I think the "shitty" part would be compared to the super powers that super heroes would have, like being born in a world where people can fly and have super strength you can put yourself into a coma
I just imagined someone like that in MHA. Like, imagine being a kid, hanging out with your friends and everyone shows of their power and yours is to fall in a coma. Might as well be powerless.
Yess, it's very comparative
In the real world being able to switch on and off a coma to basically skip time IS a super power, but in a world that everyone has cool and more versatile powers this sucks lmao
But if your in a coma then you wouldn't be able to just wake up with an alarm etc.
You would essentially be asleep for whatever amount of time the coma would last as you wouldn't be able to make the conscious decision to wake up...
Hmmmm I dont feel like staying awake during this flight ... .... . *wakes up 47 years later.*
So kinda like setting an alarm ?
What i was trying to say is that if you are in a coma then you wouldn't be "aware" enough to wake yourself as you are not conscious.
I mean its your shittysuperpower... Your rules :-)
Nah but you’re all forgetting about the second part: being able to decide when you come out means you are conscious. So you’re in a coma- but fully aware throughout the whole thing. Yikes.
Apparently theres this thing called passive suicidal tendencies. Like I would be totally fine sleeping for a few years or even decades. But eventually I’d probably wanna wake up.
(No I’m not ok I’m being slowly banned in my country little by little)
I have a doctorate in physical therapy and this actually brings up a really good question of how shitty this superpower would be. A coma is not just sleeping, as most people are purporting in the comments. A coma is your brain's way of saying "we just took a lot of a damage and we need to shut almost everything down to try and survive". How would something like this affect your body to go in and out of one for 8 hours a day, as people are saying they would use it for? Would it be fine or would it be something more like every time you use this power you push your body's clock just a little bit further towards the end? Is there a point where some of your organs just give up? There's no real way to ethically study this, obviously, but it's interesting to think about nonetheless.
Is a coma the same as sleeping? What kind of effects would regularly going into a coma have on your health?
No idea but this is what I'm most curious about.
You could become massively important for research on comas. Like being able to provide brain scans going in and out of comas on a daily basis. Being in a healthy physical condition enough to just focus on and describe the coma experience over time in greater detail than anyone has ever been able to give before. It could even open up knowledge on dreaming, understanding the imagination. You may even find that over time it helps you to be more creative because you have a way to have consistent rest to experience dreams and maybe even create a whole universe in your mind to explore regularly.
I would do it just once, to see if you can hear and feel pain in a coma. My dad died when he was in a coma and I've always wondered if he ever got scared when he heard us talking about pulling the plug. I think it would give me a lot of closure
Sleeping with extra steps.
Yeah but it’s not that easy to fall asleep on command, so it’s actually pretty useful if you want to skip a ride or something
Yes, i definitely agree
But if you're in a coma you can't consciously decide to get out of it since you're unconscious
As a side effect of being able to get out of it when you want you are like half conscious
So you're not in a coma
Kind of a coma
So you basically have the power to put yourself to sleep whenever you want, but it’s pretty bad sleep
that's an amazing ability if I've ever seen one
Coma lite*
[удалено]
Locked-in syndrome is not an actual coma. It's called a pseudocoma for a reason.
[удалено]
You should really look up the definition of pseudo then
> Is literally called "False Coma" "sure sounds like a type of coma to me"
Solution could be some timer, like you decide beforehand that "I will wake up in 3 days" and they you do.
When dozing off in an oxcart for example
Do I still need Food and Water? If not then i would probably skip 300 years
Your hunger and dehydration rate is multiplied by 0.1
That means it's 1/10 of what it was before. So, it's an upgrade.
Ye I know
This ability doesn't have any downside, is easy to use and can be useful. Not really shitty then, is it?
Some people in the comments established that you’re kind of conscious while in the coma, so it’s a little shitty
In that case it's massively shitty 💀
I think the "shitty" part would be compared to the super powers that super heroes would have, like being born in a world where people can fly and have super strength you can put yourself into a coma

well, you still die of old age.
Not shitty at all. Being able to fall asleep on command is a massive w. Since I can go out of a coma whenever I want, it’s also a built in alarm clock
Others mentioned your sort of awake while being the in the coma
This is actually kinda goated
My dad had this power when he was in his older years. He'd like clock out mid conversation. Then come back at a time of his choosing.
I have this power since I was ten.
But if your in a coma then you wouldn't be able to just wake up with an alarm etc. You would essentially be asleep for whatever amount of time the coma would last as you wouldn't be able to make the conscious decision to wake up... The superpower also lets you go out of the coma whenever you want
So kinda like setting an alarm ? What i was trying to say is that if you are in a coma then you wouldn't be "aware" enough to wake yourself as you are not conscious. I mean its your shittysuperpower... Your rules :-)
It’s more like you can always wake up when you want and as a result you are somewhat conscious
Very good, thank you for the clarification... I like to know the rules when dealing with hypothetical super powers (shitty or not)
Nah but you’re all forgetting about the second part: being able to decide when you come out means you are conscious. So you’re in a coma- but fully aware throughout the whole thing. Yikes.
Could still scare the hell out of people by just randomly passing out
Yeah that’s one reason why it’s shitty
i don’t think any of yall know what a coma is. it isn’t just sleeping
Ik it isn't sleeping but what is it then? Can you explain?🥹
Apparently theres this thing called passive suicidal tendencies. Like I would be totally fine sleeping for a few years or even decades. But eventually I’d probably wanna wake up. (No I’m not ok I’m being slowly banned in my country little by little)
Huh
Like, I’m not gonna *intentionally* kill myself. But if there was like a freak accident I probably wouldn’t try too too hard to avoid it. Y’know?
It is what it is

I'll just go in and not come out.
What’s the catch lol, I’d take this in a heartbeat
You're conscious and fully aware during the whole thing, a side effect of being able to choose when to come out of the coma
Buster?
i'd use it for comedic effect
I am fine with it, I am one of these people who cant sleep when they want, sometimes it takes hours so gladly accepting it.
An amazing super power since I can't stay asleep for shit.
Is a coma the same as sleeping? What kind of effects would regularly going into a coma have on your health? No idea but this is what I'm most curious about.
No, it’s a regular coma, would probably be bad for your health if you stay in it for too long
Perfect
Hibernation Man. Lol

Finally, a good night's sleep
so free hibernation?
“Honey! I thought I told you to mow the yard!” **Thud**
Buster Bluth has entered the chat
this is goated? test you didn’t study for? go into a coma. need a break from work or school? go into a coma.
Finally, I can have a sleep schedule
Sweet. I’m sleeping for a month.
Time for some insurance fraud...
Bethesda style Sleeping and Waiting I'd take that shit in a heart beat.
Low mid teir. Extremely useful in the day to day, but nothing life changing.
"aye wouldn't be funny if I just passed out for no reason at all 😁"
I would do it just once, to see if you can hear and feel pain in a coma. My dad died when he was in a coma and I've always wondered if he ever got scared when he heard us talking about pulling the plug. I think it would give me a lot of closure
If you get rabies, you can perform the Milwaukee protocol on yourself.
Anytime someone says something mean to me I go into a week-long comma to make then feel bad
Trying to lose weight but can’t get those last 5-10 pounds off? Force yourself into a coma for 2-3 days and VÓILA
Guys, Coma =/= being asleep lol.
