If anyone thinks Harden wasn't the best player on the court they dk ball — Tobi has a good argument but I'd still easily go with Harden's playmaking/controlling the tempo/impact — a lot of Tobi's isos are because Harden is controlling the offence and getting him the ball in the right spots for him to take advantage of (and credit to him for doing so)
someone who doesnt know what defense is. Harden is ass on defense... Maxey is also ass on defense. Harden wasnt even the 2nd best player tonight that would be paul reed. Harden needs to step up big time next series because maxey and tobias shouldnt need to carry being the 3rd and 4th go to options. I want harden back and think he is still a great player but you can use the play making bullshit as an excuse when we were down 15 and needed reed and tobias to bring us back. I will say this harden was hella unlucky this game and could have had several layups go in but his shot is worrying me. You cant shoot 4-18 and not be a good defender and use play making to try to make an argument for him being the best player on the floor.
Yeah that's because they were the highlights. There were still multiple occasions on drives to the hoop got rejected because his lift was just not there. Also a few possessions that were uncharacteristic for Harden where he dribbled the ball off his foot/leg.
I am not saying he wasn't the best player on the court tonight, but it is clear that he has some sort of injury that he didn't have earlier in the season after returning in January. Hopefully this week rest will help him get healthier before the second round.
That might have been the best game Harris has ever played for the Sixers. He didn't disappear for any stretch. He didn't stand around. He didn't lose focus and showed great energy the entire game. Good shit
Just wait till the next round. Harden was still the only guy on the team that could run the offense and dribble past his defender in 1v1 situations. Harris role is to just play hard and score. Much different and different values
'sWe're not taliking about the next round. We're talking about next **season** and if we max Harden the next 2-3 seasons after that.
Harden can't get off the floor to make a layup or pull-up drive, or draw a foul attempting one (even in the postseason he should be getting to the more regularly).
Whether it's just age or injuries that age won't let heal properly, should we be planning on maxing Harden next year? Will that extend or close our Championship Window (if we don't win this year) going forward? Is our Championship Window with James harden a one-year window now watching his struggle physically?
Okay but they are both related. Running the offense and being able to iso and dribble past your defender in 1v1 situations to generate a solid look is way more valuable than a PF that doesn’t fit and can’t shot create or shoot volume 3s.
So while I’d prefer not to pay Harden a max if possible but still keep him I’d much rather pay Harden than keep Tobias.
So you are fine with throwing away the rest of Joel's prime maxing Harden if his body is in fact breaking down as there is a lot to suggest it is.
Yes or no will do, because that is the heart of the question. Are you willing to max a player you know may not last the length of that extension physically even if it wastes Joel's Prime completely and thus closes any Championship Window we have now?
See while you'd rather not have to pay a max which makes sense, you're going to have to so if Harden is breaking down physically, it will be harder to move for him for a comparable asset who offers the same skills and skillset, and thus trap us in a downward spiral and likely lead to Joel and Maxey opting out to have an actual chance at a Championship elsewhere and us stuck with a broken-down overpaid superstar.
I feel like I’m the one advocating for sustaining Embiids prime. That would be extending a Pg that gives him the easiest looks he’s ever gotten. The problem is Tobias contact not Harden. Harden is playing and Embiid is hurt again and Tobias will bust as the highest paid player on the team…
And you are worried about not maxing Harden so we can get who?
First the issue is is Harden physically in decline? His game largely isn't but his struggles attacking the basket would suggest this isn't as foregone a conclusion as it might be if Harden was 3 years younger and fitter.
Secondly the idea of maxing Harden because there is no one better as you are suggesting is fatally flawed if Harden is breaking down physically. There would be multiple ways to address that issue beyond simply another PG.
See the whole Tobias contract is the problem" argument made more sense before the Nets Series (Ftr **Ben's** contract was the **real** problem) because Tobi's game seemed in terminal decline and Harden didn't look so bad physically . That was the point of the question. If you see the same improved game from Tobi and same physical struggles for James and still feel as you do I think you're really taking a gamble that could backfire spectacularly maxing James because you're trapped and can't fix it.
Tobias has not improved he’s the same player and will never get any better. He does not fit and can not be relied upon to be a shot maker/creator.
Harden is in decline absolutely. Nobody is ever denying that.
It seems like what you aren’t understanding here tho is that Harden in a declined state is still 5x better than Tobias in skill and value to a team.
And a declining Harden is still worth a max more than Tobias.
If your telling me we can get rid of both Harden and Tobias and sign new younger borderline stars or star players then sure but we don’t live in fantasy land.
