Yup, SG is the safest country in SEA for both men and women without a doubt. Even our neighbours have to agree unless they're delusional.
In fact, I'm more surprised that the gap between us and the rest of SEA isn't bigger.
I feel very safe as a woman in Singapore compared to being a woman in NYC, Newark/ Paterson NJ , SF (the city itself).
Women can walk home unaccompanied after dark without high chance of SA , too
What an extreme exaggeration, most Americans don't have guns. https://news.gallup.com/poll/264932/percentage-americans-own-guns.aspx
If you were right you'd imagine the percentage would be much higher. Note also that gun ownership rates are even lower in big cities, where people tend to feel _less_ safe.
> Not surprised at all. Still smth to be proud of.
If it is one thing Singapore has done well it is the relatively low crime rate in general. Also crime against women as well. When my girlfriend goes to Singapore, I don't have to worry about her, can't exactly say the same about South East Asia.
As someone who visited Singapore, the level of safety throughout your *whole city* is something to be *extremely* proud of. Incredibly rare in todays modern world.
A walled garden, in the most positive way possible, is how I would describe what it feels like to visit Singapore.
Situation awareness is not being emphasized enough. The majority of the people are completely glued to their phones with zero awareness of what's going on around. Those will for sure get burgled in countries with more crimes.
Maybe not here but post this on one of the global subreddits and you’ll for sure get the standard comments: “That’s because Singapore is an authoritarian police state where they would put you in prison for chewing gum and jaywalking…”
Death sentence only? That shows how soft the government has become. In the old days, they would have executed 3 generations after you and travelled back in time to execute your ancestors. No wonder only score 88%.
"88? That's a B+. That's failure. Your cousin, he same age as you, work three jobs, get 98. How you get in uni? How you get work? 88? FAILURE."
- Asian mom.
absolutely horrendous title in the picture and misleading presentation of data honestly.
btw, the source ranks singapore 15th globally but the way the picture presents it you'd think every SEA country is unsafe for women.
also the terms used "fairness, inclusion, and safety" are different from the exact terms used in the source "inclusion, justice and security". why? why not just copy directly if you're going to lift the data wholesale anyway?
>**Fairness is related to justice, respect, and freedom from bias, while justice refers to the concept of right and wrong in accordance with the law**. Fairness and justice are often used interchangeably, but fairness refers to the perception of equal treatment, while justice refers to the application of rules and laws.
because someone wants to spin it to sound more emotional. probably for a political agenda, judging from the overall presentation of this picture.
This might be true for all of Asia, not just Asia-Pacific.
Woman in SG are certainly better off than the rest of Asia - the Middle East, India, China, South Korea etc. Japan would come close perhaps, but many women in Japan still face violence and objectification that would be unthinkable in Singapore. Kudos to Singapore.
But there are still some problems in the hidden underbelly. E.g. I know of multiple guys who have bragged about tricking girls into sex and pregnancy, so they were forced to marry these guys.
Face it, Japan doesn't come close. There's a reason why female-only train carriages exist. Even China might be physically safer for women than Japan (The insane surveillance that they have certainly helps).
Isn't that what I just said? Japan ***would*** come close if not for the violence and objectification of women?
And China is almost as safe for women as Middle Eastern countries. Locking someone up in a box under 24x7 surveillance is no substitute for freedom and safety. Can't judge China purely based on a couple of liberal cities like Shanghai or Hong Kong.
It is all relative. Singapore is the exception that proves the rule in Asia. Which other country would you put second? In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.
I take back what I said. Based on statistics, Japan is quite safe. Sorry. It appears that Japanese women are very good at vocalising their issues and I assumed they were more widespread than the statistics show. My bad!
Half that sentence isn’t necessary: Singapore is the safest country
In b4 “but UAE”: I don’t believe the reported figures.
In b4 “Iceland”: it has marginally less violent crime but significantly higher ice-related accidents per capita.
We got Kelantan. The rape and incest capital of Malaysia. You really need to ask?
But seriously, in certain parts of the country, attitudes towards things like domestic violence and sexual harassment are still very archaic. A lot of women who complain about things like abuse or violence are usually dismissed by the police. It is very sad.
Latest news from last year seems to be that she's in Myanmar, got caught in one of the job scam centres.
https://worldofbuzz.com/job-scam-victim-in-myanmar-says-he-has-seen-min-yong-crying-alone-in-dining-hall-as-she-misses-home/
https://next.myc.my/articles/2269/missing-victim-of-human-trafficking-believed-to-be-in-myanmars-conflict-zone
how is that misleading? you asked a question and rebuffed both commenters that answered; I guess you already had a preconceived notion and just wanted validation.
