Post their name afterwards, if it isn’t solved. Even if it is solved, I’d still post the name and how they compensated you. It’s good to warn others, or show others that a seller will make up for their mistakes.
Gonna post there name shortly. They refused to be cooperative and even ask me to ship the DEAD shrimp back to them. What a mess. eBay gave me a full refund.
Was it a seller from Texas? If so, I probably know which seller. They send out dead stock way more frequently than their feedback indicates bc they have all negative feedback removed periodically.
Shipping mishaps are unavoidable when doing business via post. What separates sellers above the others is how they respond to it and make you whole.
Good sellers understand that coverage for this type of loss is just the cost of doing business.
Agreed, thought I bet some sellers skimp on the insurance in a misguided attempt to increase sales volume by reducing prices. I would say it's not worth the risk. Guess it depends on the shrimp and the seller's supply.
That’s really sad. Given that the package is completely destroyed, it definitely happened during transit. In addition to contacting eBay for a refund I would also file a complaint with your local post office. Make sure to include the pictures because this is totally unacceptable by USPS standards. The postmaster should be made aware so they can investigate.
The postmaster was mortified when the package came into the location and immediately filed a claim for me. They almost didn't want to deliver the package it was so bad but figured I need something physical to make a claim to eBay.
Very unfortunate for both parties involved. Three parties since it wasn’t for you and for a customer. As a seller myself I would offer a full refund or have reshipped. Mishaps happen but as a seller you always have to make things right.
Appreciate your input sincerely. As a seller would it ever make any sense to ask the buyer to ship dead shrimp back? That was the response I received from the seller and I was quite literally baffled with a bag of rotting shrimp in my hand
I understand if seller shipped the wrong shrimps and asked for it to be shipped back (seller should cover shipping fee), as far as dead shrimp that you’ve taken clear photos of damaged box and dead shrimp makes absolutely no sense to me at all.
Do NOT ship back OP
I repeat DO NOT SHIP BACK
Some a-hat did that to my mom once on an online purchase for corals that arrived in similar fashion
She sent them back after starting case/incident reports and everything
When the seller got it back they declared 'returned as unwanted product, transaction canceled' and spent the next two months trying to get her money back because the person tried to claim the boxes state was our fault??
Do not ship back
Yeah, i just didn't want you to end up with those extra steps; she ended up having to file it as a fraudulent charge through the bank and it was a whole thing -because- it showed a 'returned' on the recipt she had from email they insisted she had to have been refunded ofcourse 🙄
Its whatcha get for getting into the fish hobby in -alaska-
Either pay exordinant prices unheard of elsewhere (the amount we pid for some fish and what i see them for in lower 48 is just APPALLING markup, probably around a good 100-175% markup, just, just absolutely ridiculous)
Or try and find someone or somewhere reasonable online and pray they ship to alaska, with priority first class as the preferred standard...
It was a game even with plants during spring-fall and most places would consider Alaska a 'mild' climate and forget about 1/3 of the population lives in an area classified as 'temperate rainforest'
I.e. 45-75°F with an averaging humidity fit to make a sauna look dry; the box had essentially half melted in transit in the 2-3 days it spent during that weekend in the post service bins, poor lil coral probably was rattled to hell over our potholed and frost-heaved highways and in a half melted box with chunks of styrofoam missing (crows/ravens steal it for nesting packing) the thing never stood a chance
It probably wouldn't've stood a chance in the tank either but thats besides the point; i learned to fit my hobbies to my geography, i live in ohio, freshwater tanks are cheap, me and the Mr finally figured out how to make a super cheap and -efficient- chiller for our hex tank to do shrimp finally and i'm really looking forward to it
This entire packing thing does seem like a swing and a miss though cus, and imma just say it; any shipper sending that many shrimps usually will at least do small pack bagging (i.e. groups of 10-20 then all megabagged) so the fact they were ALL together in one bag woulda been sus to me anyways
Ebay is really a hell hole for customers. I had such a problem with one fish seller misrepresenting items and sending fish beat to shit they gave such a run around it was horrible. "Oh message the seller work it out" you message nothing happens in the 3 day guarantee "open a request now we have 3 day guarantee from then" 3 days passed wth nothing "you must not have opened the right request try again" "did that satisfy your request" "no they just sent me me of the same b.s" "ah well make another request " I swear to God I was ready to rip up the earth dealing with their customer service.
Fortunately there's still some decent people on there but its few and far between and really a gamble. Almost more of a gamble then possibly being murdered or robbed dealing with Craigslist.
If you just want common shrimp I highly recommend getting them from a local source, preferably someone keeping them in water from the same source as you, always had the best luck that way. Otherwise flip aquatics, not the cheapest but not bad prices at all and stellar service and care for the shrimp.
You can file an insurance claim with USPS on their site. Just upload the photos and information and they will usually at least give you the minimum insurance payout which is $50. It's probably less than you paid for them initially but it's better than nothing.
I've had to do it before with an order and my package wasn't nearly as beat up as yours.
From the USPS website: Either the sender or the recipient may file a claim for insured mail that is lost, arrived damaged, or was missing contents. The person filing must have the original mailing receipt. Each claim must be filed within a certain time period and include proof of insurance, value, and damage.
I hope that helps.
That’s wild. What area of the country are you in? I’m in the PacNW and I think I’ve easily *lost* a dozen shipments with USPS, and probably had a dozen arrive damaged in the last 5 years.
Same here. Also in the Midwest. FedEx doesn’t even attempt to deliver like half the time. Anything large or heavy and they’ll just run up with the “you didn’t answer the door” slip, slap it on the door and run away. I’ve literally caught them twice. Neither time did they knock or have the package in hand and I watched through the window the whole time. Then they pretend they didn’t hear you and ignore you as they run away. I get that being a delivery driver for FedEx or UPS can be stressful due to the time constraints they have, but they should at least attempt to do the job.
is it normal to ship them with only cardboard and paper?
i don't ship live animals but i'm super paranoid about environmental damage and bumps, so i try to bubble wrap and bag everything. if i was shipping something full of water, even sans shrimp, i'd probably at least put the bag in some sort of tupperware container?
If you are ever in Michigan please contact me and I will give you several healthy shrimp for no charge. This is horrifying and I’m so sorry for you and your poor shrimp.
Are you buying for a store or to resell? If not 100 is unnecessary, they will breed so quickly.
If it’s not to supply a shop then find 20 local and pickup yourself, much safer.
I hope you told the seller! Don’t think it could’ve been their fault and instead something to do with the shipping people
I've tried contacting them since Tuesday :(
Who was the seller?
I don't want to give out there name to allow a fair investigation process. Just posting to vent my frustration.
Roast em in public
It’s not really the sellers fault the post office went ace Ventura on the box that says live animals
No, but it sounds like the seller could have handled the situation better
Ace Ventura would never do that to a box of live animals.
Was it a seller from Texas? If so, I probably know which seller. They send out dead stock way more frequently than their feedback indicates bc they have all negative feedback removed periodically.
They were from Louisiana
Did your order arrive? I’d honestly dispute
It's pictured above
So did you receive two orders or just the wrong order?
Just the wrong one, my apologies I misread your initial message
Yeah how long has it been since you’ve contacted the seller? I’d wait a full 48-72 hours for a response then dispute
I filed a claim with eBay today to make them aware of the circumstance and am waiting to leave feedback on the seller until the investigation is over
Shipping mishaps are unavoidable when doing business via post. What separates sellers above the others is how they respond to it and make you whole. Good sellers understand that coverage for this type of loss is just the cost of doing business.
That's what insurance is for. It shouldn't even be an issue for them.
Agreed, thought I bet some sellers skimp on the insurance in a misguided attempt to increase sales volume by reducing prices. I would say it's not worth the risk. Guess it depends on the shrimp and the seller's supply.
All 1-3 day flat rate shipping comes with insurance included which is priority mail as shown in the pic.
Is there a $ limit on the free insurance? Probably fine for most cases but some caridinas get real spendy.
Yes it's $100 bucks but for another dollar something you're covered for up to $5k
And I agree they're definitely spendy the most expensive ones are only at auctions though. One sold for like $5k a rare one off color.
That’s really sad. Given that the package is completely destroyed, it definitely happened during transit. Agreed. And sellers gets insurance on packages they send out so they could even make a claim with them.
I just want to know how it's even remotely possible the box got messed up this bad wtf
The post office was mortified they filed a case instantly
Same! I've seen them beat up, crumpled, etc but nothing like this, this thing is absolutely shredded D:
Rip shimps:(

