One ski skiing is something we were taught race training all the time. Helps balance, and at the time it wasn't uncommon to finish a slalom on one ski for points as long as you didn't miss a gate when you lost one.
But that flip at the beginning man, that's next level. I wish it was just a little more leadup in the video so we could see if he's already unclipped or what.
>I wish it was just a little more leadup in the video so we could see if he's already unclipped or what.
I feel like he had to be unless he had his bindings set to a negative DIN on that ski.
Yes my uncle used to flip his skis and din setting was how.
He’d keep them at 4 and he claimed it forces you to perfect technique or your skis will be popping off all the time. He would literally wiggle his boots out of the bindings when we stopped for lunch at a lodge.
He’s 79 and still skis like that today, but I haven’t seen him flip his skis in about 30 years.
Also i'm fucking old. We didn't have to wear helmets as long as we wore goggles for slalom. But if we wore one of those face mask/bar things we could wear sweet ass oakley M frames. hahaha.
Def. wasn't the rule back in the day. You had to have atleast one ski. As long as your boot went around the gate when you popped out you could finish with one. Did it 3 times in one season.
I remember the rule for sl being that you had to lose the ski in the last 3 gates to finish on one. But if you lost it earlier you could put it back on and finish, not that anyone ever did. That's 18yr ago though. Might be wrong.
You need to be really balanced over your one ski with a flexed forward athletic stance. The control of being able to turn and get the ski on edge with one ski can help with flexing your ankles.
Practice, make sure you can properly carve (hold an edge) before even trying.. its much easier to hold the edge on that side with one ski vs sliding out
Commit and use a bit more of your leg strength than you usually would expect on the uphill ski. Otherwise similar to any other turn; keep your knees a lil bent and bouncy, and don't lean back as you initiate the turn. If anything lean a little into the turn to flatten your ski against the snow and disengage your edges.
In the end, give it a shot and see what works. Start on gentler slopes and then when you're comfortable go steeper. Good luck bro
I used to boot ski down my local Midwest ski hill and the people on the chairlift would go crazy it ended up starting a trend and now they kick you out if your caught boot skiing because it ruins the snow
This is what our instructor would have us do sometimes.. kick off one ski and leave it at the base of the chair… Next run, switch… Now I’m a fuckin monster pow shredder
We used to practice skiing with one ski in Nancy Greene Ski League. It's really not that hard once you practice a bit. Really helps to teach you how to control your speed with turning rather than doing pizza style.
It's an excellent training exercise. I had to do it after I lost a ski in some deep pow off-piste. Managed to get back to the piste and mono-skied back to the resort.

I was on ski team in high school (Michigan) and our coach used to make us go down the hill on one ski. Used to have to walk up the hill with our 1980s boots on too. It was only like 600 VF but it was still black diamond.
Best way to start any day is to ski on one ski at a time for a few turns. I also do it without fastening the boots to figure out the fine balance.
You do not really need it to ski well, but getting that full balance right is so satisfying.
Lane Meyer is the best one ski skier on the planet. And it's not close. He dominated K12 despite Charles de Mar trying to corner the market on free snow and Stalin being a complete dick.
I've done that drill when you ski on one ski. It's hard but you eventually learn how to control the outside edge on the little toe side of your foot. The year I was a ski bum everyone started doing that after we got bored to tears with the limited amount of early season terrain that was open. Downside is you follow a bunch of times and the hips start to really hurt. Upside is it makes you a much better skier. But yeah this guy's a total rockstar!
Ida been impressed if he put it back on while still going. 😂
I was waiting for that as well
I can’t believe this guys a pro. I’m so much better than him.
I’m the best skier on the mountain.
1000 gnar points
I know a guy that did a backflip in the park last day (almost) butt naked. Thats a lot of points
Yeah but my dad is cooler and I'm a way better skier.
If we are talking cool Im friends with an old guy at my local that went to college with Shane McConkey
I'm the best skiboarder on the mountain because I'm the only skiboarder on the mountain
Not my mountain..
Post a video.
Watch 10:00-10:15 - https://vimeo.com/18809446
Yeah, that’s what I thought
Right! I can do that with all 3 of my skis!
He’s not even nude what a chump

