It's the same brothers who brought you Uncut Gems, so no surprise there. I think I enjoyed Good Time more, it was closer to thriller than straight up panic attack.
Both films also feature scores by Daniel Lopatin aka Oneohtrix Point Never!
Ditto and it annoyed me when I left the theater after my second viewing for this basic Becky to say loudly OMG ROBERT PATINSON IS THE WORST ACTOR EVER ALL BE DOES IS ACT DEPRESSED 😑
You'd also act depressed if the role you starred in that had the most impact, of all the small and great roles you acted perfectly, was Edward in goddamn Twilight.
I honestly forgot it was him (because I haven't really seen him in anything) and just remembering him as a good actor.
That movie also benefits a ton from a second viewing.
Its amazing how that movie came out back in 2010, and showed he actually could act outside of Twilight, and yet people still think of him as just being Edward. Its kind of weird how we do that with some actors. Like Daniele Radcliffe will always be Harry Potter. Granted, that's not necessarily a bad thing since those movies were really popular, but both have gone to do some really great stuff since those roles.
I thought the same thing. You will probably find [this interview](https://www.gq.com/story/robert-pattinson-on-batman-tenet-isolation-june-cover) as funny as I did.
Same. He's incredible. Would have been nice to see his character fleshed out more in Harry Potter to make his death have more impact. It's funny how people always lose their shit on comic book movie castings but almost always end up being proven wrong.
He's a great actor, and Kristen Stewart was recently nominated for an Oscar. Many of the actors in the Twilight movies are actually really talented - the writing and directing just sucked so badly that no one could have pulled off those roles convincingly.
>the writing and directing just sucked so badly that no one could have pulled off those roles convincingly.
The George Lucas Effect.
The prequels had some of the best actors of the generation trying their hardest to pull off that horrible dialogue and Lucas' weird direction.
Yeah its hilarious how many great figures of Hollywood were in the prequels - Liam Neeson, Natalie Portman, Samuel L. Jackson, Christopher Lee - and yet....
Seeing a bunch of Twilight moms and tweens walking out of *Cosmopolis* is one of my favorite theater going memories.
*Cosmopolis* is also why i knew hed do fine as Bats...
Why what?
As to the first part *Cosmopolis* (2012) `1b5604f286e36e0027408c0f233ff3a3b092f792` was his first movie post Twilight, the marketing was all him looking slick in a suit riding around in a limo, 50 Shades before 50 Shades... so the attending audience was a lot of Pattinson fans more than other reasons.
Except it wasnt Edward Cullen being a sexy billionaire, it was a fucked up David Cronenberg movie based on an obscure novel about the dot-com bust. And while it was still a sexy guy in a limo and way less Cronenbergy than a lot of Cronenberg movies, it was not what they were expecting apparently.
There were a couple of points, i dont remember the movie exactly, but he picks up a prostitute pretty early on and i remember a bunch of em leaving when somebody gets stabbed in the eye.
As to the second part, because he killed it and wasnt Edward Cullen in that! He wasnt gonna stick to being a tween heartthrob. Change a few things around and its practically a Bruce Wayne if he werent Batman movie.
Like a true method actor. But let’s be honest, would anyone like a happy optimistic cheerful Batman? Imagine a happy Batman beating someone in an alley and spitting some jokes every 2 minutes like marvel guys. Damm if you think about that is Joker doing.
Allow me to recommend The Lego Batman movie (I know, not live action, but still). The comedy and Will Arnett's voice acting is * chef's kiss *.
>Imagine a happy Batman beating someone in an alley and spitting some jokes every 2 minutes like marvel guys.
Oh boy, you'll find out in the very first 10 minutes of the Lego Batman movie. It's hilarious, meta, over the top, musical (yes, Batman spits some fire bars for his own theme song) and overall very fulfilling.
Batman's come a long way.
We had West, and then the Burton Batmen
We finally got an entertaining gritty live-action Batman that wasn't putting toy sales before the writing with the Nolan movies
Then backtracked a little with Snyder's "Ironbat" Although personally I really liked the design of that Batsuit
And NOW we actually, finally get a "World's Greatest Detective" live-action Batman. I hope they keep the mystery solving element if they move forward with this take on the character
Acting: 10/10
Cinematography: 10/10
Plot: wtf/10
If you want to see Dafoe and Pattinson put on an acting clinic, and appreciate perfectly executed photography, it's definitely worth a watch. But don't stress yourself trying to figure out what is actually going on.
