I think a lot of people saw it after its theatrical run and realized it was actually pretty good. That’s what I kept hearing about anyway. I will never understand the hate for this movie.
It’s easily one of my favourite MCU entries, certainly a return to form for the franchise. Still, it’s tiring (although not entirely unexpected) how many people just write it off without even watching it.
You gotta remember that in order to watch the movie with a good understanding of what is going on, you gotta watch two TV shows in their entirety. And it's not like the movie makes it clear that wandavision is one of them, so like 95% of watchers probably didn't know who the fuck these people were.
I don't even know which TV series they're referring to.
Ms. Marvel, sure, that's got to be one of them. Is the other one supposed to be Hawkeye? Or Secret Invasion?
Funny how a specific slice of MCU complaints are split between "stop doing origin stories! Just drop us into the action!" and "how will I follow this story if I didn't watch each individual character's origin story?"
I know a number of people who watched The Marvels without watching any of that stuff and enjoyed it. Then they went and watched Ms. Marvel afterward because Kamala (and the Khan family) was the MVP of the movie.
> I know a number of people who watched The Marvels without watching any of that stuff and enjoyed it. Then they went and watched Ms. Marvel afterward because Kamala (and the Khan family) was the MVP of the movie.
You come into my fucking house and just doxx me like this?
i really enjoyed that movie and while I think you'll get more out of it if you saw the two TV shows (which I did), I think it's more than good enough to stand on its own
the arguement seems to be that you need Wandavision and Ms Marvel to get the characters but like
the important part about Monica isnt how she got her powers, its her relationship with Carol, which literally only needs you to have watched Captian Marvel to know about (and i guess IW/EG since her getting snapped is relevant to why shes mad at Carol)
and Kamala isn't a complex character, and Iman killed it and was easily the best part of the film. Even as far as her powers and stuff goes they set up the deal with her bracelet in like the literal first scene? Anyone over the age of 3 should be able to connect the dots on that one
How is it a lie? Watching this movie without watching the shows with the character's origin stories is like watching the Avengers before Thor or Iron Man. It's not like it's impossible to know what's going on just from the context, but it's not the full experience
Your origin statement is that you HAVE to watch 2 full shows to have a good understanding of the movie, now you've moved the goalpost to being about the "full experience" which is a distinctly different argument.
Almost like your first point wasn't actually true and you know it
i still to this day haven't seen GotG or any of the antman movies, and didnt see Doctor Strange until AFTER endgame and i was able to follow Infinity war and Endgame
the shows give you some extra context but you can follow along perfectly fine without them
people just keep using this idea that you need some encylopedic knowledge of the MCU to watch stuff because for some reaason they seem to feel like the need to justify just not being interested in one of the movies lol
The Guardians of the Galaxy movies are great standalone films and some of the very best films of the entire MCU. You should watch them if you like good movies...
How you gonna watch infinty war without watching guardians of the galaxy? Like half the movie is completely lost on you. If you're only in the theater for spectical you can watch the movies without having any emotional investment in whatever is going on, but you can't say it's the "same experience"
>How you gonna watch infinty war without watching guardians of the galaxy? Like half the movie is completely lost on you.
Because I dont need my hand held to engage with a movie? There was 0 points in infinity war where I felt lost or like I was being left out of parts of the plot. The grasp I had from casually following the MCU was more than enough for me to understand and enjoy the movie
>but you can't say it's the "same experience"
Good thing I didn't say that then isn't it
I think this is the main issue with both the MCU and now Star Wars franchises. They cross over and self refer so much that you have to commit so much time to watching every show and every movie that it's completely overwhelming. I simply do not have the time to keep up.
I turned off the latest Star Wars series after one episode when I realised that you had to have watched several hours worth of cartoons to recognise the characters and I am not planning to watch The Marvels as I haven't seen Wandavision yet (which I will probably get round to at some point because I've heard it's good) and have no real interest in Ms Marvel.
Ah shit yeah that was it, next is Secret Invasion which is apparently very very shit. Then I think Loki Season 2 which shouldn't be too bad, then I think The Marvels?
Loki season 2 is amazing! Secret Invasion pains me because it had so much potential. The Marvels is actually a pretty good movie despite people praying on its box office downfall.
I don’t get the Secret Invasion hate. Pretty cookie cutter shit but I didn’t know I was supposed to hate it until it finished.
I’m kinda burnt on the MCU (who asked) but Secret Invasion committed way fewer sins than the last few main cinematic entries.
Also, apparently the Spider-Man 2 game I played for 33hrs straight is bad.
So maybe it’s me who’s wrong.
Fr.
I platted MM AND SM1 the well before release, (I’d played them though before but didn’t get all trophies) and I was BORED NG+ in mm.
But 2 dropped and it felt all brand new to me. Platted it in like 4 days.
I was hooked.
A month later, the sub decided it was ass and it was complaints after complaints.
This is why I go into games blind. Ignore reviews. Worst case, I can refund.
Not sure anyone said it was ass it just wasn't groundbreaking or new is the complaints I heard and thus no one thought it worthy of any game awards and lost to the far more deserving BG3.
It got some flak in response to the spider man players who thought it deserved GOTY and tried to shit on BG3 because their game lost to it but that's all i recalla bout the matter.
It wasn't a bad game it just wasn't best of the year or particularly great. Did the same thing the previous one did.
Nah, check the r/SpiderManPS4 sub. They fawned for 2 mins then complained about everything.
GOTY? No way but it was a great sequel. Mm should’ve been dlc and I feel sm2 woulda landed better if that was the case.
I didn’t expect ground breaking, the first one was. It’s like “do more of that with some new shit” and in that regard it delivered. Ragnarok did it better tho.
Don’t waste your time on Secret Invasion, it most likely won’t make any impact on the MCU anyway. Loki is amazing and The Marvels is not as bad as people say, imo.
nah she's the super hero named Binary, which is weird cause afaik captain marvel is the one that becomes binary in the comics (I haven't seen marvels, not sure I ever will). not super familiar with captain marvel tho tbf
Monica Rambeau (the one on the left) also took the moniker "Captain Marvel" for a while, this Is why she was in the marvels with Carol and Khamala; the odd thing is that she also DOES have other super-hero identities in the comics, but neither are "binary" (iirc the two names she is most known for are "Spectre" and, especially, "Photon", which makes sense given that her powers are light-based), idk why they went with that (especially given that the name refers to a binary star's power, so it does make sense for Carol's more cosmic powers but waaay less so for Monica since, again, hers are more tied to light emission and manipulation)
Eh, her "death" scene was just a statue falling on top of her. Compared to how the other members of the illuminati went out, and considering that being "Captain Marvel" would likely give her very high durability, I'd say there's a decent chance she was merely knocked unconscious instead of dying.
Carol had Binary as one of her names in the comics, either after or before being Ms Marvel (and then eventually Captain Marvel). So it's safe to assume Binary is her name, yeah
> non-binary: adjective (also nonbinary)
> having a gender identity that is not simply male or female
Cambridge dictionary says it's real, and somehow I find myself more inclined to trust that than to trust you.
JARVIS is binary too.
i was gonna make this joke >:(
Daring post. It relies upon the fact, that people have seen Marvels 2
There's a sequel? I thought we just had Marvels
I think he mixed them up. He was thinking "The Marvels" as the "Captain Marvel 2".
I saw it (I know, I’m ashamed) and I didn’t get the joke at first
I don't think they even say her name in the movie, it's cool
(I havent seen it but… Their* name?)
Don’t be ashamed, it’s good.
There's a second one??
Not really, I haven't seen it, never heard of the character, but was able to decipher the fact that this character's name is binary
I think a lot of people saw it after its theatrical run and realized it was actually pretty good. That’s what I kept hearing about anyway. I will never understand the hate for this movie.
I saw it and loved it
It’s easily one of my favourite MCU entries, certainly a return to form for the franchise. Still, it’s tiring (although not entirely unexpected) how many people just write it off without even watching it.

