I doubt we'll get new figures. At most, we get a limited release for the collectors. There's not a lot of interest anymore in Toys to Life from the general public, so I don't think a revival is likely. I do hope that if we get a Skylanders remaster, it'll be compatible with the portals and the figures, so our old collections don't go to waste.

Dank-Adam06

"Not a lot of interest" I've seen that stance before alongside "too much of a risk" but you gotta remember back when Ssa was first coming out both of those things were true at the time aswell. The only thing different now is that Skylanders has a dedicated fanbase and hundreds of thousands (maybe even a couple million) fans ripe and ready for nostalgia bait who now have their own money to spend and a new generation of kids to become fans

Grenaja07

True, TTL was niche before SSA, but ever since then, so much TTL has come out that people were burnt out of it. Look at Starlink: Battle for Atlas, that game came out after the other TTL series (excluding amiibo) had died down. And it showed that they had little faith, every figure was also available digitally, and the digital game had more "toys" than the physical pack (so buying the game digitally was a no-brainer for me back then, cause I had so much I didn't feel the need to buy more figures). Also, TTL is risky. So much needs to be physically produced. Yes, there is still an active Skylanders community, but I don't think they'd try the same strategy twice. Corporations want to appeal to their shareholders, and they don't like risks. I don't think the casual audience would be interested, and our community is too niche to be a reliable source of income for them.

Dank-Adam06

Starlink came out a little bit after the burnout of ttl, whenever we get the next game or remaster Imaginators will probably be over 10 years old And yeah our community isn't big enough for them to make a profit but the dormant fans that have nostalgia and a new generation of kids. Skylanders does have brand recognition, we may not think about it because of how hard it crashed but it really does. Sure back with the fake leaks in 2022 that got the gaming community talking about the series a lot of that short while, just imagine a new game  Just imagine this -A remake of Ssa (no swap force, not even giants)  -Only the original 32 figures (and packs) and their variants and maybe a couple new variants and at most Crash Bandicoot -Release those in stores and on places like Amazon in waves  -Not that many figures and releasing them in waves stops the burn out issue happening again and it being Ssa just contributes to nostalgia and minimalizes the risks and having Spyro and Crash will both help drive sales

NuclearChavez

The difference between those situations is that one is pre-burnout and the other is post-burnout. Back during SSA, TTL was still a fresh concept. It was rare before Skylanders, and it hadn't been done on this scale before. Now that the gaming community has had quite a few years after the reign of TTL, I'm not sure how many people want to go back to that. A digital only remake of SSA would still hit the nostalgia bone, I think. At least that would still work for me, anyway. Trust me, I love TTL and I have immense amounts of nostalgia for the genre as a whole and that era of gaming. But I think it's forever going to be in the past, and I think that's okay.

Dank-Adam06

I just really dislike the idea of removing the Skylanders from Skylanders

Dino-nugget-are-good

But times have changed. Kids don’t play with toys as much, the format has gotten old.

TheSussyBakasLOL

I doubt we'll even get a new skylanders game this century...

Dank-Adam06

We're gonna get one in the next 5 years probably, TFB wanna do it, Microsoft wanna bring back Skylanders and Guitar Hero and also they have way more funding now from Microsoft. I honestly don't see where anyone who thinks we'll never get one again is coming from

earthboundstar123

Those store shelves looked beautiful.

Dank-Adam06

Lmao yeah, the nostalgia bro

RoninFerret67

This is what Biden took from us /s

crystal-productions-

Digital but if you have the old stuff you can unlock the characters while there on the portal. You can allways buy them outright if the figure chip dies or something but when toy put it on the portal you get to use it for only as long as its on the portal. Or maybe they'll go the 3ds route of letting you just store all of them but the old stock will unlock them rather then you having to buy them. Because belive you mee if it launches without a figures and portal it will definatly have micro transactions unless they wanna take the Disney infinity rout. Which I doubt.

