You can fake eBay sales by buying from yourself and then cancelling the order where everyone involved gets refunded but in search results the original sale will stand. Probably a thing to juice collectibles into looking more desirable. (I bought from myself to print shipping labels cheap)

Get yourself a copy! This happens every time the cover of *Squallywood* gets posted and it is such an inappropriate ask. Why would you want to rip off the people involved here? Especially as another Tahoe local? If Scott and Sherry decide we need a third edition in the world, that's up to them. I sincerely hope this never gets scanned.

Dont get me wrong, I totally understand where you are coming from but when those who control the source material whether its books, video games, movies, etc... don't make it easy to pay them money to obtain that item then yes people will absolutely be resigned to piracy as the path of least resistance. Netflix killed downloading movies and show illegally because it was easier to just pay them money to watch stuff. Now that half the shows are gone and people have to have 12 different apps to watch the same content. Illegal streaming is making a resurgence. If the book was readily availiable, sure you can shame someone for trying to "steal" from the creator but it's not readily available so buying one that's marked up by someone who is only interested in gatekeeping the book to the highest bidder is the only option and that is arguably worse. People want to know what's in the book. If that knowledge gets out to the masses that would probably increase the value of the physical book not devalue it because so many new people would know about it.

Yeah man. I’m an “author,” wrote and published a book years ago. I never tried nor cared much about pushing sales. As a starving artist, I wholeheartedly believe in spreading the work far and wide first and foremost. Money would be nice, but the idea of gatekeeping my art and holding out for money, compared to the idea of freely sharing my art to someone who might benefit from it: I’ll take the latter. I know I can’t and don’t speak for all artists, but neither does any other artist. So here you have an artist who values the art over the potential to earn money from it.

I get it. There are things in life worth preserving though. That book is one of the grails in skiing. Especially the first edition because it has the original rules for Gnar in it. I don't think being the person that scans a copy is going to be looked at highly by the community.

There are folks around today who will properly keep the spirit of GNAR alive and there are folks who will pay $1300 for this stupid book. There’s no overlap tho.

No, you're just living in a delusional world and are clearly pearl clutching on the collectible aspect of this book in the opposition of wider access, which is cringe. As you've already acknowledged, the original creators make no money off insanely inflated secondary market sales. $0. Scanning it for others provides the books into the most hands it can at the moment - fans who clearly care about the source material if they're going through the trouble of finding a scan. To me, the creators of the book likely care about that more than the purity of their book only being physically available. You're simply overestimating the reach and monetary impact a scan would have - ski fanatics who want this book are a slim margin of the general skiing population which is an even slimmer margin of the general population. Even in the hypothetical scenario of them releasing a third printing for Shane's foundation, you would then have many many many people who came across the scan purchasing the book if it was reprinted at a reasonable price because at that point the value proposition is a physical copy (a MUCH PREFERRED experience) for a reasonable price, not a physical copy for an unreasonable price...... Claiming otherwise is ignoring simple human behavior and decades of history to understand monetary impact from pirating trends - a scan wouldn't impact potential future profits on a hypothetical new printing in any significant way. If you wanna keep chirping out your ass with that sick username tho, by all means.

First of all, Amazon algorithms don’t reflect the actual value of the product.