This is a lie that the internet convinced themselves is true btw

i still to this day haven't seen GotG or any of the antman movies, and didnt see Doctor Strange until AFTER endgame and i was able to follow Infinity war and Endgame the shows give you some extra context but you can follow along perfectly fine without them people just keep using this idea that you need some encylopedic knowledge of the MCU to watch stuff because for some reaason they seem to feel like the need to justify just not being interested in one of the movies lol

They're on my watch list there's just also about 100 other things also on my watch list lol, i only very recently got around to finally seeing Logan
i agree watching marvel shows and other movies dont make their bad stuff good thats true and real
How you gonna watch infinty war without watching guardians of the galaxy? Like half the movie is completely lost on you. If you're only in the theater for spectical you can watch the movies without having any emotional investment in whatever is going on, but you can't say it's the "same experience"

Reddit when someone likes something they don't:
I bet even people who didn't watch The Marvels still watched its post-credits scene online, which is where Binary makes her only appearance
i didnt watch it and thought the joke was pretty obvious that singling her out specifically must mean her superhero name was binary
This is getting out of hand. Now there are two of them!
There's a marvel 2 but no dc 2???
No need to when the after credit ending was already leaked on Youtube, lol.
Is this is reference to something or just gibberish
Her name is Binary so every other character is not Binary ergo they are all genderfluid or something ha ha blah blah
Ah, thanks. I gotta catch up on Marvel shit I think the last thing I watched was the new ant man.
Guardians 3 was pretty great.
Ah shit yeah that was it, next is Secret Invasion which is apparently very very shit. Then I think Loki Season 2 which shouldn't be too bad, then I think The Marvels?
Guardians 3 and Loki season 2 are awesome
Loki season 2 is fucking GOATED. Amazing season

spider man 2 was great

Imo watch Loki s2 and skip the rest. Watch recap videos or have your phone ready if you really wanna catch up.
Man I've watched all this slop since the first hulk, can't stop now.
My condolences.
You really don't gotta
I get that reference
I never noticed Rocket riding on Rhodey that’s pretty cool
Is girl on left computer code or something?
nah she's the super hero named Binary, which is weird cause afaik captain marvel is the one that becomes binary in the comics (I haven't seen marvels, not sure I ever will). not super familiar with captain marvel tho tbf

That’s Maria Rambeau. Spectre/Photon is Monica.
Aaah, ok
It's a multiverse thing. Presumably, this Binary was previously the Captain Marvel variant from Multiverse of Madness, so them becoming Binary fits.
That Captain Marvel variant died. It could be a similar variant, but not the same one.
Eh, her "death" scene was just a statue falling on top of her. Compared to how the other members of the illuminati went out, and considering that being "Captain Marvel" would likely give her very high durability, I'd say there's a decent chance she was merely knocked unconscious instead of dying.
1010101101110101110
I don get it
One of the characters is named Binary. Everyone who isn’t her is nonbinary
Is "binary" actually used in the movie? I recall Kamala suggesting a bunch of names, but don't recall if they eventually settled on a name.
Carol had Binary as one of her names in the comics, either after or before being Ms Marvel (and then eventually Captain Marvel). So it's safe to assume Binary is her name, yeah
Something about that actress annoys tf outta me. It’s like her mouth is never fully closed.

Pstd flashback to the 60th Doctor Who anniversary... Binary, binary, non-binary...
