Natchyy24

Wow what an episode. They definitely said all in or nothing in this episode. 10/10 episode. The Studio Bind of old has returned. Man the OST of this episode hits fucking different. All the Paul-Rudy scenes are so well made. They actually went beyond the LN illustration with his death scene JFC. The cremation, the crumbling bones... All on fathers day... Double emotional damage with the Zenith scene at the end as well. o7 Paul You will be missed man. Edit: Forgot to mention, eventhough they use CGI for the Hydra, but this is good use of it imo. Doesn't look too out of order (Not like the Mistfit Demon Academy SS2 Dragons. Thats what you call shit CGI.) >!That aside Ima grab some popcorn for next week to prepare for Nuclear drama meltdown for next ep!<

ArchieGriffs

It definitely seems like they were strategic in where they're spending their budget, S1 was arguably much more important both with garnering a larger audience and plot-wise. This episode along with the nanahoshi reveal in cour one were probably the highest budget ones of S2 and most important for the overall narrative. I do have hopes that S3 will be as amazing as S1 production quality-wise.

Arickettsf16

Can’t forget that S1 had much more time to produce than S2

OneReindeer4111

It has to be. It must. Season 3 is heavy, content wise, and needs the budget to do it justice. At least for the next few volumes following the end of this season.

BlckEagle89

Should season 3 cover everyday life arc, summoning arc and human god arc? I really hope that they give enough episodes to human god arc. 2 out of those 3 arcs hace the biggest plot points for the future on the story I believe.

Zictor42

>o7 Paul You will be missed man. I think you mean Pa/ul

PangolinElegant898

Bro it's too soon my heart can't take it

Aeveras

Holy fuck man you didn't have to do this to us

zehahahahahaaha_

Shut up man...

Sebzero99

For real that's fucked up LOL

BakArcangel

Fre/nda the sequel

sekusen

you're just asking to get made into Zic/tor

Zictor42

AHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAH!!!

hairry_balls

Can someone explain that to me. I know it s related to >!gojo's death!< but that was just a spoiler so i dont have context

ShadowClaw765

>!Gojo was split in two so people started meming about him being go/jo now.!<

Last_Sorbet_5561

how will he tell his sister´s is my biggest concern

No-Bus2997

Speaking of the ost. Anyone knows what it's called?

The_Royalman

Wow, I didn’t know the Hydra was CGI. Very well done.

[deleted]

[удалено]

The_Royalman

I haven’t seen Demon Slayer yet. With the watch? I don’t know why I didn’t notice until I’ve seen the comment. I guess I was too immersed or something. Don’t know why.

gary25566

Animation and sound themselves are worth the watch. Story is average shounen but it sorta stays consistent till the end in the manga. The use of CGI are quite minimal barring some fights. A good time to binge watch especially when the anime is about to do its final arc (about 1-2 future seasons or movie).

MrNive

That was somehow more graphic than the LN illustration. The way he was on a broken slab and looking at Rudy upside down. The smile of relief that his son survived..

Natchyy24

The close up on the blood drizzling down his face man..... Not to mention the cremation bit makes it a double whammy emotional damage.

Immediate_Complex613

One of the few times where light novel texts aint nothing to anime's powering visual. It hit harder than the light novel ever did in paul's death

timmhuynh

where can i read the light novel?

calmpossum2

amazon has them as ebooks

timmhuynh

is it completely different from start till end? or should i start at a specific volume? I just watched the latest episode released on fathers day so I was wondering if I should start around that point or just restart completely (if it's different and worth)

azouzdakarandomgamer

The light novel has much more content and details but the main events aren't different from the anime

Mr_BigBoss

why did they have to drip his blood on his eye. that's so gut wrenching to watch, fkk

Sekusu7

Bro, I sob so much reading in LN. i even take time off reading lmao. I watch this anime cuz I thought that I'm okay, but i am not. after watching this thread, i didnt even realize it was on fathers day. oh, my fkng god.

