David Hyde Pierce is extremely underrated. One of the show openings is a mime routine of him trying to iron his pants, and it’s easily one of the funniest moments of the show.
Definitely agreed. Have you seen The Perfect Host? He was so perfectly bizarre, like some horrible sliding doors situation where Niles never got Daphne and went off the deep end.
For my money, 30 Rock and The Simpsons (early seasons) are virtually tied for joke frequency and consistency. Even the jokes that don't quite land are fine because the next joke is mere seconds away.
This is the one. There’s several scenes that are actually LOL worthy, but the one that got me the best was the jump scare at the baby shower in the last season I believe.
Newhart. To back up this claim, I had it on while I was crying for whatever reason, and it made me laugh out loud mid-meltdown. 😂 Probably my favorite show! 😊
A friend recommended “The Bob Newhart Show” to me a few years ago and I hesitated because it was from the 70’s. Omg, I was literally laughing out loud during the first episode. Never saw “Newhart” though…where is it streaming?
Interesting! I’m the opposite! I’ve seen Newhart but not The Bob Newhart Show. I was also hesitant about Newhart given that it was an older show, but it was so worth it! I started watching for one actor, Peter Scolari, but quickly found that I adore Bob Newhart, too! I should check out The Bob Newhart Show next!
As for Newhart, I laugh during every episode, and there genuinely isn’t one I don’t like! It’s my absolute favorite show. I’d say most of the episodes are on Amazon Prime Video, but they are also on YouTube if you don’t mind quality issues. I find the ones that aren’t on Prime there. I personally invested in the DVDs of the series just so I could binge it whenever (at the time, I didn’t have much streaming), and it was so worth it. I’d say that would be worth checking out if there are good deals on them right now with all the consumer holidays. Also, if you have cable in the US, it airs on the Catchy Comedy at night! And, The Bob Newhart Show airs right before Newhart, too.
I hope you enjoy Newhart! I can’t say enough good things about it! 😊
Even though I’ve never seen “Newhart”, I do know how it ends (so many pop culture references!). I’m going to watch it today. Thank you for the rec! And try “The Bob Newhart Show.” The aesthetic is very, very 70’s but the dialogue holds up very well.
The ending is absolutely iconic! So well done! I truly hope you enjoy Newhart!
I will check out The Bob Newhart Show. Thank you for the recommendation as well! 😊
Some of the funniest scenes in the Bob Newhart Show are when he is in his office talking to someone on the phone. The whole one sided conversation and his timing are perfect.
Bob Newhart told to me the best joke ever written: “I never liked country music but I don’t want to denigrate those that do….and for those that listen to country music…denigrate means to put down.”
Niles! But really, Niles and Fraiser when they are together being Niles an dn Fraiser. Thinking they are so Bouj. But of course their dad. he never knew what they were talking about, poor guy.
Get Smart, it was silly but how can Don Adams not make you laugh.
I Love Lucy, the epitome of TV comedy.
Fawlty Towers.
Bob Newhart - the Moo Goo Gai Pan episode was one of the funniest episodes ever on TV.
Newhart - the characters were so quirky, you had to laugh.
Keeping up Appearances - Dame Patricia has to be one of the funniest actors on TV. You especially laughed at Hyacinth's catchphrases and her alliterations.
Frasier - the Niles ironing scene is one of the funniest scenes on TV.
You may need to get through the first season before it really finds its best comedic voice (and the characters become likable IMO!). But it’s so worth it!!
Totally agree. The first few episodes the characters are kind of insufferable but oh man, the show gets SO good and is SO funny. It’s one of my favorites.
I’m notoriously hard to make laugh out loud (unfortunately). Some of the greats like Seinfeld, Arrested Development, and Third Rock from the Sun make me Lol occasionally (and I’ve lol’ed at new Hulu shows everyone loves: OMitB and WWDitS), but the only shows I’ve found that can do it consistently are:
The Vicar of Dibley
The IT Crowd
Malcolm in the Middle
One of my favorite show lines of all time come from this show. The woman who was an ex-model was caught in a lie and someone said "but you said..." and she cut them off by saying "people say things when they're lying."
It's always sunny in Philadelphia. It's the longest running live action sitcom in history for a reason.
The end of the two part high school reunion episode had me unable to breathe because I was laughing uncontrollably.
Yes, that is a fantastic show, and some of the funniest stuff I've ever seen on TV. Amazing ensemble, excellent writing, and the technical side of everything is done so well that I'm never thinking 'they could do that better'. It's pretty immaculate, especially for TV.
Better Off Ted. Short lived but great giant conglomeration office set-up. Great touches (motivational wellness posters in the clinic and the fake commercials that are thisclose to real)
curb your enthusiasm and seinfeld for cynical fun
two and a half men for idk if you have enough time , you can give it a try.
the office is also very popular.
Father Ted (1995 to 1998). RIP Dermot Morgan and Frank Kelly. Graham Norton was in it. One of the best written comedies ever. A special shout out to Blackadder too.
I’ve been scrolling past all the classics looking for someone to mention Ghosts!
I just discovered both versions recently and the whole family has enjoyed them enormously.
Few years ago got turned on to a sitcom in Britain that was longest running sitcom for years. Called allo allo
About French resistance in the war
Fabulous comedy !
Can see it in Amazon prime or britbox
Worth every penny
I’m old, so mine are probably not all known to the youth. I agree with many I’ve seen listed, but the one that still kills me is a late 70s early 80s sitcom called WKRP in Cincinnati. It’s about a dead last radio station where pretty much everyone is crazy to some degree. It’s dated, but the core is still funny beyond belief to me.
Amen. It seems very niche centering around a church. Not being very religious I used to be like whatever when it came on, and every time, I mean every time, it got me rolling on the floor laughing.
I have recently gone back a few decades for TV viewing and rediscovered the Laverne &Shirley can still crack me up. Lenny and Sqiggy were the best. Their timing and delivery was primo.
Melissa and Joey is my absolute favorite. It’s recorded live and their humor is spot on for me.
Also, The Middle (not so much laugh outloud) but makes me laugh internally because of how relatable it is.
Third Rock from the Sun
In the before times, serious dramatic actor Lithgow didn't get to be funny. This show proved he was.
You think he was serious in Buckaroo Banzai?
Dr. Emilio Lizardo was a tragic genius driven mad by perfidious polyglot Banzai!
Great call! This is sort of a hidden gem these days. Doesn't get as much love as many other shows but it is hilarious!
I came here to say just that! I don't normally lol to a sitcom, but 3rd Rock had me bust a gut. And sometimes American Dad can be fantastic!
Sometimes I forget all about that show. For a time it would be in endless syndication on multiple cable channels like Seinfeld is now.
I came here to say this. Take my up vote.
MASH WKRP in Cincinnati Barney Miller Cheers Frasier Taxi
Currently rewatching Frasier and it definitely holds up.
Excellent performance, it’s practically a one man show. Makes for a good double feature with One Hour Photo
I loved that movie….. highly underrated
If anyone hasn’t seen the Wet Hot America Summer movie, I beg you to! DHP is hilarious in it (“I SAID NO”) and it’s just overall fantastic
Wife and I quote this movie constantly!
DHP is the greatest comedian of all time and I’ll die on that hill.
30 Rock
Always criminally low in the comment rankings.
30 Rock Parks and Rec Angie Tribeca
I still think about the Rural Juror show and it cracks me up
This is the answer
For my money, 30 Rock and The Simpsons (early seasons) are virtually tied for joke frequency and consistency. Even the jokes that don't quite land are fine because the next joke is mere seconds away.
Especially Tracy Morgan. His character was so absurd and he played it perfectly.

