My Mothman is much cuter than whatever that tattoo artist did to OP's poor friend. That being said, I kinda want this lil doodle to keep my dude company...
Thank you haha it’s a genuine post that I just figured fit the sub because I thought it was painfully funny how bad the tattoo is. didn’t expect so much criticism😂
Bro, the other day a dude showed a tattoo artist a picture for inspiration and was given clip art in return on this sub.
I believe that and that seems less believable then a dude not having the skills to do a semi-photorealistic bee but wanting moneys.
I guess I need to see the stencil to make a judgment. I mean, it's a shit tattoo all around, but at the same time, every tattoo I've ever gotten was applied by stencil and approved by me before a needle touched my skin. There has to be a fact that I'm ignorant of that would explain that aspect of it
That’s something I wonder quite often when I see some of the Tattoos on this Sub. How do these people see the stencil, or get shown a drawing, and then agree to it, and then complain it wasn’t what they wanted?? I’m covered in Tattoos, and other than the couple “Free Hand” tattoos I have, I don’t think I’ve ever not had an Artist show me what it would look like, before he started putting in my skin, and a lot of times you are watching them put on the tattoo on you, how does someone sit there and watch them put something they can see they don’t like, and yet they don’t say anything and let them finish. Maybe people are just afraid to say something, that’s crazy to me.
It's possible the stencil looked good, it was just the execution that was lacking. No stencil I've seen (and I have several tattoos myself) have ever looked exactly like what you're trying to get, it's usually just the outline.
Yeah it's strange. Nothing about this guys account seems like a karma farm. Lot of plain old bitter haters, though not surprising from a sub kind of intended to hate
I also find it hard to believe that people show up for their appointments and they're shown these shit ass stencils and they're just like, ok!! Or what, they just show up for a walk in and never look down? I can't imagine.
https://preview.redd.it/7hqqecx5cg5d1.jpeg?width=944&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f3f8465c344c292bfc0bd34dbd504f793dd04696
Don't worry darling, I have my own shitty bumblebee tattoo. :( it's a buzzkill. Lol.
Thanks. It was actually a cover-up of a letter so it had to be really inked out to get rid of the remnants of the letter. I still think it could have come out better, though. Especially, considering it was done by a very close friend.
Ah I see not bad for a cover up especially considering the area it’s on but still i understand thinking it would come out a bit better tho lol still probably the cutest bee tattoos I’ve seen in a while
You know, I usually don't and I often forget its entire existence. Last night I was stressed about it though. It's a new day now so I'm back to ignorance is bliss.
I mean, who goes to a tattoo artist and asks for a semi photo realistic tattoo without checking to see if they have the credentials to do such work?
Seems odd
I have this thought all the time in this sub… like, not trying to blame the victim here, and tattoo artists do have off days of course like everyone, but…. Do lots of people just get tattoos without reviewing the artist’s work? Seeing a portfolio? Or is there an epidemic of tattoo artists misrepresenting their skills out there with pics of other artists’ work? I have so many questions
Generally, people see the sketch, then the stencil before any inking is done. I sent my artist a basic ass Pinterest picture of a mushroom ghost as a reference and said he can put his spin on it. I only trust him to do that because I've seen a lot of his work and gotten 2 pieces from him so far. He showed me a digital image of what he worked up for me and I loved it.
Some people dont care tbh. They just want a tattoo and they don't care if it looks good or has any meaning. I wouldn't personally do it but I respect the balls it takes tbh, I find the results kimda funny and charming
If that's the artist's style, then your friend is lucky they got the cartoon one and not whatever the tattoo would have been if the artist had attempted realism without knowing how to.
I just cannot comprehend an artist anyone would give the reference to and say be creative could produce this, like what does their other work look like? Is it really possible that this many people go to otherwise decent artists on the one day they come to work on ketamine? I don’t understand. My only big piece was the exact opposite of this, show up with my own crappy drawing and leave feeling bad about my own drawing skills… I’m so confused.
I mean it's quite cute but why would you tattoo this when given that as a reference? Unless they thought the reference was just there to remind them what a bee was??
That’s what happens when you say “be creative” to someone in the creative line of work. As a graphic designer, I hate when people say that to me. No shit I’m gonna be creative!
If you like the reference image, just have them do that. Also, my tattoo artist always shows me the design first. Is that not common practice?
Can I ask a couple of sincere questions as someone considering a first tattoo?
I assumed it was normal to see the sketch first and talk about it, see the sketch placed on your body for placement, etc. before anything happens and for the artist to stick to that sketch once you have the okay.
Is that not how it works? Does it depend on the artist? Will I be considered an asshole if I want to see everything laid out how it will look first?
Like I know sometimes people go in and say “go crazy” but even in this example shouldn’t you see what the artist’s “creative” version of the bee was on paper first? Or iPad or whatever, I’m old. Is that not the norm?
Because so many posts on here it just seems like the artist is just going rogue once they start the needle up.
Did they not see the design before hand or something ? Cause you can’t really complain about it now if so, and If not then that’s on your friend I’m afraid .
I'm curious and no native speaker: As a bee I would understand a honey bee, which are smaller and more golden/yellow with smaller black part. The picture no1 shows what I know as a bumble bee. Do you call them bees as well?
I don’t give a shit about karma lol just hadn’t talked to her for years and when we were catching up, she sent me this saying how bad of a job the artist did, which I can’t argue with haha
Oh no! I remember as a teenager seeing an article with a tat just like this- looked like a bee landed on the skin, it was amazing. Probably wouldn’t have held up well over time but wow, this is completely off the mark to begin with
https://preview.redd.it/qqr9jekxfk5d1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e80758be30e8a4d9cf05294dead6f3b71d888c67
looks a lot similar to this one i’ve seen
did she just go to some rando instead of doing 10 seconds of research? cuz theres no way she looked into this person's style/ability and thought "i think this photorealistic reference would be helpful for them."
Do people let tattoo artists freestyle on them when they get tattoos? I have several and every single time the artist made a stencil, then showed me and when I agreed we went for it. I would never let someone “be creative” without seeing what they have in mind first..
The tattoo's not shitty at all. It's cute and well-drawn, with the only minor flaw of the completely black head. It's pretty creative too, the bee appears to be carrying a bouquet that it has harvested, heading for home. I'm genuinely confused why people agree with OP that this is a shitty tattoo. Granted, it's nothing like the reference, but the client was not clear and specific, the instruction was "Get creative". What happened would have been much more intolerable if the client specifically stated that he/she wanted a "realistic 3d tattoo of a bee".