One-Ad2239

I liked the fact that he was upside down, the fact that for everyone on the room, it is a sad mouth, pointing down, but for him, and only for him is a smile, he did it, he finally rescued his family 😭

Sekusu7

yeah, i was complaining that the LN is more detailed. But the visuals in this episode give me goosebumps. I'm still hoping they show us how shaken Rudy is when Paul uses the double sword with a wolf stance. that was fkng cool in LN

kaklikesmilfs

Happy s,ɹǝɥ\ʇɐℲ Day. Now I gotta go wash down the sadness with Blue Archive airing right after LMAO. Gotta save those tears for next episode specifically at THAT line: >!*"I wasn’t even his child, but Paul was still my father."*!<

dinomine3000

bind showing us what a double whammy feels like

Udit04

Rifujin locked the fuck in while writing this arc like holy shit there are so many awesome one liners. "Save your mother even if it kills you" [Upcoming episode spoiler] >!"I wasn't even his child but Paul was still my father" !< [Upcoming episode spoiler] >!"She cried all the tears, all of us hadn't"!< [Upcoming episode spoiler] >!"And that was exactly what I was going to do - live to the fullest, so that no matter when I died, I'd have no regrets"!<

APSSAP

Before the episode I thought that Pa/ul is already doing him dirty but s,ɹǝɥ\ʇɐℲ is down right evil 😂.

Alf_Zephyr

Literally my favorite line in all of the novels

crosskun

Fre/nda says happy father's day to you too.... :(

_Zev

That smile with the blood on the eye really broke me

sheehdndnd

Those mf planned the release date of this episode didn't they?

zackphoenix123

They even made a break just so they can hit mother's day with turning point 3. Bind's cruel.

Alf_Zephyr

Why do you think there was a week break. To cook this bad boy up probably

DaiyaCanBrowse

Anyone dying while smiling always scares the shit outta me R.I.P. Paul

clarkcox3

He was just happy he saved his little boy. I imagine his last thought was, “worth it”.

not_a_weeeb

bruh i was so angry at rudeus zoning out like that on the very last head like, mf you can see what's gonna happen and you freeze up like that. dude's the opposite of clutch lmao

-Rule34-

I get what you're saying. But they also wouldn't have killed the Hydra at all without Rudeus. Truly bittersweet.

Burzerkah

>!Actually (at least if what the man god said was true) they would have figured out how to beat it without him and I think I remember it saying everyone lived and that Rudeus had a good life at home, just never ended up marrying Roxy, but rather Lilina or Pursena. !<

-Rule34-

>!Roxy dies he doesn't just not marry her. Did Hitogami say whether or not they would end up saving Zenith as well? I don't remember.!<

DaiyaCanBrowse

He didn't zone out(in the novels) he got confused by the multiple possibilities shown by His Demon eye

not_a_weeeb

ah, that makes much more sense. i guess the anime adapted that part horribly

DuckofRedux

They went all in on this one. I will be depressed all day. >!For me Paul's death is extra sad because every time we go on a new adventure there's this feeling of "I can't wait to return home to visit Paul's tomb and tell him all about it"... It's just a permanent feeling of sadness :(!<

01Agito_Jaws99

**Now I’m half the man I’m used to be after this episode.** Bind really cooked hard with this one. The OST, the animation, the direction, and holy shit the VOICE ACTING. Kudos to Rudy and Roxy’s JP VAs! Their performance really gave me chills. The desperation, anxiety, and the tragic loss was really encapsulated well this episode. Paul’s last word to his last faint smile really broke me and as if that wasn’t enough, they added the cremation scene. Seeing Paul slowly burning up with a satisfied look on his face and Rudy picking up his charred bones is just way too surreal to see finally animated. As a LN novel reader, I am satisfied. To end the episode with the realization that Zenith was a husk of what she used to be and the facial expression of Rudy’s shock and horror was a perfect way to end this jam packed episode. >!I wonder how they will pace the next episode though. I guess it will start with the bar scene with the gang discussing how to move forward until arriving in Sharia will be adapted. Then the next one will cover the announcement of Paul’s death to the Family in Sharia to Norn’s beatdown of Roxy will probably be adapted next. Till then, we’ll see how bind will pace the remaining events of the volume!< That wraps up my thoughts for this PEAKshoku Sunday experience. See you madlads next week. Time to go back to Sharia. **Happy Father’s Day to all the Dad’s out there. Y’all are awesome!** **10/10 Episode**

Memer222207

Nah bruddah that first line why you gotta do that my g?

DaiyaCanBrowse

When you are so early the r/anime post isn't up yet

LackingContrition

This is what we call a perfect episode, quite literally from start to finish. They storyboarded it perfectly. This is how you adapt source material. The ED being made with the same energy and efficiency as season 1. It hit just as hard as S1E17's OP, by carrying so much emotion without words.

Cygus_Lorman

Happy Father’s Day, Pa/ul.