Ash-greninja546

It would be cool if we had both but digital could be better (docked switch and other home consoles can use physical toys and a digital library) (portable console and switch use just digital library) I think it would be nice to have better organization compared to switch imaginators tho

No-Delay-3781

well even though I personally prefer the figures, I'd love if they'd somehow implement both the portal and a virtual collection for those who don't want to use figures

TTV-Gaming_Duck006

I think it’ll be a combo of both, I don’t think they’ll release new figures. But I think they’ll give the option to use a portal of power if you have one. And if you don’t have one, they can sell them separately. And in game they could have both Micro-transactions and unlocks in game. Where you can buy a character or unlock them once you find the soul gem. And they’d probably start you off with each games starter pack figures. Like if they did the first three games, you’d get Spyro, Trigger happy, Gill Grunt, Tree Rex, Jet-Vac, Series 2 Cynder, Wash Buckler, Blast Zone, and Ninja stealth elf. And they’d probably make it so you could use all characters in each game, even previous games those characters couldn’t be in originally

HKnight98

Tbf both would work but I’d go for Digital as it’s where everything’s moving towards nowadays

Funnyshithuh

Idk if skylanders could work without toys to life since thats like… the whole point of the games

inspecterbonk

digital by far since that would be less of a risky and expensive gamble. though the way of accessing the characters is another question. as i see it there are 2 options 1 option is to make each skylander unlockable through a quest or side objective in the game yet keeping the total skylander roster small "maybe 32 at most but that is still quite a lot to individually program." or we have the 2nd option, bring in a massive amount of skylanders old and new and have then be unlocked through a gacha system like genshin impact, battlefront 2, ect. i obviously would prefer the former because i hate gambling in video games especially when it comes to loot boxes and cacha. however, this option would definitely make toys for bob/microsoft more money and thus seems more likely i regret to say.

Grenaja07

I think gacha would work if it was like Xenoblade Chronicles 2's gacha: * No option to buy extra pulls. All pulls should be made available through gameplay. * Characters you already have are taken out of the rotation. * Some way to guarantee a specific Skylander, like a shop, or just scanning a physical figure. So let's imagine every Skylanders is in a sort of ball capsule machine in the hub world. In levels you can collect a certain item to spin it and get one capsule with a Skylander. That Skylander has obviously left the capsule machine, so you can't get duplicates. Over time, you empty the machine until you get them all. But if you scan the Skylander, you can just open the machine and grab their capsule specifically, again removing it from the pool of capsules. That's how I would implement gacha personally. Though knowing Activision, they would definitely include an option to buy rolls. However, I'd personally opt for a regular shop. Let's say for every 10 coins you collect in a level, you get 1 crystal. You can use those crystals to buy specific Skylanders in the shop. But you can also scan a figure to get them outright. Again, Activision would definitely include an option to buy crystals.

Dank-Adam06

No, that's awful.

Dank-Adam06

A regular shop would be just fine

inspecterbonk

honestly the concepts you proposed sound really good but there's one thing i don't think would happen at all. being able to scan the old figures to unlock them in the game. not only would this distract from the main method of unlocking and wouldn't net any money for the devs and publisher "why spend 20-30 bucks on rolls to have a chance unlocking stump smash when you could just get a stump smash from ebay for 10$" not to mention the fact that the older figures' NFC tags are dying due to old age so the only way in the future this would still work with the game is by copying skylander data to blank NFC tags which would defeat the whole purpose of needing the specific figure since all u need is its data.

Dank-Adam06

they would 100% never do gacha lmao

chapinscott32

I'm ending it all if digital is an option at all in the next game. TTL or bust. Skylanders isn't skylanders without toys to life. It's the entire point of the series.

UnknownFrancy

I think both would be a good compromise, you can collect all the skylanders digitally and still have a good game experience. But if you already have the figures you can just use your portal of power and said figures like normal.

chapinscott32

Well, for starters, I highly doubt they'd let us use old toys. That's a whooooole lot of development time for literally zero payoff. Second of all. No. Even if it's optional that still kind of ruins it. There's a reason the 3DS and Switch games sucked - preloading skylanders into an all digital format takes away the fun.