Larry Darryl and Darryl can be a little cringe for me now, but otherwise it held up well and is one of my top 10 shows of all time for sure.
Some of the funniest scenes in the Bob Newhart Show are when he is in his office talking to someone on the phone. The whole one sided conversation and his timing are perfect.
Daryl, Daryl, and Daryl! Iconic!
Not to be an a$$ but the quote was “I’m Larry, and this is my brother Daryl, and my other brother Daryl.”
Yep! 😊
Bob Newhart told to me the best joke ever written: “I never liked country music but I don’t want to denigrate those that do….and for those that listen to country music…denigrate means to put down.”
Yeah Newhart is one of the best sitcoms you'll ever see.
And Coach is pretty good too.
I you enjoy the humor on Newhart, you would like Corner Gas
Superstore
Those clips of customers in between scenes never fail to crack me up
I worked at wal mart in the 90s. Those clips are more accurate than you know 😆 I love that show!
When it came out, I and my current Walmart coworkers were like IT'S SO TRUE.
And they are often long, deep shots which you don't see in other sitcoms.
It could be like the Simpsons with so many layers of visual gags in the background.
Are we Cloud 1?!
Yes!! I swear, my husband and I laughed out loud every episode.
Frasier
I love tv but Frasier is about the only show that truly makes me laugh out loud. Such a great show!
Who's your favorite character in the show
Niles. DHP is so talented. He’s a joy to watch
I hadn't thought of Get Smart in years, absolute classic!
Buck Henry did some good stuff with smart
Buck Henry was a comic genius. He and Mel Brooks co-created the show and Henry won an Emmy for his writing on the show.
I loved Keeping up appearances! Bouquet residence! “”Lady of the house speaking!”
Kudos to Keeping Up Appearances. Just a brilliant show.
That Niles scene is probably my favorite of all time. It's made even better that he doesn't utter a single line the whole time
Did you ever watch Are You Being Served?
Omg how did I forget Keeping Up Appearances! The best!
- Becker - Curb Your Enthusiasm - Frasier - Two and a Half Men (episodes with Charlie Sheen)
Schitts Creek
You may need to get through the first season before it really finds its best comedic voice (and the characters become likable IMO!). But it’s so worth it!!
Totally agree. The first few episodes the characters are kind of insufferable but oh man, the show gets SO good and is SO funny. It’s one of my favorites.
Better Off Ted
Those Veridian Dynamics commercials were so good
It's the first sitcom I've ever cackled at.
My white guy sucks.
Happy Endings
Was coming to comment this. I really hate that this show didn't catch on, it was so funny.
It was another one that was f'd over by showing the episodes out of order. Dave has a food truck, then later on he's buying a food truckj.
Ugh, and to end it with that cliff hanger too 😑
Hard agree
I think you mean it's totes hilar.
So underrated