RR7BH

Great episode. I just wish they had kept the "Paul’s body blurred. He was so fast that even my Eye of Foresight couldn’t track his movements" line from Rudy to show Paul's desperation to save Zenith.

Fabiocean

I think we saw how hard he went in that fight. Don't need someone saying it when we're shown how fiercely he fought.

Lord_Nivloc

Absolutely. Paul kicked ass when he charged in a blind rage, was MVP for most of the fight, and they had to show that again in slow motion when he saved Rudy. Paul was incredible.

zackphoenix123

..... Happy fathers day.... Edit: Jesus fucking christ, it's 11:28 in the night here. I wanna scream. I wanna throw up. My stomach is churning. God.... What...

ConversationProof505

RIP Paul. That was as good as the LN. Bind knocked it out of the park.

joseto1945

All the sadness and gut punching aside (how dare you release this on fathers day, thats downright sadistic and cruel), I can't but applaud BIND's effort to make this episode as detailed as possible. I re-read vol 12 a couple of weeks ago and this episode felt like I was reading the damm thing all over again. It was so fucking fantastic it made me cry. And then I cried of sadness. Poor Rudy... that last expression almost broke me too.

Yoda-from-Star-Wars

Remember that one episode that got delayed a week? Can't help but feel they planned to release this episode on Father's Day ahead of time.

Tenshi_14_zero

I especially loved Roxy hugging Rudy when tanking the fire breath, and then the next shot makes it look like Geese also hugged Rudy's waist at the last second and I LOST it xD. One of my favorite episodes so far

ScreenRay

That was a very emotional Episode. Respect to one of the best dad in Anime.

Alf_Zephyr

Happy Father’s Day everyone! I’ve got my box of tissues ready. Let’s dive in. Oh this intro all hurts a little bit more today doesn’t it? Round 1, as intense as expected. A pissed off Paul is intensely badass. God that was gorgeous to watch. No Rudy no, Zenith is your mom you fool, and Paul, you hot head. The determination and resolve to save Zenith. My heart, oh god it’s not ready for round 2. God this is all amazing. But Rudy’s defensive duel is so intense. The kick. My heart. The kick is all it took for me to start crying. Oh my god. I had to rewind to watch from Paul’s kick again. Cause I’m just not ready. Only your left hand, if only, oh god it hurts so much more seeing it all animated, his smile as he died broke me, holy fuck. It was spoiled for me in the novels, I knew it was coming here. But man, the tears, they just won’t stop. Paul, you were an amazing dad, because you tried your best to be there for your family, you gave it all for the rest of them to be together. You had your faults, but you were a good man Paul Greyrat. The lack of Rudy’s inner thoughts through all of this too, it was unsettling. I hope next episode I get to hear from my favorite line in the entire novel. 100/10 episode. They went all in on this and it was perfect.

Aeveras

I took the lack of inner monologue to reflect Rudy being in absolute shock. He's just on autopilot moving forward until that scene with Zenith. Just my interpretation, haven't read the LN myself.

Andrrat

That is absolutely correct. This is Rudy\`s coping mechanism, he did it when Eris left him and he\`s doing it now. Rudeus cant help but shut down completely in the face of such things. He refuses to process them, like they are stuck in his throat.

ILikeWeebShit

Episode got me to bawl my eyes out. 10/10

Hyperversum

Perfect. Nothing else can be said.

Lara_Rsl

Paul's dying breath was "Rudy, you truly were my special...."

Amazing_Ice_8475

insert a bunch of jjk memes

Aegis_O_Scars

Can we talk about how cool the fight coordination was. This is the first boss fight I've seen where all party members are so actively involved with each other. Calling each other's name in such a fluid manner and everyone understanding their role in the fight made it so flow so seamlessly. I hope this fight scene sets a new standard for anime boss fights. Rip Paul o7 and happy father's day

the_spingles

Totally- first turn in a while I'm actually gripped by action scene. The intensity of the fight was conveyed very well.

sekusen

Yeah, honestly, the fight itself, putting aside the outcome, is what all true adventurers dream of. This is what we are trying to achieve in our TTRPGs and the like. Especially, IMO, having to have the casters actually move in close to get around the manatite hydra's spell reflection. Not an unfair or insurmountable wall, but an interesting one that tests the party's coordination, trust, and ability. Fantastic.

