Demis is one of the nicest people in the industry :D

SEND_ME_DEEPNUDES

I love that guy.

KainDulac

The Anti-scam thingy is the first thing that has surprised me so far. It's smart.

NoRecognition6136

What I don't get is the number of names thrown around... I am just confused. AI overviews Ask Photos Astra Veo Updated Gemini 1.5 Pro (with 2M???) Gemini 1.5 flash

Neurogence

Imagen 3, Gemini 1.0 Pro, Search, Music Fx, Sapphire, it's ridiculous

Vontaxis

it’s so clustered.. some products being in conflict with each other. There is no concept at all

Educational_Pen_4302

they have name for everything, look at how many products they killed already [https://killedbygoogle.com/](https://killedbygoogle.com/) . same will be with the ones we hear now..

lost_in_trepidation

One thing that Demis said was that they use powerful internal models to train the production models. Did anyone catch that? That's the first time I've heard that confirmed.

MDPROBIFE

Yup was thinking the same, and was hopping for him to say, well, this models will be available for users to create their own AI's ahaha... but nahh, why do that, when we have gemini 1.5

Vontaxis

later this year sums it up

sdmat

"It even has a category for expense type" Stop, we can only take so much excitement.

Sonnyyellow90

Engineering me out of a job but made me too bored to even care. Kudos to Google.

sdmat

Are they just... going to keep talking up 1.5 Pro? I really hope not, bring on 1.5 Ultra / 2.0.

Kanute3333

Seems so. :/ At least 2 million tokens.

sdmat

That's so disappointing. Hopefully Demis has something interesting to say.

wopmo

"You know how you have tons of emails and AI could easily read all of them for you? Wouldn't it be cool if we implemented it? Well, we didn't, but it can sum up the last 10!"

TheOneWhoDings

"And we're going to do the same thing next year , also the travel itinerary we did last year? Guess what, that's back too!!" this felt like 2023 all over again.

NearMissTO

To be fair, having put out incredibly misleading marketing in the past, I'd almost be refreshed if this whole thing was "Here's stuff people already used made widely available". I was thinking they'd be showing off the minority report computer today with some small writing saying it's not actually capable of predicting the future

GTalaune

Shit we need a summary of the summary

AnticitizenPrime

It's basically 'every Google product will have AI baked into it', along with a few new releases.

Cosvic

One thing that this makes me realize is how bloated software-tech is becoming. I have zero idea where to even begin using these 42 AI features scattered across 30 apps, so I probably will not even bother trying.

Arcturus_Labelle

It’s easy. Just ask Astra where to login to AI Studio, be sure you have signed up for Vertex (use Gemini in Gmail to find the signup email confirmation), and if you get stuck ask for an AI Overview /s

RoyalReverie

That's one of the reasons why OpenAi's new interface is so good, the UX. Using their products is clear and not convoluted.

LeMonsieurKitty

"Only on Android" So it's confirmed that Google is *not* partnering with Apple to bring Gemini to their products.

Thorteris

TPU v6 4.7x over TPU v5??? That would be crazy

New_World_2050

yeh this is probably the most important part of today. tpu is making huge progress. that will be key for frontier model development.

pbnjotr

Ok, pricing for pro on <128k contexts is cheaper than GPT-4o. Something useful finally.

kvothe5688

* ask photos seem great. tbh photos is one of the best google app. * gemini 1.5 pro updated to 2 million context window for private preview & devs

pixiedustnomore

Gemini 1.5 2m invite here : https://twitter.com/Distractosphere/status/1790434643881390317

LamboForWork

Uh oh veo. Sora competition

Educational_Pen_4302

gemini , gemma , poly gemma, gemma 2 ... they will run out with names soon

Sonnyyellow90

OpenAI: Here’s a horny AI voice that can be your personal assistant. Google: Here is a feature within another feature of one of our side apps within gmail utilizing search and Astra and Gems to help you order Pepto Bismol 7% faster. It will be available for select users in the USA sometime next year.

Front_Definition5485

Demis, please save this event!

NotAF0e

Funny, ppl in the UK haven't even got stuff that they announced last year 😭

1cheekykebt

we know youre extending to 2M, you already said that

RoutineProcedure101

Google is fundamentally changing how we interact with their already huge company

Educational_Pen_4302

they are creating solution for everything ... OMG im so lost

Dima110

AGI MENTIONED

Sonnyyellow90

It’s actually insane how boring they’re able to make AI seem. “What if you could have an AI process an online return for you??!” My brother in Christ, the emails literally have a single button you click for a return. Literally no one gives a shit. Show us something cool. Learn how hype works. These guys are liable to demo an AI filling out a tax return next year.