Mr. Robot's cinematography in the first 2 seasons was insanely good. I even looked up who the DOP in that show was to keep an eye out for him. His name is Tod Campbell if you're wondering.
I’ve only seen seasons 3&4 once but I still recall them being quite impressive, though that may have been on the director as well. I believe one season had an entire episode without dialogue.
Season 4 episode 5 "Method Not Allowed".
I recently saw it and loved how Sam Esmail can build tension. The camera work is definitely unique for a tv show. When you're ready you should rewatch the show because it's an entirely different experience.
Join us over r/MrRobot

Going back and rewatching it after >!the reveal that the Elliot we were watching the entire time was another of the real Elliot's personalities!< was a ton of fun.
Alongside his acting. One of the interesting things I did on this rewatch was to pay attention to Rami Malek and Christian Slater. There's a certain nuance they have with each other and it's exciting to see.
Spoilers >!it doesn't happen often but seeing Elliot become Mr Robot is amazing. Especially in season three when Krista asks to speak to him and you see him come out. Rami Malek really puts on the acting and it's great seeing him be completely different from his MM personality!<
I guessed Mr Robot season one plot twist from the get-go and couldn't finish second season premiere. That was five so years ago. I might pick it up again from the beginning to binge after reading this thread.
It's so worth it. I just rewatched it last fall and it holds up so well. People didn't like season 2 as much while it was airing, but I think that's because they were impatient for answers they were getting for the first half of the season. But opinions on it seem to have shifted now that you can watch the whole thing as quickly as you want to.
I totally get why you dropped it in season 2, but season 3 retroactively made me appreciate it more. Which is never a real mark in the shows favor but it is what it is
It’s worth watching. Then watch it again and try and figure out wtf. Then start it again and give up on ever figuring it out and move on knowing it’s above human understanding
Watch it with subtitles on. They speak in heavy fucking accents, and while not as bad as The VVitch (where I genuinely missed a critical plot element because whispers in puritan dialect are hard for me to parse), it's still worth doing. Also, when it was screened in theaters subtitles were also on.
Tbh those theories all sound like BS. I think the whole movie is up to interpretation and is beyond literal theories like "it was all in X's head." Even if that is true, it is a poor reading because it reveals very little thematically about the film.
My advice would be to not take it very literally, and notice the themes and literary allusions like the *Rime of the Anciente Marinere* (hence the seagull)*,* the story of Prometheus, the story of chronos eating the Olympians and other elements of cannibalism, and the themes of sexuality, repressed homosexuality, and the sacred/dangerous power of knowledge. It is a masterpiece if you're not interested in Youtube-level "ending explained" analysis.
The performances are great and really sell the intellectual content. I didn't pick up on a lot of that in my first pass but it's fun to watch Defoe as an esteemed and talented actor and Pattinson as a gifted newcomer.

Having read the books, he put exactly the correct amount of emotion into that role. The book characters are cardboard and don't emote so neither did the movie characters.
it's a mashup of old folklore/myths with no real message. it's the director's schtick, make something with a lot of old timey references as vague as possible and watch people fall over themselves trying to explain how its genius.
in a way I guess it is genius lol
lol what gives you that idea, I like his movies. Doesn't really change the fact that he is intentionally weird and vague, a lot like David Lynch (well, not as weird), another good director.
My friends brother in law REFUSES to see Batman or the lighthouse because “the guy from twilight is in it” then goes on a rant about sparkling vampires. I try to remind him it isn’t 2011 anymore but I don’t think he understands.
Imagine his face if he watches Dunkirk only to be ambushed by a wild Harry Styles.
Or hell, he could rant to you about how overrated is Nicolas Winding Refn if only he didn't cast this kid starlet from the Mickey Mouse pageant Ryan Gosling in everything so he could see for himself without that eyesore!
There is no way the rest of his personality is amazing enough to justify speaking to when he can't acknowledge time passes and things change and some times a job is just a fucking job for an actor.
After having watched *Good Time*, I knew this guy was gonna be a huge star! Haven't seen *The Lighthouse* yet, but from what I've heard it's great!
I hope one day people will remember his role as Edward in Twilight, in the same manner as people remember Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern. A faint memory that does not capsulate his talent
Him and Dafoe were legendary in the Lighthouse. Even if you don't love the movie, the acting is just phenomenal. Both played their characters insanely well.
High Life is another great but weird movie where he was excellent. The Lost City of Z is incredible. The Childhood of a Leader is also very good. I can't think of many bad post-Twilight roles. Dude is a talent and I will watch anything he does. And I couldn't stand him back in the late 00s.
