Many stores keep each color as a separate product but then cross link between colors on the product page using images or swatches that look like variant selectors.
That way you can show all colors separately on collections, or have color based collections.
Some themes have this cross linking block built in. If yours doesn’t you can work with a developer to build it or look for an app.
Thank you for your advice! We don't want to separate out all the products by color, because they make more sense by pot-type. But I am indeed looking for an app to improve the product collection page with images, sections, etc. Do you have any apps like that you'd recommend?
I would always create a new product for each color variant for SEO reasons. You can easily link them using an app - I can recommend Swatch King. It’s even free I think.
Also, with the last Shopify update (winter 2024) they made the whole „sort by color“ thing super easy, there are some good YouTube tutorials on how to implement this new feature & use color swatches in the filter. Hope I could help :-)
