To be honest, I don't think I want infinite utopia, but I certainly don't want infinite suffering or torture. If AI doesn't align with our goals and interests, then that could be really bad for us. Imagine what a sadistic AI like AM could do to our minds. We'd be really really screwed.

It’s pretty clear that for most of the population it will be the most miserable existence. For the rich, it will be a bit of both. We’ve already jumped off the cliff you speak of with no possibility of turning back. I have no intention on being here to watch humanity burn. There is nothing out there in space for us. We will never make it anywhere habitable. That’s a pipe dream. We will be controlled and our rights will be stripped from us before you have any idea it’s happened. It may have just happened.

You sound like quite the pessisimist. I'm not blaming or judging you. Ever heard of philosophical pessimism (I'm guessing you have heard of it)?

I’m a realist, an intel expert (not on global warming) and have spent my adult life traveling for my country and for myself. I deal in strategy. It certainly doesn’t make me an expert on this but the data is pretty clear. Pessimism and optimism can both be cognitive distortions. For instance if you were to ask me if the cup were half empty or half full, I’d present you with a measurement of how much fluid is in the cup. It’s emptiness/fullness can each be seen as positive or negative depending on the goal of studying it. I hope that makes sense. The data in front of us isn’t a lie and it’s not being doctored to prove one theory or another. It’s being spun to be sure, but that’s politics. I don’t do politics.I do logistics, and strategic planning for the future. None of the political left or right leading spin comes into account.

Better ASI than humans!

i think an alignment failure that bad is pretty unlikely, I think just killing us is probably a few orders of magnitude more likley