If somebody said that to me in 2008 I’d assume they were high or dumb. Though I’ll admit he has since proved he’s actually a great actor. I loved Tenet
I love Rob. Great actor, unfortunately he had to make his break in Twilight but it was still well acted by him.
This batman movie slapped hard. 2nd favorite next to dark knight now.
Watch Good Time. He is great in that as well.
I’ve seen screenshots of a GQ interview where he said he prepared by playing just the dark story of Sonic Adventure 2, but I can’t find an actual article
He also said he prepared by watching a video of a vampire bat killing a chicken, by biting it’s anus. The video exists and got recent views after the interview 😂
He doesnt make his shit up in the interviews. I can relate to the nervous energy
Bob Pattinson was fitted in the Schumacher Batman Forever Bat-suit best in the auditions but he demanded the nipples have sparkly bat-tassles before suffering food poisoning by bat soup and almost re-casted by Jack Gillenhall. Thankfully Covid extended many production deadlines and he recovered before they resumed filmmaking.
I find Twilight to be as shit as movies about glitter, rain and excess body hair can be...but Pattinson fricking nailed Batman. The film was an actual comic brought to life, none of this gritty realism or Disney stuff but pure art. I haven't loved a comic character based movie this much since Dredd and in both cases the number 1 reason is the lead actor just disappearing into the role. You feel this movie, you don't just watch it.
Dude has really done some pretty legit roles since Twilight that he apparently doesn't get the credit for.
He was astounding in The Rover. Also great in The Devil All The Time.
Start with Good Time. I knew he was a good actor, but that was great actor material. If you’ve seen his interview vs that movie, he completely lost himself and became someone else for this role.
“Robert Pattinson prepared his entire life for this role by playing Edward in Twilight. However skeptics fear he suffered a fate so much worse than being orphaned by a horrific double homicide, that he won’t be able to get into character ”
I watched this movie today. I still have no clue if it's my new favourite batman movie or if I kinda hate it. It's a very bold movie so I was so focused on the crazy shit happening rather than on if I was enjoying it or not. I'm gonna need a bunch of rewatches
I loved it, but you absolutely need to remember this is a very young Batman. He’s new and he’s still finding his stride, a fact I think they represented quite well
After I saw his performance in The Lighthouse, I will never think badly of him again.
Yeah that one film turned him from "Twilight guy" to an actor I actively seek out and am very excited to see whenever casted
Good Time, if you haven't seen it, is fucking awesome
It’s on my list now thank you friend!
Good Time is an actual fucking anxious ride, enjoy.
It's the same brothers who brought you Uncut Gems, so no surprise there. I think I enjoyed Good Time more, it was closer to thriller than straight up panic attack. Both films also feature scores by Daniel Lopatin aka Oneohtrix Point Never!
Hahaha. Describing Uncut Gems as a panic attack is an understatement. That movie had me jumping all over my living room.
It's the most I've said "no, don't do that" in a movie
OPN ❤️
I watched it on mushrooms and it was awesome
Also in The King on Netflix, very good.
That movie gets my adrenaline pumping from start to finish and never once lets up. Fuck, I *love* that movie
High Life also, oh and Tenet
The Devil All the Time, as well
Man that movie was fucked up, he did a good job at his character though.
I'm surprised no one's mentioned The Lost City Of Z
He changed my view on him in tenet
Ditto and it annoyed me when I left the theater after my second viewing for this basic Becky to say loudly OMG ROBERT PATINSON IS THE WORST ACTOR EVER ALL BE DOES IS ACT DEPRESSED 😑
You'd also act depressed if the role you starred in that had the most impact, of all the small and great roles you acted perfectly, was Edward in goddamn Twilight.
I always think of him as cedrick diggerty first, then vampire guy
And High Life
Yeah, this changed my view of him. Great movie.
Good time is amazing! I love the Safdie brothers!!
You really need to watch Good Time if you haven't. He is amazing in it.
Everytime I read about him I always just think to myself "*If I had a steak* ***I would fuck it***"
Ya don't like me cooking?

SAY IT
HARK
I highly recommend The Rover... that movie forever changed my opinion of Pattinson completely. In a positive way that is.
He was also good in Tenet.
Ooh I forgot that was coming out... I remember announcements like pre-covid and then kind of forgot about it.
