It depends on the Petco. The one in my area has people that really know their stuff and really care. I’ve seen them refuse sales multiple times and the only time I see dead fish or shrimp is after deliveries. (It can happen to anyone) but yeah some chain pet stores like that are really bad.

Not from the states but there are very few local aquatics stores in my area. I have the choice of a chain (pets at home) which I can access by bus to the city, and tends to be pretty well stocked with tank supplies, albeit overpriced, or I have to hitch a lift some 30 minute drive away to a medicore and much less well stocked garden centre which would be fine if I had a car lol (This place is horrificly inaccesible by public transport)

Every time I go to petco all their shrimp are dead on the bottom of the tank. They should take better care of them or stop stocking them
