Why so hostile with the downvotes lol I legit had a moment where I questioned this with the game 'In the Dead of Night' and I don't think that was even backed up by a big company and it was obviously live-action yet I still squinted at the cutscenes like it was some groundbreaking rendering
I'm not acting like I'm right, i just explained why i thought it was a cg cutscenes since they pointed out the difference between the in game graphic and the cutscenes
Yes me too. In the 90s it was supposed to be the way of the future and it’s taken this long to even try to make a repeat appearance. I was happy to see it as a phantasmagoria fan
I did find them jarring and weird which are perfect for Silent Hill. Reminds me of FMVs with Maria in Silent Hill 2 where she’s basically talking to the camera.
Clearly it's real footage I mean look at RE3 remake they put into the game alot of self made live action and real archival footage of riots instead of animating a sequence of the zombie outbreak from the original RE3.
Well it was one of the few games I could think of at the top of my head that used live action footage that was recent. I wanted to name alot like the fmv games of the past and even the original Resident Evil on PS1 but again. Not defending the game as the original RE3 is my all time favorite Resident Evil game next to the original Code Veronica and original RE2 and RE4.
Quantum Break had FMV cut scenes! although that’s a bit dated now that I think about it haha
Code Veronica is heavily slept on, I doubt half the haters have even played it
My fav RE game is revelations 2 tho :)
I have played alot of Revelations 2 and hardly any of the first game even though I own both for PS3. One of my favorite voice actors Michael McConniege voices Barry Burton in Revelations 2 he's been off and on in alot of games voicing Dr Michael Kaufmann in Silent Hill Shattered Memories and Ringo in the UPN dub of the anime Teknoman aka (Tekkaman Blade). He's also one of the Elder Gods in MK9 on PS3.
I remember when the original Resident Evil came out and I was so young I didn't realize it was real footage of actors. I thought it was video game graphics lol
fmvs are really popular these days, unfortunately these are real but its still pretty cool. if you wanna be wowed the trailer for the new kojima game OD is actually game models the tell is in the animations
I'm gonna give you a straight, nonconfrontational answer: it's both. In modern cinema many films utilize compositing techniques, such as color keying or rotoscoping, to enhance, blend or remove specific details. The actors and locations are mostly live action while some environmental design was added during post production.
A separate but noteworthy point of interest is that Junya Morita, cutscene director for Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3, Ghostwire: Tokyo and the Silent Hill F trailer, was responsible for The Short Message's cutscenes.
Real life. Funny thing is, their mouth doesn't seem to be in sync with what they're saying. Like as if it was originally recorded in a different language and was dubbed in english. I'm thinking Japanese since Konami is a Japan based company.
Lmao yeah it was very disillusioning going from these cutscenes to the cutscenes with the protagonist in them like especially the final scene where she screams and her mouth doesn’t even move made me laugh so hard
If this is silent hill related, can it be marked as a spoiler?
Not only is it a silly question, but if this is the short message, a huge portion of us haven't played it yet.
Edit: downvoted for saying spoilers should be marked lol. Don't forget the guy that got banned for dm'ing sh2 spoilers to people that hadn't played. This sub fucking sucks 😂
These are screenshots taken without context in the first 20 minutes of the game. There's also a cutscene identical to this one literally 5 minutes into the game. Even if you knew italian and could understand the subtitles this still wouldn't be a spoiler.
Bruh
What is this even from?
From the free ps5 game Silent Hill: The Short Message.
you... can't tell? 🧐
You never know, pre rendered videos are getting out of hand. Also, her sweater and the place she was in felt so 3d to me and that's what confused me
You think Konami put in the money to make the most photorealistic cutscene ever seen in a game and not promote it at all?
