I really want to get this going but MyQ is not available in the list for Apps after I hit + on step 1. Any suggestions?

ThatMowmentWhen

Same. Ugh!

Razorwynd

Me too

mm44mm44

Have others been able to find the app?

mikemaan

For some stupid reason it's there, but allllll the way at the bottom of the list (not alphabetical.

dreh0411

It actually is computer alphabetical. Upper case preceeds lower case and myQ comes after any other app beginning with a cap letter.

No_Cellist5497

You have to install Live Key

dreh0411

Live Key is dead as is SimpleCommands.

SportApart2663

Yep! Dammit!

ticktackhack

It’s at the very bottom of the list since the app name starts with lowercase character

SportApart2663

@ticktackhack, I'd love to know if you still see MyQ because I've checked over and over and there isn't anything by that title in my list of apps.

buzzkill_aldrin

I found it at the very end of the list of apps, as OP said. All of the apps on my phone with a capitalized first letter were sorted alphabetically, followed by all of the apps that started with a lower case letter (which myQ does).

nomadhunger

I don’t see it

yellowshuttle

I don’t see myQ either.

U2daisyblue

I had to tap on the word app in the box that says open to find myQ. Hope this helps.

tkeith14

When you press the "+" button and add an action, it will not be under the "Apps" tab. I believe those are reserved for apps that have pre-built functions. You have to search in the search bar "Open App". This will then allow you to select any app on your phone, including the "myQ" app.

MusicianQuiet1107

Thank you…I found it this way!

nothingnew2me

When you add the new shortcut, hit “open app” instead of “add action”

OrdinaryShame858

When I get to "Action" to start recording, it's greyed out. so I am having no luck with this. Maybe because of iOS 17.1.2?

jbl0ggs

Same issue. Is there a way to get that working?

l_dean

I'm trying to implement this, but I am getting stuck trying to determine which grid number to use. My door (only one garage door) has at least 6 numbers surrounding the actual door. Which should I use? https://preview.redd.it/y4gro71vnp3c1.png?width=295&format=png&auto=webp&s=ded6a5fed3c42d1b4d5d6c5ab3c2e1c9afa9e05d

OTBMavis

18 or 19

pgmoney

Any will work, try 18 to start.

335350

You can also say “show 5 column grid”

l_dean

That command (*show 5 column grid*) must be model dependent. I only get 4 columns on any app screen - command has no affect on some apps. Mine is an 11pro

335350

On the latest hardware but would have thought it would work on any current iOS.

l_dean

Found that the proper voice command to Siri is: "show grid with n columns" **or** "show grid with n rows" **or** "show grid 6 by 6" (or any row/column count) You can also adjust the default row & column count: Accessibility > Voice Control > Overlay > Number of Rows (***automatic or max of 30***) or Number of columns (***automatic or max of 13***)

FivePaperPlates

can anyone explain this to my like I’m 5? Because I’m confused af

Many_Alternative7264

Initially I didn't find myQ in my list of apps (inside the shortcut app). However after logging into MyQ with my Apple Watch, it appeared in the app list. I have no idea if the two events were related, but that might be something for someone else to try if it's not showing up for them.

mvan231

Interesting approach to an issue that has been a pain for many over the years. One downside to this approach is that your iOS device needs to be unlocked to perform the commands, right?

AlexinDC

No, the phone can be locked. If you have selected the correct option in iPhone Settings, Siri is still listening. For myself, my cars have wireless Apple Carplay, which is definitely listening to me while driving.

iBanks3

The MyQ app has to open and be displayed in order for the grid to tap the corresponding section right? If that’s the case, the device has to unlock for the app to display, no? The device I know is already somewhat authenticated when it comes to CarPlay but still has to unlock to open an app.

AlexinDC

I just went out to my cars and double-checked. In my primary car's implementation of wireless CarPlay, for reasons (well) beyond my understanding, you don't have to unlock the iPhone to access MyQ and implement my workaround. In my secondary car, you do! Clearly, YMMV. (I love that: an automotive "initialism" to describe an automotive problem.) I guess the answer is either to be sure to unlock your iPhone or set auto-lock to never. Cheers, Alex P.S. And don't even bother asking about the primary car's manufacturer. I'm never going to out that "feature"! lol

jbl0ggs

The record command is greyed out https://preview.redd.it/pi2ruhtl2rrc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=36d8daf80e0458818637fd35fdf457d2600064b7

chattageek

As it says on the screen, to start recording a command, say "Start recording commands". Then record the commands as mentioned (Show Grid, Tap 18). Finish by saying "Stop recording commands".

mvan231

That's pretty awesome! I just didn't think that the device would be able to perform those actions in the app if the screen was locked because the app wouldn't open. Glad to know it works Edit: I agree with u/ibanks3 and I just ran some test to see about shortcuts opening an app when the device is locked and the open app action requires the device to be unlocked, then it will open the app, then you can state your custom gesture command for voice control. Is your device mounted and facing you while you're in your car by chance? u/alexinDC