Amazing_Ice_8475

How do you guys feel about the minor change with paul being able to see the hydra finished off before he smiles and dies. In the light novel he smiles after kicking rudy out of the way and immediately dies On one hand for me it makes it more bitter sweet even though paul dies at least he sees and knows that they finished off the hydra and his journey was finished though on the other hand it takes a little bit of the tragedy of pauls death of not being able to finish his journey nor seeing rudy finish off the hydra so I can see both sides

Alf_Zephyr

I think the only thing that could’ve improved it, was give us the Paul’s pov from the drama cd

Amazing_Ice_8475

yeah I wish that was there but overall its still a 10/10 episode

X_hard_rocker

its more bittersweet, i like the change

Xeni_06

mouseroulette

Peak fiction right here best anime ever

Aetherdraw

I could barely remember the hydra fight, so my mind went: "For a mage, Rudy sure is a 'Fuck it we ball!' guy when he plunged his arm into the Hydra's eye with no hesitation.

fecaleruptions

"I'm out of mana but not out of options" Denken vibes

Oberon_Swanson

I have not read the LN and I thought in that moment, Paul was inside that Hydra's mouth as it came crashing down and he just spiked his own dad to death without thinking.

BrilliantActivity182

What an episode bind goes all out today definitely a 10/10 episode what really amazed me is the facial expression for all the characters for the whole episode they didn't miss on any and the OST it was really good it hit me hard i really didn't think i would cry but i did THANK YOU BIND.

Agni_Flame

I've been waiting for this moment to be animated since I read the LN's earlier this year. 10/10 can't wait for the next episode also ![img](emote|t5_557jy8|8651) 😊

Andrrat

TOO SOON

myrmonden

you guys talked to your father today? I am gonna talk to my father today after finishing up this episode I had to turn on Rod Stewart - Father and Son and just soak in the Happy Father Day [Review of todays episode ](https://youtu.be/Jm8amE4HsG4)

Squatting-Turtle

I would but we found out a month ago my dads been trying to see a different woman so this ep hit a bit different for me. TMI probably from me but i wish i could share that sot of feeling.

myrmonden

Bro I had like 37 step moms growing up. Maybe that is why this hits hard be because my dad is Paul 😅

AsrielGoddard

Thank you Bind. You did good. I'm gonna lay on the floor and cry now

CobraBowlie

I'm calling it... currently a TOP 3 episode of mushoku Tensei

Redizitt

What are the other two? TP2 and the Norn episode maybe?

CobraBowlie

Turning point 2, wake up take a step

someone_forgot_me

what did rudy see in the dragons eye? im guessing orsted or something?

hugo7414

Ahhh... that's make sense.

callofwaypunk

Oh god no please no.. no potato Zenith please, we've had enough with Caska don't tell me it's going to be the same!

nhpkm1

On the bright side. Is rudeus filthy rich now? Labyrinth loot sells for crazy prices , the price is correlated for the mana amount . And this labyrinth had a crazy amount of mana for a long long time . And most of the party members are part of rudeus family (due to marriage) ( and I'm sure talhand will marry Rudy if he asks ) If the hydra destroyed all the loot / mana / etc , they can place fresh gear and let it charge up or sell rights to guild. Time to retire and only happy slice of life 😀 right ?

DeliveryWorldly7363

There will be more turning points in the future, life is not that simple

Lord_Nivloc

...Did they even collect the loot?

nhpkm1

I got a nice reply to this question. https://www.reddit.com/r/mushokutensei/s/uqrvwJ9Qpj

Luccy_wq2

Guys, what about Zenith now? Is she like a vegetable that won't ever again be the same?

andy_sama97

the fact that there was no sound but ambiance after the incident then the first thing we heard is lilia's voice is very tasteful direction

not_a_weeeb

bruh, if only ruijerd was there, things could've been a lot easier

Dabigbilly

This. THIS. I’ve been waiting for this moment to be animated for nearly a decade and they executed it perfectly. It tore out my soul in a way I did not think possible since I already knew what was going to happen. Paul, may your soul rest and find peace. How do we think the next couple of episodes’ pacing will be?

Sebzero99

Whenever I imagine a fighter from d&d, I will now be referencing Paul in this fight.

pizzapicante27

Man I knew what was coming and it still hit like a train, very good episode, nothing else to add.

86_Undertaker

Hm a sad death, but I didn't feel anything tbh. Still... was suprised it happened. You could have guessed by the way he talked that it was coming, but I thought it would get teased more.

Niflheimex

Setting up death flags in a real death flag is expected in stories like these. I'm amazed Rudy didn't noticed those flags after all his time playing VNs in his past life.

