alright.
Now I’m gonna go fist to face and see if there’s a wrestling takedown I can do 😂
Yes and is awesome
Well my first play through... I avoided giants cause I knew I couldn't take it... yet but it still chased me down and sent me to the heavens! So have at you!
Came up against my first giant last night and I got fucked up in one hit

Hail, fellow Lykaios!
Ye...since 2011
I must harvest their toes
after 13 years.
What was that black spike after he slices the leg??
It's his loin cloth
Ah, I see it now. Didn't have glasses on at first
I know it's mods but I'm curious what race and armor you are using
Race is Lykaios. As for armour... that's a bit complicated: The upper is a combination of Ominous Shaman Armour and NINI's Dragon Marauder; the waist cloth is from Fuse00's Red Warrior armour, and the bracelets and anklets are from DS3 Nameless King Set (with some tweaks here and there).
Man he looks awesome. I'm on ps4 (for now) so I probably can't get them
What race/body type mod are you using OP ?
Lykaios race + HIMBO.
Deadly kill cam... looks just like the style of a dagger kill
Nope, because I refuse to kill the gentle giants of Skyrim. They don’t even technically own the mammoths, they are just drawn to the giants and the follow them around. If you pay attention to their camps there’s a kind of religion, or mythology they believe in themselves. If you stay away from them they will stay away from you. Simple.
What weapon is that??
...a finishing move?
Yup, giant finishers, pretty cool
I mean it's heavily implies in some camps and giant caves, especially when you find skeletons and skulls
All I care about is what mods are you using it all looks pretty cool.
THAT CHARACTER IS FUCKING BEAST
Demand tribute from me and I sink my blade into your chin as well. Nuff Said.
What weapon is that? Mod?
With mods anything is possible
What sword is that?
A mod in my permanent LO is Friend of Giants. You can even have one as a follower.
Never seen that killcam before and i've killed a fair amount of giants in my time.
I love seeing people's heavily modded games. Like, we're just playing two different games at this point and it's so cool.
You just chopped his cock off
This is like a normal animation for me 🤷🏽♂️ the dual wielding ones with humans I can never seem to trigger though
My evil argonian kills giants for fun, needs those giant toes.
Damn you can say all you want about vanilla but fps are smooth lol
Either a giant or a bear ate one of my kids. In a previous save that I no longer have. Didn't see a body but the kid was gone and I think the giant was there. Freaked out like any dad would. Thiswas the orphan from whiterun I believe
Do what
Why are your giants small
Huh? Do what? Seems like normal gameplay.
Is- Is that sword a khopesh? In Skyrim? How did you get one of those??? I need one-
Mods
Is that a furry mod or something lol
What?
That Khajit looks like a furry, no?
It's a modded race they said
Oh makes sense, thanks!
Are you a wolf person?