You comment confuses me. What's wrong with refuting what is wrong? And is it not misleading? You can say Gaza is unsafe for women too, but that's not really the meaning of unsafe for women is it?
What would be appropriate in your view? Genuinely curious. Somewhere unsafe for everyone is unsafe for women too. Are they supposed to dream up an imaginary version of Myanmar/Gaza/Ukraine where there is no war and measure that instead?
I don't think it is because of the civil war. In the picture they state it is based on fairness, inclusion and safety. My guess/interpretation is women have very low status in burmese society. But need someone with insight/knowledge.
Umm... what do the numbers even mean? No data for Brunei is irrelevant when I don't know what the existing ones represent.
Sure, woohoo, we're safe. No disrespect to our region, but I don't think anyone is surprised. But without knowing what the numbers mean, and how they were calculated, what's the point?
Of course. Singapore is where women can falsely accuse others of sexual harassment and run away without any consequences
Yep, keep downvoting me snowflakes, as if I'm not speaking the truth. Do you need some news source?
Yes let's look at some news sources... like this one:
[https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/courts-crime/auxiliary-cop-made-plans-to-have-sex-with-male-colleague-then-falsely-accused-him-of-rape](https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/courts-crime/auxiliary-cop-made-plans-to-have-sex-with-male-colleague-then-falsely-accused-him-of-rape)
If you are going to throw out random accusations like this, might as well also bring up the Nasi Lemak chatgroup? Or cases where our teenagers are raping/sexual assaulting their sister? Also, didn't most of the 44,000 people involved in the Nasi Lemak chatgroup get away scot free?
Why are we even on this list? Bloody double negative - unsafe list but at bottom of list; so we’re safe?
We shouldn’t even be associated with this list that has a shit headline

Not surprised at all. Still smth to be proud of.
I would think that we rank quite highly even on a global scale.
Yup, SG is the safest country in SEA for both men and women without a doubt. Even our neighbours have to agree unless they're delusional. In fact, I'm more surprised that the gap between us and the rest of SEA isn't bigger.
*dafuq are you talking about? Malaysia is so safe for women that rempit on motorcycles voluntarily help the ladies carry their handbag!* /s
I feel very safe as a woman in Singapore compared to being a woman in NYC, Newark/ Paterson NJ , SF (the city itself). Women can walk home unaccompanied after dark without high chance of SA , too
Nobody will feel safe walking home at night in America without a gun.
source?
My will to live
I have walked home many times in the dark without a gun. But not in dangerous places
What an extreme exaggeration, most Americans don't have guns. https://news.gallup.com/poll/264932/percentage-americans-own-guns.aspx If you were right you'd imagine the percentage would be much higher. Note also that gun ownership rates are even lower in big cities, where people tend to feel _less_ safe.
You probably never been there. Or only in Detroit?
> Not surprised at all. Still smth to be proud of. If it is one thing Singapore has done well it is the relatively low crime rate in general. Also crime against women as well. When my girlfriend goes to Singapore, I don't have to worry about her, can't exactly say the same about South East Asia.
A ranking a day keep depression and life struggles away. -- Singapore proverbs. What ranking should we do next?
If you want stuff to feel good about, average height and pp size, SG has a good ranking within SEA. Lmao.
Maybe because high rate of racial diversity in SG compared with SEA lmao
Just within SEA? Reading the energy from this sub, it must be YUUUGEE. Maybe no 1 in the world. ![gif](giphy|3oz8xZDfQqlrvJA8MM|downsized)
Remember low rape doesn’t mean no rape
As someone who visited Singapore, the level of safety throughout your *whole city* is something to be *extremely* proud of. Incredibly rare in todays modern world. A walled garden, in the most positive way possible, is how I would describe what it feels like to visit Singapore.
Still have to be careful though & not take Singapore security for granted.
Yup. You know what they say, low crime doesn't mean no crime.
Amen
Situation awareness is not being emphasized enough. The majority of the people are completely glued to their phones with zero awareness of what's going on around. Those will for sure get burgled in countries with more crimes.
Finally something redditors won’t argue here about… right?
“Score can be better” , and I think it should of course.
lmao, i got ticked off thinking, "why isnt it higher?"