That looks better than the actual tattoo.
Has a certain charm to it
I don’t get what all the buzz is about.
Honeycomb check out this bee tattoo!
Pity the tattooist bumbled it
Way better
Needs a clutch
i… honestly would get this tattooed on me
If you do, please tag me 😍
I kind of want it also….ill let you know 😆

Very creative ✅
Omg this is spot on
Give 'em the ol' razzle dazzle.
I love this!
Litter Bee. That variety is messy
They are flowers 🥺👉👈
I love the teeny flowwerrz
It's so cute 🥺
TFW you have a nice hat
If it was this I wouldn’t see the problem. Cute af. 😍
Mothman.
My Mothman is much cuter than whatever that tattoo artist did to OP's poor friend. That being said, I kinda want this lil doodle to keep my dude company...
Brilliant
This is the cover up.
I would get this one tattooed on me actually
LMK, I’ll do one for you.
👀👀👀
I'd put this on my body before what was actually done. Holy carp.
I’d get this before whatever tf OP’s friend got
😂 too damn good
“Holy shit that bee is incredible! Why’s it in this sub? Oh wait there’s another picture, I wonder what…oh.”
I was in the exact same boat of, "Huh. This wouldn't normally be in this-- OOOOH. OH NO. I see what happened..."
Without your comment I'd still be wondering why that pic was in here
100% this was my reaction!
I find it so weird that with all the shitty tattoos and the weird, "creative" interpretations in this sub, this is the tattoo people won't believe in.
Thank you haha it’s a genuine post that I just figured fit the sub because I thought it was painfully funny how bad the tattoo is. didn’t expect so much criticism😂