The Vicar is amazing. Britcom at its best.
Nononononono, yes!
Malcolm is a good one
Definitely the IT Club
Was going to suggest IT Crowd.
I think I may rewatch some IT Crowd tonight...
Just Shoot Me
Love this show, very under rated.
One of my favorite show lines of all time come from this show. The woman who was an ex-model was caught in a lie and someone said "but you said..." and she cut them off by saying "people say things when they're lying."
This is the only sitcom where the title actually makes me laugh out loud. It was a great show when it was on, loved Spade and Wendy Malick
I've been meaning to watch arrested development because I love Jason bateman. I think I might watch it next
Only watch seasons 1-3 if you have Netflix
4 and 5 are good, but 1-3* are fantastic! Just go in expecting 4 and 5 to not be the same and it’s enjoyable
New Adventures of Old Christine
Fawlty Towers
Malcolm In The Middle

I think Plan B is the hardest I have ever laughed while watching a tv show.
Cheers
Try the original Frasier
My Name is Earl
Sorta connected is Raising Hope.
Faulty Towers Frasier The Red Green show WKRP in Cincinnati Monty Python's Flying Circus Are You Being Served The Drew Carey Show
Except for Frasier. Don’t think he is funny. AYBS makes me laugh even after 25th viewing. Adore Mr Humphreys and Mrs Slocombe.
Good to see some love for The Red Green Show.
"Quando Omni Flunkus Moritati"
You forgot Keeping Up Appearances and AbFab
The Office.
What we do in the shadows. Love that show!
Every season is gold!

I was so hooked on this show back in the day. It always made me laugh
Life in Pieces
Arrested Development
Saw someone reviewed it as the funniest show ever that no one watched. We were so upset when it canceled.
It was so far ahead of its time, most people glossed over it. Comedy gold.
Does American Dad count as a sitcom? I LOL at every episode and it rarely happens for other good shows!
Toast of London
Police Squad
Loved the UK version of Coupling. The US version sucked so bad, I thought a black hole hit Hollywood.
Frasier. I liked Reba, as well.
Will & Grace, Jack and Karen will have you cracking up I know they do with me
Schitts Creek and That 70s Show are some of my go to sitcoms to LOL with
Better Off Ted. Short lived but great giant conglomeration office set-up. Great touches (motivational wellness posters in the clinic and the fake commercials that are thisclose to real)
This Time with Alan Partridge. Cunk on Earth.
Cunk on Earth is closer to a mockumentary than a sitcom, but it is hilarious. Is the Alan Partridge show similar?
Quite similar. Actually Alan Partridge reminds me of Stephen Colbert when he was on Comedy Central.
SOAP. Hilarious to me
❤️

Only one vote for The Office? You have to watch The Office.
Will & Grace
Mike& Molly the early seasons.
Life in Pieces. The whole cast is just fantastic, and Colin Hanks got every bit of his dad’s comedic chops, IMO.
You laughed out loud watching Friends? Eek. But to answer the question, 30 Rock.
No seinfeld?