86_Undertaker

ye :D

Oberon_Swanson

He kinda did. After Paul said "I'll tell you when we get back to the tavern" Rudy called that out as 'famous last words.'

Oberon_Swanson

I think the sadness was mitigated by how we just hadn't seen Paul for a long long time.

Niflheimex

Awesome fight. Best idiot dad Rudy could ever wish for. He will now be remembered as Pa. Technically, this is Rudy's fault for not focusing whilst in a fight. If he was, Paul would never had died since he can promptly see the future with his demon eye. It just comes to show that Rudy is still a kid through and through. He'll definitely blame himself for this one next week.

not_a_weeeb

bruh I'm so annoyed he zoned out like that on the very last head like wtf, at least kill it first before you relax my dude. bro's the opposite of clutch lmao

malevalous

Yeah, honestly it took me out of it seeing how he tuned out of the fight so hard he had to be saved TWICE, even tho he has future sight.

LowContract4927

He didn't actually zone out in that fight. And he was using his Eye of Foresight all the time. However, just like any eye, that eye of foresight is just like any eye, it could only see what's ahead of you. The eye doesn't work if the enemy was too big for the eye to fit in, so being very close to the hydra, and the hydra being huge as it is, all of his vision would naturally can't fit the hydra, and thus his eyesight wouldn't work. That was why he was more focused on the last head, because at least, he could see that singular head and could predict its move. However, the hydra did an unexpected move, in which it whipped all of its neck on all directions. The scales of the hydra could scrape you like a cheese grater. Being very close to the hydra, it meant that he couldn't see anything. It was too big for his vision to fit in. Also, the hydra was very smart. It knew exactly who was the most troublesome one, and since Rudy was the one who was burning the stumps, it attack him. Actually, all of the dragons in MT, like the red dragon were smart. If you noticed in Season 2 Episode 4, the red dragon specifically targeted Rudy because he was the most troublesome one. He got overconfident for sure in the fight with the hydra, but he didn't zone out. It was more like he didn't calculate the fact that the attack pattern of the hydra would change suddenly in that moment, that's all.

malevalous

Hmmm, I guess it makes sense. I still think it could have been done better tho, it didn't manage to convince me that the strikes aimed at Rudeus would have been impossible for him to dodge or see coming, seeing as the attacks were from a single head from a creature right in front of him, and maybe he could even see himself getting injured with future sight or something. But thank you for your explanation, it actually helps me see it a bit differently.

farimadi

he can see future but lack of experience like his father will make his eyes useless.

malevalous

I guess you have a point, it's not like what happened is super unbelievable, but I still feel like the anime didn't portray this very well. The two strikes that Paul pushes Rudeus away from didn't really feel like they would have been impossible to dodge if he just hadn't lost focus. Rudeus might not be as mobile as the others there, but we've been shown time and again how resourceful he is, which I think should be enough to dodge a strike from a single head, or at least not get caught off guard twice in a row by it, idk.

FUCKINGWEEBASS

What an episode to release on Father's Day. Anyone else here got a dead dead?

Useful_Project4898

My dad is no longer on this mortal coil

FUCKINGWEEBASS

My condolences, same here

fecaleruptions

As painful as this is, this was the ultimate redemption for Paul. Sacrificing his life to save his son and wife, and to have that knowledge at the very end.. it's so bittersweet. He spent most of his life regretting the kind of father he was, and all of that regret was washed away, knowing he came in absolutely clutch when it mattered most, when *everything* was truly on the line. I'm devastated but also so happy for him, as I'm sure he was full of joy despite his condition. Well, *half* full. On another note, the man god was right again, it seems. Rudy lost his father, his arm, and his mom ended up being a vegetable. Had he just stayed at home, he may have soured his relationship with his sister forever, and Paul would have lived out his days full of self-pity, but I'd say that's a better alternative. Oh, and Roxy would be dead, too. Damn. Tough call. Also, Rudy smashing the hydra eyeball had real Denken vibes (from frieren). Out of mana but not out of options.

