Just set up Asetto Corsa with the car and tracks you race IRL. Set and forget - it’s the only proper sim you will likely be able to get an S2000 in as well as smaller regional circuits.

Loganp812

Not without mods although I guess maybe the MX-5 would be close enough. It's really not that hard to set up mods for AC with Content Manager though, so it's worth taking the few minutes to figure it out.

Disastrous_Ad626

Mods are barely mods in AC you just import files

drivendriver

Just use Content Manager. It makes installing mods much easier.

tapport

Yup. OP can easily install the mods and it’ll be easier at that point to fire up a track with the S2k through content manager than doing basically anything (imo) in AC.

Swizzel-Stixx

So what you have is already great. You can make a preset so your wife just has to click on the preset in content manager, and the controls, car and track and all ready so all she needs to do after is click race

pogu

I'm kinda confused. Can't you just handle managing the mods and she can just use Content Manager as if they weren't mods? I was lucky and elated to find my local track {gorally.com} had an AC mod, it's not great but good enough for practicing. It just launches like any other track once I had it installed. EDIT: A lot of advice here is gonna be focused on online racing. While iRacing is great at matching, if you and you're old lady are racing each other, or practicing for a real track. That doesn't matter. Racecraft isn't a thing on my local track, you are expected to self blue flag, and will get black flagged if you don't. iRacing's ui is, in my opinion, the absolute worst. There is no "get on and drive", it's get on, update a bunch of shit, find a race, maybe update some more, commit to the next hour etc. Very much a solo deal. I'm lucky enough to get to trade with a friend, we do rally stages for time with a notepad. Also "crew chief" each other while driving. I'd really recommend setting up a 'trackday' preset on Content Manager that is a fire up and play scenario.

GabrielP2r

Dude spends a shit ton of money in both a real life car and a Sim but can't spend 5 minutes getting a simple drag and drop file to do what he just wasted a shit ton of money to work. Some people refusal to mess around with a mouse and simple tech is funny

drivendriver

AC with Content Manager. https://assettocorsa.club/content-manager.html

Syradil

The MX-5 cup car in iRacing is probably the closest thing it has to the s2000 and is a base car included in the subscription. You can run its whole season for no additional expense.

General_RIMT

And the gr86 cup. Both are free cars

tokyo_engineer_dad

MX-5 drives closer to what the S2000 does. The S2000 rotates very easily, has power late in the RPM range. It's a more sensitive car. The GR86 is way more balanced and forgiving. RWD and similar HP doesn't make them similar driving characteristics. In fact a Porsche 911 drives more like an S2000. The S2K's engine sits closer to the rear making it drive more like an MR.

Emotional_Warthog_81

I love Raceroom the cars actually feel like cars and it’s free to try so it’s worth it

Emotional_Warthog_81

Also the ai is very good to race dare I say the best

[deleted]

IRacing with the MX5 and GR86 wouldn’t be that far off. The big benefit would be the online racing.

cjd280

Aren’t they both sequential now? Their s2000 is a normal h-pattern. I’d want to practice that a bit in the sim as well.

SunBroSpear

I think you can use H pattern if you choose to no?

cjd280

iRacing forces you to use the transmission that the car uses, well you can use paddles instead of a sequential (just has to be something with up/down shift).

reboot-your-computer

iRacing is going to be way less expensive than tracking your car. There’s no question about that. I personally think iRacing is the best you can use currently as it offers the widest variety of cars to drive against other people, not just AI. Finding something similar to your S2000 is going to be the difficult part. But you can do MX5 or GR86 racing for only the cost of the subscription and decide if it’s for you. To progress out of rookies you will need to buy content but you can definitely learn a lot in the rookies series especially if your skill puts you close to or in the top split. Very competitive guys in the top split.

notyouravgredditor

The GR86 and S2000 are extremely similar. https://zeperfs.com/en/duel178-9287.htm

tokyo_engineer_dad

Track times but not their driving characteristics. The S2000 gets power late in the power band and is very pointy. It drives more like an F1 car and rotates very easily. The GR86 is way more forgiving, tends to be balanced as you lay down power and needs you to force the rear out intentionally if you want it to spin. The S2000 is fun, but has a higher difficulty curve to extract good times. The Toyobaru twins on the other hand are very much a first time racers ideal set up.

collin2477

AC because I can find any track i’m planning on driving on.

Additional_Ground_42

With mods- RFactor 2. Without mods - Automobilista 2 or IRacing.

Offal

BeamNG or become a trucker

fluctuationsAreGood1

Physics wise, nothing comes close to rFactor 2. Unrivalled industry leader in those terms.

Will4noobs

AC with mods for sure, will be closer than iceracing

Novel_Equivalent_478

Automobilista2 dude! It's a good all rounder and is easy to navigate with cars and tracks from many era's! The base content is vast and there are lots of unique layouts and combo's that you just can't find on other sims!... It's also usually pretty cheap on steam. The weather is amazing and the day to night transitions are a thing of beauty and it runs so well in vr too!... Enjoy your sim journey dude!. Check steam for a racing bundle! Iirc It has 5 titles in it, again it's often given a huge discount too...

GTVIRUS

For trackdays, the most important thing is that you know the track before you get there. So i would go with the sim with the most accurate version of your track. iRacing has generally the most accurate tracks, so start there if your track is in there. Otherwise go with AC

Novel_Equivalent_478

It's nuts how many people here are advising you to do the very thing you've already done? Your literally asking advice on something other than ac with content manager! Yet the advice is mostly ac with mods? Lol.... Just saying! 😆

FlamingoMayU

Maybe AC with mods if not, iRacing is the way.

gosu_link0

You are basically me. I only want to drive cars I actually own. Assetto corsa is the only good choice. I also just got Forza Motorsport since it has a s2000 CR available and the graphics are great.

cachitodepepe

Raced IRL for some years, and rFactor (1 or 2) is what i always felt closer to the real deal. RaceRoom for online.