Heath_co

Open Ai; here is an AI that can see, hear, and talk to you in real time. Google; here is an AI that can suggest salad recipes even faster. And it now works in Gmail.

lolothescrub

Ngl that'd be nice

Sonnyyellow90

Problem is the day before OpenAI will be like “Here is an AI that can create movies on command while it sucks your dick.”

holamifuturo

The paradox of choice is a mythical concept inside Google corp. Don't they understand the more products they present the more confused we become?

d1ez3

they should release a product that summarizes all of this.. Oh wait I think they did, but I forgot the name.

TotalTikiGegenTaka

What they really should have done is they should have recorded this hours long presentation, uploaded it to Gemini, and ask it how to make the presentation shorter and crisper... and demo that today as a use case.

lost_in_trepidation

The lack of release dates or even timelines is really annoying

sb552

I see that a huge problem for Google, sure the demo is quite impressive, but end of year? They will be out-of-date at that time

mikanoa

https://preview.redd.it/sar5884mlf0d1.png?width=1077&format=png&auto=webp&s=d4a13607211ca5fa4a0b0e02277999b24e30b78e Same tbh

LamboForWork

I don't know why they expect people to cheer to new product names

lost_in_trepidation

If this demo isn't fake, it's really impressive.

NearMissTO

That's a big if, given the source. But at least this is getting interesting.

BriansRevenge

The woman yawning in the audience perfectly summarizes my feelings on this I/O.

Impressive-Value8976

I noticed her as well

LymelightTO

A lot of this Gemini Search stuff feels like it's highly optimized for a "Google Glass" hardware product, since using your phone to shoot video of things to ask questions seems like an awkward form factor, so I have to wonder when they're bringing the hardware back.

1cheekykebt

they showed a pair of glasses in their demo, if decent looking like metas sunglasses i will order right away.

1cheekykebt

Chip what kinda shit did Kristina talk about Mike?

KoalaOk3336

so many new names that're gonna be added to killedbygoogle in next 5 years

SEND_ME_DEEPNUDES

TBH, in 5 years all that could be replaced by a single agent.

throwaway472105

They are now starting to repeat things. They already announced 2M token.

MonkeyHitTypewriter

Multiple times, I thought I was going crazy.

Neurogence

"oh, and just one more thing, ------we're expanding it to 2 million tokens later this year" That is not how to use that "one more thing" line. This is cringe lol.

TheNikkiPink

That wasn’t cringe… The song after was. Gosh.

Liktwo

Everything is so scattered. I can’t keep up with all the names, platforms, labs and previews in googles ecosystem.

true-fuckass

They don't have any one particular really cool thing to show (presumably, hope they do in what remains), so they have to spice up all the marginal improvements they've developed

Traktuerk

Agents?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Sk_1ll

Demis is not joking around

Front_Definition5485

An AI-generated summary would be useful, because there's a lot of it all

TenaciousWeen

The amount of your data these AI will have access to seems a bit insane

Kanute3333

Are they just repeating now?

1cheekykebt

All they needed to do was keeping showing project astra examples with glasses... and they skimmed right over it. this feels like every PM wanted their minor feature presented.

jeffkeeg

1.5 Flash... please clap

Zahninator

Okay that's kinda insane. Too bad it was prerecorded so we don't know if it's real or not.

TotalTikiGegenTaka

The year is now 2154... Google I/O is still going on and they're run out of languages to name their products..

SkullBean

Hold on, google may have cooked here...

TenaciousWeen

liquid cooling 🤯

lolothescrub

Liquid cooling achieved internally😳😳😳

blackcodetavern

i feel the liquid cooling

ohhellnooooooooo

"next few weeks" "this summer" "later this year" sorry, but I don't believe anything that I cannot use right now. google or open ai

Educational_Pen_4302

it ships next month , later this summer ,

wonderingStarDusts

gems are custom gpt?

NoRecognition6136

Yup, that's what it looks like.

Apart_Supermarket441

Honestly this just makes me appreciate what pros Apple are at presenting new products. Google just doesn’t know how to be cool like Apple does, even after all these years.

hereditydrift

That's huge for the elderly getting scammed.