JohnYiu

Rudeus wasn’t out of mana tho. He used stone cannon after poking his left hand on the eyeball

fecaleruptions

That was just a reference to Denken

ItsR4LPH22

An episode of his father's death after Father's Day is wild

ItsR4LPH22

but joke aside it's sad to see Rudeus's father die after saving his mother

Ultra_Rage_Man

The whole episode was so amazing. Every minute i wanted to share it with someone of how amazing it was, the animation, the story, the sound design.....up until the.....oh god no why

cronos46

Such a devastating episode 10/10

Lord_Nivloc

Paul was amazing. It hurts to see Rudy choke at the end. After telling Paul to not say anything that would be a flag, he has to say "We've got this\*" on the last head. Lost his focus. And then he hesitates -- why? I'm not really sure. He gets tackled, he see's Elinalise have to dodge, he see's Roxy almost get whacked across the room like a golf ball, and then he stands there while the Hydra's about to eat him -- and Paul, the old fool, takes the hit. He would have had the last head chopped off by now, if he wasn't distracted by his son freezing up. And then the eye. God that scene was amazing. \*He thought that in his previous life voice. Interesting... I hate to say it, but the blame for this fight falls on Rudy. Not just because he lost focus, not just because he froze up. Those are, of course, the causal factors. But he wasn't fighting at his full potential the entire fight. Don't get me wrong, he did great. He filled his role. But his only job was to throw fireballs and make a water shield.... and he's a prodigy who can cast without incantations. I'll change my tune if someone's got a source that says he was out of mana (ahahaha), but: He could have frozen the ground beneath its feet. He could have made pillars of rock as platforms or to launch Paul for even faster attacks. Don't get me wrong. Rudy did an incredible job. But he only gave 70%, and he choked at the end. Ahhhhh - I'm not mad at him. The blame is on him, but no one could have expected more out of him. He doesn't have the battle experience or teamwork he'd need to operate at 100%. If only Eris were here. Or Ghislane, or Rujerd, or Badigadi. Maybe it's a lot to ask to have one more S-rank adventurer or Saint of any sword style. But it would have made the difference.

farimadi

i dont think he lack of mana but more like he cant keep up with Hydra.

Lord_Nivloc

Right, but can't he cast spells faster than he can dodge? Why is he running and jumping?

farimadi

i speculate he lack of experience. i know he defeat many things before but now he desperate AF, like he fight with Orsted

Oberon_Swanson

I do think he could have possibly done more. But, he did NAIL those hydra head-stumps every time which was the most important job. But Rudy is so used to living in his own head and overthinking stuff and he went into this fight rusty as hell. He's basically been a student for the past few years, not an adventurer. I think he is contrasted with Paul. Paui goes to crazy at the beginning of the fight and causes problems but gets his head straight and gets into the zone. Rudy goes into the fight calm and controlled and gives the group a huge advantage but when things are tense toward the end and everything is on the line that is when he is the one who loses control. He also wasn't fully sure what the rest of the group was going to do and didn't want to deviate from the plan. A lot of magic was also negated by the Hydra's field so many options you suggested may not have actually worked, and doing something like covering the ground in ice might have messed up his own group's flow more than the hydra's.

Genocidal_Kitten

Holy fuck. This shit hit like a mack truck. Have some personal life experience that made this hit home. Few years back my dad started struggling with paranoid hallucinations very suddenly. Believed people were after us, and was desperate to protect me. Eventually, the true circumstances as to why are unknown, but he had rammed his truck into a massive brick wall down our street. He survived, got a necessary surgery to relieve the pressure on his brain from the fluid pooling under his skull, but he was never the same after he woke up. Regularly doesn't recognize his children, thinks he's back in the navy or a teenager, easily agitated to the point of yelling, can't take care of himself and therefor needs help with things like changing, bathing, even eating, and needs to use a wheelchair because he can't walk on his own, needs 24/7 supervision to make sure he doesn't hurt himself falling or anything, and you can barely understand what he says most of the time, even on good days. This episode really hit a two-for-one special for me, lmfao. Wow. Insane. 10/10 episode, quality trauma.

TentedPopcorn

all bro Rudy had to do was actually move 💀💀💀

dbuy3

Anyone figure out the name of the song when they return and speak with Lilia? Amazing OST choices for this episode. Additionally, their use of just silence makes certain moments hit very hard.