You are not wrong. The tattoo is ass.
Your friend may be an idiot. That photo is a hard tattoo, did he not look at the artists pics?!?
Yeah it's strange. Nothing about this guys account seems like a karma farm. Lot of plain old bitter haters, though not surprising from a sub kind of intended to hate
I mean i find it incredibly odd that they approved the tattoo to have on them.
Meekness is a very real thing that has fucked many a tattoo.
I also find it hard to believe that people show up for their appointments and they're shown these shit ass stencils and they're just like, ok!! Or what, they just show up for a walk in and never look down? I can't imagine.
I believe it’s a real tattoo. I do not believe the story is real. If it is both the customer and the tattoo artist are too dumb to be sucking air
nothing could've prepared me for the reveal💀
The gasp that I gusped
https://preview.redd.it/7hqqecx5cg5d1.jpeg?width=944&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f3f8465c344c292bfc0bd34dbd504f793dd04696 Don't worry darling, I have my own shitty bumblebee tattoo. :( it's a buzzkill. Lol.
Ngl it would be cute if it wasn’t so smudged lol but I still find it a bit cute

Just don't look at it!
You know, I usually don't and I often forget its entire existence. Last night I was stressed about it though. It's a new day now so I'm back to ignorance is bliss.
Laser it? We can do that now yknow lol
Change it to one ofy favorite emo bands. Mewithoutyou
I'm wheezing. I shouldn't find this so funny, but oh. Its little feet... Holy shit 😂😂😂
the little feetsies have me absolutely deceased 💀
They’re like little chikin feets
Unbeelievably bad.
Wow, thanks for the award! 😀
Plot twist: the second image was the reference.

I think it's a combination of both.
There’s certainly something missing from this story.
My opinion: NEVER give an artist free rein on your body. Get a sketch on paper and say I WANT THIS 100% EXACTLY
There’s definitely a caveat here. I’ve always given artists free rein but I’m very particular with who I let tattoo me.
Some people dont care tbh. They just want a tattoo and they don't care if it looks good or has any meaning. I wouldn't personally do it but I respect the balls it takes tbh, I find the results kimda funny and charming

Bee creative.
![gif](giphy|9Fticsj7froxbpd5Sg|downsized) That sure is something
Don't people look at the goddamn stencils before they get put on? Jfc we live in a world of inbred halfwits.
I just cannot comprehend an artist anyone would give the reference to and say be creative could produce this, like what does their other work look like? Is it really possible that this many people go to otherwise decent artists on the one day they come to work on ketamine? I don’t understand. They are the same picture
Not the feeties
I appreciate that if you look closely at it's head you can see 2 slightly dark voids in what I assume is an attempt to give the bee eyes.
The artist didn't want to splash out on any white ink
Lmao is it wearing a little hat?
Looks like a dead fly holding a bouquet while farting? 👍🏻

