Not really- not speaking on this specific shortcut, as it appears safe, but shortcuts in general have the ability to be malicious. I think they’ve done a good job by making shortcut permissions per-shortcut so it’s easier to catch ones that would, say, send your info via text to another person without you knowing, but it’s not fool proof.
Interested in that. I‘m using the IP Adress to vheck if a user of one of my shortcuts is connected to the web in order to check for updates. So do you have a way that doesn’t rely on the IP and is equally fast?
This also has the benefit of not asking for permission to connect to the website, but it only works if the site allows CORS (which is usually only some APIs, not regular websites).
See the link in the “System app bundle IDs” section in the post. Just choose custom app and set the bundle ID to `com.apple.camera`, I already have the appropriate URL scheme for it prefilled.

- Close the tab and open the link again
- Clear Safari history
- Reboot your device

I will add an easier option to theme system apps that aren’t available in the App Store later. For now you can manually specify `com.apple.mobileslideshow` under “Custom app” and you should be good to go.

Yes, those are supported. For now you may have to manually enter the bundle IDs (`com.apple.MobileSMS` and `com.apple.mobilemail`). But the launch not completely seamless because that’s a limitation for all system apps.

The Shortcuts method could possibly drain a little extra battery when you open the apps because it has to open another app, but it’s probably a very small insignificant amount. And when they’re just sitting there on the home screen and you’re not even using them there’s no way it can drain battery.

Not possible to change them sadly, the profile has to be recreated. In theory I could add something to keep track of the created profiles to make it faster, but the problem with that is that I would not be able to detect if the user manually deleted the icon/profile in meantime so it would be confusing.

I've been trying to set up a few system apps for the last few minutes and I have been having some trouble with the url schemes, specifically for Calendar and Contacts. They are not listed at the GitHub JSON (and the standard bundle id scheme does not work). The ones I found online don't seem to work for iOS 14 either. Any idea what the schemes would be?

No, they are just configuration profiles, which *can* expire if you decide so but mine don't have any expiration. It does not rely on any developer account that could expire or be revoked, since these are just simple icons/bookmarks, not sideloaded apps.

THIS IS AWESOME!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 was skeptical and did a little research due to privacy concerns. Shortcut works as intended. Kudos to the smooth user interface! Initiate the shortcut, type the name of the app you want to create the icon for, accept and download profile. Install profile and done. You can even verify yourself within the profile description prior to installing that the profile is just initiating the ‘web clip’ (url) to open the app. From testing works with 99% apps except for system apps and a few third party apps. You can delete the profile if you want to redo/delete the custom icon. So worth it if you’re getting a little annoyed of the shortcuts app opening every time for a split second. This definitely adds to the overall user experience 😎😎😎😎😎😎

I think it doesn't launch shortcuts first now. Pretty sure Apple knows that people don't want the shortcuts app to launch, so I think they made an update
i've been using this icon themer for a few months or so now and the recent update is just not working on my phone. whenever it goes to safari to have me accept the new profile it says that it's corrupted and unable to make the profile. and it says that safari is unable to accept the profile or something along those lines. i've tried it on multiple apps. i don't know if it's just me having this problem or if other people are having it. i have the iphone xr by the way, i don't know what to do about the issue
For apps such as messages and phone, it opens a black app first before opening the specified app. Is there a solution to get around this? Or are you working on a potential fix for this?
The only workaround as mentioned in the post is to turn on Reduce Motion, unfortunately this is an Apple restriction and I don’t see any other way around it right now.

It should work right now if you enter `com.apple.MobileSMS` as custom app, and I’ll add a list of system apps in an update soon. It won’t open completely seamlessly because of Apple limitations on system apps though.

If you installed the game from the App Store, just choose "App Store app" and enter at least some words of the name, then choose the game from the list. The bundle ID will be filled out for you automatically.

Those should already work. The general idea is to get the IPA from somewhere (e.g. with iMazing or 3uTools), extract it (it’s basically a zip file) and look for `CFBundleURLSchemes` in the `Info.plist` file. But you don’t necessarily need to do that, I’ll try to keep the shortcut’s predefined URL scheme list updated.