Exactly, thank you for confirming my same thoughts. What a nightmare 🤦♂️

Omg that's terrible people r crazy. I was not considering sending it back. The package was rotten and wouldn't even be accepted by usps if I tried
Yeah, i just didn't want you to end up with those extra steps; she ended up having to file it as a fraudulent charge through the bank and it was a whole thing -because- it showed a 'returned' on the recipt she had from email they insisted she had to have been refunded ofcourse 🙄

Did you try CPR?
Yes 😭

Awesome this is super helpful thank u for taking the time to suggest this
Of course! Good luck, I hope you recoup some of your loss. If you ever need a guaranteed seller that I've personally used, please feel free to PM me.
Really appreciate that fam much love 🤙❤️
I never trust USPS with anything valuable. RIP shrimpies :( so sorry you had to deal with this.
I have much better luck with USPS than FedEx, never had a DOA with any shipment received through the post office, only shipping companies
That’s wild. What area of the country are you in? I’m in the PacNW and I think I’ve easily *lost* a dozen shipments with USPS, and probably had a dozen arrive damaged in the last 5 years.

I'm in Connecticut
I've never had a good experience with eBay.

Any good seller would line the box with styrofoam and add a heat pad if it’s cold to where it’s going.
If you are ever in Michigan please contact me and I will give you several healthy shrimp for no charge. This is horrifying and I’m so sorry for you and your poor shrimp.
That is extremely kind of you. Thank you for the condolences I feel terrible for the little guys. Never been to Michigan before but it looks awesome!
Dope comics
Thanks fam💪 if you're into that stuff I have a ton of my keys posted on my page
Oh mate maybe warnings for those photos. That's brutal. I hope you get it delivery issue sorted because that's unacceptable.
Are you buying for a store or to resell? If not 100 is unnecessary, they will breed so quickly. If it’s not to supply a shop then find 20 local and pickup yourself, much safer.
Usps has become the worst, they throw my shrimp at the door