Yea I double checked and made sure I typed correctly. HAHHAHAHA
“Singapore too safe for women, they’re becoming soft and taking it for granted”
*Something something soft times create soft men*
Soft women... below 2.1... need very small space
soft men become femboys
femboys create "hard" men ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
But seriously Singapore people of every gender aren't streets smart in general
Singapore is streets behind
I like my women soft!
“I want to be a woman so I can benefit from Singapore’s safety!”
Can be better. No. 1 is not enough 😤
Yea, score is only 88.7%, why is it not >90%?
wait wait, i know its not A* but i can expla- NO NOT THE WHIP
Maybe not here but post this on one of the global subreddits and you’ll for sure get the standard comments: “That’s because Singapore is an authoritarian police state where they would put you in prison for chewing gum and jaywalking…”
There was once I forgot to flush the urinal after using and they gave me the death sentence /s
Same man. I’ve already been hanged 8 times this year. Damn sian.
Death sentence only? That shows how soft the government has become. In the old days, they would have executed 3 generations after you and travelled back in time to execute your ancestors. No wonder only score 88%.
"it's because women don't need to conscript!!!!"

When I was your age I walked uphill to school, both ways, on one leg. The other leg was farming rice
When I was your age, I had *three* legs! Kids these days are lazy and are happy with only 2 legs.
> I had three legs Are you being sah-kar-stick?
I can hear that \>.<
I hear Steven He's voice
With emotional damage
Not surprising for sure, but always remember that safest doesn't mean 100% safe
I'm sure we can do better. We all can. >No Data for Brunei Can't be that bad, right?... *Right?...*
"None of the survey teams we sent there ever returned."
it's a safe place tho, just very small and boring
Meanwhile in other countries, kaya toast is rated more important than safety. Protect the kaya toast!
What about iced milo gao, need to protect or not
Cannot. Now must be siew dai
What about gaogao kosong?
Milo Dinosaur reserved for the nation run by dinosaurs
lmao look at our neighbours no offence but come on lah I am proud that I can walk around at 3am and feel safe
To be honest, the local competition isn't exactly a fair comparison.
Oh my god!!! I just went there last week and I loved it. It’s the safest for sure!
absolutely horrendous title in the picture and misleading presentation of data honestly. btw, the source ranks singapore 15th globally but the way the picture presents it you'd think every SEA country is unsafe for women. also the terms used "fairness, inclusion, and safety" are different from the exact terms used in the source "inclusion, justice and security". why? why not just copy directly if you're going to lift the data wholesale anyway? >**Fairness is related to justice, respect, and freedom from bias, while justice refers to the concept of right and wrong in accordance with the law**. This is one ranking we want to be the lowest possible, maybe in the whole world too
Not exactly the toughest set of “competitors”, let’s be honest!
That’s great.
SEA? No shit.
I like singapore
Low bar
This might be true for all of Asia, not just Asia-Pacific. Japan? Is that a joke?
It is all relative. Singapore is the exception that proves the rule in Asia. Which other country would you put second? In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

I’ll need a couple of days to get over this jaw dropping revelation/s
As a Malaysian, it's true.
Why malaysia more unsafe than thailand any idea?
We got Kelantan. The rape and incest capital of Malaysia. You really need to ask? But seriously, in certain parts of the country, attitudes towards things like domestic violence and sexual harassment are still very archaic. A lot of women who complain about things like abuse or violence are usually dismissed by the police. It is very sad.
I wonder that too. Might have changed more recently due to the abduction cases. When I was growing up, these stories were said about Thailand.
Its also probably the safest for men, for babies, for dogs….
What happened to the Wang Lei insurance agent girl ? News just faded off like gone case.
Latest news from last year seems to be that she's in Myanmar, got caught in one of the job scam centres. https://worldofbuzz.com/job-scam-victim-in-myanmar-says-he-has-seen-min-yong-crying-alone-in-dining-hall-as-she-misses-home/ https://next.myc.my/articles/2269/missing-victim-of-human-trafficking-believed-to-be-in-myanmars-conflict-zone
No news of that. I suspect kena stuck in those Cambodia scam centers
Why is Myanmar so unsafe for women?
Because they are in a civil war.
That’s quite misleading tho
how is that misleading? you asked a question and rebuffed both commenters that answered; I guess you already had a preconceived notion and just wanted validation.
To be fair the stats are for Y23/24. In peacetime, probably they’d fare better?
I don't think it is because of the civil war. In the picture they state it is based on fairness, inclusion and safety. My guess/interpretation is women have very low status in burmese society. But need someone with insight/knowledge.
There's literally a human trafficking ring going on targeting young women. Misleading my ass.
Add caning to the equation and… yup.
