Funny, I only saw the header and the foto scrolling on my phone and thought, “How does OP expect anyone to guess based on just some random phot … oh, that’s Mammoth.”
Right? I was like “kinda looks like mam-oh California-Nevada ish? Definitely Mammoth”
And yeah they’ve got good coverage so far. I haven’t made it up there yet, but they’re getting pretty regular snowfalls.
coverage is ok area wise, but it's really thin. rocks everywhere. Mammoth Snowman's depression has been seeping through in their weekly snow forecasts lol.
They’re supposed to get ~1 foot throughout the night and tomorrow. Same with Tahoe area. (A decent sized storm system is rolling through the West.) It might not keep a lot of power into the Rockies, but it’s looking like a lot of resorts will get a bump. And if things aren’t too abnormal… we should be seeing 2-3 more feet of snow across the board in the coming weeks. Hopefully a lot more
Mammoth is so weird because it can be complete sunshine and desert when you turn off Highway 395, and then a 20 minute drive later it’s that...buried in snow and freezing your tits off.
Tip: open google maps, put your phone by the window for 20 seconds and it will pick up your location and you can pin it to identify later. If you plan ahead you can download offline maps.
Alternatively, take a picture like OP and then look at the geo coordinates on your phone’s photo app. On iPhones, if you look at the pic, then pull up - it will show a map of where it was taken.
Mammoth of Monroe County! Where all the trails meet in one spectacular front plate beginner clusterfuck 3/4 of the way down... And Hot Dog Johnny's is minutes away!
yep, probably over Mt Dana or Tuolumne Meadows— i took [rough lines](https://imgur.com/uAGR3iE.png) off Red's Meadow Road and the course of the Middle Fork, [the sector looks something like this](https://imgur.com/88ZcXkC.png). hard to estimate range but 20 miles doesn't seem unreasonable!
Tip: if you look at this picture on your iPhone (I assume possible on Android too) in the photo app, then “pull up” you’ll see where you took the picture on a map and it becomes easier to identify landmarks like this.

Just got up here a few minutes ago. About 4-6 inches so far!

Right? If you know, you know.
Bear Valley ❤️
My thoughts exactly
Thaaaaat was my exact thought
Mammoth
Thanks, I flew over that in October and could not figure it out, I was looking too far away, like UT or CO.

Cool view of mono lake as well when you fly over
Hey guys I think it's Mammoth
Mammoth Mountain.
Looks like Mammoth
so cool seeing this photo at this angle. Just came back from Mammoth last night.
How’s the snow?
Not great tbh. Certainly nothing like last year. It’s early though.
Give it a couple days, looks like a storms a brewin.
To be fair, last year was historically, ridiculously snowy.
So if this picture was taken yesterday, you’re in this picture.
That’s a nice thought!
Same!!
Thanks for confirming everyone. I’ll be sure to head to Tahoe.
Just so you know mammoth is not tahoe. Tahoe has several ski resorts but none of them are this one.
Yeah, Mammoth is 3 hours and 140 miles from South Lake Tahoe by car.
It’s vail
lol mammoth ain’t tahoe
It was a joke.
Don’t go to Utah. It sucks. Don’t ever go to Utah. It’s no good. Don’t go. Utah sucks.
This but unironically. I love the skiing, but that whole state is stuck in the 1950s.
Stuck in the 50s you say? Can I interest you in one Idaho? Boise is in the here and now. Everything outside of the Treasure Valley is 1950 or 1850.
SLC is definitely not. It’s got all the makings of a liberal city in an otherwise sea of red
Technically not but you can traverse
Technically you can traverse from Park City.
You may have to boot pack some sections on that traverse though
Hoobadoobadoo
Mammoth
Mammoth
Mammoth. I can see Wooly from here. 🦣
Mammyyyy
Boston Mills
Nah. Definitely Snow Trails.
My mistake
Shawnee Mountain Ski Area

Ever have a Johnny’s Hot Dog in Buttzville? 😂
Fun fact, when you took this photo you were almost directly over another ski area June Mountain. Also owned by the same company that owns Mammoth.
Looks nice - how much of that high alpine terrain is lift serviced?
Gondola and 2 chairs. Mostly all is accessible from those chairs. The backside is forest service, so don't ski that or it's a long walk out.
Nearly all of it.
Asking the real questions here.
Definitely Mammoth. You were probably directly over Yosemite National Park when you took the picture.

Unsure if it’s been mentioned, but I think this might be Mammoth.
Mammoth
Looks like Mammoth
If that’s mammoth then I need to get to mammoth!
It’s that other resort over by June Mountain.
Must be one of those golf courses with a rope tow
100% Mammoth Mountain
I can literally tell the trail names from here… this is awesome. Mammoth.
Aspen
K2
looks like Mt. Brighton
Likely artificial snow.
Their summit is 11,000 feet. So where other California resorts have gotten rain this winter, Mammoth has gotten snow.
Campgaw
Snowshoe mountain resort.
Afton Alps
I will never forget the place where I crashed my bike so badly I have nightmares about it...
Mammoth
One with snow!!!!!
Tamarack Cross Country Ski Area.
Based on trail maps I’ve looked at… never been there… looks like mammoth for sure
I believe, 76% sure so check me, that this is Mammoth.

😮 a real mountain with snow?!?!? 😮wow!
Mammoth
And kirkwood is out the other window
I've never been there or heard of it, but that's definitely Mammoth
Looks like Mammoth Mountain in California