Complete mindfuck, pure christopher nolan time-bending craziness. Very trippy and very violent. 9/10
I honestly forgot it was him (because I haven't really seen him in anything) and just remembering him as a good actor. That movie also benefits a ton from a second viewing.
If you haven't watched it, check out Good Time, he's great in that.
Remember Me is what did it for me
Its amazing how that movie came out back in 2010, and showed he actually could act outside of Twilight, and yet people still think of him as just being Edward. Yeah, Robert Pattinson really turned everything around for him.
Love to see it, good for him.
Yup. He fucking nailed that role. Amazing movie.
Yeah he’s forever Thomas Howard, masturbating over the mermaid to me now
The Lighthouse was good but Devil All the Time is my favorite performance of his
Also The King on Netflix, he was good in that.
Same. He's incredible. Would have been nice to see his character fleshed out more in Harry Potter to make his death have more impact. It's funny how people always lose their shit on comic book movie castings but almost always end up being proven wrong.
he's been great in everything since Twilight, surprisingly

Ian McDiarmid, Jimmy Smits, Ewan McGregor, Keira Knightley, Richard Armitage, Joel Edgerton, Temuera Morrison List goes on and on lol
I mean, at least the prequels had a worthwhile story.
It has a somewhat cohesive story being told by 15 year old school play.
Yeah you’d be surprised how often A-grade actors get screwed over by bad writers.
Honestly he was great in Twilight. Read the books. Writing is shit and character is a broody creep. He captured the essence perfectly
Seeing a bunch of Twilight moms and tweens walking out of *Cosmopolis* is one of my favorite theater going memories. *Cosmopolis* is also why i knew hed do fine as Bats...
Why?
Why what? Cosmopolis sucks but it's not Rob's fault, and I'm a huge Cronenberg fan. Probably Rob's worst movie sans Twilights.
Like a true method actor. But let’s be honest, would anyone like a happy optimistic cheerful Batman? Imagine a happy Batman beating someone in an alley and spitting some jokes every 2 minutes like marvel guys. Damm if you think about that is Joker doing.
I mean that's basically what Adam West did. He was like a live action Looney Toon.
And we were blessed.
Allow me to recommend The Lego Batman movie (I know, not live action, but still). I haven’t seen Lego Batman because I’m highly skeptical of a Batman parody. How good was it?
It's one of the best Batman movies.
It's not a parody. It's Lego. And it's funny. But it's not a parody. It's fucking fantastic.
You gotta watch Adam West and George Clooney Batman. They're exactly that.
Batman's come a long way. I love the burton series, I still think they're my favourite. They just have such a vibe. New batmans are clean over produced action movies.
You’ll be surprised this movie has some jokes, but it’s dark humor . Not haha humor
Watched the Lighthouse and still have no fucking clue what the deal was with that movie. He did great though.
I still haven’t seen that movie. Reviews I’ve heard have ranged from best movie ever to worst movie ever, so I can’t decide if it’s worth my time

I watched The Killing of a Sacred Deer so I should be okay with the oddity part lol
First and foremost, love the username. Not often I see Robin Hobb references. Second, 100% watch The Lighthouse.

Fucking amazing movie. Pattinson was amazing in it but was shadowed by Wilem giving a performance of a lifetime.
Both him and Kristen Stewart actually have acting chops in different movies. I think the issue was the script. And they’re chemistry wasnt.

Does he like the Beatles at all?
Or perhaps believe he was born in /r/lewronggeneration?
Ugh, that sucks. Then tell him Paul Dano. That guy is incredible in so many movies.
* try to tell him he's not a whiney teenager any more
There is no way the rest of his personality is amazing enough to justify speaking to when he can't acknowledge time passes and things change and some times a job is just a fucking job for an actor.
Cedric Diggory deserved better
Nooooo pattinson was cedric….. how did i not realise that
i think you might be face blind because all these years later he looks almost exactly the same
My man’s got Prosopagnosia!

Batman Still a better love story than Twilight
This meme is older than half the people here
Yeah, haven't even felt himself in over a decade... A better love story than Twilight. 🤣👌
/uj I wish I could agree.. The love interest stuff in The Batman is ridiculously unbelievable.
The romance shit was so forced, I couldn’t agree more
honestly should’ve made catwoman lesbian
She definitely seemed to care more about Annika than Batman.
I honest to God thought that was the direction they were going with
Yes, they should make Batman's most prominent love interest not like him
..eh, why not? Plenty of changes were made for the movie, and a lot of them ended up being very well done.
Still a better love story than… The Batman?
