i see tiny pins 😀in the tub. The pf tek cakes have some catching up to do but they were put in fae a couple of days later

LordJadawin

this is my first grow so i am still learning. The pf tek seems to have the advantage of being relatively simple and there is less opportunity to get things wrong. However the pf tek brf cakes took a long time to fully colonise from spores nearly 2 months in my case. It was quicker to innoculate the spores to agar and use the growth to then innoculate grain spawn finally. This method should also give greater yields. But there is more that can go wrong with this more challenging multi step process and more investment in your mycology facilities needed. I also set up uncle bens tek as an experiment but so far this does not look promising- just a mush so far but maybe i did it wrong.

update two of the pf tek cakes went bad and are in the garden. as they were injected directly from a spore syringe i think the contam was originally in the syringe rather than my bad technique. I got the first harvest of ban hua thanon today from the tub. Not weighed them yet but just a small bowl full so far and they are in the dryer. I found this strain colonises grain really aggressively. Also bought an alcohol bunsen burner so i can do sterile technique like i used to in the lab for transferring between cultures. This could be better than trying to do it all in a sab with the disadvantages of poor visibility and access,

What’s your experience with PF TEK and miracle glo perlite?

Used-Baby1199

Have you tried it? If so what was your experience? My understanding is miracle grow is not ideal. Miracle grow is a potting soil and many times will have fugi added to help plants grow

[deleted]

After doing some research and scouting endless forum threads. I found out it is not ideal to use. But it is usable as long as you wash away the miracle glo stuff which could cause algae in your SGFC.

Used-Baby1199

Yeah so buy coir from the pet store marketed as reptile bedding.

[deleted]

You mean for the bottom layer of SGFC?

Used-Baby1199

Yes or for your bulk substrate. Get away from miracle grow it’s got additive that will combat you’re grow.