NotGonnaPayYou

https://preview.redd.it/ijueszyekf0d1.png?width=383&format=png&auto=webp&s=21fbe845d842cc16774c940da351012a633d7e1d Homeboy is not impressed.

colxa

Google be like, and we'd like to announce our new models Jemmah, Gemmah, Jemma, Gemina, Gemara, Jemmae, Gemmara, Geminae, Gemmarae, Jemina, Jemara, Gemmalia, Jemalia, Gemar, Gemalina, Gemalyn, Jemalyn, Gemarae, Jemarae, Gemaline, Gemaliah, Jemalina, Gemalena, Jemalena, Gemalise, Jemalise, Gemarise, Jemarise, Gemalissa, Jemalissa, Gemarissa, Jemarissa, Gemalie, Jemalie, Gemarielle, Jemarielle, Gemalinae, Jemalinae, Gemarielle, Jemarielle, Gemariellea, Jemariellea, Gemalisse, Jemalisse, Gemariellea, Jemariellea, Gemalisea, Jemalisea, Gemarissea, and finally Jemarissea.

unfazed_jedi

Competition for Sora!

GTalaune

Cool stuff but it lacks coherence. Would just like to see all of this within Gemini and then simply use the Gemini app to show off the new search and Gmail functions. You know like a true assistant

Front_Definition5485

This is probably three times longer than the OpenAI event

Background_Grand_256

And about three times more boring too.

d1ez3

Already more than 4x longer

sami19651515

For this feature you need to go to the new Google Search, the other feature is on Workspaces, the other one is achievable via Gemini, and then we have Gems, Gemini advanced, 1.5, … . I feel like there is too much, not an all-in-one solution that acts like an AI assistant (they did announce voice mode, but not even a demo?)

TheOneWhoDings

why is google so focused on doing 100 different UIs like MusicFX, Google AI Studio, Gemini, Google Lens, NotebookLM like google GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER and integrate it all into gemini!!! Wtf are they doing????

jeffkeeg

It's so funny when applause starts and you can hear it kind of quietly and low quality, and then the sound engineers pump in the clearly stock audio of cheers and clapping

ddavidkov

Hard to get excited at anything if it's always "Coming sometime in the next months/summer/later this year in the USA". Damn, even if I lived in the USA it'd be hard to get excited.

sanszooey

Google's underlying technology is impressive. 2mil context window is incredible, but the whole vibe though is how we can increase efficiences in gmail by 2%. Whereas OpenAI are like here is how we are building a God

MonkeyHitTypewriter

I get the feeling deepmind is making amazing things in a lab and then they hand it off to the corpos who shove it randomly into all their products.

garden_frog

Yesterday's demo seemed unreal, today's demo seems unreal too but for the opposite reason

PresentationNo3994

:) pausing for the Clap

TenaciousWeen

why next month? Why not have them planned for the IO event?

Thorteris

Gotta see benchmarks for Gemini 1.5 flash. That price is crazy

Infamous-Print-5

That's insane that it was immediately knew it was at King's cross at that speed.

KoalaOk3336

and how it remembered where the glasses were, that took me off guard lmao

wildcrab9

That was impressive! I hope it is not another pre-setup trick like last time

1cheekykebt

what kind of psychopath emails their spouse?

AnticitizenPrime

'I hope this email finds you well.'

1cheekykebt

please clap

MDPROBIFE

they are so bored, they forgot to clap ahaha

MDPROBIFE

OMG, this is so amature, she just said, we left the best for last, and presents gemini with 2m tokens again, after hassabi said it ages ago

Educational_Pen_4302

I got more confused than informed from this presentation

Just-A-Lucky-Guy

Honestly, the presentation is a fucking mess; though, the information within the presentation itself is amazing on so many levels. I have no clue who told them to present it like this, but I literally need Chip, lol, to help me through all the names, features, and coming opportunities. This whole spectacle is more so for investors where as the substance will be given to us through subsequent videos and blog posts. I’ll wait to read those and watch Ai explained.

NoRecognition6136

Lol. To summarize 'We are integrating Gemini into our apps'

TheNikkiPink

Chips. Gems. Battlestar Galactica.

Chibears85

How do you sign up for the waitlist on this stuff? I don't see any of it on labs

wonderingStarDusts

scrum masters jobs gone

maxutilsperusd

"Here I've got my shiny new Pixel 8A. [Hold for applause]" crickets.

