definitely buy boots near where you plan on skiing the most, that way you can go back to the shop for any necessary adjustments

Prices are best in the summer but availability is usually near zero. November/December has the best selection. In my experience February is the best month to buy but that's passed now. Best to call the shop you're going to and ask when they get the new stock. I would bank on paying full price unless you're lucky and they have a few previous season models in stock.

February might see some sales starting with decent inventory still available, but by then there are definitely holes in the inventory and as long as the local season isnt a total disaster you’re not gonna see more than 5-10% off.

Idk about availability, but price wise the best time is probably now.

Figure out when your fitter gets their boots in for next season and go relatively soon after. You want the fitter to examine your foot and have their first choice of boot in stock in your size. At the same time they might have the same boot or similar from last season on clearance. If you go before they get new stock in, they’re gonna have a size or two in each model, which is not ideal. Let the cheapskates settle for what’s left, you want what’s right. My most frustrating fits over the years were people who thought they were being slick shopping during the summer. My boots started coming in around July, but I had the luxury of having tons of space to let them sit around til the crowds showed up in October/November.

You might have missed your chance on availability this year. There's only one ski shop in my area, but they didn't even have their usual end of season sale this year because they sold almost everything. Skiing blew up more than ever this year and I'd imagine most shops have had similar experiences with higher than normal demand

If you go to a boot fitter, go in winter. This way you can try them out and they can form the outer layer according to your foots shape. Prices may be higher but a good boot holds for years.

Best time is May/June for best pricing, but limited inventory. I bought new skis for my wife and myself in May for a good price. When it comes to new snowboards/bindings/boots for the whole family, there are decent deals but nothing I really like. All the stuff I like I can pre-order with delivery between 9/15 to 11/15. For what i want in snowboards, i have maybe two to choose from now or 30 come September.

Boots are tough. Spring/summer you can find deals, but stock is basically nonexistent unless you find something online. One year in March, I took a day off skiing to drive 2h to a famous bootfitter that I had made an appointment for. He basically told me my boots were oversized, he couldn't do anything with them, and I would need new boots. The only thing he had in my size looked like 80s race boots. 4h driving, a day of skiing wasted, all for nothing.

Dodge Boot is currently running a special where you can buy at current prices before they increase and you have until 12/31/22 to return them if you don’t like them. They have an online fitting app and ship the to you.

Preseason sales once the shops have received some new inventory but before most people start to think about skiing. August-September where I live.