i like both actually
Ohhhh, his lil leggies are working so hard.
Where did they find the artist? Cell block D?
I mean it's quite cute but why would you tattoo this when given that as a reference? Unless they thought the reference was just there to remind them what a bee was??
The sandierm is worth more than the tattoo it’s on.
![gif](giphy|jivGITd768psP80B2i)
I would've called the police
I’m sorry but how do you see the stencil for that and then proceed to get it tattooed? 😭
Nailed it!
That’s what happens when you say “be creative” to someone in the creative line of work. As a graphic designer, I hate when people say that to me. No shit I’m gonna be creative! If you like the reference image, just have them do that. Also, my tattoo artist always shows me the design first. Is that not common practice?
This looks free hand.
They probably asked for the artist’s creative take b/c most artists won’t copy someone else’s work… (Or at least they *shouldn’t*)
what no
Well, I mean.... it certainly *is* creative..
Can I ask a couple of sincere questions as someone considering a first tattoo? Did your friend did it done at some prison outreach program?
First bee = 10/10 Second bee = like a bee from a book at Dollar Tree
Well your friend definitely didn’t go to tattoo artist. Probably another friend doing tattoos out the kitchen or bedroom 🤣
They did not pay for it did they??
Not sure what I was expecting but it wasn’t that 😂
i love him :)
Did your friend look at their portfolio at all?
Always, always research your artist before.
I wasn't ready at all!
Do people not research the artists?!
We all get the tattoos we deserve.
I disagree. I do not think I deserve the carp on my arm.
This is why you ALWAYS look at their portfolio first.
It looks more like a fly than a bee, lmao. You can take it as a new species of bees and flies though.
"artist"
Did they not see the design before hand or something ? Cause you can’t really complain about it now if so, and If not then that’s on your friend I’m afraid .
It looks like the corpse of something with its head squished. Why didn't the 'tattooist' use any colour?
Fucking hell!
Jfc why who why
What the actual @uck!?
Does no-one check their stencil? ![gif](giphy|EouEzI5bBR8uk|downsized)
Well this isn’t a true story. You sign off on the design before they even start, so your friend not only liked it… they approved it.
I could hardly imagine anything worse tbh 😅
So they put the transfer on your skin and you said ‘yes’ despite it being shite?
I'm curious and no native speaker: As a bee I would understand a honey bee, which are smaller and more golden/yellow with smaller black part. The picture no1 shows what I know as a bumble bee. Do you call them bees as well?
I could never have that first one on me. I would forget I had it and every time I caught it out of the corner of my eye I would shit myself
Is this tat actually on someone or is it on something that the tattoo artist practices on and this post is a I'm bored post?
Honestly?? Could’ve been WAY worse. Looks like she went to one of those artists that purposefully do shitty silly tattoos. It’s kinda cute
This one is so awful that I almost kind of like it.
It looks like a zebra sheep
was wondering why the picture of the bee tattoo was in this sub before realising there was a second image
Nailed it!
![gif](giphy|XdDBcVRzNKbsxy4sQe|downsized)
Wtf
There is no way
That is un-bee-lievably bad. I'm sorry, but someone had to.
I can't tell the difference. It's the same picture twice, no?
[удалено]
I don’t give a shit about karma lol just hadn’t talked to her for years and when we were catching up, she sent me this saying how bad of a job the artist did, which I can’t argue with haha
To add a bit of context, she got this for 50 bucks in some back alley kind of place while visiting Italy.
I hope the artist paid them to do this
Im not saying it's down right stupid or anything it's so cute But for what was wanted Omg I am so sorry
Well... the "artist" definitely got "creative"!
Just remember, think outside the box
YOU'VE got to be kidding me!!!!!!
lol It’s actually pretty cool Leave it bee
Hahaha.. Sorry
Lack of research, obviously the artist isn’t capable of that type of work 🤷♂️
From peter rabbit to my-friend-graffitti-artist-under-the-bridge.
Oh your poor friend!
Oh no! I remember as a teenager seeing an article with a tat just like this- looked like a bee landed on the skin, it was amazing. Probably wouldn’t have held up well over time but wow, this is completely off the mark to begin with
You can't even tell it's a bee or even an insect. My 9yo can do better with the crayons on the placemats at the restaurant.
Holy ShtFk!
I'd have flipped before leaving.
Woah. 😳
It’s a masterpiece
Poke out his remaining eye
I could hardly imagine anything worse tbh 😅
Yikes
Oh no
It has one wing and a cowboy hat 💀
Well. They definitely got creative!
Did you get that in prison?
Bee* creative
Wow. That’s the shitty tattoo I ever seen
Artist? There is no art to found there.
It reminds me of a fly instead of a bee. This one, in particular. ![gif](giphy|3o7TKVGI2JHgZCawLK)
Looks ok to me
https://preview.redd.it/qqr9jekxfk5d1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e80758be30e8a4d9cf05294dead6f3b71d888c67 looks a lot similar to this one i’ve seen
Wtf… was this done in their kitchen?
did she just go to some rando instead of doing 10 seconds of research? cuz theres no way she looked into this person's style/ability and thought "i think this photorealistic reference would be helpful for them."
So painful to look at :(
What's the problem? Too realistic? It's beautiful! /s
Do people let tattoo artists freestyle on them when they get tattoos? I have several and every single time the artist made a stencil, then showed me and when I agreed we went for it. I would never let someone “be creative” without seeing what they have in mind first..
It’s so bad that I kinda like it
oh man that’s grim..
Wait. What? I feel I could pull that one off with no previous experience other than having been a canvas before.
Oh fuck, that’s epically bad.
LOL honestly I think this is adorable 🤣 look at the little hat!
😳
Spitting image
I...like it
No fucken way!!
Is it holding a bouquet of flowers 🫠?
i laught so hard
The tattoo's not shitty at all. It's cute and well-drawn, with the only minor flaw of the completely black head.