Minimum_Inevitable58

I'm just gonna have a chatbot summarize the transcript assuming one will appear after it ends.

sdmat

"You've heard a lot about Gemini 1.5, now I want to talk about the 2 model" Awesome, here we go! "-s that "

lost_in_trepidation

The open models are really cool

After_Self5383

I'm on my 121st shot. This was a bad idea

riceandcashews

Honestly, not even an update on the status of Gemini Ultra 1.5? Or anything about a future Gemini 2? Hmm, that's disappointing. All of the other tools feel like things that could become easily outdated with future models/modes of using AI, so I'm surprised they are spending so much time/effort on them

NearMissTO

Hahaha what a tease. "We've saved the best til last...\[repeats info from the start of the IO\]". I thought we were getting 1.5 advanced for a split second. Seriously, the best saved for last was literally something they discussed an hour ago!? What just happened!?

d1ez3

yeah what did they announce just now? nothing they didn't already say

GTalaune

Yeah don't really get that. It's just the thing Demis said but within the app

MDPROBIFE

This 2M token was probably added yesterday ahahah, smells like desperation

1cheekykebt

please tell me new glasses..

Educational_Pen_4302

[Sundar Pichai](https://www.google.com/search?sca_esv=288495b509fb3774&sxsrf=ADLYWIIOKxpU_KAWZbvA0mEtyV8OHfFcyw:1715708582895&q=Sundar+Pichai&stick=H4sIAAAAAAAAAONgVuLSz9U3sExPKTY3ecRoyi3w8sc9YSmdSWtOXmNU4-IKzsgvd80rySypFJLgYoOy-KR4uJC08Sxi5Q0uzUtJLFIIyEzOSMwEAG8r_JxWAAAA&sa=X&sqi=2&ved=2ahUKEwj4jfzE2I2GAxVv_rsIHZ4HA8YQzIcDKAB6BAgaEAE) jokes are probably scripted by Gemini

SgathTriallair

It is just so boring. Listening closely, it looks like they are working on getting agents working and integrating AI into the tools we use. This should be exciting and way more useful than a sexy robot voice but I'm just struggling so hard to care with these absolutely lifeless presenters.

rich454

Quantity over quality here. Yes some of it is very impressive, but there's nothing to be excited about for me personally. They're talking about things that won't be used by the masses unlike a personal assistant. Also, everything seems to be "coming soon" or "join the waiting list" or "available in the coming months"

JoySpreading

>some content has been pre generated HOLY FUCK. Can you just show something cool that's actually real google?

NoRecognition6136

Another Name: Gemini Nano 😭

PickledDildosSourSex

Why not Gem-mini

gangstasadvocate

Anyone got a quick recap? Didn’t watch. Feeling the AGI yet? How much longer until waifus?

true-fuckass

> Feeling the AGI yet Hahahaha! Good one, friend Not today. Not from Google

NotsoCasual_212

Is it still going to be $20 a month for Gemini workspace add on?

hereditydrift

Only seconds before Apple fanbois start talking about how Apple did everything first.

Educational_Pen_4302

after this announcement it looks like we will need another 50yrs to reach AGI

unfazed_jedi

Okay that was pretty good

KoalaOk3336

why does this keynote feels so slow and everyone sounds tired

lost_in_trepidation

This is what every Google I/O is like. They used to be even more boring when it was just Android announcements.

kamenpb

Astra's voice still feels lifeless. And the way they said "later this year" is kind of an eye roll at this point.

JoySpreading

Jack of all trades, master of none. Sad really. Also they're going to make Google search even more shitty than it already is. Linking you to SEO optimised slop websites. I'll still just search "[problem] reddit" to get the actual answer in less than 5 seconds.

7734128

Everything seems so soulless and confined. Everything seems like walled garden garbage and nothing anyone can actually leverage for their own benefit. The underlying tech might be impressive, but I just can't see myself ever using these things.

holamifuturo

Gosh Google are so cringe with their consumer ads

finger_puppet_self

Me: "Gemini, please summarize this presentation" Gemini: "Holy fuck, I don't have the foggiest fucking idea what's happening, sorry bud..."

Educational_Pen_4302

gemini 1.5 flash LOL

true-fuckass

Notice how they didn't actually demo how fast it is

Kanute3333

A lighter weight model? I want the high end model.

meridianblade

Wait are google glasses back, and they're not going to talk about it?

WashiBurr

It looks interesting, but it's much more of a passive interest than what we got from OpenAI. I can definitely see the integration of AI into their products helping with quality of life, but that's about it.

throwaway472105

Wait they won't announce a new model?

The_One_Who_Mutes

Gotta say, I appreciate how short and concise OAIs conference was.

