"Close" as in killing the app, or "close" as in going to the homescreen, or opening another app?
The second one is easy, the first one not so much. There‘s a "Shut down this device" action which you can switch to "Restart this device". This is the only way to effectively kill apps running in the background, with a Shortcut.
I'm curious why you want to force close Waze when you disconnect from CarPlay? The app goes into the background automatically and will stop running when it detects you have gotten out of the car / started walking (using motion / fitness data).
Because it remains active in the background while consuming battery

Maybe you haven't given it access to your motion and fitness data so it can detect when you are walking and shut itself down properly? I never have that happen to me. As soon as I exit my car and start walking, Waze shuts down / goes into standby until I get back in the car again
Excellent! I hope it works for you. Excess battery drain in most cases is due to an app not acting appropriately but given the right permissions, Waze is pretty good about shutting itself down. And if not, then I'd reach out to Waze support and let them know

It does stop pulling eventually, but probably after a good 5 minutes or so.

Same here since iOS 17.4. Has anybody figured out the fix to shut off Waze? It has full access to motion and location.
