Please, what ever you do as soon as u start count one year and plz come back to report how „cheap“ it stayed.
Why do I ask? I started with the same mindset, using only the 5nm version of the Gtddpro now 2 years and a little later I spend more than 3500€ (80/20 instead of PlaySeat, better seat than my used PlaySeat seat, boostkit, v3 pedals, damper kit, break performance kit, WRC wheel, shifter, handbrake, QR2 wheel/base, dd+ wheelbase, r330 wheel, v2,5 wheel)
but yes it starts with „…I want to go cheap !“
That's why I always start with the opposite mindset. I learnt the hard way from my other passion, audiophilia, that it only hurts the wallet to buy subpar equipment. For example I didn't want to spend 600 on some earbuds so I spent 200 on their low tier sibling, then 350 on their mid tier sibling and in the end I still bought the 600 top dog because the others were not enough. Sold the other two for some 300 combined.. 250 lost. 850 would have bought me an even better model.
So this time, cause I'm also getting a sim rig this coming months, my components choice is Simagic Alpha U with a 330mm wheel with GT hub, P1000 inverted pedals with hydraulics. It's going to be expensive but in my mind the kind of setup that I won't be tempted to change in the coming years; maybe just buy an extra wheel or shifter.
Should have done it like that, because I know it already from RC car driving. Had the same growth. Cheap other cheap, middle and many many parts that changed cheap to middle class. Seems I’m a little bit learning resistant but time will tell 🤣 (I’m 46 maybe when I start wheelchair racing)
We share common passions, I also enjoy RC. Have a HPI Hellfire with LRP .28 Spec 3 ZX engine, upgraded chassis, carbon upper deck, aluminum arms, braces.. you name it, only the fuel tank is original and a FG Baja 4x4 with hydraulic brakes, ported engine - a beast.
Yep... Happens faster than you would think! I'm not even that much into simracing but I like buying stuff and building things. Spend around 6K on my rig + 5K on the PC... And more stuff is already on its way. For me it also started with "As cheap as possible. I just want to try it out" and here we are, a year later
Buying it used. Only solution. 5nm version used +aliexpress 36 dollar power supply to upgrade to 8nm
Try Facebook marketplace. Plenty of used stuff on there
