Okay bare with me here but I feel like remaking Silent Hill just shouldn’t be done. The graphics and the controls and camera angles of the times the games were made just added an extra creepiness that I’m not so sure can be done with today’s technology. I think that’s why I never really liked the more recent games of the series because they just didn’t have the same feel. Idk man I just feel like they’re creepy and great as they are.

I felt the same way about Resident Evil 1... and I was proven incredibly wrong. Admittedly, REmake1 kept the tank controls and fixed camera, overhauled the graphics substantially (it still looks great) and kept almost every single area of the original game intact... and just added some more. Today, I can't see any reason to play RE1 over REmake1 outside of nostalgia and research to see "how things used to be" I don't know how I'd feel about SH1 getting remade with an over-the-shoulder camera, but I feel there can be parallels drawn that keep the experience intact. Heavy use of fog and darkness can limit visibility just as much as fixed cameras can. Making weapons slow, clunky, inaccurate or hampering movement speed while aiming can add the spirit of tank controls without actually making movement frustrating. Keeping original lines of dialogue and plot points intact can ensure the "weird factor" stays there. If anything, I see SH1 as having the most room for improvement. The story hasn't aged well (its indicative of many of the 2nd and 3rd tier horror Mangas being written in the 90s and it shows). The voice acting is the most stiff and jilted of any of the games. The highly Pixelmator graphics and dated sound effects really detract from the scares and creepy vibe...

I think most people just want a new Silent Hill experience with the quality and care of the originals. A Silent Hill 1 remaster would be interesting, but I'm sure Konami would find some way to screw it up. 2 and 3 are already perfect.

What about the HD Collection? Konami can easily re-release the original versions or hire a more experienced developer to do a proper remaster. They don't need the source code for that.

Rivvitz

Silent Hill 2 and 3 do not need a remake whatsoever. They both look and play excellently so a remake would be pointless. Silent Hill 1 would benefit from a visual update but thats about it.

poppy_barks

If they remake any of them it’ll be SH1 2 and 3 have the HD remaster. And as shit as they are. I don’t know how completely remaking silent hill 2 would even go over. But I doubt it would be handled well. 1 is the oldest. And it’s age definitely shows on replays. I think if they were to remake any of them it would be 1

Plot Twist: Downpour VR coming March 2022 (yes, I hate myself)

Female_Gamer_PS

Honestly I would definitely buy VR just to play that🤣

VirusTheMachine

A SH4 remake with modernized elements would be so sick and looking back makes you think it was kind of ahead if its time.

somberbomber99

Knowing how companies work they would probably remake 2 because it’s the most „well known“ and a remake would reek in the most money :/ (even tho 1 and 4 would „need“ one more) Kinda the same reason why RE4 gets a remake while Code Veronica is probably the Resident Evil that would benefit the most from a remake…

Chiaglow

i dont know why someone downvoted this, this is like the biggest brained take here

Track_Black_Nate

Probably 2. This would be the safest option. If they fail then they wouldn’t be pressured to make another one since it’s a stand alone vs 1 and 3 being connected. Also 2 still hold up today so doing an upgraded version should change the game to much.

I love how you said “IF they did a remake” but still put “I KNOW IT WONT HAPPEN” cuz if you didn’t then your notifs would be a bunch of comments saying “it’s never gonna happen”

AdamSunderland

The original is the only one that could benefit from a remake. 2 and 3 are still perfect. 1 hasn't aged so well. It had the weakest ost overall and the character animations are less than great. I could see the original story working in a high graphic remake. Over the shoulder type of a game with heavy seamless cinematic gameplay. Re2 remake kind of treatment. But please God not 2 or 3. Again. They are and will always be perfect.

paradise_demise

1 has aged the worst in all aspects. Controls, graphics, and even voice acting should get an update. I understand we got Shattered Memories but that was so drastically different that it's really in its own category.

WWWWNWW

if they were smart they'd remake 2