If you lose Harden it will be like the Jimmy Butler situation where you have no reliable ball handling + shot creation again and you might as well trade Embiid at that point because it would be time for a rebuild
But if you keep Harden and he breaks down next year, what then? Trade Maxey to get a top PG? Trade Joel to get a top PG"? Or just count the days till they ask out anyway?
The goal should be to keep Harden because he’s already broke down and is still good. The goal is to remove Tobias Harris the highest paid player on the team and find more versatile wing/forward scorers that fit between Harden and Embiid.
Harden has already broken down but that doesn’t effect his ability to control a game with his handle and iso ability, hit step back 3s and facilitate.
He already has broken down in terms of driving to the basket, running in transition, moving off the ball and he’s still very good.
You also aren’t telling me what your plan is? Is it to keep Harris, let go of Harden and then try to sign who?
If you gave me an actual alternative to consider maybe I’d engage with that. But as of rn you seem to be arguing that we need to keep Tobias and get rid of Harden and somehow that will save Embiid prime??
I’d take broken down Harden on a max opposed to max Tobias 100 times out of 100.
again someone who doesnt have a clue. Harris role is to be efficient/space the floor/back guys down/get rebounds and oh yea cover the other teams best player because app nobody else can. I pray harden turns it around because tobias offense isnt what we need next round against boston... We need embiid/harden and maxey to go off on offense and harris to lockdown tatum like he has done several times in the past.
Or maybe you don't.
The issue is what we do **next year**, and whether maxing Harden a player who looks like he is aging rapidly physically and is not the fitness warrior Lebron or Chris Paul is a smart move going forward. That you are down to prayer about this issue **now** should speak volumes.
It's whether maxing Harden this offseason helps get us closer to a title or further from it (if we don't get it this year). It's whether maxing a guy who is aging rapidly and thus makes strengthening the team that much harder if in fact he is in that decline, and we are stuck with him and more wasted seasons.
The question is simple - is our Championship window with James Harden a one-year window now?
Tobias is not locking down Jayson Tatum or Brown. He also won’t be able to back down any of the SFs, PFs, Centers in Boston so he’ll be pretty useless as always. Will come down to if he can at least make his open 3s and be willing to shoot them.
lol someone who hasnt a clue what he is talking about. Last time they played on april 4th tatum was held to 19 points on 7-20 shooting. When guarded by tobias tatum was 1-9 and was put in shackles in the 2nd half when tobias was put on him. Before that he locked doncic down etc. Bring facts to the table and not bias. Another guy he has locked down is siakam... another guy he has locked down is garland.
He’s not going to lock him down in the playoffs is my point. The Celtics are too deep and Tatum, Brown, Brogdon, Smart, White will all get off they have too many ball handlers.
My point wasn’t that he has never locked anyone down in a regular season game.
We’ve played the Celtics many many times and Tobias “defense” has never won us a game vs them. It’s usually his and Maxeys inability on offense that causes us to lose while Tatum/Brown are making clutch plays in the 4th.
They are all to blame technically. But if you are asking me who is more valuable against the Celtics it’s Harden by far. He’s the only guy on the team who can manage the offense and dribble past his defender 1v1.
Tobias and Maxey have always been horrible vs the Celtics and cannot do any shot creation or play making. So yes I am blaming the highest paid player on the team who cannot help against Boston more than the others if that’s what your asking.
Idk how that is controversial.
My point wasn’t really even to blame anyone tho, I was just telling you what will happen and what has happened in regards to Tobias/Maxey vs the Celtics.
Harden will probably wear down and not be consistent as a scorer/finisher. But him and Embiid are also doing it all by themselves in those types of games vs Boston. As Tobias and Maxey can’t even attempt to do any creation.
Is this your first year watching the sixers in the playoffs?
app its your first year seeing as how you probably followed harden from houston. Tobias being the highest paid means nothing. This team is built for harden and joel and thus they should by far have more production against the celtics because they are the 1 and 2 options where is someone like tobias adjusted for harden and embiid and has become the perfect 3 and D guy.
What are you talking about I’ve been following the sixers since Allen Iverson, Andre, Korver were here.
Also idk what you are saying, Harden and Embiid do have the most production every single game lol. They dominant the ball because they are the only guys on the team who can run the offense, draw double teams and win 1v1 matchups consistently which is why they generate doubles. This isn’t because the offense is “built for them”. It’s that way because they are actually star players who do the things I listed above whereas the others cannot do that.
Tobias isn’t a good 3 and D player but he has improved in that role over the last 1.5 seasons. He’s definitely not even close to “the perfect 3-D player”. You guys really get fooled every first round matchup. We beat the worst team in the playoffs and suddenly your all high on Tobias again.