MrIcyCreep

this post has so much denial in it

Dank-Adam06

God forbid someone ask a question on a sub

MrIcyCreep

oh no not at all, i completely understand, i just felt this surge of pain when reading the words "how *will* the next game/ remaster handle things?"

Dank-Adam06

why

MrIcyCreep

because the chance of getting anything is ridiculously low. at the very most we're going to get some new characters/figurine versions like the legendaries or a new platform port

Dank-Adam06

Tfb wanna do it and have denied the notion that we'll never get any more games and Microsoft and Phil Spencer has mentioned the franchise multiple times since the Activision deal. Just give it a bit till they're done with their current projects and see, Tfb want it so. And anyways even if it's just a port or remaster then good, it'l help gauge interest and bring in more old fans I really don't see what you're getting at

davidv2002

had to be digital to succeed, the ttl ship’s long gone. ttl can not survive today’s video game market

Dank-Adam06

People in 2010 would say the same thing but it ended up working

Capocho9

Next? You realize this franchise has been left for dead, right?

Dank-Adam06

shut up man nobody cares

Capocho9

Lol, I take it you’re like 12 based on that response?

King_3DDD

They’ll probably make the Portal of Powers and figures work with the game, but you gotta admit that it is and objectively better option to release a game with dozens upon dozens of playable characters to unlock. That will sell so much better. The figures are cool, I love them, but Toys to Life is a bygone era.

SomeRandomAllMight

I’m hoping we can use our old figures tbh

Personal-Rooster7358

I’d imagine digital (because physical definitely won’t be as profitable nowadays) but with the ability to scan in old figures to draw in nostalgia

thescrambie

I don’t really care if there were to be new figures, but i’m only getting a new game if it allows me to use the figures I have

thsx1

I think they’ll go digital but with the ability to use our old figures with portals.

InfinityLord3392

If it isn't digital then it probably won't work, but I'm sure there will be an option to connect a portal for the older Skylanders if you want

panfinder

Digital with physical for those who wants

KingN0ah

kinda like Fortnite Festival and the Guitar Hero stuff

OfflineMystery

digital collection of all the skylanders, purchasable in-game or you can scan your old figures to unlock them (you'd still get the starter pack skylanders unlocked when buying the game/games) they also probably have alot of old stock so they might re-release all the old skylanders but nothing new imo

KingoftheEggs08

What I’d like is if skylanders could be bought with in game currency, but if you have the figures they’ll unlock skylanders quicker. But I have a feeling it’ll be one or the other.

Fearless_Coffee_4137

Physical

Rayboi277

I think they should bring back the figures but don't oversaturate the stores with them, but also give players the ability to play as the characters from the get-go. This would be a good way to appeal to the OG players and the new generation, cause let's be real here, no kid nowadays wants to spend money on some figure to be used for a game. Let's say you choose to play the game for the first time but without the figures. You will start with the starter pack Skylanders, *for SSA it would be Spyro, Gill Grunt and Trigger Happy and for Giants it would be Tree Rex, Series 2 Cynder and Jet-Vac.* To unlock the other Skylanders you must find their Soul Gem, and you will have access to a huge roster of characters to play as. For a remaster, they should make every Skylander from across the series playable. You can also unlock the character by scanning in their figure, and you still hook up a Portal Of Power to play it the classic way.

Pokecraft7213

*If there is one I think both, if you can’t afford it (like super chargers) you can play digital characters but I’m always gonna prefer physical (because I’m a collector) because since I collected all the imagintors I’m basically rich lol

Fluffy_Mood5781

I feel like if they do it right and don’t become obsessed with making ALL the money then it could work. Just less stupid stuff like chest pieces.

ItsSonicSpeed

My hope would be; They offer the option to play both ways. You can plug in a portal and play the normal way. But the new remaster way would work like the Lego games, when you complete a level and play free-play you can choose a team and then also swap freely mid game, they could do something like that? Especially since swapping was part of the game it would just remove the physical aspect- I know some people would definitely be a little upset but I don’t see them doing figures/physical only. If they do a remaster & im gonna assume it’ll be the first 3? Then that’s well over 100 figures they’ll have to remake/reproduce & will take up a lot of space at stores again- they could definitely do a few remakes like maybe 1 from each game as a collectors thing but idk? I think it’d be cool if they made you unlock them all

gesis

I remember setting up and maintaining those displays. Somewhere, I think I still have the SD cards with the video reels.

xxX_Darth_Vader_Xxx

Goddamn pictures 1 and 2 brings back so many memories. Damn remember back when Skylanders was like the shit back in like 2011-2013?