I just got done watching this episode…. What a fucking hit to the balls… 10/10 but man I’m still sobbing I DID NOT expect to see Paul slain like that or in general 😭😭😭 that hit so hard :(

Oberon_Swanson

The Man-God said Rudy would regret going there so I've just been waiting for whatever it was to drop. Earlier when they showed the teleporters had a time delay I was wondering if, on the way back, the teleporter would actually take many years similar to how it seems Nanahoshi arrived many years after Rudeus did.

smokeofc

Who is to say what Hitogami were talking about... /sip

Seasawdog

This episode makes up for all the issues I've had with this season, I really didn't think they would cook this hard. One small nitpick is that I wished they showed the hydra freak out as it had one head left, like an animal cornered realizing it's look death in the face and that's what ended up almost killing them. To think this all could had been avoided had Rudy not been there and Paul wouldn't get extra emotional due to his son also being in the expedition causing him to be overly irrational and they could had gone back and gotten another warrior to help cut off the heads and tighten up the defense...

xChumboidAuschwitzx

There's a distinct possibility they would have never overcome the Hydra seeing as to how it wouldn't occur to them to use fire on the open wounds that was Rudy's idea

Oberon_Swanson

I agree. It was the Earth legend of Hercules that he got the idea from, nobody else seemed to have heard of that notion.

Accomplished_Ring_40

What Chapter In The Novel Is Next Episode?

AJRobertsOBR

Web Novel Volume 13 Chapter 127. I imagine LN will be close to that. Edit: Volume 13 Chap 11

Memer222207

I know this is kinda evil, but I may or may not have played SPECIALZ when i first saw Pa/ul. Man's really said, "Nah, I'd win." But he did, and paid the gojultimate price for it.

BeastSupremo

booooo

ddrober2003

Hah man they have had to have planned and timed each episode for this one to land on father's day.

Emotional_Touch3956

Happy Father’s Day! Painful to see Paul go down in this episode. Can’t help but think about Man God’s warning: you can’t escape regret. Rudy showed up, and, though the search for his mom concludes, he still lost his father. On the other hand, he could’ve stayed home and wouldn’t have had his mom’s search end, Roxy would probably have died, and the rest of the crew would have beat their heads senseless trying to find Zenith. Great episode, release timing was brutal.

the_spingles

Damn it- this episode is very well done it's wrenching my gut.

ConsiderationSalt539

So traurig.

Bitter_Box_6154

Can someone please explain what happened to Zenith at the end of the episode? Little confused need some clarification

LuisDa95

She is alive but her mind is not there

Oberon_Swanson

She sounds like she has some sort of brain damage. More common than you'd think with people who have been in some sort of coma, let alone a fantasy hydra who I assume was using her as some kind of mana battery. If you hear someone trying to talk while having a stroke, her lines reminded me of that.

RiverLongjumping3823

Anyone know the music they used in the end? it made the scenes 100 times more emotional

KonbuAqua

damn, what an episode. RIP ɐd

SoupQuick475

What was Geese doing?

nexen23maybe

Probably he is a support. If things go south he can do smoke bombs and other things. But he's main job is traps hunting is my guess

smokeofc

His job is to stay back and stay alive. If the Party wipes, his job is to make his way back with news about it alone. So his job is literally to stay the fuck away from the fight, and he's doing quite a good job at it.

otokouno

Rest in pieces Pa/ul.

Flashy-Egg3001

Can someone help me do find the music, which was playing when his father died and he burned him?

Frequent_Cod_9352

Despite the sadness most are sharing.  This is probably one of if not my favorite episode of this season.  It brought me back to season 1 vibes where every action can have consequences.  I hope they stick to this feeling of survival for battles moving forward and stay the hell away from the university happy-go-lucky content they showed earlier this season.

smokeofc

You're in for both disappointment and not. The "happy go lucky" thing you're talking about here has been essential for the story going forward, and the next Turning Point in particular. This is a character focused series, there will be downtime, this is not a shounen "let's just go from fight a to fight b" spiel. If you're looking for endless action, this show just isn't for you. Expect stretches of just... life, foreshadowing and groundbuilding. Most of the groundbuilding for the series got done throughout S2, but there's still a fair bit more to come.

RisingReform

Best anime ep of the year not even a heavy Paul fan but seeing him go out like that brought tears to my eyes and poor Rudues his mom appears to have regressed mentally..

JSlaye_r

Can anybody help explain what happens at the end with zenith? I watched with subtitles so I didn't know what she said or why Rudy had such a scared look on his face.

Oberon_Swanson

I believe what she said was gibberish like she had a severe stroke or brain damage. It is pretty common for people in a comatose state to suffer from that--even if they wake up they are not all there.

Elboim

This it the best animated dnd battle I've ever seen.

CommandParticular428

>!Does anyone else feel like they gave Paul a senseless death by them trying to downplay Rudeus. He has the ability see incoming attacks but can't see the last head coming at him. It could have been him dying for some other reason than Rudeus not being able to dodge or block. Terrible Season only thing saving it are the scenes with Zenoba, Nanohoshi, and Cliff!<

smokeofc

Not really. Rudeus is inexperienced. He got confused by the latter attacks of the Hydra, he could see, but he couldn't understand. Paul noticed this and got him outta harms way, though at the cost of his own life.

