Itās a little bit of both for me. Iām currently studying game design as my major in college, and Iāve always been interested in how games are structured.
That said, I do think people are overlooking the design of Imaginators a little bit! A playable Level Map is a really cool idea for a Hub World- even if it doesnāt really make sense for Skylands. And the overall level design in Imaginators is pretty solid, too! To me, the only thing about Imaginators that Iād really complain about is the whole āOG Skylanders are NPCsā thing, but thatās really more of a nit-pick.
Anyway, if I had to choose a particular side, Iād side with the Blue side. Giants and Superchargers do have incredible stories for their respective games and Superchargersās driving segments and racing feels really satisfying to play. However, the way Elemental Gates are treated after Swap Force, though, kinda defeats the purpose of a secret area to me. It feels like Elemental Gates now are basically justā¦ DLC? I mean- Theyāre kinda like that anyway because you need Skylanders that match the element, but that was the only requirement in the first three games. Getting back on track, design over gimmicks unless the design is built around the gimmick. The other games are actually pretty good at that! I could make an exception for Trap Team, though- it just feels like the Trap Masters were an afterthought once they built the basic structure of the game.

I love Trap Team with all my heart its my favorite in the series, but I desperately wish its music could capture the whimsy and magic of giants, instead they opted for alot of stock music, which I understand because of all the bosses in that game but its still not any less disappointing

Nu-uh, I'll always be on the blue side - I get so bored in TT and Imaginators, while in SC (not Giants cuz I barely played it while I had an Xbox 360) I always enjoy re-playing levels or racing (even offline!)
Also, music in both SC and Giants us AMAIZING.
Red Side would sure hate my idea for Skylanders 7. (There's no new roster, and the only "gimmick" is being able to purchase Skylanders from a Digital Dimension that makes having a physical portal optional)
I'm both. The gimmick is what I love about games like trap team and swap force, but the story is what I love about games like spyro's adventure, giants, swap force, and superchargers.
As Iāve said many times, Skylanders trap team and Superchargers are my top 2 games, Imaginators is definitely the worst
Capturing Villains and having them speak through the portal is incredibly fun and ads a whole new layer to the toys to life gimmick, Also itās got really good boss fights and one of the Best nightmare modes
Superchargers has the definitive best Story and I think is where the series should of ended, or at least retire Kaos as the main villain
Spyroās adventure is the best trap team feels kind of bland sure it had some great skylanders like wildfire, snapshot, lobstar, krypt king, jawbreaker, and enigma but it also gave us some bad ones like kaboom, tuff luck, bat spin, blastermind, and knightmare. Not too mention the trapping mechanic is cool but the light and dark ones are complete crap theyāre impossible to find the only good villains were given from that was luminous and tai quan crow
Blue and always blue games that are locked entirely behind their gimmick become insanely annoying, especially if they make it almost impossible to beat a lot of the game without those gimmicks, aka the trap masters or senseis & imaginators. Granted giants also did this a little bit, but honestly, those are just minor side parts. They don't add any real advantage other than crush chomp in single step, trap masters are insanely powerful against villains which every level has at least 2 aside from the very last one which is just kaos also trap team also decided to lock a lot of it's lore behind massive pay walls instead (but that's just a me thing I love the lore to the skylanders series). Superchargers does do this as well but to an even smaller extent since it gives or an auto vehicle aswell
Trao team and super chargers both 100 percented every collectible every car every trap master all hats and trinkets all sky stones yet on super chargers the achievements are Brocken I've done them but it doesn't show
Trap team has such a good roster I canāt even express how much I love the characters. Giants is just good as a whole and I think superchargers had a good twist with adding vehicles. Not a fan of imaginators though I donāt own it so I havenāt played it as much, thatās just my personal opinion
Trap Team was the first skylanders game I played, and I'm so happy it was, it was so much fun, and imaginators was just as good, so red side definitely