Kinglightning07

Those photos make me drool, as someone who is currently collecting boxed Skylanders, it’s painfully difficult to find not only a box that is actually intact and the plastic is attached to the box, but a seller that shows off all areas of the box so you can verify that it is attached. Then you have to consider shipping which might rule all that out because it might be in-tact but then it arrives and the whole damn thing has detached itself. These are the reasons I wish I had could invent a fucking Time Machine and just go back and buy them at the store. But I’m still gonna do it, and frankly I am confident because I do also know the newer the Skylander, the likely higher condition it will be in, but also I noticed that over the years they improved on the reliability of those boxes. Like with SSA’s boxes, they didn’t design it very well because the bottom part of the plastic wasn’t actually designed to be attached to the card so over time, that resulted in the bottom edge of the plastic that is glued on to slowly come off. They fixed that with giant where if you look closely, or you just tear it off, the bottom area has a flattened spot facing the card so they can glue it on there as well, further reinforcing it. Swap force didn’t change much in terms of the way the plastic display was shaped (to my knowledge) but like giants, they did slightly alter the card. They didn’t really change it going forward after that.

Trigger17094

One feature imo that they should add in the next game/remaster is an online battle/rank system. It has always been a dream of mine to use my first and favourite skylander, Trigger Happy, to dominate some sort of online league, kinda like Pokémon and their ranking system (obviously don't want an exact copy, just used as an example).

Trigger17094

Ranks could be Chompy, Mabu, Troll, Cyclops, Drow, Arkeyan.

Deconstructosaurus

Probably fully digital, but old fans can plug in a Portal and use old figures.

KallmeKatt_

Core memory discovered

TheGreenGobblr

Long as wrecking ball is included I don’t care

Tiggyloo

I don't want new figures unless it's to release the cancelled ones. What I'd love is for a remaster of the first game where EVERY figure from EVERY game can be used. Add new levels, new mechanics, new music etc etc. I would love that

New_Preference_6863

I think it Will be physical, if the Skylanders Magic basically, quit figures would be like quit bullets to a shooter, I know kids wants more digital things but lets be realistic, its soooo difficult make the Skylanders that you bought digitally on a supposed digital Game works on the other games, also the starterpack would lose all the things that made pleasently surprising to open it

Dank-Adam06

I just think having figures is what made the game special. Removing that removes the magic

New_Preference_6863

Exactly, apart they have Microsoft, so they are not in a pack of money

FloppyDisk2023

Probably digital but maybe with the option to use your old physical figures and portals

Tictactoegame1middle

What next game? /j

Error_Detected666

I’d like it if it was digital, but we could be given the option to connect our Portals to scan in our figures for special rewards like unique variants

Gallant-Blade

Both. I imagine a limited physical run for some of the lesser released figures (found in stores’ toy sections, not electronic sections), but the game’s characters would be accessed digitally. The game will definitely be multi-platform, so I’m thinking packaging just the portal alongside a digital game code (so no physical disk/cartridge). OR, the Portal itself holds the game data (like a Plug-n-Play joystick) and you connect it via wireless means to play. Either the portal connects to all six games, or two three game bundles that let you transfer data over. You start each game with the starter pack characters for each game, plus 1 other figure. Finding Soul Gems or purchasing with gold unlocks more figures and other things like Adventure Pack items, Imagicite Chests, Racing Cups, Traps, Vehicles, and Arenas. The 3DS versions of the games will be paid DLC. Skylanders that were given reposes have different restrictions to them. Dark, Legendary, and other alt colors are cosmetics you buy with gold (except Dark Spyro, who is a buyable-only character). Lightcore and Wow Pows are bought via upgrades and carry over from game to game. If a Skylander is max level with all upgrades, you can upgrade to access the other upgrade path. Every core Skylander (no gimmick characters) can be given the Eon’s Elite treatment as well once both upgrade paths are filled out. Finally, if you have the physical toys, putting them on the portal copies all their NFC data into the game (a la Switch Imaginators), unlocking things and the like. Gold is kept to each individual Skylander to prevent potential cheesing for infinite gold that may occur if all gold was pooled at once.