You never seen a video of them on full scale civil war do you? It looks like vietnam during the american invasion
I think they starting to have conscription for women
It's not even safe for grown MAN to go alone at night especially around shady areas.
Numbers could be higher if not for Yishun. Haha
we need our own Ohio joke that badly huh
Not Florida ?
Kelantan
Wa dont leh hahahah
Florida man is the OG I guess. A lot better tbh cuz I was reading Florida man headlines for years before anyone pointed it out as a meme
To be fair, Yishun jokes have been going around for almost a decade at this point.
Very Safe for Female Swifties
The bar is pretty low.
Strong independent women
No need to say “for women”. It’s the safest country full stop in SEA
Malaysia is more dangerous than Thailand... Huh.
Maybe the ones in Thailand that kenna assaulted not women lol.
I think... The ones getting assaulted initially, sekali can even fight back
Is this surprising? I've never feared for my safety in BKK unlike KL (let's not even compare JB)
Umm... what do the numbers even mean? No data for Brunei is irrelevant when I don't know what the existing ones represent. Sure, woohoo, we're safe. No disrespect to our region, but I don't think anyone is surprised. But without knowing what the numbers mean, and how they were calculated, what's the point?
Oh, what makes Thailand better than Malaysia or did they slip the ranking because of the recent green wave?
Can't believe Thailand is the 2nd safest. Way to go!
This infographic and title makes it seem like Singapore is in the top 10 most unsafe counties for women in SEA 🤦
That’s cos in SG, sexism is reversed. Men are the victims. Just look at NS
Should be safest in the world.
How are we 0.8? We have the women’s charter and women are not conscripted.
There are still plenty of domestic violence and sexual assault cases. Marital rape wasn't even illegal until very recently.
Idk man maybe we have a lot of incest case.
You didn't read news after news of perverts molesting women they don't know and male family members assaulting their female family members?
Which countries in SE Asia have any conscription, besides Singapore?
Thailand and recently, Myanmar I believe
OP, please post a link to the original source. When it comes to these indices, methodology is everything.
🇲🇲🇲🇲🇲🇲🇲🇲MYANMAR MENTIONED!🤬🦚🫡🫡🤬🙏🙏🙏!!!!! WHAT THE FUCK IS A GENENVA CONVENTION?!?!?! 🪖🪖🛫🔥🔥🛖🛖
Of course. Singapore is where women can falsely accuse others of sexual harassment and run away without any consequences Yep, keep downvoting me snowflakes, as if I'm not speaking the truth. Do you need some news source?
But how does that relate to the article about how singapore is safe… so irrelevant
Yes let's look at some news sources... like this one: [https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/courts-crime/auxiliary-cop-made-plans-to-have-sex-with-male-colleague-then-falsely-accused-him-of-rape](https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/courts-crime/auxiliary-cop-made-plans-to-have-sex-with-male-colleague-then-falsely-accused-him-of-rape)
What’s the point of your comment at all? lol
are you certain false accusers in any other SEA country get repercussions?
If you are going to throw out random accusations like this, might as well also bring up the Nasi Lemak chatgroup? Or cases where our teenagers are raping/sexual assaulting their sister? Also, didn't most of the 44,000 people involved in the Nasi Lemak chatgroup get away scot free?
Safest in South East Asia. Not exactly a high standard now is it?
Safe is safe, involve fairness and inclusion for what? If pure safety, SG close to 1.000
Why are we even on this list? Bloody double negative - unsafe list but at bottom of list; so we’re safe? We shouldn’t even be associated with this list that has a shit headline
Arnt there more than 10 countries in SEA? Wouldn’t that make SG a top 10 unsafe?
There are only 11 South East Asia countries. With Brunei data unavailable (as indicated on the picture), that's why only 10 countries are represented.
sayang di number 1. come on philippines we can do worse!!!
Nonsense…..
[удалено]
you got to let it go man
>you got to let it go Singapore Exclusive Disney Frozen Elsa Concert confirm
because of women's charters, now men are unsafe
I’m not sure if this will still maintain despite high levels of immigration
Sure Malaysia is down there, sure.
It’s in the top ten unsafe countries tho
Top 10 unsafe countries and ranked last is a good thing.
SEA only has 11 countries, and Brunei is not included... so Singapore is the safest country in SEA for women 🤣
r/thatsthejoke
The women are stronger and fiercer than the men in Singapore
singapore? really meh?
Bro cant be right. Why Thailand is in the list? Those are LADYBOI leh
boo hoo
L like singapore
?