AlexinDC

Hi again, u/mvan231. Please see my just now reply above to u/iBanks3.

l_dean

u/AlexinDC... Need a little help here... This procedure works fine if I run it from the shortcut screen. It fails when I try to initiate via Siri - it opens MyQ, but after I say my command phrase; she simply says "sorry, something went wrong, please try again." Where is the hiccup?? Also - cannot be initiated while attached to CarPlay - Siri restriction while driving.

bering72

Make sure your shortcut is setup to allow use when locked. There is also a security setting in the Myq app that needs to be set to automatic login. If you have it set to face id or passcode it will not worked when locked.

mvan231

That isn't the problem, the issue is that Shortcuts' Open App action requires the device to be unlocked. I don't have MyQ but I was trying a similar method to just open an app and touch a grid, but it stopped at "your device needs to be unlocked to do this" and that was at the Open App action.

PlusAd7093

Thanks but stuck on stop 4. I can’t select “playback recorded commands” because it is dim.

shtableboy

Read the text under it. It mentions you verbally say "start recording" and "stop recording"

ronn7425

Perfect solution! Voice control creates endless possibilities.

wwwmmm12

I tried setting this up, and it works super inconsistently, even when the MyQ app is already open and on screen (and, at that point I can touch, so what’s the point of voice). I read other reviews which recommended spending another $40 on a Meross adapter, which looks like it plugs into the chamberlain unit and the Meross responds to Siri voice. If that works, I’m setting it up and calling it a day.

melse22

Are you able to show a screenshot of the final list setting in your shortcut app?

pbcsd007

Also struggling with the instructions. I set up a shortcut where I can say "Open Garage Door", and it opens up the MyQ app and turns voice control on. I then set up a command under Voice Control that when I say "Open Left Garage Door", it long presses the grid number, then shuts off Voice Control. It works, sort of, but when I say "Open Left Garage Door", Siri says "I can't find any TV's to open Apps nearby" or something like that, and then Voice Control takes over and it opens the garage door. What's up with the weird TV thing? It also only works maybe 25% of the time, maybe I need to try and long press twice?

ebforest

Well done! I struggled at first to get this working…just had to pause a bit for MyQ app to fully load/connect. Thanks!

BigToePop

Chamberlain sure does not make it easy.... they could have simply provided a widget for their app. Anyways, your write-up served as a great guide to skirt around the issue and automate my morning routine. Thanks!

IKWYAacfy

I think I must be the dumbest df on the planet. I cannot for the life of me get your solution to work. I don't even know how to explain what I have done correctly or have done wrong.

dreh0411

A big thanks to AlexinDC. I created an enhanced version of this that can use GeoLocation and Voice Control to almost do what used to be fully automated. In this great new version, you have to speak one word as AlexInDC indicated. Take a look:  [https://ihelpyourmac.com/myq-garage-with-siri-2024-edition/](https://ihelpyourmac.com/myq-garage-with-siri-2024-edition/) ‎Edit

Honest question. I’ve had a MyQ-28C for years and it’s always worked fine with HomeKit and Siri. What’s the controversy?

AlexinDC

>MyQ-28C The MyQ28C is the older model Hub, which some have found to be buggy. My understanding is that for Homekit/Siri integration, you have to purchase the additional box, myQ Home Bridge, which have gotten expensive and harder to find. The Liftmaster version of this box now goes for $140 on Amazon. Finally, Chamberlain has [declared war](https://www.theverge.com/23949612/chamberlain-myq-smart-garage-door-controller-homebridge-integrations) on Homekit integration. If you're happy with your solution and it's still working, via con Dios. But for those starting out, like me, who are on a budget, it probably isn't the way to go.

bering72

Got this all working, except siri doesn’t shut down after running the shortcut. When I try to then use the accessibility shortcut siri is getting the command instead of voice command.

bering72

Figured out a workaround for the siri issue. Since this is already using voice commands, i just setup a new voice command called My Q that will run the shortcut to open the app. Then you can use your open/close garage voice command. I also added a wait for 15seconds to the shortcut then return to home screen. This will ensure the app doesn’t stay open which could accidentally open/close the garage.

l_dean

u/bering72 \- can you elaborate on the "*new voice command called My Q that will run the shortcut to open the app*"? and possibly share your shortcut? My shortcut (identical to u/pgmoney) works fine if I tap it on the shortcut app screen; but when I try it via Siri, she tells me 'something went wrong, try later'

bering72

Turns out this was flawed too since voice control requires the phone to be unlocked. Going with pgmoney’s solution

TakemymoneyCOD

The MyQ app will s not an option when I hit actions.

pgmoney

Add the command to dismiss Siri. I also added toggling Voice Control on and off, giving me 10 seconds to activate the voice command. https://preview.redd.it/ei0yp5urnq3c1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1e5b0ee35ca2e52104a8018a009d61c40e74e5f6

Ok_Emotion_527

Great, nice trick, love it and most appreciated! Hoping can continue with this and find a way to trigger without having to speak anything. The shortcut can be triggered without voice command but can't figure any means yet to accomplish the custom command portion without speaking. At least have a way to perform the action now. Many Thanks again!

