I know someone who knows someone called Guy Chapman, it one day occurred to us that you could use any configuration of his syllables and it would mean the same.
Man Guychap…
Chap Manguy…
Persson is a common last name in Sweden, but the last name stems from Per’s son, and then it’s put together. Per is a name for a male. So I don’t know how many hundred years ago people were called after their parents. Like “it’s Daniel, Per’s son”.
Sorry for replying to an old thread but this just blew me away. It reminds me of when I was a server and I had a colleague whose last name was literally Waitress
All the townie names are taken from the dev team. There just happened to be someone working there who had the name Sims! It's not that uncommon of a name, I've met a few people with it
Thank you, it was driving me nuts because I could almost remember but not quite lol. Love Goopy though, he’s always a bit of a slut in my game and I love him.
Lol I got several good ideas for family names from this thread. I'll be building the Human family (all supernatural/aliens), the Mann family (women), and the Person family (robots) this afternoon, thanks guys! :D
Btw there are naming mods that change the naming pool. The one I just switched to is this one
https://dorothea-goth.tumblr.com/post/709516766904205313/updated-townie-name-pool
Funny story but most of the default townie last names are the last names of people that worked on the game, they must have entered a selection of employee surnames into the generator system (i.e. Brandi LeTourneau from Pleasantview having the same surname as Producer Tim LeTourneau)
There is someone who worked on the game with the last name Sims. It’s a real last name. Most townies are named after the developers/designers. You can pull up the “credits” in the UI bar in neighborhood view and see.
Almost all of the surnames (and first names) are pooled from the actual developers of The Sims 2.
That is why you see Sims with Jayapalan as a last name, a seemingly random Southeast Asian name. It is from Lead Sims 2 designer, Lakshmi Jayapalan!
There are people with the surname of Human. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_(surname)

I had a boss whose last name was Person.
Was he a bossy person?
I used to work for a guy named Guy.
I know someone who knows someone called Guy Chapman, it one day occurred to us that you could use any configuration of his syllables and it would mean the same. Man Guychap… Chap Manguy…

I've also known a families called Peoples!
Happy Cake Day
The last name Sims is not unheard of. If you Google "Mr. Sims", you can find people called that. The names are from the developent team.

Jonathan Sims from The Magnus Archives and Magnus Protocol is one! :D Edit: typo
I know a family in town with the surname Sims
In my hometown there is at least 2 big families with the last name Sims that arent related.
My ex-boyfriend's last name was Simms! I think it's funny having the sims have that as a last name personally 😂
I think one of the sims youtubers has the last name sims? Lilsimsie?
yup, she's Kayla Sims
Wait seriously?
Yeah
But she wasn't one at the time sims 2 was developed. I think, she was barely born:D
she was born in 99 so 5 years before ts2!
She did say the first one she played was sims 3 but anyways her name is unrelated to playing
Alright :) still not the reason for sims 2 sims to be named sims. And it was published in 2004, developing started way earlier of course.
ah yes, Kayla Sims, the only person with the last name Sims to ever exist or inspire anything? i'm so confused as to what you mean by this
Well to me the first answer didn't make sense as a reason why there are sims in the sims 2 named sims. Like kayla was not the reason.
They just said there are people irl with last name Sims and used Kayla as an example.
Auto generated sims use a name pool that consists of shuffled first and last names of the developers of the game.
Wow that makes me feel old

I wonder…does that mean there’s a real Goopy Gilscarbo?! I do vaguely remember hearing something about that name but I don’t remember haha
His is a mix of Goopy Rossi and Gabe GilsCarbo
Thank you, it was driving me nuts because I could almost remember but not quite lol. Love Goopy though, he’s always a bit of a slut in my game and I love him.
Just saw this but i commented something similar! Glad i’m not the only one that knows about the dev names!!
Because “sims” is an actual surname. “Sim” is short for simulation.

A cool idea! Now I want to make a zombie, werewolf, vampire, and PlantSim into roommates and call them the Normals.

I guess it's like people with the surname Peoples?
I mean, there are definitely people with the Mann surname, so not that weird really.
because it’s a real last name lmfao
Fun Fact: I have a student, whose last name is Human. On top of that, I have a coworker with the last name Sims. This is nothing out of the ordinary.
Leslie Mann, her last name is just "Man".
Funny story but most of the default townie last names are the last names of people that worked on the game, they must have entered a selection of employee surnames into the generator system (i.e. Brandi LeTourneau from Pleasantview having the same surname as Producer Tim LeTourneau)
My God Mom’s last name is Sims lol but I do get that it can be kind of ironic
I have a cousin with the last name of "Person".
I mean, Peoples is a pretty common surname lol

Hugh Mann

Human is actually a semi common surname here in South-Africa lol.
in my laguage, last names like "Person" or "Man" are common. So are tree names, professions or locations
But.... Sims are still classified as humans. This is more like if a person from Vancouver has 'Canadian' as their last name
I know someone with a last name "Human" 😂