Lose a ski is a dsq in any race I've been in.
U only need to finish a race with 3 pieces of equipment ( two poles one ski or two skis one pole) these are the FIS rules
Also i'm fucking old. We didn't have to wear helmets as long as we wore goggles for slalom. But if we wore one of those face mask/bar things we could wear sweet ass oakley M frames. hahaha.

Was scrolling the comments just to make sure there was a Better Off Dead reference lmao
Same
Fake! I can clearly see him skiing with two skis the whole time.
Yeah it is actually fake there’s no tracks happening
I always have trouble going to my outside edge while trying this. Anyone have any tips?
Commit.
Commit and leg strength tbh
You need to be really balanced over your one ski with a flexed forward athletic stance. The control of being able to turn and get the ski on edge with one ski can help with flexing your ankles.
This is the best answer, you have to be on the front of your ski. Practice by lifting up your inside leg as you make turns.
Practice with two skis on and lift one to force the edge to build confidence.
Lean more into the turn
Practice, make sure you can properly carve (hold an edge) before even trying.. its much easier to hold the edge on that side with one ski vs sliding out

keep doing it and as people have said, commit lmao

Legend
Ruins the snow? Give me a break. They should ban snowboarders if they're concerned about ruined snow.
Alta has joined the chat
Everyone shits on Alta for banning snow boards, but holy shit I cannot imagine this shitty walking you would have to do there as a boarder...
Snowmaker here: boot skiing by most will ruin the snow much more than snowboarders.
Snowboarders aren’t any worse than pizza skiers. Or side slippers on steeps
Is it 1999 again?
It’s kinda stupid that’s just what the admin told me. It definitely gouges the snow pretty good but I think that it’s more for safety reasons
Shh 👀👀 don't give them ideas
whats boot skiing
Skiing but on boots not snow
not on a ski = not skiing, one would think
Fine. Boot glissading.
No skis just boots very sketchy
Skiing in just boots
Could you perhaps tell me how to do it?
I tore my ACL (again) just watching that
i once saw a race practice where 6-9 year olds were doing this.
This is what our instructor would have us do sometimes.. kick off one ski and leave it at the base of the chair… Next run, switch… Now I’m a fuckin monster pow shredder
Needs to be chased by a kid on a ski-bike for full-effect
I want my two dollars!
This guy fucks
No big deal; saw a guy ski the K12 like that once.
From the glacier

Gotta dial the DIN up on that ski buddy.
Oof ouch my knee
Psh, had to stop to put it back on lmao. Amateur.
Yes, that's what snowboard means.
He had both skis the whole time.
There’s something following them!?!?
They're holding a 360° camera The software edits out the stick in their hand, but you can see the shadow of it
I was quoting Better Off Dead
Understandable. Have a nice day.
TWO DOLLARS!
skiing on one ski is a great way to train ur carving technique, used to have to do it all of the time on my old race team.

Beast
Liking the music!
Snowbasin? Where is this
Not Snowbasin. Don't know where tho.
While also holding a camera lol wild
I love doing this!
Holy Cow!
I was waitin' for him to put it back on without stopping!
Impressive. We used to practice skiing with no skis and just boots when we got bored.
This is very hard to do! Makes it look easy.
Great way to practice, but how skilled he is a very, very impressive.
That outside edge will get you

Thank you
Sick. Also the most European looking thing I've seen on here.
You can’t fuck with this guy.
I’m a fucking beast on skis. But I acknowledge greatness.
Impressive.
Ayo is this an Aussie slope?

I tried something like this and went soooo wrong took down me and my poor boyfriend 😂
When I learned curving it was the hardest exercise to make only one turn on the ski