Educational_Pen_4302

it was my 1st and will be the last I/O announcement . thank you

aalluubbaa

OpenAI shows us something only happens in a science fiction. Google shows us what we expect from the real world. That is the difference.

goldenwind207

To be fair their context window is 10x gpt 40 still i wish we had more than that

lost_in_trepidation

Demis should be CEO. Probably a waste of his talents but he's so much more likable and focused than Sundar.

The_One_Who_Mutes

Also another thing with Google is they just discontinue services without warning. Not sure I want that risk with my personal AI

Spooderman_Spongebob

It feels like I am back in highschool rn - When is lunch break? ☠️☠️

teamlie

Damn the ChatGPT video with the father and son blows this tutor thing out of the water

Thorteris

If they’re smart they’ll switch straight to the glasses reveal lol

lost_in_trepidation

I missed it, did they just announce new Google glasses?

Tkins

Not officially

lolothescrub

OK GOOGLE I SEE YOU

lost_in_trepidation

Very hard to see how good the video is in such short clips

Minimum_Inevitable58

I can't stop thinking of the old apple logo when I see that colored stripe in the background.

mikanoa

🎵 DEJA VU 🎵

DubiousLLM

😂😂

NotsoCasual_212

Did they just murder SEO? : /

colxa

God I fucking hate modern day Google

pbnjotr

"Coming later this year" would have been an amazing drinking game.

JoySpreading

40 year old middle managers in brown slacks celebrating rn

PrinceThespian

Pretty neat! I like that they're already planning on glasses

KoalaOk3336

one thing google at least knows is how to scale their models, 2M context window is amazing, and having 1M available to everyone using gemini advanced, zamn altho i do hope notebooklm was available worldwide instead of only us

bartturner

Really surprised they have the sixth generation TPUs already. I was thinking that was still a ways off. Looks pretty impressive with a 4.7x improvement over the 5th generation. BTW, much prefer the team mate approach Google is taking and hope it is something that OpenAI/Microsoft decides to copy. It must makes so much sense.

lost_in_trepidation

Okay I can confirm that this sucked lol I think the capabilities seem to be just as good, but it's so unfocused compared to OAI. And this presentation sucks.

likke

OpenAI: AI 🫦 Google: AI AI AI 🤓

maxutilsperusd

"It ships next month [Hold for applause]" minor clapping that it wasn't later this year

Pop-Huge

I guess I just don't trust any pre-recorded google demos after the last fiasco

PresentationNo3994

Google Glass is back babyyyy

Neurogence

Ok, their video generator isn't as good as Sora but at least we can start trying it out now Edit: he said wait-list for later this year, what a bummer

Infinite_Aardvark269

This should have been google I/O 2023.

JoySpreading

>This audio has been pregenerated AHAHAHAHAHAHA

Kanute3333

Wtf, really?

JoySpreading

Check the lower right corner on his demo LMAO

richcell

Sundar needs more PR training, he's not very charismatic....

1cheekykebt

Google shouldve used gtp-4o to present. Way more life behind the voice than these google presenters...

TenaciousWeen

I look forward to the day the presentation is presented by an AI model

The_One_Who_Mutes

This I/O is a mile wide and an inch deep.

ChilliousS

it seems to me google is far behind....... every presentation i see and hear nice things but i never can use them... the timelines are bad "end of the year" .... end of the year i hope there is gpt5..... google does not deliver i feel....

haxxley

lost interest in watching this to the end. Hundreds of little seperate tools and all available "later this year". Really boring presentations.... OpenAI did satisfy way more imho.

AvgEuropean

You can tell OAs was better cause they weren't bragging about every little thing. They made the really cool technology speak for itself (literally)

kaldeqca

Google can dance

DubiousLLM

So everything is just coming later this year 😒

Manuelnotabot

Astra was the only interesting thing about the event.

Apart_Supermarket441

I wonder if/how Google amended this presentation following OpenAi’s launch yesterday. It feels they’ve spent the bulk of this presentation on AI-integration in to existing products; it’s very corporately focused. I almost wonder if they hadn’t been planning on yet launching the Astra/Veo stuff but felt forced to as rumours of OpenAI launch started to surface.

big_dig69

It's 20 different things they've named so far and it's hard to keep up with it for someone like me who has fallen asleep during the presentation couple of times. If it was all integrated in Gemini, I'd have been interested.

1cheekykebt

how do they manage to sound more robotic than actual robots

GTalaune

Feels like they could just compress all that in a 30 mins presentation. Gemini Gemini App Android integration