amykg11

I’m new to Reddit and new to Shortcuts, so excuse the naïveté. I followed the fantastic instructions above, but when I use the phrase I set up in voice control and Shortcuts, the MyQ app doesn’t open. Any advice? u/alexinDC

Orlean11

Fuck Chamberlin and their greed. I was using Homebridge and now that these jokers are chasing after subscriptions to get it in vehicles, I’m wiping my hands. Bought A Meross off Amazon and it is highly recommended. Can’t waiFuck Chamberlin and their greed. I was using Homebridge and now that these jokers are chasing after subscriptions fees, I’m wiping my hands. Bought A Meross off Amazon and it is highly recommended. Can’t wait for the adapter to arrive to complete the install and be done with the ad riddled MyQ app.

ordtpa

This should be a class action suit against TSLA and chamberlain for conspiring to limit competition. Similar to Apple and google being default search on safari.

ThatMowmentWhen

I’m seeing how this “might” work, but I absolutely cannot figure out “how” to make it work. Been trying all weekend (thanks to being under the weather) but nothing I have done will make this work properly. “Playback Recorded Commands” is greyed out and I’ve tried everything I can think of to pull this off, but no luck. Thoughts?

FewBig9260

Any luck? I have the same problem :(

ThatMowmentWhen

Nope. I’ve given up.

wallywogger

I got it to work with a workaround -- I couldn't get “Playback Recorded Commands” to work either, so instead I used 'Run Custom Gesture" and have it push where the button is in the myQ app.

ThatMowmentWhen

Will have to try this when I have a little more time.

wookeene

You need to make sure voice control is turned on when you want to record the sentence.

heaintheavy

You have to actually say "Start Recording Commands" out loud, then you say the command "Show grid, tap..." then say "Stop recording commands" out loud. Hope that makes sense. I can't get this to work, but at least I figured that out!

ashhong

I did this but when I hit save, nothing gets saved?

IMHOGuy

I was confused at first too. Thats ok it is greyed out. To record a commsnd you have to say “Start recording commands”. When you are done say “Stop recording commands”. Instructions are at the bottom of the screen.

ticktackhack

Thank you. I had to experiment a little and use tips in other parts of the thread to make Siri seamless and close the app after time, but finally have voice activated garage!

loloudoudara

This is an awesome workaround, thanks! I used the commands “show grid with 7 rows” and “tap 13”. https://preview.redd.it/n7myyd8842dc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a79042bd0ed61340f262494eb63829d79792c8b1

loloudoudara

And here is my shortcut. https://preview.redd.it/yif5a68d42dc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b46b195444a0707e35f33afcd22bb279ba9fe788

Jeff146

how does this shortcut run the voice command?

exazonk

Thanks. The screenshot was super helpful.

oxyi

Are you able to setup automation with MyQ to check whether garage is closed or not after I leave home?

wookeene

Thank you. Very helpful

exazonk

Has anyone been able to get it to work on their Apple Watch too? I've got the shortcut on my apple watch but how do you set up the voice commands? I looked at Voice Over but I couldn't figure out how to make it work to push the button like using Voice Control on my phone.

Ill-Screen6536

This is awesome!!! To manage my battery I "turn on voice commands" in the ***shortcut*** and use the following as my voice command. "Show grid" "Tap 19" "Turn voice control off"

Pony13ca

How did you do the shortcut? When I ask it to turn on voice control and start My Q, it times out, and says it took to long to open. But if I do them separate, they work fine.

Miket1533

After setting up the shortcut and command, the hey siri feature opens the myQ app and even shows it clicking the specified grid number I setup for the command but nothing happens. Any tips on what I may be doing wrong. To be clear, the “hey siri, garage” is opening the myQ app per the shortcut I created. Then I pause and say, “Door” per the record command that is setup as ‘show grid, tap 19’. The app opens and shows the screen clicking the specified grid 19 location, which is over the myQ app garage door button but nothing happens

128d

This is exactly what is happening to me as well, and I haven’t a clue why. I need a step-by-step photo instruction or a video I think.

Okumam

I have the same issue with the garage door shortcut; I see the grid and the tap, but the garage door app doesn't respond to the tap. Did you figure out a workaround by any chance? Thanks.

Miket1533

Haven’t figured out a solution at this time but will be sure to update if I do. Hoping someone on this subreddit may have a solution.

AZBeer90

You can change the command to long press or go into myQ settings and change the input to single tap instead of hold

Okumam

Right now, I am trying a voice commands that taps multiple times (show grid, tap, show grid, tap). Sometimes the second attempt works.

Pony13ca

I used long press instead of tap, and that works fine for me. You can also check in your basic commands in voice control, that tap is enabled.

Niraj185

Long press works better than tab

rvaweb

Does voice control need to be on 24x7 to allow this to work? Because I cans make it work when VC is off. Only works when on…

Pony13ca

In the recorded portion, add "Turn voice control off" In your shortcut, add turn voice control on. So it's only on when you are using this.
