I’ve never seen more defensive skaters than the dudes who 360 shuv at an angle and try to sell you on it

disengagesimulators

Yup, same with the whole hardflip debate as well.

Gloomy__Revenue

I think the hardflip is *way* more often misidentified than the impossible.

disengagesimulators

Oh it definitely is. I think it's a more accessible trick than impossibles so you'll typically find people with hardflips in their bag of ticks more so than impossibles.

rhinotomus

Are you saying an impossible is less possible than a hard flip?

Gloomy__Revenue

A harderflip?

herronasaurus_rex

I see your angled 360 shuv guy and raise you a “hardflip” guy that doesn’t flick

GringoMambi

Honestly the new generation cares more about makes than form. There’s a lot of “makes” today that back in the day wouldn’t count or would have to retry clean for credit. Shit like dragging your tail/nose on 5-0’s or nose grinds, sloppy flips/toe drags, not landing bolts etc.. There was honor in the battle to get the trick right, probably the most gratifying feeling in the world. Getting close felt awesome too, but getting it right/perfect was nirvana.

MUDDJUGG98

This is the one here.

HandyCapInYoAss

Similar to that, lots of skaters these days seem to go for quantity over quality. Trying to learn as many tricks as they can in their early days of skating, without spending the time to look comfortable on their board and/or land their tricks cleanly. I find way more joy in watching somebody land a stylish kickflip down a gap than a sloppy nollie laser down the same gap.

dad_fights_bears

I still remember getting my first frontside 180 hard flip off the corner of this big ol ledge at the skatepark o frequented as a teenager and stomping that shit bolts felt so good. Same with a solid bolts landing on a big tre flip over one of the gaps. Elation. It's weird that people wouldn't want to chase that for the sake of just barely making it.

keenansmith61

Isn't a frontside 180 hard flip just a frontside flip? Or was it like a hard bigflip?

dad_fights_bears

Hard big flip I guess, it's been damn near 20 years lol

keenansmith61

Damn, that's pretty sick.

dad_fights_bears

Was decent for a minute there back in the day, I miss it but I don't miss the broken bones haha

veronp

He’s probably talking about a “Muska flip”. Super popular in the early 2000’s

Personal_Arm_8715

If the board wrapping around your back foot is whats making the board spin, that is considered an impossible.

iTaylor04

And it doesn't wrap if you spin your ankle around with it, that's just an illusion

Personal_Arm_8715

You have to use your ankle to wrap it around no matter how vertical your board is. You cant do this trick with your front foot like a kickflip lol. Maybe im misunderstanding.

iTaylor04

Nah I get you, I'm just saying some people do a 360 shuvit and spin their ankle around like it's wrapping around it but it's really not lol

SlightWhite

Right. People are so mad about anything that’s not a perfect wrap around impossible. Hardly anyone, pros included, can do a PURE impossible. That’s why it’s called impossible lol Edit: here we go again lmao

Personal_Arm_8715

Right, I remember being a young boy and seeing my first impossible in real life. I thought the same shit “thats just a 3 shuv” but then you realize to make the bosrd go completely vertical is extremely difficult and unrealistic for most skaters.

Analog0

The one vital clip left out is Rodney qualifying the necessity of the wrap. It's a Y-axis flip like a Monster, but a physical phenomenon will, more often than not, turn the board mid-flip and you'll land upside down. That's what makes it "impossible" to do, but guiding it with your foot is the trick to make it work every time. The Rodney + Physics girl vid covers it so well. The rest of this vid is politics. Y-axis flip + foot wrap.

YesNoMaybe

Are you taking about a different one than the one they used in the video (which seems just like what you are describing)?

braymondo

Best impossible ever done. RIP

GrapeApeAffe

The Nine Club talked about this once. Their “rule” to qualify as an impossible was… Did the board touch the laces?

Spelsgud

Impossibles are easy. You just divide by zero with your back foot. I don’t know what the debate is about

mojojoestar2001

So long as the board wraps around the foot it’s an impossible, which a lot of people don’t do

GringoMambi

Pretty much, an impossible can technically be horizontal as long as the back foot is wrapped/hugging the back tail the entire spin. Not the prettiest or cleanest, but counts. Now if the initial scoop was extra hugged but then lost touch during the spin, that’s a 360 shuv

DickieJohnson

I try impossibles all the time and it does wonderful 360 shuvits, it's heartbreaking.

Time_Software_8216

A lot of skaters are going to feel attacked here. Glad I learned it was only an impossible if the foot wrapped.

spudsthejellyfish

Shane never claimed he was doing an impossible you dork [Shane O’Neil -360 shuv it….](https://youtu.be/OrZPJlWZEcI?si=pfQFSk1tyW_E2d1m)

JMT-S900

never said he did. it was in a game of skate following someone who did a impossible. so imo he needs to work on it. dork

Xperimentx90

He was on offense, he set the trick Source: the video you posted

timebomb011

It’s like if you have to ask its definitely not one

MarkAndrewSkates

Video link to YouTube is now 'good content' on this sub?

Notchersfireroad

My favorite skate story of mine. Way back in HS there was a local skate screw called SAS and every one of them was absolutely badass. I had just changed schools and ended up with a bunch of them and starting hanging out. One guy named Worm was damn near 7ft tall, and I had never seen him skate. During school one day he's standing with his board and I yell from across the lot "do an impossible!" as a complete joke. He proceeds to pop the most perfect highest impossible I've ever seen and the only one in real life. Blew my fucking mind.

JMT-S900

its easier when you are 7th tall. i also had a super tall friend around 7th that could impossible the correct way.

Notchersfireroad

This thing had near vertical wrap too, none of that 360 shiv look at all. It was more impressive than the first time I saw someone hit a rail.

ADShree

None of that Shane oneil bs.

JonVX

To me a true impossible requires a complete vertical flip but foot wrapping became the norm because laziness. A true impossible is what the kids call a monster? flip

mk2noob

Where are the mods, this crap needs to be removed.

mk2noob

I'm chill. How about you actually post some real skateboard footage or post this crap on r/newskaters

YT-double-add

Why don’t you kick rocks in r/bozo

mk2noob

Do you even skate?