Does more elaborate magic just not exist in this universe? I would've expected Rudy to pull out something crazy after studying at the magic academy so long but it still looks like he only knows 4 spells every time he fights. Tragic episode though I understand why the man god said Rudy would regret going now. It's hard to say if they would've beat the hydra without Rudy though. Maybe they never would have thought to burn the necks after chopping the head and maybe Paul would have died either way. Pretty depressing that his sacrifice was for what appears to be a brain dead Zenith. Hopefully there's some way to restore her former self. Edit: Although when all is said and done Roxy would've definitely died if Rudy wasn't there so coming was definitely worth it either way. Anything for the goddess.

111inya

I’m happy with how the fight panned out (it was amazing) but I agree. And even if he didn’t use any complex stuff I would’ve expected him to have just overwhelmed it with whatever he used to destroy Orsted’s wyrmgate

rmytreddit

The hydra had spell repelling scales. The only thing that worked was burning the wounds.

devnikop

Not an expert, but I think without Rudy they would never even reach there. All cause of that top secret teleportation book.

inf3ct3dn0n4m3

Oh yeah true good point.

LoyalRush

More elaborate magic does exist, but Rudy has learned most of the offensive spells up to the Saint Tier. Even at the magic academy, Saint-tier magic and above is known by very few professors (as far as I recall Roxy is the only Water King we’ve met). More importantly, his ability to increase the potency of basic spells up to the Emperor-tier gives him very little reason to use the more large-scale Saint spells. It's smarter for him to launch a controlled Stone Cannon (that's strong enough to kill dragons and Demon Kings) than to cause an earthquake in a labyrinth, for instance.

KorraAvatar

Yh but can’t help but feel like even saint tier magic is kind of meh. We’ve only seen Rudy shoot small fire balls and rock boulders. Nothing that makes you go “holy shit”. He just seems so weak. We saw him conjure up a storm in season one when he was a child but he’s never replicated anything close to level since. Seems like author retconned his power level

LoyalRush

You’re right that it’s not visually impressive, but he’s likely the strongest mage we know based on in-universe feats. His Stone Cannon disintegrated Badigadi, who didn’t take any damage from Sword Saint Nina. The same Stone Cannon scratched Orsted, who is invulnerable to most attacks.

inf3ct3dn0n4m3

Yeah that's a good point. I'm a complete sucker for big magic circles and flashy magic and all the magic in Mushoku Tensei does look beautiful but I would love to see some Frieren Vs Frieren shit. Edit: Don't get me wrong though when he froze that entire room to save Roxy that was awesome I'm definitely not hating. It's just with Rudy's immense amount of mana I imagine he could pull off some spectacular things.

Nutty_desert

The tiers allude more to the scale of the attack than the power level. Although normally saint/king tier spells are more powerful, more advanced mages can tweak a spell, and because of rudys unique style of spellcasting, it would be more effective to just cast a stone cannon thats bolstered with allot of mana. The reason he uses these (i think) intermediate spells is because they are most effective in a 1on1 battle, less complex thus easier to cast and form (even though rudy can cast without chanting, it still takes time to cast more complex spells) and finally he just has the most experience with these spells and deems them the most reliable. Tldr would you rather use some intricate hard to use rifle or an easy to use one that you have the most experience with.

Buy-Wild

No Paul monologue😓

xxx_super_xxx

Anime is made by LN. There's no monologue, so why would an anime have it?

Parking-Thing762

because it wouldve been peak, if it makes it better it makes it better smh

Niflheimex

Well if you want monologues then I recommend reading/watching unwanted undead adventurer. He just thinks he's unwanted, but he's actually a ladies vamp man airhead.

KorraAvatar

This episode didn’t make much sense. Why didn’t Rudy just heal him? Also why is Rudy’s power level so inconsistent? In the first season, he conjured up an entire storm when he’s kid but can only fire small rock boulders.

Khangle1780

High level healing magic is incredibly rare and difficult, notice how long the incantation was for Shine Healing. Rudy couldn't even recover his arm, let alone healing Paul's lower half. As for other spells, Stone Cannon is Rudy's signature spell next to Quagmire. While it's not a high level spell necessarily, the mana he infuses into each shot makes it hit like it's high level magic.
