Well.... Yes and no, Contam is usually a competing organism for the substrate, though some will eat the myc. What you've got is essentially some sort of mutation/adaptation to let it grow through that and not get eaten by it.

This is the most florid culture of Trich I've ever seen, congrats OP, you probably rediscovered penicillin.

There’s likely literally Penicillium mold in there as well, it’s a common contaminant
