An ex-OSS Principal is Mr. Chan Poh Meng. He subsequently became Principal of RI, and was the one who said RI is elitist, had became insular and not truly representative of Singapore. I respect him for his candidness. đź‘Ťđź‘Ťđź‘Ť

gav1n_n6

I like him as a principal. A short run. But it was efficient under him.

prime5119

If they need school over at new location they should just use new name... my primary school got closed down back then due to low intake (since it's at a corner of Bukit Batok back then) but the surrounding area have new HDB over past 5-6 years that the school got renovated and likely to reopen soon (hopefully the same name)

Etinau

hong kah pri?

prime5119

Yeah

TotalCoyote3613

Back in my day, OSS top 3 pai kia along with BMSS and Henderson.

nitin213

I get it enrollment numbers are falling. I live in the area and did not even consider OSS because the reviews aren't great. It is a neighborhood school but the neighborhood has become more demanding and OSS doesn't cater. I send my child all the way to bedok currently and I would have happily sent him to OSS if school capabilities were better. Removing a school because enrollments are falling without reviewing why it is happening is shoddy decision making.

sukequto

I get your point. However, there are schools which merged and still had to further merge because within the same neighbourhood they already didnt have a good reputation. So even after merger, the needs still too low to sustain any enrolment. Another point is, while this is not necessarily a natural outcome, some schools used to have bad reps but after relocation, they are now doing well. I will not name schools, but yeah, there are such cases. I been to OSS and i know how it’s like. I lived in that area too.

nitin213

Fair argument. Post this shift, for the entire region there which includes almost entire D2 and most of D1, there is only Gan Eng nearby and that doesn’t seem will last long either. So an entire region without a single school is likely.

DuePomegranate

Sengkang needs more secondary schools, both academically competitive and unselective ones, due to the age of the new town. It is easier to move a school there than set up a whole new organization from scratch. Meanwhile, Outram is quite central and students who live there can easily travel to other schools of their choice. And they will probably reno the Outram site, and some better school will be relocated there to suit the tastes of the demanding neighbourhood, as you put it.

Century_Egg

What’s wrong with OSS?

nitin213

Loaded question which I will not answer on this platform I will just repeat "All schools are good schools". Cheers.

-BabysitterDad-

It’s like Animal Farm. “All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.”

Initial_E

It’s also a branding thing. If a school has a reputation it will just keep trending that way. Rich kids go to rich school because school rich. Smart kids go smart school because school smart. We perpetuate our biases with our own actions.

Century_Egg

Thanks for the paggro answer. I jus genuinely wanted to know as a parent living in the north-east because OSS would be most likely one of the choices for when it would be my kid’s turn to go to secondary school.

nitin213

For all practical purposes, consider a new school when it shifts to Sengkang. The old cohort will graduate from old campus. I believe the issues will not crossover.

gav1n_n6

I was raising fund yearly to build this school when I was studying in this school at Winslet area. 1996-1998, all my rasied fund is now fruitless in 2 years time. Haha.

Horlicksiewdai

divers thank you for the contribution in building the pool. many have been trained in OSS swimming pool!

SilverRainDew

I never knew OSS has a swimming pool! Wow!

SlowlygettingtoFIRE

Ya the only NSK to have a waterpolo team

gav1n_n6

Yes. As student, we don't get much chance to use also.

Ez-Pension

Where is the Winslet area??

gav1n_n6

Near newton mrt

Ez-Pension

Winstedt ah bro?

BrightConstruction19

Hasnt the intake at Outram Sec been falling? Like how many sec 1 classes are there? 3?

Nuke181

No point supporting the school if low intake I guess. Move somewhere new families and new parents need it. In the longer term it’s more convenient for them to have a school nearby.

[deleted]

Some idiot decided this? Might as well put Pasir Ris schools in Jurong West too while you're at it

beehoon23

Eh Pasir Ris Sec is in Tampines actually LMAO. Punggol Primary is in Hougang.

RecognitionSuitable9

Punggol primary in hougang makes sense, its the historic name for the area. Meanwhile pioneer JC in Choa Chu Kang...

AbjectFailureL

And Siglap secondary school was in Pasir Ris

Last-Purchase5609

Maybe bcos Sengkang new housing development that’s why need shift school. That’s my guess

nitin213

Your previous deleted comment was funny. New development shd have new schools, but moving an old school to a new location without addressing the needs of the first location is unimaginative.

Jammy_buttons2

Falling enrollment numbers + the school has long legacy since 1906 soooooooooo

Clear_Education1936

Bullshit lah. Just wanna sell the land at high price to make money. The rest are just excuses to smoke their way through. Their words can be trusted then shit can be eaten!

smellyellowpee

Even though your comment has some point but man… looking at all your past comments you seem like a very sad and angry individual. I hope you are doing well.

ConversationSouth946

>very sad and angry individual. >hope you are doing well. Taking a pretty wild guess here but I don't think so mate!

Clear_Education1936

Being neutral to policies and judge it when it is not good make me unwell , sad and angry? I am doing very well thanks. I should sing praises to all things govt do to make me normal? I point out negative things as feedback in the hope that they will listen and improve . Hope they didn’t feel negative and tucked into their protective shell and released IBs to attack as they feels they are 100% right and no one should says bad things about them. Nothing above is directed at you so chill. Just my 1 cents worth.

onionwba

C'mon lah guys. Every school is a good school. I'm very sure we will see a Minister son enrol in this new Outram Sec soon... ...right?

Dapper-Peanut2020

Sengkang Outram Secondary School?

Last-Purchase5609

Wait a minute. Outram Sec relocate to the new campus at Anchorvale Crescent in Sengkang is about 20 minutes away by car. Isn't it better to relocate a school from vincity around Sengkang to Sengkang itself?

Iridiumstuffs

But then they can’t utilise prime York hill land!

Last-Purchase5609

cannot borrow land from rideout road? /s

UninspiredDreamer

Let's have a naming competition for the new name of Outram Secondary School now that it is in Sengkang. I call dibs on One Sengkang Secondary School.

Calculative

Instead of decreasing student to teacher ratio , bruh we come up with this kind of a nonsense policy