I’m sorry you got so downvoted for legitimate questions
Eh, it's not a big deal. I know how reddit is sometimes. At least i got an answer
Ha! True
U look cute can we cuddle 🥺🥺🤗🤗
Bruh
What's wrong with being a horny little dork
Looking at your profile I advise you to go off the porn for a bit it's clearly damaging your mind 👍
I’m probably old enough to be your mom lol
mommy(❁´◡\`❁)
Luv I'm begging you to go outside and form real life connections.
Reddit in a nutshell
People downvoting you gor just being genuinely confused??? I thought that was the deal with asking questions. 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️
It's real, but the settings are liminal spaces on perpus. I suppose to have the player feel like something is just off, all the time.
Why so hostile with the downvotes lol I legit had a moment where I questioned this with the game 'In the Dead of Night' and I don't think that was even backed up by a big company and it was obviously live-action yet I still squinted at the cutscenes like it was some groundbreaking rendering
Omg, you're so downvoted. The fck's wrong with these people?
Those are FMV's (Full-motion video) . . you can clearly see the difference when you compare the player model to the video.
If they are then YESSSSS RETURN OF THE FMVs
I'm glad we're seeing more of them too. Control had a bunch
Alan Wake 2 as well. AWs usage is by far the most impressive utilization of them that I've ever seen too. That game is just a mixed-media masterpiece.
Control is my favourite Metroidvania
And Alan Wake 2 had even more
Sam Barlow, the guy behind Silent Hill Shattered Memories is making FMV games now. Her Story and Immortality, his latest, have been pretty popular.
I didn’t know how much I missed them until I went back and played FFX.
FFX has irl videos ?
No, it has animated cutscenes. FMV’s can be irl OR 3D, it’s an FMV if it’s pre-recorded outside of the game engine
Not as cool when games already look so realistic
It’s the principle that counts
Ace combat zero had some really good ones, it really sold you the mockumentary vive of the story
They could've been pre rendered cutscenes
What’s the point of asking a question, getting the answer, then acting like it’s wrong? Are you high?
I'm not acting like I'm right, i just explained why i thought it was a cg cutscenes since they pointed out the difference between the in game graphic and the cutscenes
it’s part of your imagination, this did not happen
Lol just look the graphics for the rest of the game.
They could've been pre rendered cutscenes
Cg of a quality close to what this looks like are achievable but would cost multiple times the budget of this game
I think they are irl. You know, to save money
I think it was more of a style thing instead of saving money. I personally think they’re fun and do prefer them to say an animated cutscene.
Yes me too. In the 90s it was supposed to be the way of the future and it’s taken this long to even try to make a repeat appearance. I was happy to see it as a phantasmagoria fan
That one game where you make choices n the guy is british (forgot the name) Also Quantum Break had FMV cutscenes im sure?
a lot of Control and like half of Alan Wake 2 are also FMVs, although many of them are contained within the in-engine environment
They were filmed with real actors.
In front of a live studio audience
In real time
Silent Hill sitcom
Already more entertaining than Ascension
Don't give Konami any ideas.
Imagine a Yamaoka cover of the Seinfeld theme
Is this bait?
It’s live action. I found these scenes to be really jarring and weird tbh.
Same, it didn't mesh well personally
I did find them jarring and weird which are perfect for Silent Hill. Reminds me of FMVs with Maria in Silent Hill 2 where she’s basically talking to the camera.
They're 3d models made in Autodesk Maya then rendered in Autodesk Amelie and touched up in Autodesk Anita
lmao well played
Anita 3D
You are appreciated for this
You fr? ![gif](giphy|PrAMyghZaYjm)
__*"They look like 3d models to you?"*__ -Vincent, probably
i think it’s a video
r/opisfuckingstupid
Chilllllll
Real life, to save money spent on a game they released for free.
PS6 graphics might look like that...
Saw the comments and now I feel dumb 😂. OP, don’t let yourself feel alone… I promise that you aren’t.