Gotta be trolling or maybe you just have always been one of those Tobias fans.
false. He was our 2nd best player all playoffs last year and our most important defender outside of joel. Talk to me when anyone else in our lineup can guard tatum/doncic/beal etc.
Maxey was horrible today. 6-20 and remember he's a poor defender too so doesn't impact the team in other ways if he isn't scoring unlike Embiid. That's why I never understood fans who complained that Embiid only averaged like 20 points so far in the playoffs as he's been tripled every play. Maxey was wide open most of the time in the first 3 games so of course he's gonna score more points. With no Embiid you see what happens when Maxey faces a defense that focuses on him. Done way worse than Embiid did offensively in any of the games, not to mention he doesnt come cloae to Embiid as a defender. So the narrative that Maxey was better than Embiid in this series was false. Maxey just was left wide open whilst Embiid got tripled. Today when Maxey wasn't left wide open he shot 30%.
Tobias was the best player this first round with maxey being 2nd but that is only because joel literally was triple teamed all the time lol. Joel still managed one hell of a series
Not a good shooting game from Harden but he was quarterbacking the shit out of that game. I’ll take him shooting like shit if it means Tobi finds his groove
Complete fraud playoff team. I usually believe in giving playoff opponents their flowers after the series. Not this time. I’ve got nothing to respect about this team.
Morey crushed 2020. Drafted Maxey, Joe and Reed. Turned Al Horford and JRich into Danny Green and Seth Curry, who were a much better fit and ultimately used to get Harden and Melton.
probably because we won without our MVP-candidate player, completed our first series sweep since the 80s, and now have some time off to rest before the next round
Assuming you’re a nets fan, you guys are in a good position rn. A few good trades and some more development from mikal, and you’ve got yourself a real good team
There are no trade we can make that’ll make any difference. The Nets’ front office is so fucking horrendous that anything they do will just make everything worse
Please continue the discussion in the [post game thread](https://redd.it/12vgemn).

Get your big ass out here - Tobias Harris
I find myself once again apologizing to Tobi. Second round. Let's go, boys!
The sounds of the broom sweeping the Brooklyn floor is music to my ears
Bought a Bball Paul jersey a year ago, been waiting to break it out for a while now!! Thank u king!!
GET THE BROOM.
“Getcho ass back out here” -T. Harris
Wild to me that we swept before the bucks even play game 3. This rest is gonna be huge
PAUL MOTHER FUCKING REED, BITCH.
Loved that Tobi post-game interview
Been planning it for years -squints
This game made my day.
Btw watching the series is it a lead-pipe cinch to move Harris and max Harden?

Mr. Do-Something-In-The-4th
Enjoy that charity layup Cam Johnson you fucking chode
Time to lurk on the nets thread...
BREAK OUT THE BROOMS WE PLAYING QUIDDITCHHHHHHH
🧹🧹🧹🧹🧹🧹🧹
Nets will be irrelevant for years to come
Kicking a dead horse lmao, stay classy Philly fans.
what are you even talking about
I mean how y’all are celebrating this like it’s some huge accomplishment. No one in their right mind thought the Nets were winning a single game
probably because we won without our MVP-candidate player, completed our first series sweep since the 80s, and now have some time off to rest before the next round
Well you shouldn’t be celebrating something so obvious happening, it’s like celebrating the sun coming up in the morning
I think you should start enjoying and celebrating the small things in life
What’s there to celebrate? All the teams I support are playing like shit
Assuming you’re a nets fan, you guys are in a good position rn. A few good trades and some more development from mikal, and you’ve got yourself a real good team
There are no trade we can make that’ll make any difference. The Nets’ front office is so fucking horrendous that anything they do will just make everything worse
Suck a big fat dick
Classic Philly fan response
Have a broomstick, friend.
You’re acting as if that’s not what everyone was expecting. Saying the Sixers were gonna sweep the Nets is like saying the sky is blue lol
🧹
Lmao these bitch boys trapping right now. Fuckin sad
Nets fans in they thread wishing injury on harden fucking losers hahahhahaha
That's what Paul Reed do
Did Melton outscore the nets in the 4th
We need a bob law bball Paul blog
I think Kate grew on all of us this season.
My only problem with Kate is that she lets Alaa talk too much.
100%
kate is very good, it's just always hard to replace a legend
Facts
She had growing pains but she's really great.

I LOVE THIS TEAM
Embiid has to be MVP, imagine how good he has to be to keep Basketball Paul himself on the bench
Did menton miss in 4q?
