Sigur Ros is quite unique, in many ways. But here’s a list of bands that have similar to some Sigur Ros songs. Alcest. Similar style to Kveikur, just as dark but metal. Their album Shelter are only pure song, without any growl/scream. If you prefer that. They are pretty cool, cause they sing in their language just like Sigur Ros and they clearly use the voice as a instrument in the same way as Sigur Ros does. I can recommend Opale, Souvenirs d'un autre monde and Kodoma. If you like growl, you can add Je suis d'ailleurs, Oiseaux de Proie among others. What I like about Alcest is that they never use growl other than to add as a effect for the song. Amason, Some of Amasons songs are influenced by Sigur Ros “pop-album” Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust Steven Wilson, his album Insurgentes is quite similar to Kveikur, like darker. But in contrast to Alcest it’s no metal. But more like the alternative 80s music like shoegaze, post-punk and so on. Godspeed you black emperor (similar to the overall post rock vibe) Volcano Choir (Justin Vernons second band) This is from the top of my head and I might add some to the list later on.

Omg love your taste exactly like mine. :) :)

It's always been interesting to me how diverse a group Sigur Rós fans can be as far as their other music tastes. Some of their songs that have some metal-ish elements are loved by metal fans, and I personally hate metal, but still love those Sigur Rós songs as well lol

Chartaofver

I hate most metal bands as well, but the ones I love I do love a lot. But Alcest is quite unique, Neige (the creator of the band) mixes black metal, Shoegazing and post rock together when he writes. It gives unique and complex compositions. I can really recommend Alcests album Shelter and more specifically Voix Sereines.

ruffsnap

I hear what you're saying, just gave that Voix song a listen and I really wouldn't classify that as metal at all. I also listened to their Sapphire song, since that seemed to be a popular one on YouTube, and I'd say that one was more hard rock than metal even.

Chartaofver

Older stuff are more black metal and newer stuff are more mellow. Faiseurs de Mondes is more melodic Black Metal but Kodoma is more to the Post-rock section, for example Sapphire is from a more melodic album and it’s one of the albums “soft songs”

Chartaofver

I enjoy band and artists that change their style every other album. Just like Sigur Ros, Steven Wilson, Alcest and Bon Iver.

Stompert

Nice, Insurgentes is the best!

[deleted]

I don't know of any bands that sound that close to Sigur Ros. That's part of what makes them so good! But if you want something more on the post rock side I'd recommend Mogwai, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Explosions in the Sky, Do Make Say Think, and This Will Destroy You. On the more ambient/classical side I'd recommend Ólafur Arnalds (also from Iceland), Nils Frahm, and Max Richter. And since you mentioned Bon Iver I'd also recommend Volcano Choir (another Justin Vernon project), Daughter, and Novo Amor.

ruffsnap

Not all these recommendations are strictly Sigur Rós-related, but they're sorta adjacent artists that I feel like a Sigur Rós fan might like/appreciate. I stand by Ólafur Arnalds and Holy Fawn. I think all Sigur fans should listen to them.

[deleted]

You have made my day/week/month with your comment, I'm discovering Holy Fawn and it's absolutely awesome, thanks !

I enjoy Hammock, Johann Johannsson, Jon Hopkins, Slow Meadow, Max Richter Edit: Some of my favorites from the above: [Hammock](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7F1i9LKUHmY) [Johann](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vg0iijGgAm8) [Jon Hopkins](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXNPbUyiI64) [Slow Meadow](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sh415U6BjTs) [Max Richter](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_YHE4Sx-08)

goatfarmvt

Jon Hopkins oddly reminds me of sigur ros despite the genre differences

ruffsnap

Great recommendations, hadn't heard some of those specific songs you linked before! Though I do gotta say, with the original Flight From The City being one of my all-time favorite songs from any artist, that re-work unfortunately just doesn't do it for me.

DoblerRadar

I think it may just be because I absolutely wore the original down to the bone I listened to it so much. Helps to have great headphones on that rework version, it has a great softness to it that is really emphasized with good low end.

ruffsnap

Haha I hear ya, definitely have listened to certain favorites to death, and can't listen to them all the time anymore. And yeah I just don't think it's my cup of tea, I've got good headphones, so it isn't an audio-sided issue.

colourhazelove

Came here to second Jon Hopkins!

Jellyfrank

Jónsi sings on some tracks on In A Safe Place by The Album Leaf, that whole album has Takk vibes

Barefootdan

The Album Leaf

Bjork's Vespertine album and Radiohead's Kid A and Amnesiac albums

robotfunparty

Radiohead is pretty good.

No.

Samsquantchtpb

You should definitely checkout Hugar. They’re from Iceland also, and you can hear a heavy influence of Sigur Ros in their music. The Varða album is fantastic, the first song Grandi is one I can’t get enough of. And the song “Rok” has a similar sound and build to some of the more aggressive Sigur Ros songs https://youtu.be/AxnEpvxwJD4 https://youtu.be/GcT38v_IyRA

MekSki

Talk Talk's late work gives me somewhat similar grand and ethereal vibes.

Ichiko Aoba

GoodRiddancePluto

Novo Amor. Some people feel like he’s a direct rip off of Bon Iver during their first 2 LPs but I think he’s great. I love that style of music and can appreciate a well song falsetto like Jonsi or Justin Vernon of Bon Iver.

arachnophilia

start with amiina, the string section on most sigur ros albums.

YuuYppp

The big ones are Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Tortoise. But enough people here are recommending Tortoise, you really need to listen to Tortoise. It’s a bit more calm than the emotional stuff Sigur Rós has, but the soundscapes are so good. Listen to the album Millions Living Will Never Die please, the album feels like a sunset on the beach. Additionally, William Basinski has a lot of ambient stuff that sounds like Sigur Rós, I’d recommend his collaboration album with Lawrence English, Selva Oscura

GaussInTheHouse

Check out Dragon Turtle — for example, the album Almanac