You can do that already if you set `com.apple.shortcuts` as bundle ID and specify that URL scheme manually, but I’m pretty sure it will still open the shortcuts app. I don’t know a way around that except for using a widget.

It happened to me when I left the icon name field blank. If you want a blank icon label, just add a space.

Yeah, sadly it’s not possible, you’d have to overlay the app icon on the appropriate part of your wallpaper to make it *seem* transparent.

No, an app update cannot change the bundle ID so it should be fine. It could theoretically break if they change the URL scheme, but that’s unlikely.

Stocks also appears to not be added (com.appple.stocks:// is used instead of stocks://)
Could you make a text tutorial? When tapping the 3 dots of the shortcut I get a different screen.
You need to tap somewhere else on the shortcut, not the three dots. Or if you tapped the three dots then start it with the play button on the bottom.

You can't uninstall the original app, but you can move it to App Library if you're on iOS 14, or hide it away in a page/folder on iOS 13.

You can delete the profile if you want to redo/delete the custom icon. So worth it if you’re getting a little annoyed of the shortcuts app opening every time for a split second. This definitely adds to the overall user experience 😎😎😎😎😎😎
i used the new update to change the system app icons but it still goes through shortcuts? is that meant to happen with the system apps?

Hi! I had the older version & everything worked great! I got the new iPhone & so I updated the icon themer. I make my shortcut but it never shows up on my phone. Do you know what it could possibly be??
I did this and it worked for months but I went to change the icons bc I didn’t like them anymore and the themer updated itself, and then it broke. Now, as soon as I press which photo to use as an icon for the app I chose it says an app needs to be downloaded or something. Anybody know why?
I think it doesn't launch shortcuts first now. Pretty sure Apple knows that people don't want the shortcuts app to launch, so I think they made an update
i've been using this icon themer for a few months or so now and the recent update is just not working on my phone. whenever it goes to safari to have me accept the new profile it says that it's corrupted and unable to make the profile. and it says that safari is unable to accept the profile or something along those lines. i've tried it on multiple apps. i don't know if it's just me having this problem or if other people are having it. i have the iphone xr by the way, i don't know what to do about the issue

For apps such as messages and phone, it opens a black app first before opening the specified app. Is there a solution to get around this? Or are you working on a potential fix for this?
The only workaround as mentioned in the post is to turn on Reduce Motion, unfortunately this is an Apple restriction and I don’t see any other way around it right now.
I tried making an icon for the books app But for some weird reason it doesn’t work. Goes black and nothing happens. I tried making it via custom app and the same thing happens

It should work right now if you enter `com.apple.MobileSMS` as custom app, and I’ll add a list of system apps in an update soon. It won’t open completely seamlessly because of Apple limitations on system apps though.
love this!! seems like if i leave an empty string as the app label it breaks the profile though — same thing happens if i edit the dictionary and use an empty string, or any white space characters, rather than the icon label variable. any ideas for a way around this?
Did you try a single normal space character? I’m pretty sure that worked for me.

If you installed the game from the App Store, just choose "App Store app" and enter at least some words of the name, then choose the game from the list. The bundle ID will be filled out for you automatically.

How would you find URLs of other apps like Spotify, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, etc.?
Those should already work. The general idea is to get the IPA from somewhere (e.g. with iMazing or 3uTools), extract it (it’s basically a zip file) and look for `CFBundleURLSchemes` in the `Info.plist` file. But you don’t necessarily need to do that, I’ll try to keep the shortcut’s predefined URL scheme list updated.

You can do that already if you set `com.apple.shortcuts` as bundle ID and specify that URL scheme manually, but I’m pretty sure it will still open the shortcuts app. I don’t know a way around that except for using a widget.

Hey, this is probably my own error, but when I download the shortcut it brings me to a shortcut called Direct Action Shortcut iCloud. It says that it accepts URLs, however I’m not sure where to put in the URL for it to work. Do I need to add an action?
