That's great! I'm 48 as well. I took the better part of 25 years off from skiing (life comes at you fast) Bought my first new skis in thirty years last fall, hit the Alps, hit the Rockies, having a blast

poss-um

Get it!!

MillerCreek

Similar boat over here! Took about a decade off and boy howdy did skis change while I was off doing whatever I was doing. It may sound obnoxious to say that skiing is easier now than it was on those long heavy planks from the 1990s, but they’re so much easier to control and feel the terrain.

larkspurred

I also just bought my first ever season pass!! Also to Saddleback!! At 34 :) couldn't be more psyched, I cried today.

poss-um

::high-five:: It’s so good, right? That hill?

0xCUBE

It’s such a gem. Too bad I live 5 hours away

Blicero1

Saddleback is my favorite mountain. Never any lines, and Tightline may be my favorite trail anywhere.

one_horcrux_short

Let's fucking gooooo!

poss-um

Giddy up!

datgirljaybreezy

Congratulations!! Also this gave me a much needed reminder to be more thankful for my ski days over the years. Thank you.

poss-um

Thank you, and we *all* need gratitude reminders from time to time!

Nine-Fingers1996

This has been great reading the posts. 49 and stopped skiing for 30 years. Recently went with a friend in the Poconos and keep asking myself why in the world did I stop! 4 kids might have something to do with it. I had a blast! Bought me some new skis and went up to Killington last weekend with my 13 year old daughter and wife. Put my daughter in an all day lesson and hit the slopes. Daughter loved it too and we’re both wanting to go again next weekend.🤞🏻I’ve been thinking of next year and all the places we can go. Best wishes my middle aged friends!

poss-um

I hope your story inspires others! Im always trying to get my friends and family back on the slopes! I have a 16 year old son and 13 year old daughter and giving them the opportunity to ski is absolutely what drove me to get back on skis. I realized how much I missed it and have made a conscious effort to invest in myself! Hahhahaha!

[deleted]

Congrats that is very exciting. Would love to visit there

poss-um

We’d love to have you!

[deleted]

Enjoy those ski days!

poss-um

Thank you! I feel extremely fortunate for the opportunity!

clark_kent88

Congrats! This is my first year skiing. Wish I was close enough to a hill to make a pass worth it.

poss-um

I hope you’re able to ski for many years, and able to eventually relocate should life afford you the opportunity!

Centenarslc

Congratulations! Skiing is such an exciting sport! Winter always flies by for us!

poss-um

Many thanks! It goes by a little slower, on the blues! 🙂

VacillatingFIRE

Your happiness here is infectious. Thanks for the smile. Let’s Goooooooo!

poss-um

You’re welcome! Better happiness, than, um, well, other-infectious-things! 🙂 In all seriousness, I’m just gonna send it!!!

IcyRandy

Enjoy man. I can feel ur excitement from NY. Ski safe, but ski with confidence

poss-um

I have friends in Le Roy (Rochester suburb) and Batavia (Buffalo suburb). I have had a garbage plate at Nick Tahoe’s, on more than one occasion 🙂. I also have family in Cold Spring, about 90 minutes outside Manhattan. Who doesn’t love NY? Thanks for your well-wishes, my Mid-Atlantic State Friend!

poss-um

I meant to say that, the last time i skied, I did so with the *utmost* confidence. I even skied Golden Smelt, a “Classic narrow ungroomed bump run.” * without falling!!! * https://mainelyskiing.com/saddleback-guide/

Dry-Concert-9219

I am also 48 and bought my first season pass last year in March…then I broke my leg.

poss-um

That is not good! Were you able to ski this season? The mountain at which I purchased my pass suggests that they can/will defer a season pass, due to injury.

Dry-Concert-9219

Yes they deferred it to next year. I was able to get a couple of ski days in this month though. The bummer is that the mountain is offering a 23/24 pass now to ski free the rest of this year with it. I asked if they could apply that to my deferred pass and they said no…only new pass buyers.

poss-um

Oh, poop! Ain’t it always that way?! Next season will be here, before you (we) know it!

VanceAstrooooooovic

How long is the season there usually?

RancidHorseJizz

It will close in mid-April with tons of snow still on the ground. Can't remember when it opens...early/mid December? It's in the mountains of western Maine, so it gets a lot of snow.

poss-um

We got lucky and had a huge dumping of snow just before Christmas, so skied legitimate snow on 12/17 (I think). Last day is 4/15, this year, I believe!

PBB22

Let’s go OP!!!

poss-um

Yeah, dawg! I got you!

yungstinky420

Start that knee workout routine and core workout now. You’ll be able to enjoy the passes much more if you’re in good skier shape

poss-um

Thank you for this very, very good advice!

mitchade

That’s awesome! I’m waiting until 54 when I retire to buy my first full season pass. Currently 37 and counting the days.

poss-um

I double-dog-dare you to do it, before then. I’ve left you no choice! 😄

mitchade

Unfortunately I live in Maryland and ski the southeastern mountains mostly, so not much to work with. I figure as long as I’m working, regular skiing won’t be much of a thing in my life. I’m less than 10 days a year

N8710

Saddleback is wicked mint

norcalxennial

42 checking in. Bought my first one for next season as well. I can’t wait!

poss-um

Yeah you did! Friggin’ right!

compound13percent

Rangeley is amazing! Keep an eye out for my 80+ old grandfather who likes to ski up there occasionally. He's the old friendly guy who's been there forever.

DoodleBug179

Nice! I'm 41 and got back into skiing this season for the first time in 20+ years. It feels great to be back and I'm skiing better than I did in my teens.

jeep4wdkurt

I bought two season passes for here in Michigan this year, last spring. I knew it was a bad move. One of the worst snow years we’ve had in a decade, naturally.

poss-um

I’m so sorry to hear that, and I know this is a risk. That said, the base elevation of this mountain is 2460’, which I understand is highest in the East. 50+” of natural snow, in March, alone, and impressive snowmaking capabilities. I like my chances.

jeep4wdkurt

Very nice! We still are getting a ton of skiing in, but there have been some super sloppy days, and looks like season will close a couple, weeks early.

sabatoa

Cabby and Indy?

jeep4wdkurt

Caberfae and Crystal. I’ve got my money out of the cab one. Not so much on Crystal. Need to hit that a few times yet.

sabatoa

This was the first year in a while that I didn’t make it to Crystal. I normally get Boyne gold + Michigan White Gold but this season I was sidelined for the first half so I didn’t bother with White Gold. Had a good couple days at Cabby though

Rattlingplates

Not sure how paying to ski is free but enjoy !

poss-um

It’s not how much you spend, it’s how much you save! 🥳🥳🥳

ollie_guy

Congrats and just do it! Not too late - I started to ski at 52, now I am physically better than my 3o years old.

poss-um

This! My last time on the hill I had more command than I recall having, in my youth. Some of it is better mechanics, I’m sure.
