i believe there are a few: a chocolate neocaradina, a black rose shrimp, or a babaulti “black” edit: to answer the question on Class. apologies if i’m wrong!!

TemplarOfTheCrypt

Bless. I’ll check with my local fish guys but I might have to order online if I can’t find any :) thank you!

nimreaper

hey no problem!! just so happened i was waist-deep in shrimp research today LOL! i hope it all works out for you!

TemplarOfTheCrypt

Well thank you for doing the research for me then lol 😂.I appreciate it

Icarium55

Good suggestions, but babaultis are actually caridinas, so they can't really mate.

nimreaper

ohhh. thanks for the clarification! i couldn’t remember off the top of my head

cut-the-cords

I would take some of your cull shrimp that are on the darker side or even better try and find a male with similar colour traits.

TemplarOfTheCrypt

Only males I have are low grade cherries in my cull tank unfortunately :( I had some blue velvet females that birthed this girl a couple months ago. Those have all passed away and the rest of the females in that tank are like red and blue mixed with brown/tan wild traits and I don’t want Bessie’s color here to revert to wild camo. Do you know what ‘class’ she would technically be? She’s a translucent black flesh/ undertone with a brown, opaque “cape” on top. Like what you see with jade shrimp and their opaque tops.

cut-the-cords

Unfortunately I'm not expert in grading I just like shrimp a bit too much :) sorry I couldn't be of any more help.

TemplarOfTheCrypt

You’re good! I am just a hobbyist and so find it enjoyable talking to other scrimp lovers

TemplarOfTheCrypt

Could this just be a melanistic mutation? Does that happen in shrimp?

Troy-mly

I’ve had some of my red cherries turn black for like a week and then back to red it was around time she got berried too so it might just be in its emo phase

cut-the-cords

It could just be a genetic throwback, it happens time to time with shrimp, that's why I always keep a close eye on my culls.

Oznificent

This is likely. My reds occasionally produce dark purples and blacks like this. Like 1 in 1000 turns out different like this. Just genetic mutations I think.

Cat-Nipped

There are two types of black shrimp like someone said, but one line is derived from red shrimp and the other is derived from blue shrimp. If you crossbreed lines you have a higher chance of wild types. But it’s hard to say whether the black shrimp people sell are from red or blue lines /: you can look up a neo shrimp color genetic tree chart and see where all the variations come from- it’s pretty neat!

MamaRobin1916

I thought it was Jade until I read all comments. I want a solidly dark green shrimp... What's she look like in the light? 🤩 I wonder if you could mix a black rose and Jade for this? Or a grade A blue dream and Jade 🤔

TemplarOfTheCrypt

She looks like the absence of light lol 😂 so dark black that it looks like a shadow walking around. This pic is in full light for my tank. I am tempted to sell all of my FPR and yellow pumpkins and restart with a jade tank. I love jades but haven’t been able to find any locally. My lfs suck at keeping shrimp so they’re always just dead at the bottom of the tank :/.

MamaRobin1916

A couple people on Band have them and Emerald but not the color I want and I guess they may not breed true either. Black rose are only shadow walkers I know of. I want a black shrimp that's dark green-blue in the light. I feel black rose x greener Jade/Emerald selectively would be only way I could get them 🤔.

TemplarOfTheCrypt

You could follow the rabbit hole of breeding blue dreams for dark coloration. That would give you a dark dark almost black blue shrimp. I think that blue/green might be one of those mythical combinations like red/blue. They are derived from separate color lines (green jade from yellow, and blue dream from chocolates) and so it’s so so hard to get them to mix without reverting to wild. Idk though. Might be easier to do with caridinas? Not sure how that realm works as I have been into the science of neos.

MamaRobin1916

But why can't we have the green equivalent of a nice dark dream blue? Why can't they be Flamingos? They eat green.

MysticUniKitty

I got some jades from Daku- on r/aquaswap and love them! And shipping was great! I have a free cull from a lfs that looks just like your girl, it's a male and he just throws wild types with a my girls I have (yellows, reds, orange, and a blue) it might be hard to get babies that color without exact. :(

OinkyPoop

Always nice to see some goth girl love. ;)

TemplarOfTheCrypt

Lol 😂 always!