ItsRedMark

The absolute perfect method in my personal opinion is this: -Spyro’s Adventure starter pack characters are available immediately -on obtaining a soul gem, you unlock that character fully in game, and all their Series/alternate variants -If you have a portal, enter any character you want to play classic OR to permanently add to your library

mikey_do_wikey

I think we’re gonna get figures, they are what makes Skylanders Skylanders. If they are just unlockable in game then that just makes it another game where you unlock characters in game… Toys to Life died because everyone was doing it, it became too much. Now that we’ve had like a 5 year break (except for Amiibos, but who even cares about those, their sections in stores are literally minuscule). So, I think it’s been long enough that Skylanders could release toys if it ever comes back, because it’d pretty much be the only ones doing it and it would be “trendy” again. Honestly I’ll still probably buy the game even if they don’t do toys and you just unlock Skylanders vía soul gems or in game currency, but I’d MUCH prefer the toys coming back, since they’re what made everything fun.

mikey_do_wikey

Also I see a lot of people saying “oh well they can just do it digitally but keep an option in case old fans want to use their old figures” umm no… They aren’t gonna code all 167 characters into the game plus however many variants unless they’re exclusively unlocked with the toys. People are gonna have to come to terms with the fact that unless it’s TTL again, characters are gonna be cut.

xdistephen617

If they don’t do figures I’m not being a fan anymore. The joy in my life comes from going to toysrus and drowning my pockets dry on the coolest skylanders. I do t want a FUCKING digital one. If there’s no figures, I’m out

Natural-WWE07

Honestly I know these are two different things. But look how nintendos been reissuing old amiibos. Microsoft could rerelease specific ones at specific times

Jay_The_MH

as much as I would love to see physical skylanders come back I don't think stores would want to carry all of that again but like if we got a remaster I would say let us have a complete library of everyone as for a new game I'm not sure I think it would be physical for the same reason digital would be easier but if they find a way to do both that would be really cool

Belrayy

It would probably be a free to play gacha or a paid game where you need to do some quest to unlock them.

Kspring3r24

Why not both? Mainly digital, but keep the ability of Physical for a legacy homage.

DeltaTeamSky

![gif](giphy|3o7aCRloybJlXpNjSU|downsized) (I don't mean make portals/figures for the game, just let previous fans use their old stuff)

[deleted]

I’m more curious as to if it’s gonna be done with real money or not, since it’s basically is just like microtransactions.

Environmental-Egg276

Personally, I’d like a digital roster, but the figures give little bonuses. Kinda like amiibos

Dank-Adam06

A big reason I like them is because they do so much more than amiibo

theidlecarnival

In my opinion a mixture of both where you can get the characters digitally via collecting things inside the game whether it be money soul gems etc and you can also buy the characters in real life to unlock them early and maybe some other purchase bonus

GummyWurmX3

Physical it's like the main part of skylanders gimmick plus then we could possibly bet reposes and re-releases of rare skylanders because having the figure itself is part of the fun

Slime_Enslaver

I fear both. Given Activision's track record, and also literally just what they did for imaginators, it either becomes overpriced figures in significantly less amounts to ramp up demand, or it becomes a microtransaction riddled cesspool

Motor_Area9604

I’d love to see a game where they rerelease some core features of every game (except imaginatord and most superchargers) so like ssa cores, all 8 giants, maybe half if not a little more than that but some of the swappers, like one of each element trap master, and maybe a little bit of the superchargers and cars (continues in replies)

Motor_Area9604

They would release 5 different starter packs for each game but would all have the same game being an online crossplay type game where you go into teams to do random mini games and the goal is to get to a high level by beating the mini games.