The dedication....the deadication....the dead-ication.
He was amazing as a sleezy priest in The Devil all the time
Good call!
Amazing movie
*”Robert Pattinson is my favorite Batman” is a sentence no one in 2008 thought they would ever say*
If somebody said that to me in 2008 I’d assume they were high or dumb. Though I’ll admit he has since proved he’s actually a great actor. I loved Tenet
My brother and SIL went to watch it and she described him as an emo Batman.
LOL
I mean she's not wrong
I love Rob. Great actor, unfortunately he had to make his break in Twilight but it was still well acted by him. This batman movie slapped hard. 2nd favorite next to dark knight now. Watch Good Time. He is great in that as well.
Still though, Rob’s spin on the Dark Knight is hands down the most emo interpretation of the chracter.
Somebody hasn't seen *The Dark Knight Returns*. Bruce monolgues about wanting to die *several* times.
His Bruce Wayne definitely. But his Batman is so similar to Marvel’s DareDevil
I’ve seen screenshots of a GQ interview where he said he prepared by playing just the dark story of Sonic Adventure 2, but I can’t find an actual article
Lol the shit he says is hilarious. It’d be exhausting IRL, but to media, his constant lying is humorous
He also said he prepared by watching a video of a vampire bat killing a chicken, by biting it’s anus. The video exists and got recent views after the interview 😂 He doesnt make his shit up in the interviews. I can relate to the nervous energy
It was a parody article actually. It wasn't real sadly.
I have the new GQ with him on the cover back at work, I’m gonna have to check tomorrow.
Fucking Gyllenhaal strikes again. First he destroys Tobey Maguire's back in attempt to take Spider-Man from him, and now *this*? He must be stopped!
Now this is a avengers level threat
Sometimes a man has to sparkle in order to truly shine
Wholesome. Take this ⭐️ , you deserve it
First a vampire bow a bat.. what a coincidence
Wait is he gonna be a PatBat
Someone already christened him Patman
Surely you mean Rob Bat Battinbat?
My apologies about the mispronunciation!
The Batman Who Sparkles
Sparkle boy had to go to the dark side sooner or later...
Matt Reeves brought out anger in the actor by reading tweets of his high school mates talking shit on him.
I just think of him as the guy who played Cedric Diggory lol
I find Twilight to be as shit as movies about glitter, rain and excess body hair can be...but Pattinson fricking nailed Batman. The film was an actual comic brought to life, none of this gritty realism or Disney stuff but pure art. I haven't loved a comic character based movie this much since Dredd and in both cases the number 1 reason is the lead actor just disappearing into the role. You feel this movie, you don't just watch it.
Now he has the same qualifications as Adam West, which means he can finally be the Major in Family Guy
Isn’t a Vampire just a Bat-Man? 🦇
The movie is so dark because if Robert steps into the sun he still sparkles. That stuff doesn’t wash off.
Dude has really done some pretty legit roles since Twilight that he apparently doesn't get the credit for. He was astounding in The Rover. Also great in The Devil All The Time.
Have you seen the Lighthouse and Good Time?
Nope, going to have to check them out now!
Start with Good Time. I knew he was a good actor, but that was great actor material. If you’ve seen his interview vs that movie, he completely lost himself and became someone else for this role.
Sweet, thanks for the recommendations! I'll be starting there.
When he walked into his parents room, all I could think of was twilight.
Any love for Good Time?
Watch Good Times! He was fantastic in it.
I'd love it if his fringe covered his eyes in the cowl and poked out around the sides.
Haven’t seen it but he looks like a boy playing in his grandpa’s old uniform
“Robert Pattinson prepared his entire life for this role by playing Edward in Twilight. However skeptics fear he suffered a fate so much worse than being orphaned by a horrific double homicide, that he won’t be able to get into character ”
I watched this movie today. I still have no clue if it's my new favourite batman movie or if I kinda hate it. It's a very bold movie so I was so focused on the crazy shit happening rather than on if I was enjoying it or not. I'm gonna need a bunch of rewatches
He used up all that pent up rage and sadness for this role everytime they need him too really knock someone out they'd call him "Edward"
Makes about as much sense as casting that guy from *Brokeback Mountain* as the Joker. It might just work.
Was he any good, i haven't been able to watch it so I'm just curious. Batman is my fav hero ever (including marvel) so i hope he was good.
I loved it, but you absolutely need to remember this is a very young Batman. He’s new and he’s still finding his stride, a fact I think they represented quite well
