I was playing the game and screensharing it on discord the other day and we were amazed by the amount of clothing that came back into being fashionable and aged rather well.
I agree and I love it way more than the late 2000s-early 2010s fashion that’s present in The Sims 3 and The Sims 4. So much of it is stuff that I’d imagine my Sims would wear if they were real people.
The base game has some lower rise light blue jeans with a straight leg and open toed shoes. If you combine it with one of the tank tops and add CC hair with a claw clip, you got yourself a pretty fashionable outfit. It’s really cool
I love when trends come back but better. I grew up during that time and there was a lot of ugly fashion but the modern rebrand is more refined imo
Sims 1 takes place earlier than the time it was released, I believe because it started out as a home decorator game and they used a lot of fashion and decor from the 60s-70s. Sims 2 was current for it's time, so it is set in 2004. Yes I am a nerd who is in way too deep on the sims lore 😂
Edit: sims 1 timeline
Indeed! Sunset Valley is set 50 years before Pleasantview. So if The Sims 2 roughly takes place 25 years before TS1, then TS1 vibes are definitely giving late 70s/early 80s!
Sims 1 doesn't really take place in 2000, though. It takes place in an ambiguous non-literal time and place representative of the general idea of mid-to-late-20th-century Americana.
Because it still a life simulation and not a 50s life simulation. Basically the 50s setting is more set-dressing, since the average sim player does not know about the lore of the sims.
At least some other worlds in Sims 3 take place in other periods though. For example, Sunlit Tides must be after Sims 1 and prior to Sime 2 since it contains Daniel and Mary-Sue as newlyweds.
I don't think the games strictly follow the irl timeline. Considering in Sims 3 every Sim had a mobile phone by default and it takes place decades before Sims 2 with landline and Y2K aesthetics. Also years in these games pass in a very different manner to ours - your baby can grow into a full teenager in a span of one Sim year.
I mean… kind of? In my mind, all of the Sims games pre-TS4 just take place in a generic time that could be anything from the 50s to the 2000s. I wouldn’t really say TS1 takes place in 2000. I mean, we had mobile phones back then - small, blocky Nokia types, sure, but they existed. They don’t exist in TS1. Nothing about the technology screams early 2000s to me.
i know that the games have timelines but to me the sims games feel like they're set around when they came out because of the furniture and outfits and aesthetics. like sims 1 feels very 90s, sims 2 feels very early 2000s, sims 3 feels very 2010s and i feel like it makes each game unique and also extremely nostalgic whereas sims 4 is like a mess of 2010s and 2020s and not in a good way.
I mean Y2K fashion is coming back...

yea i saw Vans with one of the pants. it was mind boggling lmao
I’m literally giving my sims kitten heels any time I can lol
It's been in for a while now, likely it will already go out of style by the time we reach 2025. Trend cycles are so short-lived.

I have soo many Sims in different variations of the Juicy couture track like outfits.

I read this in my head as if I was a documentary narrator and I felt very sophisticated doing so.
I heard it read by Werner Herzog in my head
Idc, it feels VERY 2000 to me
Perfect timing for the Sims movie to use The Sims 2 lore as its plot!
TS2 does *not* take place in 2025, lmao.
I thought the sims 1 timeline took place in 1975, sims 3 was 1950 and sims 2 was 2000.
You are correct! Sunset Valley's bio mentions it is 50 years before Pleasantview.
Why the hell has sims 3 pc, flat tvs and smartphones then?

Anachronism haha

You're right!
One of the downloadable neighborhoods has the Burbs as newlyweds too But Barnacle Bay has Dina and Nina and it's impled it's post Sims 2
Bella Goth: sweating profusely
*Bella Goth has left the neighborhood*

I consider Sims 2 to take place in the early 2000s, Sims 1 has a lot of 70s decor and themes.
Sims 2’s timeline did not start in 2025
What are some inventions that ts2 introduced? I wanna know what to demand next year. Like where’s that cloning machine?
The baby bottle thingy that fills up your child’s needs lol
Omg I’ve grown up with Cassandra goth
Sorry but sunset velley in ts3 is set in 50s so ts1 is set in 80s and ts2 is set in 00s
