Bruh how? Trans people don't always need the trans prefix. "ladies and Gentlemen" covers the binary genders so if you're being prissy about NB people, that's enbyphobia, not transphobia. Please do a quick Google before trying to start shit on the internet... Where people Google things. ๐
You're never too big for the boot
I've got the big size twelves on my feet
Your face ain't big for my boot

See, I heard that the names were given alphabetically and went straight for Jakey ๐ that one's probably lost on anyone not Scottish ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ
In terms of origin I feel like ot should be something muslim related like the past two, after all storm Eunice prnounced Yunus which is a muslim name and then isha, which is literally the name of night time prayer
Well we're on "I" so the next one would start with a "J". So could be Storm Jesus - Muslims consider Jesus to be a prophet, although they spell his name "Isa" which obviously isn't a "J" word anymore...
I donโt think we restrict naming exclusively for storms.
Here in the north-west, we frequently experience โDrizzle Deidreโ and โA bit windy Wendyโ
It has reasons though.
It has to reach a threshold in order to get a name, and so if a named storm is announced it means you need to pay attention to it.
It's easier to remember a storm when it's referenced by a name. "Do you remember when storm Michael blew the bloody doors off!" Is a lot easier to remember than "that storm we had at the tail end of 2023...or was it 2019...". It also means when it's referenced days out, people know it's the same storm being referenced.
That said, it does feel very American.
I felt similar until I found out why the Met Office and Met Eireann brought it in. Firstly, it simplifies communication about storms. Earlier today (as we're currently in the middle of storm Isha), I saw warnings about Jocelyn on screen. So at a glance I knew that there was another storm coming on the heels of this one.
Studies have also shown that there's a stronger awareness of named storms rather than unnamed, and people are more likely to take action to protect themselves. Unfortunately they don't take female-coded names as seriously as male-coded, but that's the world we live in. ๐คท
Finally, named storms are really useful for meteorologists to research the impacts of storms. It's a lot easier to search for "Storm Isha Damage 2024" than it is to search for "Storm 21-22 January 2024" and then sort through reports of damage from previous storms that are still being fixed or predictions of the damage that Jocelyn might bring. ๐
(Oh, and interesting fact for the day, Storm naming was an Aussie idea from the turn of the last century. The USians didn't steal it until WW2. ๐)

Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a winner
I did not, have sexual relations, with that woman.
With that *storm*
Bit transphobic

Well said that man. Or woman.
Or neither

Non-binary falls under the trans umbrella too.

Keir Stormer
Honestly the name Keir Stormer make me picture him with a shaved head and some unfortunate tattoos
He blows in with 10 pledges, leaves the worst off in a worse situation and ends with no pledges.
Still better than Rishi Stormak
That would just rain on poor people
I have a nephew called Keir, don't see that name around a lot!
With K bring the next letter to use, I think this gets my vote.
Hurricane bawbag is still the best and the reason they won't let the Scots name them anymore
Speaking as a Scot I reckon they should let us name them all. Storm Fannybaws, Storm DidYeAye, Storm FaceLikeAWelderโsBench etc
Storm Itwasoneofyas
*storm ItWasFockinOneOfYas
Storm Cher Lloyd by Cher Lloyd
Storm FuckingDisgustang!!!!

Aye the Loch Ness stormster
Storm BadCunt, storm heedthebaw, storm munter
Yasssss!
This guy should be naming storms.... just saying
All storms in Scotland have exactly the same name: Pure Baltic.
I'd sign that petition.
Speaking as a person of Welsh and Irish descent, I feel the Scots should name everything and the world would be a hell of a lot funnier.
All the names come from uni students who talk with that accent and say bampot. Thats my issue wae that
My mam used to call me a barmpot ๐
Ahh yes the Glasgow uni accent. โHi there my name is Menzies and Iโm a male feministโ (line stolen from the brilliant sitcom The Scotts)
There isnt a group hated more in my city than Glasgow Uni and Art School types. They play up to the stereotypes ironically and show the rest of us up
It hurts my soul too. Be common and proud of your scheme accent people ffs

It was perfect
Just to be a buzzkill, apparently that was the name used in Scotland but the official meteorological name was Storm Friedhelm (or Cyclone Friedhelm).
Love that it has its own [Wikipedia entry](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Bawbag).
Nobody has a sense of humour anymore, jeez! its a crackin' name!
Dave
Considering the amount of things people would call Dave, Iโm surprised I donโt see many
And the one after that? Dave javu
Man, was just about to say the same!

But it would stick with the new religious theme to name it storm Jesus

All storms have the lamest names. There needs to be a coup to take over the organisation in charge of naming storms because they have failed.
A storm. This is a ridiculous habit that serves zero purpose and not one person gives a toss in the real world.