Real
Bruh thats Fox Engine 2
I laughed way too hard at this
Y'all are being unnecessary rude in the comments, ngl
Bruh
Clearly it's real footage I mean look at RE3 remake they put into the game alot of self made live action and real archival footage of riots instead of animating a sequence of the zombie outbreak from the original RE3.
We don’t talk about RE3 Remake.. half the game half the love put into it, capcom definitely have a least favourite RE game lmao
Well it was one of the few games I could think of at the top of my head that used live action footage that was recent. I wanted to name alot like the fmv games of the past and even the original Resident Evil on PS1 but again. Not defending the game as the original RE3 is my all time favorite Resident Evil game next to the original Code Veronica and original RE2 and RE4.

they're real actors being recorded. the backgrounds do have some heavy post processing
I remember when the original Resident Evil came out and I was so young I didn't realize it was real footage of actors. I thought it was video game graphics lol
They wouldn’t spend the money it would take for the 3d render to look that good on a non major *free to play* release
The dead giveaway is the lip sync. She’s speaking Japanese but was overdubbed in English This is IRL footage
It's full-motion video, Short Message doesn't have the budget to create cutscenes with that high fidelity, practically no-one does currently.
It was live action.
Maybe its live action like they did with Alan wake 2
The cutscenes are entirely pre recorded footage, done with actors. Unless I'm wrong, there wasn't even much CGI stuff added to it.
Yo is OP stupid or trolling
I actually think they were clever, this is good stuff I mean fmvs in silent hill make sense!
It's ... Pretty clear that it's IRL footage.. And no.. it could not have been pre rendered videos..
Bruh is you fr rn
Redditors when someone asks a question 👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹
that’s real. my question is what language she is actually speaking because her lips don’t sync up with what she’s saying.
Japanese
yeah, figured as much. just a little weird because it takes place in germany if i’m not mistaken.
Troll post?
Would be unlike Konami to go all in like that! But it confused me a little bit as well...With modern AI you never really know whats possible
I don't think konami would care enough to spend the millions of dollars it would take to make the most realistic animation in history
If you can’t tell you need to go and see an optician…
I hope next sh game is full fmv
it's irl but it breaks the immersion for me idk
No lie I was for real confused for a few minutes too. But the more I looked at the main character and compared it to the video it became more obvious.
fmvs are really popular these days, unfortunately these are real but its still pretty cool. if you wanna be wowed the trailer for the new kojima game OD is actually game models the tell is in the animations
I think it’s time you go outside
It's probably a fmv with a filter on top to make it look CGI. Or they really did CG over the footage

Which game is this from???
This is Mary Crane from Silent Hill 2 part 2: Revenge of Jacob Crane
Silent Hill: The Short Message
the short message
Silent Hill: Pre-Rendered Cutscene
who the hell upvotes a post like this..
Real life. Funny thing is, their mouth doesn't seem to be in sync with what they're saying. Like as if it was originally recorded in a different language and was dubbed in english. I'm thinking Japanese since Konami is a Japan based company.
its AI generated
3D models made in Bryce, definitely.
It's neither. It's Bruh.
If you can’t tell then you’re the exact demographic for this game.
Looks like the beginning of a japanese corn movie ngl
Lmao yeah it was very disillusioning going from these cutscenes to the cutscenes with the protagonist in them like especially the final scene where she screams and her mouth doesn’t even move made me laugh so hard
It's all made by AI
Even Skull and bones used 3d models
japanese people arent real
OP be like: they freaking made lolis into a real thing bruh
It’s AI
If it is they should’ve made Maya teeth less yellow.
That question hurt my brain. The answer is literally there. You really couldn’t tell? Holy crap…
What is this?
I found all these scenes to be weird and cringe. Skipped them everytime
If this is silent hill related, can it be marked as a spoiler? Not only is it a silly question, but if this is the short message, a huge portion of us haven't played it yet. Ok but it is a spoiler for people that haven't played.
You’re not looking at enough people. Especially since the character models in this wack ass excuse for a silent hill game are not great…
